Day 8 of #fiberuarychallenge ‘Work In Progress’ I think I might have posted this last time I did the Fiberuary Challenge. I have been working on this hat from @pompommag for a number of years now. There has been no progress! Mostly I think because I sat on one of the needles and broke it and I don’t really want to pay for delivery for just needles, and with my self-imposed yarn buying ban there has been no opportunity to add more needles to my basket. Day 2: When I’m not knitting I’m mostly dyeing, but other than that I love to travel, take care of my sheep and my pups, and I love Mini Coopers. Last year my trip to Stitches SoCal was full of expenses, but the best part was going through the National Parks. It was a blast. I love visiting these places and hiking around. The natural beauty of it all is wonderful. This first picture of my sheep is from them waiting impatiently for their breakfast while I take their picture. I also enjoy spinning their wool, however I don’t get as much time to do it as I’d like. I wanted to get a picture of the bees, but it’s still a bit cold, so I’ll share them later this spring. This is the first time I’m really trying to commit to one of these challenges, and I’m sure I’ll need all the encouragement that I could get to stick with it. For those that did follow my adventure to and from Stitches SoCal, you know my old motor home died just before getting to Denver. Well it has sat in storage since then and my dad and I are heading that way tomorrow to clean it the rest of the way out and have it donated. So it looks like I’ll have lots of knitting time to make some headway on various projects. Anyway, there are a lot more interests that I could list. I love to read, including audiobooks while I work, and I enjoy shows and movies on occasion too. I hope this lets you all get to know me a bit better. Oh, and I almost forgot... Go Cards!! Fiberuary Challenge Day One: Hello...it's me - My name is Janet, and I am pretty sure that I have officially crossed into the realm of yarnoholic. 😜 I've been knitting avidly for about ten years now, encouraged to return to this craft by my late husband, and so very glad about that, because knitting and the amazing knitting community has kept me company since his death more than eight years ago, especially during this pandemic, as I am "elderly" 😱 and have needed to spend the vast majority of hours the past twenty-two months alone 24/7. (Thank heavens for my children, telephone calls, a good internet connection, and warm weather meetups with knitting friends in the park!) I am mom to five fantastic souls, and now grandma of five, with a sixth little one expected to make an appearance in late spring. ❣️ My family is my greatest joy, but yarn and knitting are pretty essential to my well-being these days. Yarn in all of its glory, and all of the beautiful projects one can create by wrapping said yarn around two needles, inspire and excite me every single day...A big Thank You to the sheep for sharing their lovely fiber with us, and a huge hats-off to all of the ancestors involved in the process of figuring out all of the steps that led from shearing the sheep to the production of yarn! I'm a single mom in Tacoma, WA leading a full life parenting a queer tween boy and a queer teen girl, and semi-step parenting two more (non-queer) kids with my honey. I am an editor, a creative writing instructor, and an increasingly vocal supporter of Women Writers of Color and People of Color in publishing. Raised in a socialist cooperative in The Bronx, I'm not only to the left of most people, but also have first-hand experience of an intentional community that has functioned successfully for decades (my neighborhood celebrates its 92nd birthday this year). Due to work, parenting and other obligations, I don't do the things I love as much as I'd like to, which includes knitting, reading, writing, yoga, hiking, snowshoeing, paddle boarding, and traveling. But I've given up beating myself up for that in favor of savoring what I can do.
