I haven't posted what I have been up to lately from a fiber arts perspective, so here's a little e-spinning I've been doing! The orange tweed 2-plyjis a merino, bamboo, and silk blend I had gotten for last year's Fiberuary on Mastodon (color and texture weeks), but I had a massive amount left (even now I think I may have over 4oz) — it's from Paradise Fibers in the Folklore colorway, I think. The green singles are some lovely polwarth I got from @littlebirdinagarden's etsy, in the Forest colorway (though this is displaying the lightest as opposed to the deepest greens in the colorway)

Day 8 of #fiberuarychallenge ‘Work In Progress’ I think I might have posted this last time I did the Fiberuary Challenge. I have been working on this hat from @pompommag for a number of years now. There has been no progress! Mostly I think because I sat on one of the needles and broke it and I don’t really want to pay for delivery for just needles, and with my self-imposed yarn buying ban there has been no opportunity to add more needles to my basket. Fiberuary Days 1-6: it’s lovely, it’s lacey, it’s 2/3 done, it’s…. Too small. I calculated my gauge wrong.

The only way to fix it is to undo the entire sleeve, so I can add another pattern repeat.

But if I do that, I won't have enough yarn. But that's OK, I have this lovely 20g hank that will make a great accent.

But to make it an accent rather than a "I'm a lousy knitter who can't calculate gauge", I have to incorporate it into the border, which begins in row 1.

Here we are day 1 of the annual #fiberuarychallenge and the prompt is “intro selfie” 🙋🏾‍♀️my name is Gaye Glasspie better known as GG. You know I love orange, so let me tell something you may not know. I grew up in one of the most notorious projects in the town. My mom was on welfare, I realized I needed glasses because I watched a friend die and couldn’t see it was him until I got really close ☹️I was surrounded by drug users and all sorts of things one should avoid; however that was my backdrop. If you reading this and feeling like “OMG GG!”

Stop it now because in the midst of all of that “on purpose” was born. In the midst of all of that my smile became my signature. Growing up in that environment taught me what I didn’t want. Growing up in that environment taught me to keep going no matter. Growing up in that environment taught me that I owed it to myself to see what was on the other side. Taught me that although I didn’t see many that looked like me, I want to knit, I want to blog and I’m going to do it. Spin spin. The purple I spun on the drop spindle, the white on my spinning wheel (after I tightened up a bolt on it). The purple I dyed as well using an old packet of dylon that was Burlesque Red, which is not remotely a red at all. It’s still pretty though. I really like using the drop spindle as it’s small and I can do a little bit at a time when I have the spoons. One of these days I’m going to treat myself to a lovely hand turned drop spindle I’ve been drooling over on Etsy. Not today but one day soon. Maybe.
