The biggest advantage that Zabdel has is that his Puerto Rican and Puerto Ricans, pretty much dominate the urban music industry. I mean Dominicans are up there, and Cubans aren’t far behind. Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of Ecuadorians in urban music, so unless Chris starts singing in a Caribbean way, I think just being Ecuadorian might hurt him a little bit. Simply because we’re not used to hearing Ecuadorian singing in music. Recently Argentina has been taking over and Columbia has been having some artists for a good while along with Mexico, so I’m curious to know what way he goes in his like accent.

Thank you for giving me this point of view! Being from Aotearoa/New Zealand I'm just not used to these distinctions in Spanish language music, but of course when it is explained to me it makes perfect sense. There are regional differences in music over here as well.

Do you think that Chris may have picked up some influences in his time with CNCO (not just from the other chicos, but from all the acts they have worked with) & that this might help? I would so much like to see Chris succeed!

1. “From This Moment On” by Shania Twain — this is my mom’s and my song. my birthday is coming up (sunday the 30th 🥰), and i’ve been listening to it a lot. i am extremely grateful to be alive for multiple reasons, and i’m extremely grateful to have my mom alive as well. “all we need is just the two of us. my dreams came true because of you.”

2. “Burn Me Down” by Nathan Sykes — i like to listen to love songs and imagine myself in a romance story that i make up as i listen. this has been one of them lately. i know that’s probably cheesy, but throughout middle/high school (and even now) i’ve been made fun of or cast aside because of my size, so i’ve done this to give me some hope. “tell me you love me by the way you burn. your fire ignites me, don’t let it fade away.”

3. “Toa La Noche” by CNCO — i’m sure i’ve mentioned this at least once before, but i’m puerto rican (genetically, at least. i was born in the midwest, and don’t have much connection to the actual island). latin music is a big part of my life, as it helps me feel at least a little bit closer to my culture. i am white presenting (though most of my family is brown, as we have taíno and african ancestry), and for a lot of my life i hadn’t know much about my culture. so listening to music helps a bit, as well as anything i learn now. “por favor, quédate. no te pido nada más. esta noche, bebé, sé que no lo olvidarás.” // “please, stay. i won’t ask anything else of you. this night, baby, i know you won’t forget it.”

4. “favorite crime” by Olivia Rodrigo — i hope i don’t have to explain this one, but this song has been on my rotation for a few weeks since i wrote my first elvis fic. “i watched as you fled the scene, doe eyed as you buried me. one heart broke, four hands bloodied.”

5. “Fever” by Elvis Presley — i hope i don’t have to explain this one either 😂 the man gives me fever 🥵 “i light up when you call my name, and you know i’m gonna treat you right. you give me fever…fever all through the night.”

BONUS: “False God” by Taylor Swift — i’ve been worshipping aphrodite for almost 3 years now, and this is the song she sends to me when i’m having a hard time, especially with religious trauma (i’m a former jehovah’s witness 😢). “we might just get away with it. religion’s in your lips, even if it’s a false god….we still worship this love.”
