3 de abril 2022, Taller de Judas

Contando con la participación del Mtro. Juan Hernández por videollamada y la Mtra. Alexandra Sotell, se realizó esta segunda jornada de talleres en la que los/as participantes confeccionaron sus judas, todo a partir de materiales reutilizados.

Una grata experiencia a la que asistieron pares artesanos/as de diversas áreas del oficio.

With the online colaboration of crafman master Juan Hernández, and the craftwoman master Alexandra Sotell, it took place the second day of worshops, Workshop of Judas, in which the attendees handmade their judas from recycled materials.

It was a nice experience for everyone of the crafmen and craftwomen from diverse craftmanship's areas who attended the event.

i hate how sso keep hammering their “this is a game where you can ONLY play as a GIRL because GIRLS are GOOD and there are plenty other games where you can only play as a boy!” into the ground. like aren’t they literally reinforcing the stereotype that horses are a girl thing... which... idk how they want to do that and then paint themselves as progressive for it? (and this isn’t even mentioning the MULTITUDE of other issues their gender restrictions have but i couldn’t possibly fit that in an ask lol)

I’ve said it before and this likely won’t be the last time, but as a transman I’m fine with a genderlocked main character. It happens, especially in games where you want to tell a story. (Granted it’s incredibly rare for MMORPG’s to not let you make a single choice in regards to your character’s build/gender/”type” so what they’re doing truly is,,,,, unique i guess).

What I DO have a problem with is when SSO takes their genderlocking out of the game and into the real world. Like the game news article where they called us, the audience, not our main characters, “Craftwomen” or my recent post which I’m sure you’re referring to where they make a big fuss about how their audience is girls and their mission in life is to empower girls and blahblehbleugh. We, both as people who don’t identify as women and as adults are not the target audience and they will happily push us aside to make their agenda look prettier and shinier to prospective players, investors and future coworkers. That’s where my problem is.

They value their looks over their audience and I’m not gonna lie, kinda infuriating. I’m sure it doesn’t feel great to be an full grown woman and keep hearing that you’re a little girl who needs to be empowered all the time either.

Doing a weeklong 'textile adventures' course - every day is a new subject, new workshop, new materials, new master craftsman teaching. It's me and five other women over 60, most of them master craftwomen in their own right. It's brilliant and fascinating and humbling and exhilarating all at once. There is so much uplifting power in women's maker-spaces.

Craftwomen in Seattle: Amz Saezim, founder of Mountainfoxgoods (Pt. 1)

This photo essay features Amz Saezim, the maker and founder of Mountainfoxgoods, a brand that specializes in handmade leather products combining modern design and traditional techniques. The name “Mountainfoxgoods” came from Saezim’s main source of inspiration, nature and her love for foxes. “So, I combined mountain and fox together, super simple,” says Saezim. However, her journey to building her business was the opposite, she shares the challenges she faces as an immigrant, POC, and a female entrepreneur.

1) Amz Saezim, the maker and founder of Mountainfox goods makes a wallet using a stitching pony, saddle stitch and green linen thread at the lobby of her apartment located in Capitol Hill, Seattle, Washington on Nov, 2. 2018. Mountainfoxgoods focuses on handmade leather products that combines modern aesthetics and traditional techniques.

Saezim started her business after she quit teaching at the Bellevue Montessori School back in 2017 due to her poor health conditions. Her first ever product was a wallet for her husband’s birthday because she couldn’t find anything on the market that she was pleased with. She was self taught, she learnt everything from the internet including English. She grew up surrounded by artistic people, back in the day her dad ran a construction business and built buildings in Chinatown in Thailand. He now sells antique furnitures, Saezim grew a love for vintage things because of that.

2) Amz Saezim shows her calluses from working 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. everyday at Seattle, Washington on Nov, 2. 2018. “Instead of appreciating my skills, they doubt me,” Saezim says. People often question her by asking “did you make this” or “can I see your hand.” “Some people would ask to touch my hands, I don’t really appreciate that. Is it how I look? Do you think I can’t make this? It bums me,” Saezim says.

3) A collection of Mountainfoxgoods products scattered on the table, Amz Saezim’s favorite and breakthrough piece is the Monstera leaf earrings which was inspired by her wedding back in Thailand. “When I came back to Seattle and looked at our wedding pictures, I really liked the leaves and I wanted to put this in my work so it can remind me of our wedding,” Saezim says. The first batch took 2 days for 10 pairs. Taken in Seattle, Washington on Nov, 2. 2018. Her business picked up when she participated as a vendor with Urban Craft Uprising and started showcasing her work on Instagram. She shares that next week, she will be screening with Pike Place Market.

“The Seattle craft community is excellent and awesome,” Saezim says. As an immigrant, woman, person of color, and entrepreneur its really hard for her to establish connections. She had to start from scratch but the local makers community has helped her a lot. The women she meets at the craft show often share information with her, from topics ranging from “how did you start” to information relating to shows.
