I'll never get over the fact that Jack has a "bad feeling" about something and then Jason looks like the villain for not having the same premonitions. Like what did he actually do that was so bad lol
Nothing.
And it's his shop not Jack's.
Anyway.

Hi Sol!! Idk if you do WBW, but if you do, here's some asks!!
How is healing done in your world? (Is it plant-based? Magic? Potions? Manufactured medicines?)
Are there any illnesses or conditions unique to your WIP?
How did you decide on the place names for your WIP? Is there a theme? Any special or hidden meanings?
What does your world look like geographically? One big continent? A string of islands? How does that set-up impact the plot or the worldbuilding?
I hope you have an awesome Wednesday!! :D
~Morri🗡 (@memento-morri-writes)
Hiii Morri @memento-morri-writes how are you?
Okay so (feels the rant coming?) to answer your questions i'm going to need a little help.
Tumblr media
This is part of the world the Zhareverse takes in. Most of it happens in the same continent you can see there (even though you can see a bit of another, in the down right corner) (i don't know where i put the map of the entire world :( )
This affects a lot of the worldbuilding, since it means the culture travels quite easily. Most of the continent follow the same religion - sepherism - for example.
For the name, there is no special meaning for places, but they phonetically inspired by real-life places and therefore culture.
Reenlane, the name of the country where Deeds by the Water takes place - is actually Rain-Land slightly modified (and the country is slightly inspired by England).
Esperizande and Fecchima are cities inspired by Italia, following a similar pattern :D
There are no special conditions or illness in the world, though.
For the medicine, it depends where you are in the continent :D Reenlane is technology-based medicine BUT enhanced by the knowledge and abilities people with magic can bring.
(People with magic - mostly known as zhares - are linked to a particular part of the environment. They cannot make potions or such, but they can understand better what are the specificities of a plant, or control the electricity flow of a machine.)
Thiracie, which is more religious, will follow a more exclusive technology-based medecine without the input of zhares because they are more prone to discriminate them.
In the north of the continent lives the Matku people who have their own traditionial medicine - nature based - and where the zhares are considered blessed and can have important roles such as healer.
Thank you so much for all of this questions, it was so fun :D

I listened to Darkness before Dawn so much as a kid that it's hard for me to hear it with adult ears. All these things that went over my head still go over my head bc I'm listening with the kids mind which almost had this saga memorized.

The "left in a hurry" vibes of the old village following the Nightsister genocide makes the whole place into a graveyard. Not to say that Dathomir, baseline, isn't a thriving microcosm of decay, but the prevalence of the Dark Side in the place makes the rot take a little quicker. The world's a little hungrier than most. A little more determined to take what remains of the ships and skiffs and structures picked clean by Nightbrother hands to salvage and conserve those few things that still serve a purpose.
They don't take much. Too many memories attached to the world that was before Maul arrived -- before construction began up the Peak. The prevailing notion that so much of those artifacts are cursed or haunted keeps them from over-reliance on the old ways.
Maul encourages the shifting paradigm:
A red dawn rises over Dathomir these days, and everything left draped in shadow, he insists, is better off buried anyway.

WAIT NO YOU GUYS DON'T EVEN GET IT THO cuz when you think about it way too hard Watts having a gambling problem and losing all his money to a bad bet in 1902 is actually so interesting.
Like. Have you considered the fact that 1902 was the same year that Daniel Marks was brutally murdered? And that in all likelihood the gambling thing started when he was lost in grief after losing his little brother? After he failed to protect him?
And have you considered the fact that in the season 12 finale when John gets shot and Watts blames himself for it, his first instinct is to go to a bar and place a stupid little plinko ball on the same exact spot on the board over and over and over again? All so that he can somehow discern how much he actually has control over (and can be blamed for) and how much of what happens is just cruel, unpredictable fate... based on a children's game?? Have you considered the fact that he was literally just compulsively testing the parameters of luck? I mean, what even is gambling if not that??? I barely feel like I'm clutching at straws at all here, it's kinda crazy

Killing Joke - "Darkness Before Dawn" From the album Night Time (February 1985)
Last song scrobbled from iTunes at Last.fm
Yeah, this is kind of like KJ's wilderness period. It's not completely terrible, but its greatness is definitely not quite so immediately obvious, as with earlier works ---

"Jason is so easy to control" -- Glossman
😪
Jason thinks he's doing so well and they're like ooh good weve got the guy who we can control in there
Improvisation is a good skill and essential skill for an agent.
However, impulsivity and reckless action can play right into the enemy's hands.

🎵There's a fire in my heart to keep the dark at bay But my defenses have decayed🎵
🎵So I pray for a change to begin inside For the courage to not run and hide Is it shame? Is it fear that controls my mind? When I wake, I can't tell what is right from the wrong But no matter what happens, I must carry on In the darkness before the dawn In the darkness before the dawn🎵
