hi grizzly-bear-official! i have a question that is kinda gross, but i hope it's not super weird. anyways, i was wondering: can bears vomit? i'm just curious because i know bears can and will eat anything they can get their paws on, no matter how rancid or rotten it is, but what if it makes them sick? do they vomit to purge the toxins out, or do they seek out and eat something that they know will help, like rats?

yes, bears are capable of throwing up. a bear that ate something bad (garbage it couldn't digest, poison berries, etc) would most likely do so to prevent itself from getting sick.

however, there have also been reported instances of bears self-medicating with medicinal plants, though these instances are not widely studied.

the phenomena of animals utilizing natural medicinal resources to their advantage is known as zoopharmacognosy (zoo: animal, pharma: medicine, cognos: to know). there are a bunch of animals that do this other than bears, but it's been most widely studied in primates.

The most notable usage of medicinal plants by bears is their use of Oshá root (translated literally to bear root). Brown bears coming out of hibernation will often seek it out - both to eat it and to chew it into a paste to rub on their bodies. The Oshá root helps stimulate their digestion and appetite.

(I am not very knowledgeable about this, but as a sidenote: Oshá root has been widely used by Indigenous North American tribes for generations. If anyone who knows more about this or has better resources would like to add onto this post, please feel free to.)

I’m redoing my AI au because I didn’t know where to go with the story as well as some not good designs. It’s now heavily inspired by the concept in @/zipsunz Little Mari AU with a Dreamworld Persona along with a Dreamer Persona and an inherited dreamworld, but that is all that I want to take.

You might be wondering why Ai doesn’t have an animated sprite. I got tired and didn’t want to do it due to lazy things.

Real World Designs

NOTES

Only Homura and Madoka have different colours in their designs due to the importance they have.

After the events of the anime, when Madoka gave Homura her ribbons, she also inadvertently gave Homura a small part of her power, which became a replica of Madoka’s Dreamscape.

Dreamscape was originally just a place where Madoka could daydream with her friends, but when Homura took over as the dreamer, it became an escapism mechanism.

Homura layered Dreamscape over her true mental world; the Hospital, where her traumas and nightmares lurk.

She split into two parts in her mind; DW Homura, the aspect that acts out her ideal life with her friends and Ai, who watches it act out and is the main defence against aspects from the Hospital leaking out.

Her something is “Someone” which takes the form of a rotting corpse like zombie. It is formed after years of watching her friends die brutally in front of her.

Her stranger is “Friend?” Which is a small aspect of the real Madoka trying to guide Homura to find help and have her stop using Dreamscape as an escape mechanism.

Homura met Nagisa in a few timelines, although they are sparse she always gravitated towards Mami.

DW Madoka is the Mari/Basil character who acts as the save point in game.

Mami is the one setting up the picnics, but Madoka is the one maintaining it.

Mami and Nagisa take the form of a single unit, with a move called “PASS” which switches Nagisa and Mami’s moveset to the other.

All of the characters are younger than they are in real life. This is based off of Homura’s and several other characters not really having a good childhood, with Homura stuck in a hospital and orphaned, Kyoko being called a witch by her father and killing himself with his family, Mami losing her parents in a car accident, Sayaka developing serious self loathing issues still in middle school, and Nagisa being verbally abused and losing her mother.

Homura’s phobias are lepidophobia, claustrophobia, and ementophobia.

Sayaka can become MISERABLE, Kyoko can become FURIOUS, and Mami and Nagisa can become MANIC

Instead of sprout moles and bunnies being the common enemy, space rabbits are.

Amy hangs out with Madoka at the picnic blanket.

Sayaka uses sports equipment (baseball bats, hagiotas), Mami and Nagisa use Baking Tools (teapots, whisks), Kyoko uses bags and containers, (Paper Bag, Bento Box) and Homura uses Cameras.

Ai can be found in distances watching you from afar.

Homura has been inside for a year.

Thoughts on TMNT: Mutant Mayhem

Without spoilers, I feel the need to say that to anyone considering the film just as a warning it does contain flashing lights, scenes that may trigger ementophobia, and severe body horror. Spoilers below:

I don't usually write my thoughts on films but I saw mutant mayhem today and I have MANY THOUGHTS and no one to talk to about them so here are some of my thoughts on the movie:

I really liked that Donatello wasn't portrayed as a super genius like he is in a lot of the other iterations, he is my favorite turtle and I don't dislike this characterization, but I do think that making him a more realistically nerdy kid helped him feel more like a normal teenager. (though I really did not like his interest in attack on titan like kid that's fascist propaganda get outta there!)

I loved how ugly all the baby mutants look and I mean this in the most affectionate way possible, baby superfly my beloved.

The shell cracking scene was BRUTAL, in fact the whole movie was kind of brutal like Splinter kills a man on screen I am very surprised that the age rating isn't higher, and it probably should have been anyway because it did seem like they were going for a darker tone at some points.

Speaking of, maybe I just missed some things but I feel like some scenes were cut or some context was left out because when the turtles leave TCRI with Splinter he says he is taking them home, but in the next scene we see them he's going with the turtles to stop superfly? Maybe I misheard or he was saying it as a joke but I was a little confused.

Speaking of, I really enjoyed the music and voices but was it just me or was it hard to make out what the turtles were saying sometimes?

The scene where the mutants accept the turtles also felt a bit oddly paced, and the mutated version of superfly confused me a bit because of the zoo animals mutated on him, though from what I read I guess when he fell through that building there was a zoo underneath? I don't remember them saying that though.

The ages of the characters was also a confusing point, Splinter explains that he and the turtles are different ages because he was mutated when he was older and they were mutated when they were young, but we see all the other mutants as babies in Baxter's lab so how come they are different ages? The only thought I have would be maybe they age differently depending on how their animal counterpart ages but I really have no idea.

I don't know how I feel about Leo's crush on April but I do think it was handled better than Donnie's crush in the 2012 version of TMNT, and I like that it wasn't the main focus of their relationship.

I feel like some of the mutants should have been used more? I don't remember a whole lot about Leatherhead, Ray Filet, and Genghis, there's a big cast of characters so it isn't too big a problem, but it was noticeable.

I really love the found family aspect of the film though, it's cool seeing the mutants be a lot more humanized than the other series, and I thought the Scumbug and Splinter relationship was a welcome surprise. (Though it's also a little unfortunate cause she was kind of a baddie and I don't want to be in a polycule with Splinter /hj)

I really liked this version of Splinter though I thought his design was very cute and I thought the difference between him and Superfly in terms of how they reacted to more or less the same predicament made them really good foils to one another.

I need to get my grubby little hands on the model for Superfly's final form oh my god not enough people are talking about that thing and I don't know whether I adore it or absolutely hate it because it taps into a very specific fear that I have of designs like that but I also love it because of that like he is SO horrific and I need to fully understand everything going on in that design right now.

I really loved the art style, I thought it was a bit strange at first but after I got used to it I love just how much fun the shapes are in this movie!

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the ending; I'm not entirely sure what message I am supposed to take away from it. Upon first viewing it seemed like the movie was communicating that the reason the turtles became liked was because they saved people, and that was the only reason they would ever be accepted- and April supports that fact at the beginning of the movie too. They're teenagers, and I think it is incredibly unfair that they would have to save the entire city just to be treated like kids instead of monsters, and it's even stranger because the only reason the public's opinion of them changes is because they are fighting a "bad" mutant. Which- maybe it's better that they see Superfly as bad instead of every mutant but I still think there's something kind of strange about that ordeal, I mean if any new mutants showed up will humans assume they're "good" like the turtles, or will they think they are "bad" like Superfly? Are the turtles and the others only accepted because they got rid of a "bad" member of their kind? I feel like that has some odd implications, though I guess I'm not supposed to think about it that much. But after thinking on it more, maybe it's moreso supposed to be about how instead of wanting to destroy the world, they tried to work to change and improve it, and that's what got them accepted, being "good" despite the circumstances. I feel like the latter is the more intended message, but I can see how the former could still be interpreted as well, I suppose it depends on how you look at it.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie, I didn't like it more than Rise's film, which is my favorite TMNT movie, but I think it is a close second! I'm excited to see where Mutant Mayhem goes from here!

As expected Stanley would be terrified but ecstatic and I'd be there to help him with any and all of his fears and needs.

On my side like in my fic I wrote about us having kids, even before I got pregnant I'd always insist I wasn't good with kids, too awkward, uncomfortable, and nervous around them. But Stanley would always insist I was the best with them, thinking back to the times he's seen me interacting with them

I have a sudden urge to write.

Toast. Running. Into. Werewolf. Hunters

Like some hunters roll into town, and as the locals have a friendly chat with them, one of them mentions that there's currently been a werewolf epidemic in some neighbouring states. While most have been taken care of, some managed to flee, so they're looking for any stragglers.

At some point P.I.E catches wind of this. Toast, while a little panicked, reassures himself that he'll be fine: he's dark-furred, can sniff them a mile away, and knows the area better! He can just avoid them and be fine!

Cut to Ghost getting woken up late at night by scrapping at the door and whimpering. He opens the door to a very injured Toast; his shoulder is bleeding heavily due to a bullet wound, and he's wheezing bad. It takes a long time to take the silver bullet out, and longer to treat the wound (as well as any lesser injuries he sustained) as best he can, but Ghost manages to bandage his shoulder, and calm Toast down from the adrenaline. (although he did end up with wolf sick on his lap that stunk of garlic and wolfsbane)

When it's morning hits and Toast changes back, he's borderline near dead from exhaustion, so he taps out while Ghost gets some fresh clothes before leaving for P.I.E. He can handle himself without Toast, Right? (Spoiler: barely) By the afternoon he wakes up and manages to throw up again (this time he got to the toilet and hurled in there), and after Ghost comes home and he has some water, he explained what happened. Turns out the hunters were very prepared.

During the night, be had stumbled upon a dead deer that looking back looked very suspicious, but he felt like was starving and, hey, you can't pass up on free food, so he dived in. He managed to eat a good amount, stopping because there was something thick smeared inside that was becoming hard to stomach and he felt not so great.

He stumbled on his way, feeling sicker and more sluggish as the night wore on. When he layed down to rest, he was about to fall asleep when he got shot at. The first bullet caught his ear, and the sluggishness and lingering drowsiness made it hard to react fast enough before the hunters caught up and pinned him down. He waited while they started talking about what to do with him and whenever to shoot him through the brain or heart, and took his chance when he felt the hands going slack.

During his escape, one hunter took aim at his head but hit his shoulder instead, which slowed him down, but was able to sprint all the way back to Ghost's place. He also apologizes for puking on him.

Ghost is just happy he isn't dead. They can't exactly do anything because considering what the hunters have at their disposal, they're definitely from somewhere higher up, and god knows the reproduction (living or dead) if Ghost tries to retaliate, so for now Toast will just have to stay low at full moons until the Hunters leave.

During those full moons, Toast is kinda miserable: he wants to run around and do stuff but he can't because he's injured and he might get spotted again, but Ghost does help with changing old bandages, getting food (and the odd jams) and just being there, so it's not as bad as it can be.

Then the Hunters start asking for anything related to "a large black canine". Oh no.

That's as far as I've gotten so feel free to add any ideas. :D

My idea is you should write this as a proper fic!! This is a Solid first few chapters laid out here and I’d love to see where it goes!

To open discussion for others to give their ideas and inputs, I’ll start ^^

Maybe toast isn’t the only black werewolf in the area, but something about them makes them completely innocent and undeserving of any pain, so this isn’t just about saving him, but the other person too.

Or maybe before really knowing the whole situation, PIE agrees with the hunters to do an intern swap— Yknow to give both groups of trainees more knowledge they otherwise wouldn’t get— and now Ghost and Toast are Down two very helpful interns and aren’t sure if they can trust the new ones.

OR MAYBE TOAST MANAGES TO BITE ONE OF THE HUNTERS!!!

im autistic and i fucking cant stand the texture of the dry and sorta crumbly cookies that do not have completely smooth texture from inside (shit like digestive cookies and other of those plain garbage wheels). like it feels like chewing on rough sawdust that turns into something wit texture identical to vomit. the ones that have smooth texture are tolerable, but i still dont like how it crumbles in my mouth.

Madoka is the Save Point, safe on the picnic blanket. She can heal your health, and invite you to her picnic. She compares everyone to a stuffed toy she has. Homura is a Cat, Sayaka is a Dog, Kyoko is a Wolf, Mami is a Bear, and Nagisa is a Mouse.

After the events of the anime, where Madoka becomes a god and is erased from existence, Homura is sent to the rewritten world. She views this as an absolute failure and shuts herself in her house almost never coming out.

She developed a safe space in her mind based in the hospital room she stayed at called SAFE SPACE, and formed her Headspace, with the door being connected from SAFE SPACE to the PLAYROOM, with your teammates. PLAYROOM is based on Mami’s Apartment, somewhere she developed some of her most treasured memories.

Outside is a giant land, based on the places in the Nutcracker. Land of Sweets, Flowers, Snow, and Amusement. At the centre is Plushie Garden, where you find Madoka. The pathways to the aforementioned areas are blocked by three different obstacles based on Homura’s fears, being lepidopterophobia (a giant moth), Ementophobia (a rancid stench), and claustrophobia (a tiny cart ride).

The enemies are mostly based on a certain hatable space rabbit.

There are 4 new emotions that can be utilized.

Disgust, which raises Hit Rate and Speed, but lowers Attack, Hungry, which raises Attack against food based enemies and regenerates a little bit of Juice every turn but lowers Defense and Speed, Tired which Regenerates a small amount of health every turn but lowers Speed and Attack, and Infatuated which raises Hit Rate and Luck, but the character does not attack the one you inflicted the emotion and lowers Speed.
