Happy World Ocean’s Day!

To celebrate here is the latest crazy sighting from the E/V Nautilus Exploration, a mysterious jellyfish found in remote Pacific depths. Dr. Dhugal Lindsay helped identify this jellyfish as a member of the order Narcomedusae, and an undescribed species within the genus Bathykorus. You love to sea it 🌊

“Dancing at a depth of around 1,600 meters (5,250 feet), this elegant octopus measures an estimated 1.3 m (4.2 ft) long and entertained our watch team for more than five minutes... Little is known about Cirroteuthid octopuses other than that they often swim or drift near the seabed at depths of over 2,000 m (6,600 ft) where light does not penetrate the cold waters.”

What if we are underwater right now? But i don't know it and no one else knows it. We are having a picnic as the land dwellers launch a strange camera recording a livestream with light coming from it. We pause to realize an odd glow getting closer as the land ones say "i think i see something!", staring up at the light trying to comprehend the feeling of the unknown shine we've never felt before. As the landlubbers make comments on how weird and how we look weirder than normal because we are scared out of our mind. They move somewhere else while we look at each other knowing what just happened to us will never get explained in our lifetime... But maybe that's for the better...
that's how it feels to be an animal seen on the ev nautilus

I’ve been really into the EV Nautilus Live stream lately. It was super cool to watch them work, and to hear them talk about their fields. Also to hear them debating highly philosophical ideas such as cake vs pie.
Did a little sketch and wanted to share my love.

this will forever be one of my favorite videos on the planet (watch til end). scientists are human beings full of love and joy and i love how the ev nautilus streams show that! and i just love when a good joke makes a whole room of people dissolve into laughter. 😭
