I hate how tui wrote deathbringer and glory, deathbringer attempts to murder her and her siblings (and injures clay), and then later on when tsunami and glory are in the rainforest he stalks them and whistles the dragonet song which is somehow normal, when they are together deathbringer will not leave glory alone anywhere--even if she tolerates it it's unhealthy and shouldn't be normalized, she has absolutely no privacy and it's written as a cute relationship and he's just really overprotective ignoring the fact he was going to kill her

To the DoDs love interest, I assume they probably told you about their life under the mountain and their horrible abuse and mistreatment(particularly by Kestrel)
how did you feel when you learned about it?
“I’m glad they’re out now!” -Fatespeaker

I refuse to believe that Tui intentionally made the Glorybringer age gap. She's made a couple of writing choices that are....iffy,, but I don't think she would go as far to make one of her favourite characters date somebody twice her age.
It's a math error. Assassin takes place two years before the brightest night and we know he's four years old during the events of it. This makes him six years old when Glory is hatched. Add on another six and he's twice her age by the time they meet.
However, there's a couple things in the book that would leave me to believe otherwise. For starters, this line in Winter Turning.
For context, Deathbringer almost arrested Winter for trespassing into the Rainforest Kingdom. The NightWing referred here is him.
Note the use of the word "few". Few typically means 2-3. If Deathbringer was older (say literallt 12 years old), it would be more appropriate to say "several" or "many" or just simply "older" with nothing else. Winter in this book is 5 years old. This would mean that Deathbringer is anywhere from 7-8 years old.
Let's also not forget this line from The Dark Secret.
In this, Deathbringer is talking about Greatness. Greatness is nine years old. If Deathbringer has known her as being the surrogate ruler that Battlewinner uses to get her messages through, then this must mean that at MOST he is 9 years old. However, that would also imply that Greatness was doing this since the moment she came out of the egg, which is highly unlikely.
God the aging system in WoF sucks so much....
It's stuff like this which makes me less likely to jump at the bit when it comes to accusing Tui of making the age gap happen on purpose. Obviously it's a mistake. Tui's made some bad choices, but I don't think she would make her favourite relationship have such a nasty age gap, especially when the existence of Whirlpool is to literally warn kids about groomers. I can't even blame her for not talking about it. There's no way she doesn't know about it. If she talks about it, then it brings more attention to it and makes her look even worse. She'll probably try and retcon it in the Guide.
Honestly, I hope she does. I can't wait to get back to complaining about Glorybringer for how poorly written and executed it was without having to talk about something like this.
