Seemab Akbarabadi
Seemab Akbarabadi   born Aashiq Hussain Siddiqui   on 5 June 1882 – died 31 January 1951, was an acclaimed Urdu poet from India.
Early life
Seemab Akbarabadi,[1] a descendant of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, the first Caliph of Islam,[2] was born in Imliwale makaan of Kakoo Gali, Nai Mandi, Agra, as the eldest son of Mohammad Hussain Siddiqui, who was himself a Urdu poet, author of several books, a disciple of Hakim Amiruddin Attaar Akbarabadi, and an employee of the Times of India Press, Ajmer. Seemab had said that his forefather had migrated from Bukhara sometime during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir and made Agra his home, however, according to Mohan Lal[3] his great-grandfather had migrated from Bukhara during Aurangzeb's reign. Seemab learnt Persian, Arabic and logic from Jamaluddin Sarhadi and Maulavi Rashid Ahmed Gangohi. The death of his father in 1897 forced Seemab to give up his studies and seek a livelihood first in Agra and then in Kanpur before joining the railways service at Ajmer, from which he resigned in 1922 and returned to Agra. In 1923 he founded the publishing imprint, Qasr-ul-adab. He had four sons and two daughters and the youngest son, Mazhar Siddiqui, continued his work in Karachi and published many of his father's manuscripts. He belonged to the Daagh School. He hailed from Agra where his family had lived for nearly three hundred years.
Literary career
Seemab began ghazal writing in 1892 and in 1898 became a disciple of Nawab Mirza Khan Daagh Dehlawi (1831–1905) to whom he was personally introduced by Munshi Nazar Hussain Sakhaa Dehlawi at the Kanpur Railway Station.[4] After founding "Qasr-ul-adab" in 1923 with Saghar Nizami as its editor, he started publishing the Monthly "Paimana". In 1929, he started the Weekly "Taj" and in 1930 the Monthly Shair. The publication of "Paimana" ceased in 1932 when Saghar Nizami separated from Seemab and moved to Meerut. Shair continued to be published long after Seemab’s death, managed and edited (since 1935) by his son, Aijaz Siddiqi, and "Wahi-e-manzoom" published by his son Mazhar Siddiqui from Karachi was graced ith a Hijra Award on 27 Ramzan by the President of Pakistan, General Zia-Ul-Haq.
Seemab never enjoyed a comfortable financial position, yet he always appeared immaculately dressed in a neat sherwani and white wide payjama with a Turkish topi covering his head. He did not have a beard. Seemab wrote in all literary formats and on various social and political topics. In 1948, he went to Lahore and then to Karachi in an unsuccessful search for a publisher for his monumental work, "Wahi-e-Manzoom", an Urdu translation in verse form of the Quran. Seemab did not return to Agra. In 1949 he suffered a massive paralytic stroke from which he never recovered and he died on 31 January 1951. His translation of the Qur'an was published thirty years later.
Works
Beginning with the publication of his first collection of poems," Naistaan" in 1923, Akbarabadi published seventy-five books throughout his life. These included twenty-two books of poetry, not including "Loh-e-mahfooz" (1979), "Wahi-e-manzoom" (1981) and "Saaz-e-hijaz" (1982), all published long after his death. He is best known for his ghazals particularly by those sung by Kundan Lal Saigal.[5] He also wrote short stories, novels, dramas, biographies and critical appraisals and was acknowledged[by whom?] as a master of Urdu, Persian and Arabic language and grammar.

Today is death anniversary of Shyam
Shyam
By Karan Bali
Shyam was regarded as one of the most good-looking leading men of Hindi cinema by old timers. Hindi cinema historians are certain that if not for his untimely death in 1951, the face of Hindi cinema in the 1950s would have been very different, for at the time, Shyam was as big a star as the Trimurti that would rule Hindi cinema in the ’50s – Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor.
He was born Sunder Shyam Chadha on February 20, 1920 in Sialkot. However, he spent his growing up years in Rawalpindi and graduated from Gordon College there. He appeared in a screen test for Bombay Talkies in the early 1940s but was rejected and even assisted director JK Nanda briefly. He then made his acting debut in the Punjabi movie, Gowandhi (1942) co-starring Veena, Manorama, SD Narang, Asha Posley and the great character actor, M Ismail. However, Shyam’s father was not keen for him to work in the film line but his uncle, Tarachand Chadha convinced the family to let Shyam work in films.
Shyam appeared in WZ Ahmed’s Man Ki Jeet (1944), opposite Ahmed’s ‘discovery’ Neena and in Room No. 9 (1946) opposite Geeta Nizami but was finding the going tough. Following partition of India in 1947 and screen testing again for Bombay Talkies, Shyam starred in their production, Majboor (1948) co-starring Munawar Sultana. He received good notices for his work even from the hard-to-please Baburao Patel and did not have to look back thereafter. His association with Bombay Talkies also led to a close friendship with writer Saadat Hasan Manto, described in rather touching detail by the latter. That year, he also appeared in Shahid Lateef’s Shikayat opposite Nigar Sultana.
Shyam finally broke through big time in 1949 with a string of hits including Dillagi (1949), Kaneez (1949) and Patanga (1949). Dillagi, co-starring Suraiya, remains his best known film. Directed by AR Kardar, the film showed Shyam had it in him to be a fine actor as well. The film, a tragic romance, was a huge success at the box office with the song Tu Mera Chand Main Teri Chandni hummed all over the country. The Shyam-Suraiya hit pair would go in to do Naach and Char Din as well. Another extremely popular film, Kaneez, saw Shyam caught between his wife, Munawar Sultana, and sexy vamp, Kudip Kaur, who all but destroys his marriage, forcing Sultana to live like a servant in her own house.
As he became a star, Shyam acted with heroines like Naseem Banu (Chandni Raat (1949)), Nargis (Chhoti Babi, Meena Bazaar (both 1950)), Rehana (Surajmukhi, Nirdosh (both 1950)), Nimmi (Wafa (1950)) and Meena Shorey (Kale Badal (1951)). While shooting for the Filmistan swashbuckler, Shabistan co-starring Naseem Banu, Shyam fell off a horse and suffered major head injuries. He succumbed to his wounds in hospital on April 25, 1951.
On the personal front, Shyam was married to a Muslim woman, Taji, who migrated to Pakistan after his death. His daughter, Sahira, went on to become a popular TV artist there. He also had a son, Shakhir, whom he did not live to see as the latter was born a couple of months after his death.
Some other films that Shyam acted in include Raat Ki Rani (1949), Samadhi (1950) and Sangeeta (1950) .
