It should be thoughtful and empathetic, not preachy and reactionary. And it defini should t be as abjectly fatalistic as it is; even back in the 60s, I don’t think the fatalism was this pervasive.

I saw someone a while back point out that a lot of “leftism” is just anticapitalist libertarianism. It certainly seems to me like a lot of young leftists think justice can be achieved by ripping up the social contract and robbing those they deem to be the bad guys blind.

‘Boundaries’ were harder to settle on than they'd expected them to be. Eddie didn’t seem to want to put anything on the “strictly no” list. Even when Steve suggested sex should be on there Eddie just wiggled his brows and claimed a week in a cabin with him might change things.

Lately it seems like I see a whole lot of people noting (correctly!) that so many people who consider themselves leftists are actually regurgitating conservative Christian/purity culture morality...but then they’ll mostly be talking about the ways that manifests with regard to gender and sexuality and fandom content and not really touch what I consider the deeper, broader, even more alarming ways that that’s true, like:

-Inevitability or moral duty to alienate and even mistreat certain people, certain kinds of people, or certain numbers of people

-Anti-intellectualism and devaluation of expertise

-Devaluation of mental autonomy. If you study the ~scriptures~ correctly (if you educate yourself, if you really take the time to think about it, if you read the right things) you’ll agree with us

-Duty to disown and renounce your former self, and to internalize certain pronouncements about yourself whether or not they’re true

-The viewpoints of people who don’t agree with us are not just wrong, they’re fake. Our way is the only way of interpreting this information.

The way the Brainrot Left brays and hoots and hollers about 10/7 in my mind is more evidence they don't see Palestinians as complex human actors in a conflict, just as trauma tokens or vague forces of nature. If you grab these Lefties by the ear and ask them to acknowledge 10/7 as an atrocity, as a traumatizing episode in the millennia story of antisemitism, they'll do one of a few things:

Deny it even happened. Which is absurd on the face of it. These people were cheering when they thought Hamas stood even a chance of winning. But after the public backlash and the impending retaliation, suddenly these brave freedom fighters couldn't be bothered to show up for battle? So why praise "resistance" against Israeli colonization while denying that Israel is retaliating against something? 10/7 took years to plan and it took a lot of smart motivated people to pull it off. Hamas are not stupid and they're not disorganized. You're doing a disservice to the alleged antifascist anticolonial group you love so much.

Claim it was a psyop. Again, kind of does a disservice to your brave freedom blorbos if you think Israel planned it all, and worse, that they duped Palestinians into playing right into their plan. So you basically think Hamas are completely incapable of doing anything, and you think "this is what the revolution looks like!" is the occupying Apartheid regime staging the revolution for cameras? This is just "how does Hamas have color printers lol fake news!" again.

Say "this started before 10/7 zioscum!" And this is more subtle, but these "well what did you expect to happen" and "when nonviolent resistance fails, the People only have one choice!" takes are equally condescending and dismissive. Hamas are not automata, they are not brainless organisms reacting to stimuli. When Israel acts, they decide to react. When Israel does not act, they are actively planning ways in which they themselves can act because they have declared an unending war on the state of Israel. No matter how long a truce lasts they will always want to break it. Because that's the philosophy they ascribe to. That's the politique they have chosen. Acting like anything in the Israel-Palestine conflict is a natural inevitable instance of the law of cause and effect is to strip the agency of the actors involved.

Hamas, and the Palestinians they "lead," are not pawns, they're not objects. They're people. Civilians participated in 10/7, some civilians volunteered to hold hostages for Hamas. Civilians choose to abide by Israel's warnings and flee to Rafah. Hamas tries to stop them and steals their aid. Hamas planned and executed 10/7 despite the two sides being at peace and there being no noticeable worsening societal stress in Gaza. Hamas and their allies launched unprecedented rocket barrages at Israel with the intent of maximizing civilian damage and terror. You notice all those verbs? That have human active agents as their subjects?

Palestinians and Israelis are doing things to each other. The passive voice language serves to obscure this fact. And these people have motivated reasons for doing those things. Those reasons can be complex and inscrutable and go back decades, centuries. They can even feel inevitable or natural. But everything going on is a choice or a decision made by someone, and executed by people who willingly follow that someone. We've seen Palestinians and Israelis stand against those powerful people. Israelis are protesting and going to jail. Palestinians are demonstrating against the fascist regime that's had its boot on their necks for almost 20 years.

I don't like the passive voice trick being used when Israel does something either, but the battalions of the Tumblrina Red Army have a bad habit of doing something even more annoying. They don't report on things as "rockets were launched into Israel," they deny anything is done to Israel. If they can't do that, they claim it's propaganda, they invent or hyperfocus on what they consider an equivalent Israeli action against Hamas and say "they started it!" Anything Hamas does or has done or could do to Israel, in their minds, is a natural inevitable perfectly just and rational and good reaction to something Israel did. What did you expect to happen? Um this doesn't matter because Israel did something worse see!

Hamas' actions are meaningless, without motivation, without underlying philosophy, without any kind of actionable goal. Why should they care about Hamas' charter? Why should they care about the origin of "from the river to the sea"? The why of Hamas or any Palestinian resistance doing anything doesn't matter to them. They only care that these groups are fighting so they can write their own values and ideals onto them. That's why in their minds the Gaza War is the biggest thing going on in the world, and the biggest thing in decades. That's why they see this as such an existential battle against capitalism and American hegemony, and why they think they even have a stake in land disputes in the Middle East at all.

I hope you can see how this is utterly dehumanizing language wrapped up in the pretext of support. Hamas fighters are not lines of computer code who act without thought. Aggression against Israel is not some divine natural punishment from the social justice gods. We'll never get anywhere so long as people refuse to see Palestinian militant groups as people with agency. Is it a wonder the Tumblr Left seems incapable of condemning them when they do something genuinely immoral? They think Hamas are amoral, because they truly don't see them as humans.

This is incredibly funny. What mission does the US military perform that would attract new recruits? There's no Global War On Terror anymore, and even if there was, it's not 2002. You don't have a ton of teens who were brought up watching Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers and a fresh 9/11 to make a GWOT seem not just like a good idea, but a matter of personal duty. The lefty kids don't wanna be imperialist triggermen and the right-wingers are scared they'll be chemically castrated with fake vaccines by the Globalists. Nobody gives a shit about Saudi interests or protecting commerce from Houthi rebels or whatever the fuck is going on with trade routes in Southeast Asia. That's something only boomers care about.

Being a lefty queer dude into discussing masculinity and men's issues at this point is so bizarre. It's like everywhere you go there's these street preachers telling you about this great group up the hill that has the answers to all your problems. And you head up there, all curious to see what's there, and there's...well, it kinda looks like it's supposed to be a big cool cathedral, but the scale is kinda weird like it's trying to hide the fact that its way shorter than it wants to act like it is. and the stained glass windows are really just painted with the washable stuff they use on retail windows. But hey, this is the place, so you walk inside.

And inside there are like, thousands of dudes, and they all whip their heads around when you enter excitedly, but then their faces fall and they turn back around to stare at a stage with nobody standing at it. The floors are beige carpet. It smells vaguely of paint and dust. There is a water cooler in the corner. It is empty. There is a pulpit on the stage, sturdy and old and covered in yellowing wood veneer.

You nudge one of the other guys and ask "uh, hey...what's going on?" and he shushes you and whispers that we have to be quiet or else we're going to miss the message. But after twenty minutes or so, it becomes apparent that nobody's actually...saying anything. Nobody is going to go up there and speak. You nudge the guy again, and ask how long he's been there. He says twenty years. You ask whether anyone has ever said anything. He says yes, but it turns out it was just another one of the parishioners faking it and he got kicked out. You ask what we're actually here to do. And he breaks into a big old grin and says that if you're interested in helping, that would be amazing actually! They can never get enough volunteers.

And what he does is push a briefcase full of pamphlets into your hands and urge you towards the door. You ask what you're meant to be doing. He tells you to go out there and tell everyone that if they go to the cathedral up the hill, they'll find the answer to all their problems.

OHHHOHOH ANON I LOVE U, I’ll start off with teen pickles

He’s ambidextrous! I feel his mothers a religious type so she’d try to ‘beat the devil out of him’ (whacking his hand with something when writing left handed, which would have been common practice for his generation. It happened to my dad as a kid!) and Pickles quickly finds he can write with both hands, So he switches a lot. Lefty when he can, Righty so he doesn’t end up with ruler marks on his hand.

He’s scared of the dark when he’s a kid, before the garage incident because Seth use to scare him in the middle of the night. He gets a night light and becomes a light sleeper to keep an ear out for him.

As a teenager he’s really into drawing, he draws Wizards and Dragons and listens to Led Zeppelin on his walkman.

He starts smoking at like 13, Cigarettes and Weed along with his drinking. This is where that Punk ass look comes from, i think he’d go to a lot of basement punk shows and mosh and get fucked up.

Snakes N Barrels

Since he’s 16 when he leaves home, i think it takes about a year or so for him to find Snakes N Barrels. He uses a fake ID to get his audition. They don’t find out he lied about his age until he’s already 21 and they’re like…you’ve been 21 for 5 years? what?

He’s on a lot of drugs dude (canonically) but he’s really deep in the trenches (H*roin was big in the 80s/90s) which we know drugs had a lot to do with the downfall it SnB but i think Tony’s the one who gets him hooked on the harder things.

I think he cross dressed A LOT in SnB. Mini skirts, brallets, thongs, the whole nine.

He doesn’t talk about it but he doesn’t care who he sleeps with, at all. Men, Women, as long as they’re over 20. He had to do a lot of shady shit to get to where he is, so he’s got somewhat of a head on his shoulders.

When it all ends he buys a shitty van and drives his way cross country to Florida, having his fun along the way (see this post i made if u want more context on what i mean) before he meets Nathan and everyone else.
