What pushes you on when you don’t have boundless energy? New Blog: Confessions of a bed-bound mum Surviving Without Energy! When I say bed-bound I mean existing in bed 80-85% of the time, because I don’t have boundless energy. I often get asked how I cope, especially keeping positive, so I thought I’d tell you what keeps me going.. I’m surviving and am able to be a good mum because of my support network. Joel and my boys make me smile every day, especially when I have energy to get downstairs, My friends keep my spirits up and my Carers make sure I preserve energy for mum duties. This emotional support helps me cope. I was shocked to be told by a social worker that I needed physical care idea as a 36 year old mum, but I did need someone to tell me I didn’t have boundless energy. As a youngish (in care terms 🙈) mum. I needed consistency, friendliness and someone bossy enough to tell me off. We had a few mismatches because I'm not your usual care client. More about that in the Blog. The lady who runs the agency I use now is a close friend and she has found perfect matches. They make sure I giggle, shower/dress safely and eat etc. They ensure I’m not using up energy I don’t have, so I can be a better mum. But there are some funny stories about life in the Care Lane! Haven’t had time to upload this yet because I’ve been super busy, but here’s a lovely photo of me and one of my favourite carers, Summer 😁💖 We had an absolute blast on Thursday, despite complications with the busses! We went for a coffee, to dance class, out for lunch in a pub garden, did some shopping, and then caught another bus home! It can be really difficult for people who don’t have carers to understand the relationship you firm with them; a good carer is part sibling, part best mate, part parents, and part professional, and a good carer, like summer, can make all the difference to the quality of your day, and your life. Summer makes every day spent with her a good one! She is an incredibly kind person, and smart, funny, and great fun to hang with. She’s also good in a crisis, a must for my carers! So I had an absolutely horrible day on Thursday, both with my physical health and mental health. Spent the day either spasming or crying, or both. At the end of the day my lovely carer Anna offered to pop over the shop for me... I decided I was going myself... in my pjs! So I went shopping in Asda and for a hot chocolate in Costa in my pjs 😂👍🏻😎! It was a long and emotionally draining day at @cityhospice yesterday, followed by the bad news my Botox has been cancelled again, and I just want to say I’m so grateful I had the support of my amazing keyworker Jack yesterday. It made a bad day bearable, and even good in places. The best thing about Jack is his sense of humour; he can make me laugh no matter what! He’s also very kind, and has taken the time to understand my physical and mental health, and how they affect each other. Of course, he has flaws; he’s terrible at Top Trumps, and DEFINITELY never wins! But possibly his biggest commendation is that my mum absolutely loves him! We actually took this photo to send to her when she was worrying about me; my mum’s stress about me goes down by about 209% when I’m with Jack. Yesterday probably wasn’t an easy day for Jack, either. I cried not just once, but three times (my psychologist will be delighted that I’ve started crying somewhere other than his office or mum’s kitchen!). It’s also An Experience for any of the LMC staff to go to the hospice with me; it’s so easy for them to forget how poorly I am on a daily basis, because I don’t look it, but it’s impossible to ignore the fact I’m Paliative care when we’re literally in the hospice that’s administering that palliative care. I’ve seen a lot of staff find trips to the hospice difficult to wrap their head around; Jack handled it really well. And all the staff loved him 😂 he got offered a million cups of tea! But yeah, I’m incredibly grateful to have such a great carer; this life of mine, especially at the moment, is complicated, scary, and exhausting, and it’s easy to only see the shit parts of it. Having awesome people as your carer and keyworker is one of the (many, many) good bits about my life! So yesterday I got to spend the whole day with a truly awesome carer, Georgia 😁! It was her first ever day working with me, which can often be a bit daunting for newbies; there’s a lotta information to learn/remember, and a lotta responsibility, especially when you’re just 19! But Georgia handled it like a champ 💪🏻 and we had a lovely day to boot! We really clicked, and had a lot of fun. She got the hang of knowing when to help and when to hold back and let me do my thing really quick to, too.
