This year's Saturnalia is coming soon, which calls for a moment of devotion for its main, though not only, Divinity, the Titan Saturn. Initially an agricultural Deity of abundance and good harvest of Roman and Greek land, Saturn is most well known for being the keeper of Time and the Titan who ate His children.
However, He is a much more complex God, or Titan, than that, and in this post I'd like to cover His cult across Greece and the Roman Empire as well as offerings, gifts, and activities that can be devoted to Him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saturn, or Cronos, has quite a number of myths spoken of him as well as a lot of versions as to how the Deity initially came to be. The most well-known and popular story about His early years is that of Uranus and Gaia, who the Greeks considered to be His parents; and Him, Their youngest child. Accordingly to this myth, it was Cronos who cut off His father's genitalia, which, falling into the sea, both birthed Venus and created Sicily, the region that was called fertilissima, or "most fertile" land. The sickle, after being used for that, fell on Earth and formed the Strait of Messina, the sickled shape of which was believed to remind one of the God's tool and weapon.
The story of Cronos, after emasculating His father and taking reign over the skies, is quite well-known. He was given a prophecy that one of His children would dethrone Him in turn, and to prevent that, he consumed all of them, but Rhea, determined to save at least one, provided Him a wrapped stone instead of little Zeus. Years passed, and children grew safely in Their father's stomach, seeing that They were immortal, locked up until Zeus, raised by Metis, fed Cronos a mixture of wine and mustard that made Him throw up all of His consumed children. After the Gods waged war on the Titan, he got chained up in Tartarus alongside those who helped Him. Zeus overtook Olympus, ending the cycle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Roman legend seems to decode a different part of Saturn's self, story, and power. While the Greek story focuses on the aspect of Saturn as a primordial Divine ruler over all that exists, the Roman tale speaks on Him as a joyful king of the era long before humankind; the mystical Golden Age. Seen as a God, in the Roman myth Saturn is the Deity of abundance and rich harvest, celebrated alongside Dis Pater, Proserpina, and Ops during the annual festival of Saturnalia in December. His very name, Saturn or Saturno, derives from an Ancient Indo-European root sat which has the meaning "life giving", "prosperous" (hence "sated"). Saturn in the Roman Empire is a benevolent, all-giving Deity that received an enormous amount of respect and worship, even having His own Temple at the Capitolian Hill in Rome. This was a sign of utmost respect as only those Gods that were seen as Rome's protectors and keepers received an aedis, a dwelling place, in the capital.
Roman mythology saw the Age of Saturn's reign as a time of utter joy as no slavery existed back then, according to the Romans. People and Gods lived together, with mortals not aging and happily spending the days in drinking and partying. When the time of Death came, they fell into a happy slumber. To celebrate this memory, Saturnalia was introduced. Saturn was praised together with Ops, his Divine wife. She was seen as responsible for the fruits of the Earth as well as a protectoress of abundance alongside Her husband - and the Mother of All. This was also reflected in her name, Ops, or Opima (hence "opulence").
Thus, one can witness the radical difference between Saturn and Cronos, who must not be mixed up despite their mutual identification as the same Deity seen differently. Cronos is a gloomy ex-king burdened by defeat to his own son, locked away in the Underworld as a way of punishment. Roman Saturn, however, is a much more positive power: a benevolent king of the mystical Golden Age, the leading Deity of Saturnalia, the happiest time of the year, and a keeper of mystical golden seeds one can find if they discover His tomb under Lazio.
Saturn was so beloved in Rome that His constant presence in its life is depicted in local stories and myths, too. For example, in the story of Aeneas, when he and his crew land in Etruria after the fall of Troy and travel to Lazio, they find Evandro, the ruler of the land. He, having arrived to Palatine Hill long before the Trojan war, says that the indigenous peoples there were already praticing the cult of Saturn.
The myth of Roman Saturn usually ends with Saturn being exiled by Jupiter, who then takes up His role as the King, and thus brings a change of season and a cycle of aging into the previous Golden Age.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, this is where the story of Saturn and Janus begins. Saturn for the Romans was one of the Deities called Numina, powers that had no established forms and of whom we so far discovered close to no myths. Those powers included such well-known Godly presences as the Lari and the Penati. Saturn belonged among the Numina and was regarded as the protector of the fields, thus receiving praise for good harvest.
According to the Roman myth, after exile He settled in what would later become Southern Italy, specifically in the region of Ausonia in Lazio. Here, He and His brother Janus founded mythical cities of Saturn, called Saturnalia as the festival created later on will also be named. They were benevolent rulers, and Their people knew of architecture, as well as law and justice. Allegedly, it was Saturn who granted Janus His gift of foresight.
After Janus was deified by the Romans, Saturn became the center of the festival of Saturnalia, which in itself is so grand that it deserves each own post to be spoken of, which I will of course provide.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To speak of the cult of Saturn, we must first talk of His representation within the common perception. Now, His main attribute was a scythe, which represented both His inherent status of an agricultural Deity as well as His later association with Death and Time that brings it; much like a reaper of souls. Crow was his companion bird, which became associated with both Greek Cronos and Roman Saturn. Interestingly enough, this came from Latin as the term for crow, cornix, sounded similar enough to Chrono. The Greeks took up the spelling and turned Cronos into Chronos, thus associating the two. Chronos, also, means "Time", which was what led people to believe He was the personification of Time itself.
The cult of Saturn has been noted to exist in multiple parts of the Roman world. Precisely in Sicily, where the Deity was first documented, and in Northern Africa during the Roman rule of the lands. Due to the nature of the Cult itself, we can't say much about how exactly Saturn was praised at the very beginning of His worship, though we can enumerate some general aspects of the cultic activity.
From what we know, the cult in Sicily associated Saturn with the Punic Deity named Baal, or Baal-Hammon, who represented agricultural power of abundance and was a gift-giving God. He was praised along the Northern part of Africa and was known to the South of Italy and Sicily. In the cult of Baal-Hammon, animal sacrifice was practiced, which, while distributed very unevenly across the Roman Empire of the time, seemed to be a generally typical feature of the cult. In Caltabellotta, Sicily, according to Ancient sources, Baal-Cronos was honored with human sacrifice. Aside from Italy and North Africa, another place of dwelling of the God is said to be Mount Scuderi with a mythical tomb in it.
Saturn in North Africa received handmade wooden and stone-carved altars, or stelae, that would be dedications of vows from those who made them. These could be made by individuals, groups of individuals, or whole templar communities if a temple existed. The dedication of the stelae was often preceded by a "visitation in a dream", ex visu, as proven by multiple texts of the votive rites of the time. These stelae were sort of a promise from the mortal giver to the God Himself; and a place of commemoration of Him and the gifts He would grant the loyal. The stelae depicted the God, His companions, a miniature of a worshipper performing a sacrifice, and a lot of other decorum. Young lambs were sacrificed to Him all year long, according to bone analysis and texts found.
It needs to be said here that Roman cults split into sacra publica and sacra privata: public and personal. Public cults involved some sort of common activity of the people and provision by the state, such as the state paying for the temples, while private worship meant that the God received personal dedications of an individual. As mentioned befor, it is said that Saturn did not require an official dwelling place, such as a temple in the city; he still received one as, supposedly, the Romans did not want to "let go" of such a benevolent protector. His statue in Rome had covers draped over His feet as a symbolic gesture.
The biggest celebration of the God is Saturnalia, an Ancient festival that has roots in the archaic era. It is said to also have involved human sacrifice of the chosen King of the Saturnalia, though it's hard to provide proof for such claims. However, we know for a fact that animal sacrifice, spoken of by multiple Roman authors, was made during the festival at the biggest temple of those built in Rome - the Temple of Saturn. This temple was located at the Roman Forum; it dates back to the early Republican era. Until the end of Republic, it was used as a treasury that kept in bronze plates with engraved laws, Senate decrees, army insignia, and a scale for weighing metal. Metal reserve (gold, bronze, silver) of the state was also kept there right up until the coming of the Empire.
Aside from being praised as a keeper of Rome, an agricultural God of Sicily as well as North Africa, and a mythical King of the age before humanity, Saturn was also associated with the so-called Genius of Palermo. There, in Palermo, the people believed in the presence of a God that depicted civic virtues and cultural identity of the locals; He was depicted as a bearded man with a snake feeding off His chest. A manuscript found in the area suggests this God to be Saturn, "God of earth and time, father of time and father of the Gods and men”. Additionally, a statue of the God was found in Palazzo Pretorio with an engraving on its side that said, suos devorat, alienos nutrit: devours his own, feeds the foreigners. That, if we remember the myth of Saturn consuming His own children, also created a link of Genius of Palermo to this God.
Saturn had a lot of faces and a lot of interpretations. His cult was both what we could call intense, as it involved human and animal sacrifice, and liberating as He brought along one of the happiest and oldest Roman holidays. Now, this is the God that, in my opinion, deserves a lot of attention, adoration, and worship. If you would like to learn of ways to honor Him that I want to offer, then it's time to pass on to the ways of ritual rites in honor of Saturn.

Taking a break from work if you work otherwise during the year, going on a vacation, or somehow else finding time to relax and unwind.
Treating yourself to something you don't usually indulge in just for the occasion of celebrating the God, as long as it's safe.
Cooking for the sake of sharing the food with others or gifting it to others as well as cooking for or with Him.
Taking time to prepare and wrap a gift for Him, with natural materials used if possible.
Preparing gifts for somebody else or Him, if your skill and budget allow you to.
Dedicating the time of day for the worship of Him and scheduling the day so that each hour is devoted to a new devotional activity.
Praying your troubles away to Him, talking about your problems with Him, and asking for His protection.
Creating your own votive imagery of Him; it doesn't have to be anything expensive and can be made out of anything.
Performing in His name, public or private, or visiting local city fairs.
Commemorating your family's elderly members; this can include contacting them or spending time with them if they watn that.

So l’m playing around with the idea that out of all his children, Kronos hated Hera the least, for several reasons:
She reminds him of how he was like her age (HC).
She’s the only one who visits him in Tartarus sometimes to complain about Zeus sometimes just to talk (mix of canon and HC).
She’s the only one he kinda raised (It’s a whole thing basically she was raised by Oceanus and Tethys but eventually given back to Kronos when he was certain a daughter won’t overthrow him. Hestia and Demeter weren’t so lucky) (mix of canon and HC).
She’s the only one who really talks to him, everyone else basically walk on eggshells around him but she isn’t afraid to speak her mind (kind of how she became Zeus’s biggest critic in the future.) (HC)

Hey, I was wondering if you could use your writing skills on a scenario with Apollo, Hades, and Buddha, where they meet the reader (a goddess of the cosmos), who hasn't interacted with other deities(and humans)?I hope you will consider it.
A/N: Hello there, Anon!! I always consider the requests that are sent into my inbox! I really did like your request, as the Goddess of Cosmos thing is really cute. Uranus is used as the Reader's father here! I do hope you enjoy this!!

☀️ He had heard about you from both his nymphs and fellow Gods
☀️ You were known as the Greek Goddess of the Cosmos, and the daughter of Uranus, the previous God of Cosmos
☀️ Unlike many Greek Gods, you were very introverted, straying far away from Gods, only seen speaking to the sky, supposedly to your father, who personified the sky
☀️ All Gods were pretty much required to go to Gods’ Council meetings, but nobody had ever seen you join the meetings, with the excuse from Hades that you were resting in one of your father’s temples
☀️ And it surprised everyone when stars started falling from the ceiling and you popped up, sitting on a cloud, bundled up by a cute comet blanket
☀️ He stared at you with hearts in his eyes, you were the most beautiful Goddess he had ever seen before, and in his opinion, you surpassed Aphrodite
☀️ Your eyes shimmered with stars and your cheeks were littered with small sparkles
“ Ah, Y/N! It’s a pleasure to see you decided to join us for once! “
☀️ Apollo ignored Zeus’ comment and watched as you waved lightly to other Gods before Aphrodite sat beside you and began to caress your hair, with permission of course!
☀️ The God of the Sun then decided, you were going to be the one he would marry and have children with, after all, opposites attract, he just hopes maybe you’d return the feelings

💀 Hades knew of you because he had seen you around as he grew up
💀 As the God of the Dead, he knew of your history, as your mother was mortal and your father was the original God of the Cosmos, how that worked? No clue
💀 You were known around the Greek Pantheon as a kind and quiet individual, never really showing up to meet anyone, including Zeus when he beat Cronos and took over the head
💀 The only person you had ever really spoken to that he knew of was Aphrodite, and that was because she had come across you inside of one of Uranus’ temples one night while she walked around
💀 Hades was just taking a stroll throughout Helheim when he heard a small voice singing by the river STYX
💀 He cocked an eyebrow and immediately turned and walked towards the noise, expecting to find a possible nymph of a visiting God or Goddess, but, he found you
💀 You had a blackhole-themed outfit on, it fanning out by your feet as the cloud of stars underneath you slowly were sucked in and exported out of the middle of it over and over again
💀 He froze in place and caught your attention with how he stood by you after finally gaining the confidence to move towards you
💀 After speaking for a while, you both realized you liked one another, and you swore to visit him more often. And during one of those visits, he discovered his feelings, now, all he hopes is that you like him back

🍭 Buddha knew of you, but he didn’t actually know you
🍭 He had heard about you mainly through Gods’ Council meetings, as some Gods would complain about having to be there while you weren’t obligated like them
🍭 He had decided to head out for a walk before the 4th round of Ragnarok ensued, and that was when he had met you
🍭 You were sitting on a star-formed cloud that was letting stars fall into the ground, leaving slight burn marks, then flowers grew
🍭 To say he was curious was an understatement, he was getting nosy
🍭 Buddha looked at you from behind and tapped your shoulder before swiftly moving to the front saying ‘boo’
🍭 The way you jumped and looked behind you in surprise amused him, and seeing you then turn around once again in shock before getting flustered and backing away
🍭 The way your cheeks flushed and the sparkles that littered your cheeks began to brighten made him chuckle
🍭 Ever since that day, he had a habit of meeting up to speak with you, and you seemed to enjoy his presence
🍭 He loved to mess with your hair which was littered with many different kinds of things, from clips symbolizing planets to small stars
🍭 During his match of Ragnarok, he smirked, looked at you and laughed as stars enveloped Zerofuku’s head as you leapt in front of him, declaring your alliance with Humanity, and ever since then, you guys have been inseparable
🍭 It was that form of honor and determination that made him realize his feelings for you ran deeper than friendship, so, now, he plans to ask, if you felt the same. Oh how he hopes you do!

Zeus
“I will sing of Zeus, chiefest among the gods and greatest, all-seeing, the lord of all, the fulfiller who whispers words of wisdom to Themis as she sits leaning towards him. Be gracious, all-seeing Son of Cronos, most excellent and great!”
(Homeric Hymn, translated by H.G. Evelyn white)
ZEUS, (zoos) King of the Olympians, sits upon his throne high atop the golden palaces of Mount Olympus. The king of the sky and thunder holds aloft his blazing lightning bolt, which was crafted by the Cyclopes. Above, float his winged enforcers, Nike (victory), Bia (force) Zelos (rivalry) and Kratos (strength). Zeus is the Lord of prophecy, relaying them to his radiant son, Apollo, who relates them to the Pythia; the oracle priestess at the temple of Apollo at Delphi.
Most of us are accustomed to seeing Zeus portrayed as an older man, with white hair and white beard. But in fact, to the ancient Greeks, Zeus was portrayed as middle-aged, with black hair and beard. Remember that Zeus was last born to the titaness Rhea, (before his siblings were swallowed by his father, Cronus) technically making Zeus the youngest of the Olympians.
The Oracle at Dodona, in northwestern Greece, was a temple site dedicated to Zeus. Here the priests and priestesses used a form of divination involving the rustling sounds of the oak tree and its leaves to gain prophecies.
Zeus is also known for his insatiable lust; transforming into animals like an eagle, swan, or bull (and even a shower of gold!) to pursue his conquests of female mortals and deities alike.
Thanks for looking and reading!

rocky road — which soulmate!au would be perfect for them?
⤷ with: zagreus
Tumblr media
See color for the first time when you touch them + Star-crossed lovers. In this essay I will-
Okay, hear me out. Zagreus is the most determined deity. That's a fact. He's literally compared to Sisyphus all the time. Even when things seem to work against him, when people he loves don't support him, when his own father fight him to death: Zagreus don't stop trying.
It don't matter what separates you both. Maybe you're a nymph that lives with Persephone far away from the Underworld. Maybe you're another chthonic entity that have so much to do to prove yourself for Hades. Maybe you're an hero(ine) on Elysium responsible for killing Zagreus again and again.
When you touched (maybe in accident during work, maybe during a fight, maybe you tried to help him while he died on the surface), colors exploded in front of his eyes. Since that, Zagreus knows he won't give up on you. He won't stop trying. It don't matter if he ends up dying just to see you for a few minutes, if Hades himself declare that you both will never be alowed to have a relationship, if you're the one killing him again and again: Zagreus will never stop trying.
Chaos can say that will never work, Gaia can wake up and separe you both, Cronos can get rid of his chains: Zagreus will never let someone else decide his fate for him. He would never challenge the Moires out loud, but he does beg. And the only person he actually fears is Aphrodite. Don't matter what she demands, Zagreus will do everything to be on her good side and make sure that she also likes you.
After all, the stars and the rest of the world can say and do whatever they want, but Zagreus got plenty of time to make you his. And he isn't a man give up on the first few thousand attempts.
if you enjoyed, please reblog! i promise it makes a difference ♡

Kore/Koronis for Otaku!Yuu… *inhales* the mythology nerd in me loves this so much. I’m not sure how many folks know Persephone’s(aka Hades’ wife aka the villain Idia is based off of) first/original name before becoming Queen of the Underworld was Kore and I love that little detail! Kronos/Cronos being the Titan of Time and also father of 6 gods that he also ate to keep from overthrowing him but didn’t work out the way he thought, I think he’s a little more well known than Persephone’s first/original name, sorry, I just, I kinda wanted to nerd out a bit-
- Puppet
A fellow Mythology buff. To be more specific Kore isn't Persephone's original name. At least not quite.
Kore isn't a name. It's like naming a child girl. She was called Kore but that was not her name.
Persephone has many names and titles simply because people aren't supposed to say her real name because she's a chthonic deity.
Sorry, I literally have thesis paper on this due to my research being on ancient cults.
Koronis is just male spelling of Coronis. Not Kronos. Whom was a lover of the God Apollo. She was killed for betraying him and he failed to revive her after.

Zurvan Akarana Talon Abraxas
A Circle of Eternal Life Zurvan is the Persian god of infinite time, space and fate. The deity is traditionally represented as being nameless (the name Zurvan being an appellative title), without gender and passions, and neutral in regard to good and evil. However, in certain strains of Zoroastrianism, Zurvan is also the father of the good deity, Ahura Mazda, and the evil deity, Angra Mainyu, also known as Ahriman.
Zurvan is mentioned in the Origins of Alchemy Shamanic & Esoteric. It speaks of early alchemists Zosimus and Isis and of course go back to Sumerian gods and myths. "Zurvan is linked with Babylonian astrology. In Zurvan the opposites are contained. The spiritual embodiment for this reconciliation of opposites was embraced by Greek and Indian thought as well." He eventually was known as Cronos which goes to the Keeper of Time.

maleficent and saturn's dichotomy ☆
a continuation of my "notes on saturn in 10H"
disclaimer: i will be using tropical and sidereal (vedic) astrology, but i am very much a beginner in vedic astrology. i believe that the two systems can co-exist and do work together! (that view is subject to change though)
Tumblr media
donna murphy (voice actress): aquarius moon
🪐 as explained in my previous post, saturn not only restricts and deprives but also rewards whoever works hard enough to earn its blessings.
Tumblr media
cate blanchett: moon conjunct saturn
🪐 as explored in claire nakti's video, the cinderella fairytale is littered with saturn symbolism. she describes the "evil stepmother" archetype as symbolising the restrictions of saturn and the "fairy godmother" archetype as saturn's rewards. cinderella's stepmother is notoriously cruel towards her, turning her into a servant and constantly belittling her.
Tumblr media
eleanor audley (voice actress): anuradha sun
🔮 a twitter user (hxtgirlb) pointed out that several maleficent actresses have saturn placements and so i wanted to explore maleficent as the embodiment of saturn.
🔮 maleficent is left out of the invitations to aurora's christening and, in turn, curses her to prick her finger on a spindle and sleep forever unless she is kissed by her true love.
🔮 she symbolises the fairy godmother trope through offering a solution to the curse (true love's kiss). she is also a literal fairy!
🔮 maleficent's name also includes malefic and saturn is described as the great malefic in astrology.
the evil stepmother ☆
Tumblr media
angelina jolie: pushya ascendant + moon conjunct jupiter
🪐 in the live action remake of sleeping beauty, saturn's influences become much clearer. maleficent is burned by iron due to her being a fairy, and iron is ruled by saturn.
🪐 stefan starts as a young peasant boy and falls in love with maleficent. he betrays her and uses iron chains to cut off her wings in order to gain favour with the king. he later becomes the king. this demonstrates saturn's power to raise status, as maleficent's wings led to stefan's ascension to the throne.
🪐 maleficent, as the embodiment of saturn, enacts karma on stefan by cursing his daughter, aurora.
more synchronicities with saturn's rulership:
• crows and maleficent's partner is a crow
• black and this is the colour we see her wear predominantly
• the father and it was aurora's father who caused the curse
• life-restoring remedies and maleficent improves the curse by offering the solution of true love's kiss
the fairy godmother ☆
Tumblr media
🪄 this tumblr post on saturn worship (please check it out!) retells roman saturn mythology. interestingly, saturn was seen as the ruler of the golden age and the deity of abundance.
🪄 claire nakti assigns the fairy godmother archetype to juno, jupiter's wife. this is why we see fairy godmothers with prominent jupiter AND saturn placements. one of juno's symbols is the lotus, which is associated with all saturn nakshatras in vedic astrology.
🪄 they also embody saturn's wife, ops, who was seen as the protector of abundance and the "mother of all."
🪄 maleficent's role in the movie is the protector of the moors, the land she is from, and she is seen as a mother by all the mystical creatures that live there. she also becomes a mother-like figure to aurora and aims to reverse the curse she put on her as a baby.
🪄 the oppressive saturn that is more widely known in astrological circles reflects his greek counterpart, cronos. he ate all his children, but zeus, to prevent them from overthrowing him due to a prophecy.
🪄 the rewarding saturn reflects the roman god that rules over the golden age and promises abundance and a life devoid of suffering. in the film, maleficent turns out to be aurora's true love and saves her via a kiss.
Tumblr media
sidenote: cinderella and aurora both wear blue, which is ruled over by saturn. they also go through hardships put on them by their evil stepmother/godmother before being saved by their fairy godmothers.
🪄 both princesses are also lifted up to a queen status through the actions of their fairy godmothers. cinderella becomes the king's wife and therefore queen, while aurora becomes queen of the moors.
more fairy godmother examples in media:
Tumblr media
whitney houston: saturn atmakaraka + moon conjunct jupiter
Tumblr media
verna felton (voice actress): pushya sun and moon conjunct saturn. pushya's deity is brihaspati, aka jupiter.
Tumblr media
jennifer saunders (voice actress): moon in purva bhadrapada (aquarius) and sun in punarvasu
thank you so much if you read all the way up to this point! i have always been enamoured with saturn as it is conjunct my midheaven, and i have anuradha moon and saturn atmakaraka in vedic astrology. discovering jupiter's connection to this dichotomy was also amazing as i am jupiter dominant in both systems! this post format was inspired by @vindelllas (an amazing blog, please check her out). i hope you enjoyed this post <3

What is a “Universal Offering/Devotional Act?”
Feel free to request or suggest deities! This list will be done in order but you can ask for me to complete one that’s further down the list.
This list is subject to change. There are probably repeat deities (deities who go by multiple names, parts of groups like the Horae or Charities who are mostly grouped together, etc.) on this list. Some deities are not on here. Some names are spelt wrong or different.

Ovid’s Fasti Book 6
Tells that Hera is Kronos’s eldest child rather than Hestia, which doesn’t really interest in me in itself but the wording is interesting, that Hera was the first to call Kronos her father, it goes nicely with my “Hera is the only child Kronos raised” headcanon.
Also the point about him being “exiles from heaven” and landing on what will be called Rome is interesting but I’m too lazy to look that up rn

Deity Worship Notes:
Hades and Persephone
Often the two are worshipped together, though some hellenic pagans will worship one or the other. What I've seen in most pagan spaces however is the two being worshipped alongside one another as the two deities in question are bound to each other.
Hades
Hades is god of the underworld not god of death (that's Thanatos, Nyx's son).
Son of Cronos and Rhea, when his brothers (Zues and Posideon) divided the cosmos Hades became king of the underworld. When portrayed he is seen with his faithful three headed dog, Cerberus, who guards the gates to the underworld.
Offerings for Hades
Colors: dark purples, golds, and greens.
Crystals: Jet, Obsidian, Amethyst, Jade
Herbs/plants: White poplar, mint.
Food/drink: Bread, wine, fish, cheese, vegetables, fruits (pomegranate for Persephone), and red wine
Persephone
Goddess Queen of the underworld and of spring, Persephone is the wife of Hades and the daughter of Demeter.
Offerings for Persephone.
Food/Drink: pomegranate, honey, wine, spring water, floral teas.
Colors: purples, greens, golds, pinks.
Herbs/plants: pomegranates, spring time herbs and flowers.
Crystals: peridot, green tourmaline, citrine, gold and turquoise.
My experiences with the two deities:
Back when I had moved out of my parents and in with my (now) ex Persephone was the first to reach out to me. She taught me that new beginnings may be hard but they're also worth it. Being the goddess of spring she told me to nurture new relationship and when it came time to reap what had been sown I would be rewarded. She of course, was talking about the relationship with my parents. Before moving out the relationship was very poor, and after I had moved out the relationship was on the mend. After the relationship was where I wanted it to be She and I went our separate ways.
It was near the end of my relationship with my ex that Hades came to me. As with the death card in tarot, he told me that he didn't represent literal death, instead he represented a change. One that would put me through hell and back but with his guidance I was able to make a brilliant change. While what I experienced in that time is still hard for me to talk about, Hades ensured that it was all worth it.
Hades had recently started to reappear in May of this year (2022), and I knew that it was time for another hard ending but a beautiful rebirth.
Hades and Persephone represent more than just literal death and spring. Together they make the perfect pair in helping someone get through a difficult time in life.

Occasionally, I've seen people express surprise that Hera did nothing to persecute Maia and Hermes, but I think it makes sense if we consider that:
Hera usually targets the mothers of Zeus's children when they are pregnant, but she almost certainly had no idea about Maia's pregnancy and Hermes' existence until Apollon brought him to Olympos. We know from the Homeric Hymns to Hermes that Maia was an Inconspicuous figure who kept away from the other gods "a shy goddess she. Ever she avoided the throng of the blessed gods and lived in a shadowy cave". We are also told that Zeus took care to keep his affair with Maia secret and only visited her when Hera was asleep: "… and there the Son of Cronos used to lie with the rich-tressed nymph at dead of night, while white-armed Hera lay bound in sweet sleep: and neither deathless god nor mortal man knew it.". The birth of Hermes was not the grand public event that the births of gods like Apollon and Artemis or Athena were. This also took place quite early in Zeus and Hera's marriage and I imagine that while he had cheated on her before, Hera was not yet as suspicious and able to figure out Zeus's dubious intentions as she would become in the future.
The children of Zeus whom Hera persecuted after birth were either the ones who did not ascend to Olympos until later in life like Dionysos and Herakles (and these two are her most consistent targets(, or, (less famously and only in some sources) those who never did at all, such as Epaphos, Aiakos and Lamia's children. She did try to prevent the birth of Leto's twins, but did nothing to them once they were born and, with one exception in the Fabulae of Hyginus, did nothing to persecute Leto after she gave birth. She was also angry about Athena's birth, but in that case she was affronted by Zeus having a child by himself, so quite a different situation than the others. In any case, Hermes joins the other Olympians and receives his honours as a baby, almost as soon as he becomes known to the other deities, and it seems that once a child of Zeus is officially admited among the gods Hera no longer opposes them even if she has hated them previously.

part 5:
From Ovid’s Metamorphosis: (-translated by Anthony S. Kline)
“The bloodless spirits wept as he spoke, accompanying his words with the music. Tantalus did not reach for the ever-retreating water: Ixion’s wheel was stilled: the vultures did not pluck at Tityus’s liver: the Belides, the daughters of Danaüs, left their water jars: and you, Sisyphus, perched there, on your rock. Then they say, for the first time, the faces of the Furies were wet with tears, won over by his song: the king of the deep, and his royal bride, could not bear to refuse his prayer, and called for Eurydice. She was among the recent ghosts, and walked haltingly from her wound. The poet of Rhodope (Orpheus) received her, and, at the same time, accepted this condition, that he must not turn his eyes behind him, until he emerged from the vale of Avernus, or the gift would be null and void.”
Let’s take a closer look at some of the secondary characters mentioned in Ovid’s passage. Tantalus (great-grandfather of Agamemnon) was a King who, after being admitted to dine with the gods, killed his own son (Pelops) to serve the gods to test their powers of perception. For this moral crime, he was cast into Hades where he endured the torment of everlasting hunger and thirst. When he bent to drink the waters at his feet- the water receded away, or when he reached for the fruit on the tree above- the wind blew the branches out of reach. Ixion was a corrupt mortal, who after killing his father in law and attempting to seduce Hera, was punished by Zeus to be strapped over a an ever spinning, solar flaming wheel. Tityus was a giant who attempted to rape Leto; the mother of Artemis and Apollo. After being slain by Apollo, the giant was punished in hades by being staked to the ground and having two vultures peck out his regenerating liver (similar to Zeus’ punishment for Prometheus with an eagle). The Belides (Daenaeds/water nymphs) were fifty daughters who were ordered by their father to murder their husbands on their wedding nights. In Tartarus they were cursed to carry water jars for eternity to fill an ever-emptying tub. Sisyphus was a trickster mortal who cheated death, and was cursed to roll a boulder uphill for eternity; another fruitless labor. The Furies (or Erinyes) were dark deities who punished mortals who spilled familial blood. The Furies were born from such an act, as when Uranus castrated his father, Cronos, they emerged from the blood. In the Greek tragedy; The Oresteia , they haunt Orestes for killing his mother, Clytemnestra.
As always, thanks for looking and reading!
