There are two conflicting sides inside Neuvillette as far as his psyche goes. To him, Scylla is himself in a past life he has many gaps to fill for over 400 years until he recovers his authority and his nature as a dragon makes him look at this world from a grander perspective and to its inhabitants as per the proportion and impact on the world they have. What concerns his draconic side, death doesn't move him. It's part of the natural cycle of this world and just as death happens, so a new life is bound to be born. He as an entity akin to a God of Life knows this better than anyone, as insulting as it would be addressing to him as anything remotely similar to what the Usurper brought with himself.
Given his special circumstances due to his authority over hydro, Neuvillette has a deep sentience over others' emotions. In his past life when he was exceedingly older, these emotions ceased to have any effect on him, his nerves were more steeled. Because of his understanding of the world and all living creatures within it, as Scylla he had learned to acknowledge these emotions without letting himself be affected by them unless exceptions occurred.
But it is not so the case for Neuvillette, both when he had yet to reclaim his authority over hydro and afterwards. While his draconic nature continues to permeate his being, a new variable was added the moment he was reborn as human: humanity. And because of this humanity he now has, all those emotions he senses from all manners of water are more intense than they would if he was a dragon as he originally was. Learning about humans by living among them accentuates the intensity with which he feels the emotions of others, because he understands them— unlike when he used to be Scylla, as his understanding was more limited and enshrouded with draconic pride and hatred towards anything related to the Usurper. Nevertheless, despite everything Scylla was no tyrant and united with humans for one same purpose, as Neuvillette has for 400 years.
Because he's used to feel the emotions of others and because of what they transmit to him, Neuvillette struggles with his own emotions. In addition to his struggle to belong, being a creature in between dragon and human, doubts plague him within his process of learning about himself concerning his nature, what he should do with his life and where he should belong. Feeling his own emotions and with a bigger intensity than he would as Scylla is a novelty even if he were to count with all the memories of his past life that makes more difficult to understand himself. Though his pride as a dragon still remains, it's not out of sense of pride and superior complex that he doesn't understand himself— but because no matter how hard he tries, he doesn't.
Even after he imparts judgement over the humans of Fontaine to rid them of the curse, and even after he makes peace with himself that in truth, he belongs to both realms (human and light/vishap/dragon), figuring himself out will be a consuming exercise that he will have to endure for more years to come. Until then, were he asked what or who he is, he would lay an answer every time.
He's just Neuvillette.

Sotos Syndrome: An Educational Post on a Rare Genetic Disorder
Hey so, to follow up on the last reblog I added to this post about my wife: I realize most of you probably haven't heard of Sotos Syndrome, so I thought I'd talk a little about what it is and how it affects her. I'll put a couple of links here, but also briefly cover what it is and how she experiences it. She's given me permission to discuss it, and y'all are welcome to ask questions. If I can't answer them, I'll tag her in to help.
Note: She is also diagnosed with hEDS and POTS. This will be relevant later.
Sotos Syndrome is a rare condition resulting from a genetic mutation on chromosome 5 - specifically of the NSD1 gene. There are thought to be a wide variety of ways this gene mutation can occur and cause Sotos Syndrome, and the condition can manifest somewhat differently with different NSD1 mutations.
At the core of the disorder is rapid overgrowth in childhood; patients are taller and often heavier than their peers, and grow far faster. In some cases, this advanced growth timeline starts in the womb, and in other cases may start shortly after birth. Individuals with Sotos Syndrome typically have a larger cranial circumference than normal as well, though this often normalizes in adolescence or adulthood. The overgrowth almost always normalizes in adolescence or adulthood as well - patients usually reach a final height only slightly taller than would be expected of a healthy individual of the same sex and genetics. That is to say, the patient often ends up being on the tall end of normal, or a little taller, compared to other family members of the same sex.
Sotos Syndrome doesn't only cause rapid overgrowth; it affects bone development in several ways. Patients often have larger and heavier bones than average, large hands, and flat feet, as well as vertebral abnormalities (my wife suffers significant back pain due to several malformed vertebrae). Sotos Syndrome also almost always presents with specific facial features: a slight downward slant in the outer corners of the eyes, an enlarged forehead/brow bone, a pointed chin, a narrow face, thinner hair on the anterior (front) portion of the scalp, to name a few. These are usually most distinct when the patient is young, but typically some aspects are still noticeably present into adulthood (particularly the forehead and chin).
Children with Sotos Syndrome often experience developmental delays in a variety of areas, including speech/language, motor skills, social skills, and more. Some patients have intellectual disabilities, while others have normal intellectual and cognitive capabilities. Many have learning disorders such as ADHD, dyslexia, or dyscalculia. My wife has ADHD, dyslexia, and a communication issue (which we unfortunately don't have answers to from any doctor yet) that presents as fairly similar to aphasia. Some patients, especially as children, display "autistic-like behaviors" despite not actually having autism. My wife and I disagree on whether this is true of her (I, the actual autist of the relationship, think it is, but mildly). It can also cause anxiety (which she definitely has) and aggressive tendencies (which she couldn't possibly have less of).
Individuals with Sotos Syndrome often struggle with coordination and motor skills to varying degrees. Before knowing about her condition, I thought my wife was just the clumsiest person I'd ever met. As annoying as I'm sure that is for her, it also means that I often wind up with an accidental elbow to the face due to the combination of her lack of coordination and our size difference 🥲 Seizures and tremors are also a somewhat common problem. My wife has had a couple of seizures in the past, but typically only suffers from very occasional arm tremors. She also spontaneously loses her grip strength from time to time. I haven't seen this last one documented specifically as a symptom, but her neurologist says it's likely related. At least we have a good excuse to never own expensive glassware!
Another frequent symptom of Sotos Syndrome is joint laxity - an obvious overlap with EDS. I've been unable so far to find any documentation regarding the comorbidity of the two, but she has numerous EDS symptoms other than the joint issues, so our EDS specialist diagnosed it. She has hypotonia (reduced muscle tone) as well, a very common Sotos symptom. If she and a healthy woman lifted weights for the same amount of time, using the same regimen/diet/everything, she would see a fraction of the progress the other woman would. Her near-sightedness and mildly impaired hearing are also likely caused by this disorder, though EDS can impact hearing as well, and near-sightedness is not uncommon in general (and runs in her family, though strangely only in the women). Other possible symptoms include various tumors, acid reflux, and thickened skin, bone, and/or subcutaneous tissues.
I'm gonna wrap this up for now, though there are many more things I could dive into about this condition, but I may edit and add more later when I'm less exhausted. I hope this has been educational, and again, please feel free to ask me/us anything! 💓

The Night After
Summary: Following an impromptu vacation across the country, Kyojuro finds you in the last place he would've expected you to be. And he comes bearing news that will change your relationship forever.

Relief is what he felt, crashing into him like a tidal wave.
Kyojuro could kiss Tomioka after the news he had delivered. "She's safe," Giyuu stated plainly, though his glacial eyes glinted with his own repose. "She's safe and back at her apartment."
The dark-haired man slid a tablet into his boss' hands, the cold aluminum serving to ground Kyojuro. He could swear that Tomioka's lips twitched into a ghost of a smile. But he was too busy scrutinizing the flickering screen, watching you pace back and forth in your living room.
Kyojuro had never been so grateful for you granting him access to your indoor cameras. Despite the anxiety pumping liquid fire through his veins, Kyojuro chuckled. He laughed for the first time in weeks, earning a few curious glances from his men. You'd wear a hole into the laminate if you kept stomping around like that. Fondness crept into him. Pricked his fingertips and ears.
"—ir?"
Kyojuro shook his head, tearing his attention from the display. He glanced at Tomioka with his brows shooting up into his hairline and parted lips as if he had been caught doing something sinful. His subordinate wore an expectant look. Straightened his tie and stood in good form, folding one of his hands overtop the other. Repeated in a measured tone, "would you like me to send for a driver, sir?"
He pondered Tomioka's question. Turned it over in his mind like the flip of a coin. Gazed down at the floor in deep contemplation, sifting through all the outcomes. You had returned for a reason. Returned to your apartment, no less. You knew it was one of the first places Kyojuro would look after he'd received word of your resurgence. Which meant you wanted him to find you.
Seconds ticked by before a wide grin broke out on the blond's face. It was youthful in nature. Boasted his pearly whites. He was happy. You were alive. Looked to be in one piece, though by the slight limp in your stride, he knew you weren't 100 percent. Kyojuro's eyes flit to Tomioka's. He reached out a reassuring hand, squeezing his subordinate's shoulder. "No. I don't think I will need one," Kyojuro replied. Resisted an impulse to hug the other man; he was so elated. Yet added, "but please send for Kocho and have her head to my girl's place. I feel she might need medical attention."
Tomioka nodded curtly. Excused himself as he fetched his phone from his pocket to execute said order, striding towards the door. Kyojuro let his shoulders drop. Felt the tension in his muscles slowly ebb away as he listened to his subordinates prattle around him. He would be miffed later. Would save the unbridled rage he felt towards whoever hurt you for some other time.
He had a job to do. Had to do it alone. And his subordinates watched with varying degrees of concern as their leader tore through them in his quest for the door, car keys jangling noisily in his unsteady hand.

He's never been a nervous man. Prides himself on remaining level-headed in every situation, no matter how dire or bleak the outcome. Even as everyone else dissolves into pandemonium around him, Kyojuro always maintains his composure.
Except when it comes to you.
Anticipation singes his innards. The leather of his steering wheel squeaks in his steely grasp. He peers out of his tinted window, inspecting your building as if he expects you to come sprinting down the stairs into his arms. He feels silly, much like a giddy adolescent on his first date. Like he hasn't seen you a thousand times before. Naked, at that. But tonight feels different. He wants to make a good impression. Hasn't seen you for weeks following your impromptu excursion across the country.
Kyojuro rubs the nape of his neck. Growls at his idiocy. You're not his property. You're his friend, his partner, his lover. His vice. Your extended absence—along with some tough love from Shinazugawa and Himejima—convinced him of that.
He had manacled you for too long. Treated you like a caged bird, as his Second Lieutenant so eloquently put it. Drove you away in more ways than one. This time, he wants to do things right. Protect you from everything and everyone, including himself.
Even if that means letting you go.
The crime lord swallows his resolve, the taste of it bitter and thick in texture, blistering his throat. He'll have to man up at some point to face you. The crisp October breeze wades over his flushed skin whilst he tears himself from his sleek, blacked-out Mustang GT Premium Fastback. It's your favorite ride in his collection—he'd bought it off the set of Gotham, knowing you had a soft spot for The Bat. Maybe he'll let you take it for one last spin if you're up to it. In the meantime, Kyojuro dashes up the staircase, taking the steps two at a time.
He can't help feeling antsy when he dumps himself into the dimly-lit breezeway. Breaths labor as he marches up to your door, the bold, onyx numbers glowering at him intimidatingly. He's about to rap on the emerald-painted entrance, but it swings inward before his knuckles can connect. A swell of warmth and the comforting scent of patchouli oil greet him, all wringing out from your cozy abode.
His expectant look melds into disappointment as he glances at an indicative butterfly clip adorning ebony, violet-stained locks. Kocho Shinobu gives him a telling look, though her featureless irises glint with caution. She wears a fake smile as she steps into the hallway. Pats Kyojuro on his arm, standing about a foot below him.
"Be gentle," Kocho warns. She is one of the few women in his life not intimidated by his status. One of few not afraid to humble him, but a damn good medic, nonetheless. "She has a few cuts and bruises. Nothing too serious."
Kyojuro nods in understanding. The corner of his lips twitches skyward, brows knit with a subtle melancholy. As if passing off a baton, Kocho slinks past him, her sizeable medical bag rattling with her instruments. The two brush arms whilst she passes. One last warning for him to take it easy before Kocho disappears in the stairwell. Kyojuro ventures forward. Swallows profusely, inwardly preparing himself for what awaits him within.
This may be the last time he sees you like this. So he'll have to make it count.

Photo Restoration: Adventures in Upscaling - Part 1
After finishing my big photo restoration for Katrina's family I was organizing my files and noticed a scan I missed.
The scan was fairly low resolution and the photos were only 400x700 pixels.
But I was bored and restoring photos helps me relax, so I decided to fix them up anyway—even if they did not have great fidelity.
I did my thing, and it worked pretty well.
But I have been interested in a set of photo tools made by Topaz Labs. They are known for their noise removal and upscaling apps and are praised by many photographers I follow.
Before I jumped into this A.I. suite of tools I wanted to make sure it was trained ethically with licensed images—same as how Adobe operates.
So that made me feel better about that aspect. Plus I feel this is exactly the kind of thing A.I. is great for. A tool to help artists rather than displace them.
I have used a few upscalers in the past and have had varying degrees of success. Typically they just implore various sharpening tools and try to control the chunky artifacts with denoising tools—trying to find the best balance between the two.
Two opposites trying to reach a compromise.
But I was not expecting the results I got. This is way beyond anything I have ever tried before and I had no idea the technology had improved this much.
Here are the results...
All photos will be displayed in order of original, my edit, Topaz upscale followed by extremely zoomed in crops to help you better see the effects.

Topaz has a specific "face recovery" algorithm and I was curious if these results were only because of that.
But then I looked at this little guy and he seemed pretty sharp as well.
I was stunned at how well this was working. I was able to upscale these photos so they could be printed as an 8x10 with 300ppi resolution.
Maybe that first photo was just a fluke, so I proceeded with the others.
Santa's face was mostly obscured, but it was still able to work its magic despite that.

At this point I felt like I was a caveman discovering fire for the first time.
This next photo is interesting because it has a very creepy clown clearly plotting to kill baby Katrina. And the clown has on full makeup, which could confuse the face recovery.

The clown face looked great, but there were two interesting artifacts involving text.
First, there was not nearly enough information on the clown's button. So the A.I. did its thing and rendered nonsense. I found a smiley face button and just did some classic compositing.
There was also a bottle of Elmer's glue on the table and even though I felt there was enough detail to make out the words, the A.I. still struggled. So I found a bottle of vintage glue with the same label and replaced it.
And it kinda feels nice that A.I. can't do everything yet and I still have to use my problem solving skills to make the best photo possible.

3. Are they open about their relationship? How do they feel about public displays of affection?
BRAN/SABINE — yeah!! maybe not the Most open given sabine's general disinterest in disclosing any personal information to anyone, but bran's got that greedy possessive edge and even if she's not announcing it in so many words, she likes to leave her mark. she's also very happy to engage in PDA, but she'll take her cues from sabine about how public (or affectionate) said displays are
VESPER/CULLEN — they're pretty private about it, but once they're settled in they don't go out of their way to hide it. vesper definitely has a quiet word with the war council to let them know what's going on (both josephine and leliana already knew; cassandra's reaction was about a 50/50 split between "wow romance" and "really? cullen??" which is valid of her). vesper isn't big on PDA (the battlements kisses are NOT canon in her playthru sorry), but that won't stop them from exchanging small touches or glances.
8. What do the like best about their partner?
BRAN/SABINE — her wife is a bitch and bran loves her so much. she likes sabine's sharp tongue and her wit and her willingness to stand her ground on things and how scrappy she can be. she also like when sabine sheathes her claws and lets branwen get close. it's about being the exception to the rule.
VESPER/CULLEN — vesper likes how steady he is and also his sense of humor. it's just as dry and tired as hers, and one of the first things he ever did was make her laugh. that means a lot to her. (she also really likes his shoulders.) cullen likes her patience and her mercy and the iron in her spine
21. Do they share any interests or hobbies?
BRAN/SABINE — they're both adrenaline junkies to a degree. sabine's more a fan of a fight and bran loves a thrill but they really egg each other on. bran's also interested in sabine's art and will try out the wheel if invited, though she's not into it the way sabine is.
VESPER/CULLEN — does keeping southern thedas from burning itself down count? they're all both lowkey farm kids—cullen much more recently, but vesper's family raised dogs and horses before her father inherited the bann title, and they share an interest in animal husbandry. vesper's also more of a tactician than she realized pre-inquisition, and they both enjoy chess and puzzles and the satisfaction of building a well-oiled machine. nerd4nerd
30. Could they manage a long distance relationship?
BRAN/SABINE — definitely. they're both a little transient to begin with (one of the other things they have in common) and they'd be able to handle long distance. not that they'd want to, but given bran's need to go every now and then, it's kind of inevitable.
VESPER/CULLEN — they could manage extended trips (honestly that's pretty much canon given how often the inquisitor is out in the field) but I think they'd have trouble with real long distance. not because of commitment but because they're both so prone to digging themselves into work and not being able to dig back out. one of the reasons they work so well together is the team/co-working situation they've got going on.
39. Who initiated the relationship? Who kissed who first? When did they realize they were in love?
BRAN/SABINE — bran, but it was a casual thing for a while, or at least they were pretending it was a casual thing for a while. it took some time to settle into the shape of an actual relationship. the exact moment bran realized it was Love varies 'verse to 'verse, but it definitely involved Sabine getting into a fight.
VESPER/CULLEN — vesper. she initiated, she kissed him first. she's slow to open up and he's incredibly respectful of her boundaries, and despite the crush he spent months and months nursing, he waited for her to make the first move. (she knew she loved him before she kissed him but she doesn't remember when exactly she realized. in the middle before she knew it had begun etc etc. he knew when she came limping out of the ruins of haven and the relief nearly brought him to his knees.)
45. Any special dreams or goals they have as a couple? Any heartbreaks? Regrets?
BRAN/SABINE — I don't think there's anything particularly special they're dreaming of. they're both pretty chill about their relationship, which is maybe a surprise given what they're like as individuals. definitely there are some AUs (dark au, star wars au) that involve more heartbreak and regret than others, but I think in the grand scheme of things they're pretty okay.
VESPER/CULLEN — making it through the war was a pretty big goal for both of them, and after that it took some time to figure out what they wanted more long term. cullen's goal to get and stay clean is also pretty important for both of them. they both have personal regrets, but there's little heartbreak or regret in the relationship itself

THE KOKYTANS.
Blue-skinned and translucent, all of their organs are visible from the outside. They are all 5'0" max, aside from one-- Ollvrox. That one in particular is barely under six feet but this is considered a mutation, one that finds them outcasted amongst the enslaved subjects under Maiz's reign. Ollvrox is, also unfortunately, the Eldest Living Kokytan that remembers life before her invasion and subsequent conquest. They are 60.
The Kokytans have no concept of gender nor sex, as they have no outer or inner genitalia. They all look the same, more or less. They don't discern or understand differences aside from genetic mutations. B.M. (Before Maiz), if one was found to have a mutation, they were either exiled from mainstream society (becoming the scientist/medic caste) or they were studied (modern concepts of medicine and technology came out of these practices).
When Maiz crash landed, there were thousands upon thousands of them. During the siege, that number dipped drastically. After they surrendered to her, the population recovered, but the numbers were never the same. If they weren't dying because they performed their new duties incorrectly or they didn't address her properly, it was due to botched operations and forced medical procedures. Around this time, a hundred Kokytans were sacrificed, tortured and killed in order for Maiz to master her new technique: COLD INSTINCT.
The Kokytans are a telepathic Race. Although they have mouths (which would suggest a digestive tract, and therefore a stomach), they don't speak with it. Their ki technique allows them to bind themselves to one another ala hive mind, and track each other as well as 'hijack' another Kokytan's body if they sense one of them is in danger. Due to many of the original Kokytans dying off during Maiz's siege, it's unknown whether this was natural, brought out because of evolution, or if it was a side effect of the experiments under her orders. None of them would be able to tell you. To make things worse, many of them have abandoned their old ways and their scientific minds are now geared towards violence and war. Regardless-- their thoughts are charged by their ki, and they can project them into their target's head*.
Kokytans have cerulean-colored blood and purple organs. Therefore, their veins, nervous system, brain, etc are all varying shades of purple. To be frank, the Kokytans are an atrocious, hideous Race without the charm of being/looking humanoid. Their eyes are small, beady and luminous under low lighting, their teeth shrink with each generation, growing more uneven and their lips are salmon pink-- cracked, and dry. Their heads are elongated and squid-like. They have hollow cheekbones. Three to four fingers on each hand with no opposable thumbs (the flesh underneath their fingertips can be adhesive to grab onto objects easier). Modern Kokytans have sturdy, strong shoulders and resilient arms but the rest of their strange bodies are terribly squishy. Despite Maiz's best efforts, the Kokytans are just not made for fighting. They are useful in other ways though, and she mainly employs them for their scientific and technological know-how, their espionage potential, as bodyguards, grunt/foot soldiers, as a display of power or force, etc.
BONUS:
While Planet Kokytus wasn't the first planet she ravaged (that honor goes to Frieza Planet #699999), it was the first she conquered. This feat was achieved at the ripe age of 11.
Planet Kokytus is a crystalline wonderland of frost, ice and cold (Think of Krypton's Fortress of Solitude except it's everywhere). Amazingly like Earth, they have four seasons but they're all variations of coldness. One could say they experience different degrees of an eternal winter. Water is present on the planet as well. Since most of Kokytus is frozen, the water underneath is either clean or holds pollutants (from the partial Genocide Maiz wrought upon them. This remains a current problem as the planet has underwent a bit of a climate crisis because of her; there is slightly less ice and the mountains are melting slowly . . . .)**
**Water filtration systems were built. A.M. (After Maiz) Kokytans fell ill and got sick because of the water. The Kokytans that came after developed robust immune systems as a result of this.
A decade after she asserted herself as the High Queen of Kokytus, a rogue Kokytan buckled under the weight of her tyranny and broke through the carefully crafted hive mind to try to kill her. The would-be murder weapon was similar to a polearm. The attempt backfired spectacularly, even though she was caught off guard by the 'outburst'. After the individual was subdued, she had them cooked. She never ate a Kokytan again (or drank their blood) after that incident-- "they taste disgusting. How disappointing."
*Their ki allows them to supercharge their feelings and thoughts. Since the Earthly definition of emotions are "the physical way feelings are expressed", it would be entirely accurate to say their ki technique is essentially that-- applied feelings/emotions weaponized as telepathy. They can use that ability to 'read' thoughts but that's a misnomer; what they're really doing is reading ki signature. If there's an intent or feeling behind it, best believe a Kokytan can and will pick it up.

i think there’s a spectrum of transformers material regarding chemistry and intimacy between the characters.
one end of the spectrum is material where characters exist to fight, to shoot, and to fight and shoot at each other; there is no depth to these characters’ interactions beyond whether they choose to defeat or be defeated. their personalities may be on display, but not towards each other. if one shoots the other, they’re reacting to what shot them, not who shot them. none of the characters hesitate to shoot at their teammates. death is not personal, but a regularity. you could replace either character with an unrelated character, and it’d have the same depth. there is no chemistry or intimacy between the characters.
the other end of the spectrum is material where the characters are treated as people first; there is much depth in their interactions with each other, which serves to develop them as people. their personalities either flow or clash, giving us an idea of how they feel about each other. reactions to the person causing them pain ranges from anger, dread, misery, and even outright confusion. death is very personal, with some never even moving on throughout the rest of story. who these characters are matters in the context of their interaction; they cannot be swapped out with another. there is chemistry and intimacy between the characters.
the ends of the spectrum may be displayed in different ways throughout the wide range of transformers material to go through, but they often fit the bill. take the majority of the dreamwave comics: these characters do not talk to each other but at each other, almost every page is dedicated to a physical fight between characters, things happen but do not develop, and the characters treat each relationship as interchangeable. there is no genuine intimacy, chemistry, or even hospitality between these characters—not even within the good guys. bayverse is another example, where more time is dedicated to ensure the characters look interesting rather than are interesting. death is impersonal in these. you can argue this impacts even recent beloved installments, even if to a lesser degree (i.e. animated not letting sentinel and optimus truly have a intimate interaction, and one that is also not forgotten by next time).
then there’s the opposite end of the spectrum, which i feel is not as pravalent as many people think despite efforts being made within the franchise to tell enriching stories. this is where the characters are the story; there is much depth, complexity and intimacy between these characters to be explored. take what i think is indisputably the prime example of this: beast wars. characters talk and interact with each other differently depending on who they are, how they feel about each other, and what they know about the other; the conflict is spread out between the characters interacting with each other, from battle plans to new threats to what they discovered from an exploration; things are placed onto the characters, and develop with them into a more complex situation (i.e. primal is mind controlled -> the others are scared, as is primal himself -> tensions arise as the maximals all have different plans to fix this, including primal himself); all the characters have different, varying relationships with each other dependent on specific interactions and circumstances. there is so much chemistry and intimacy on display, not just emotionally but physically as well; characters hold hands, embrace, and even cry over each other. the question is not “what will the story do next?” but “what will the characters do next?”
this is much harder to write, because it requires characters to matter in the stories being told. it requires characters to be specific, not generic. you can replace a lot of characters in the bayverse movies with each other and nothing changes, because the story is not specific to them; you cannot replace dinobot in code of hero, because that is a story specific to dinobot.
the characters are the most important, arguably more important than the story. good characters can save a bad story, but a good story cannot save bad characters because a good story with bad characters simply doesn’t exist. i think that’s why the quality of transformers installations comes down to the characters; specific characters can save a generic story, but a specific story with generic characters doesn’t exist and if it does, it’s not good. the more intimate and complex the characters and their interactions are, the more interesting any piece of material is.
tl;dr transformers is at its best when the characters are interesting, specific and intimate.

I have laid eyes upon Inordinately Bazoomified Doujin Yang. I will probably do so again soonish. And I'm still five miles past Done with that stupid-ass 90s comic-vintage rendition trick where you have acres of cleavage right up to the arbitrary nipple line on whomever's outfit, but apparently the character's either taping 'em down or a mannequin. Or possibly some type of overdesigned Atlesian sexbot assassin. But yes, the Ruby hips are even dumber in this context.
I'm actually not as heated by the bimbofied Yang shit as I am when people do it for Ruby despite my ferocious love for Yang because Yang's at least been presented as "the sexy one"/the fanservice character (seriously, it started in the Yellow Trailer. The first part of her we see is her legs, then her legs, then her legs, then her ass, then her hips swinging as she does her sexy walk as she enters the club, and then a couple shots that emphasize her rack) throughout the series. When the audience sees Yang, we're supposed to think "Damn, That's a Total Hottie", we're supposed to start making cartoon heart eyes irl, our hearts are supposed to start going ba-dump ba-dump ba-dump, we're supposed to start drooling like Scooby Doo when he sees a Scooby Snack, and it's a logical conclusion that when a character like that exists, people will draw them naked.
Porn of Ruby specifically bugs the hell out of me because at least the other 3 are a) legal by the standards of both Remnant and Texas (where I live and where Rooster Teeth is based) b) are 18 outright by the time of Volume 3 at the latest and c) are designed in ways intended to be sexy: Weiss has a titty window on at least 2 outfits, Blake wears tight pants and shows off her midriff in multiple outfits, and Yang always dresses to display cleavage and has that dumb thigh window as part of her Atlas outfit (I truly do not like the Atlas outfits at all, I really don't). All three of them are designed to be attractive/beautiful/sexy to varying degrees of each and receive romantic attention in-universe, whereas Ruby seems designed to be more innocent and cute in this specific sense (like I don't get the vibe that the audience is supposed to be attracted to Ruby the way they are for the other three), so it's honestly kinda strange that the porn artists fixate on her so heavily.
Idk, maybe I'm the weird one for seeing a character who was obviously designed to be attractive to men and becoming attracted to her instead of her underage sister
I have mixed feelings on the cleavage thing because on the one hand seeing outfits like that always makes me wonder how they stay on, but on the other hand I am a firm proponent of showing off lots of boobage and whatever else its faults, this strat works well for that specifically.
On that note, I still don't know how Blake goes to the bathroom in her Atlas outfit.

Viewing Response: School Daze
Spike Lee's second feature School Daze utilizes an atypical narrative structure that is fashioned around the concept of divisions of varying degrees. Interestingly, despite the film's exploration of race through this concept of division, a literal racial divide of Black and white Americans is not at all the focal point of Lee's narrative. Lee instead features practically no white characters in the film and directs his lens towards divisions within the Black community itself across the lines of class, gender, and age.
These nuanced, intersecting divisions frequently come to a head throughout the film through different kinds of "face-offs," in which two opposing groups argue their differing perspectives on their racial identity through mediums that range from lover's spats to song and dance to violence. One particular face-off stood out the most to me.
The scene in which Dap and friends argue with Samuel L Jackson (Leeds) and friends seemed to be quite a divergence from the rest of the film. This was one of the few scenes to take place outside of Mission's campus, and featured a debate between two generations of Black men, rather than between peers at the same college. Jenkins describes the grim conclusions reached in this argument, writing "Leeds posits clearly, in this scene, that Dap and his friends—no matter how white their privilege supposedly makes them—can never escape the most oppressive and dehumanizing effects of blackness" (636). In line with this description, I found that Leeds' words were kind of a "reality check" and displayed how the distinctions created among the students at Mission play out in spaces beyond their campus. Leeds accusations also completely inverted how Dap and his friends saw themselves throughout the rest of the film. Prior to this argument, Dap, Rachel and their associates distinguished themselves from the Wannabes by asserting that they are more natural and more connected to their African heritage, implying that they are perhaps "more" Black. Leeds, on the other hand, says "I bet y’all do think y’all white" to the very group that seemed assured of the opposite. The inclusion of this scene was very clever to me, and displayed how many different layers of identity interact with one another and can completely alter perceptions of racial identity.

The universe’s lamp, the sun, forms a window onto the existence and unity of the universe’s Maker that is as brilliant and luminous as the sun itself. Indeed, despite their great differences with regard to size, position, and speed, the twelve planets including our globe known as the solar system are in motion and revolve with perfect order and wisdom and perfect balance without a second’s confusion, and are bound to the sun through a Divine law known as gravity, that is, they follow their leader as though in prayer. This demonstrates on a vast scale the tremendousness of Divine power and the unity of their Sustainer. Those lifeless bodies, those vast unconscious masses, are rotated and employed within the utmost order and wise balance, in various forms and over varying distances and in varying motions, proving the degree of the power and the wisdom; you compare for yourself. If chance was to interfere the tiniest amount in this vast and complex matter, it would cause an explosion so great it would scatter the universe. If it was to arrest the motion of one of them for a minute, it would cause it to leave its orbit and would open the possibility of its colliding with another planet. It has been made a dominical ship filled with the wonders of Divine art, and a travelling dwelling like an exhibition, for God’s conscious servants to gaze on. And the moon has been attached to it with precise reckoning for mighty instances of wisdom, like being an hour-hand for telling the time. The moon too has been given various mansions through which to journey. Thus, these aspects of this blessed planet of ours prove the necessary existence and unity of a Possessor of Absolute Power with a testimony as powerful as the globe of the earth itself. You can make an analogy with the rest of the solar system from this.
Furthermore, the sun is made to turn on its own axis like a spinning-wheel, in order to wind into a ball the immaterial threads called gravity and tie the planets with them and set them in order. So too is it impelled together with its planets at a speed that cuts five hours’ distance a second towards, according to one estimate, the Constellation of Hercules, or towards the ‘Sun of Suns’. This most certainly occurs through the power and at the command of the All-Glorious One, the Monarch of Pre-Eternity and Post-Eternity. It is as though He makes the solar system perform these manoeuvres like a platoon of soldiers under orders, and so demonstrates the majesty of His dominicality.
O you astronomers! What chance can interfere in these matters? The hands of what causes can reach them? What force can draw close to this? Come on, you say! Would an All-Glorious Monarch such as this display impotence and permit others to have a role in his sovereignty? Would He give to other hands living creatures in particular, which are the fruit, result, aim, and essence of the universe? Would He permit another to interfere? Especially man, would He leave him to his own devices, the most comprehensive of those fruits, the most perfect of the results, vicegerent of the earth, and His mirror-like guest? Would He refer him to nature and chance and reduce the majesty of His sovereignty to nothing; reduce to nothing His perfect wisdom?

Arturian Realm: Underworld Structures
Overview of the Arturian Realm:
Administered by the Third Level Society, founded in the year 1243, the Arturian Realm is an interplanetary realm spanning multiple star systems, each hosting multiple gas giant systems, each of which are home to multiple planets. Each planet contains a Terraworld, Divineworld, Dungeonworld, and Underworld.
Typical Underworld:
A typical Underworld on a particular planet in the Arturian Realm is accessible through specific Temples in the Terraworld or Dungeonworld as well as through natural chasms in a Dungeonworld on said planet. While the surface of a planet's Terraworld faces out into the cosmos, the surface of its Underworld faces inward toward the center of the planet. An Underworld's landscape consists usually of continents of barren stone and rock separated by lakes and oceans of fiery magma. Meanwhile, a Ball of Fire in the center of the planet, "above" the Underworld landscape, casts a constant reddish-orange hue of fiery light. And around this Ball of Fire orbits four small rocky netherworld globes, each of which being home to a deity-equivalent stronghold.
The weather of an Underworld is fundamentally different from that of its Terraworld counterpart in that it is fire-based rather than water-based. The said Ball of Fire in the center will occasionally send out flares which lash the Underworld landscape with torrents of fire and magma, which will eventually pour into the fiery lakes and oceans. The said fiery lakes and oceans also send out similar but smaller flares.
Meanwhile, the Underworld landscape consists of villages, cities, city-states, nations, and empires. And these entities, along with nomadic entities, travel by land as well as by boats of metal and stone across the fiery lakes and oceans to either trade with each other or compete against each other, similar to the dynamics of the Terraworld.
The difference here, however, is that avatar beings native to the Underworld are immortal and spiritual. They can gain power more easily but can also be destroyed, or unmade easily, despite being immortal. These beings do not need to eat or metabolize. And the spiritual forms in which they exist consist of varying degrees, ranging from shapeless clouds to semi-physical bodily forms.
Again, while these beings are immortal, their forms can be destroyed, and are often destroyed in battles and conflicts. Daemons cast by avatars here are lost forever, and have to be remade by Underworld avatars. For the avatars, themselves, if they are unmade, their spirits are sent to one of the four netherworlds where special Underworld priests remake them, often at the cost of either Arturian credits, or, in some cases, an unusual demand such as the sacrifice of a particular spirit.
Most avatars enter the Underworld as an alternative to resurrection whenever the said avatar dies in the Terraworld. The lure with the Underworld option is, obviously, the immortality as well as how easy it is to gain power. That, of course, makes things more competitive in some Underworlds. But nonetheless, many Society Members pursue this option.
The Usurping of a Particular Underworld:
Sometimes an avatar, or even a daemon, will be powerful enough to cast some sort of influence over a particular Underworld and succeed in rendering it to display wildly abnormal characteristics. Though this is rare, it has happened a few times throughout the history of the Third Level Society.
One particular example was in the year 1281. A figure by the name of the White Baroness had managed to alter the Underworld of Prestia Minor CCL so that it became a world completely void of heat and fire, and completely filled with snow, ice, and glass. Not only that, but the White Baroness also managed to subject numerous Underworlds across numerous star systems in the same fashion. This became such an issue that many Society Members at the time began speculating that some individual was behind the casting of the White Baroness and was doing so in order to infiltrate the Society. Such a theory was bolstered by the fact that the White Baroness was nowhere to be found in the Society Member-Avatar Roster.
A prominent Society Member by the name of Meona Bell was able to pinpoint the cause behind the White Baroness ordeal, discovering that, in fact, no one person was actually behind the casting of the White Baroness, but that the White Baroness was, in fact, a fourth-generation daemon cast by a class of daemons cast by another class of daemons left over by a former Member who left years previously. In other words, it was an anomaly. To note, daemons are avatars formed by Member-backed avatars. Daemons are designed to carry out certain tasks but also to interact with their environment in an independent way. The conscience and moral decision-making mechanisms of a daemon are based on dymensional plane algorithms which operate with a precarious balance of bias versus randomness. Therefore, there is always a small risk that a Realm-altering anomaly may emerge requiring intervention from a dymensional plane Administrator. The White Baroness is a perfect example.
And it is important to assess this risk on a regular basis because any effect on a dymensional plane needing reversal cannot simply be done by a "reset." Administrators must reverse the effects of an anomaly through processes natural to the world of the dymensional plane. For example, once the White Baroness was made to no longer exist, Administrators had to investing time and resources by having Contributors cast powerful avatars to thaw the frozen Underworlds and then to reignite the fires.
The Underworld Structure of Planet Arturia:
The structure of the Underworld of the original Planet Arturia is fundamentally different from the structure of a typical Underworld, in that its traversable surface is contained solely upon Five Great Netherworlds floating around an Underworld Void. Each Netherworld here is home to a Deity of one of the Five Nations, imprisoned after the Uprising of the Common People, a matter to be discussed in a later article.
There is no Ball of Fire here, nor are there lakes and oceans of fire. Rather, there are globular strands of infernal plasma floating around the Underworld Void, bearing resemblance to a lava lamp. The Netherworlds themselves are barren rocky landscapes with villages, cities, and city-states. Political and trade dynamics here are just like said dynamics in the other Underworlds. Though that is the only similarity.
