been thinking about how different a self aware!volo would be with a player who has already played PLA before who isn't gonna fall for the ginkgo merchant's little trick. at first, volo first confronts you in jubilife, that big ol grin plastered on his face. at first, he greets rei/akari. but he can't help but notice the OTHER person thats next to them, who's just looking at him with narrowed eyes and a disapproving expression. you. obviously, volo just ignores that and shrugs it off as something that he saw because he ate something bad. but his vision of you is still very present in his mind. what did he do to get such a cold shoulder from you? the skyfaller seemed to be totally fine with him, but you looked at him like he just insulted your entire bloodline. of course, the same cycle of "greet, sneer, ignore, repeat" continues for some time, volo's curiousity and desperation to what he (probably) did only reaching more and more heights as he tries to make it up to you on each attempt. of course, the whole "banishment from jubilife" thing happens. with volo being the first to try and give you closure after being tossed out like that, he sees it as an attempt to make up for what he thinks he did. unfortunately for him, you decided to stop the cycle and just tell him out front about his little clever plan. the plates. giratina. mountain coronet. you already knew about it from first glance. and every single gear in volo's mind comes to a complete stop. at first, he is dismissive to your claims. him? betray YOU? not in a million years! but deep down in his mind, he is screaming. how did you know? how COULD you have known? did he make it seem to obvious? are you a psychic? he is frustrated. angered. yet at the same time, he is scared. scared of you. obviously, no ordinary skyfaller would've known about his little deal with giratina. you're something else. after the whole ordeal, volo walks away. with nowhere else to go, you decide to do the same thing you did on your previous playthrough and fight volo once your team is strong enough to counter his AND to ward off giratina. but once you reach mountain coronet's top, you find him in that (rather ridiculous) arceus wardrobe, bowing down once he saw you arrived. he referred to you as an all-knowing deity, powerful enough to even see through HIM in order to figure out his scheme. and that to think that he was capable enough of tricking YOU.. what a fool he was. he was at your mercy. while the option of "killing" him popped in your mind, you simply shrugged it off. he wasn't worth the effort. he thanks you for showing him mercy and forgiveness, but not without you telling him that if he ever pulls that stuff again, you won't be so forigivng next time. he bows yet again, and heads off to wherever the wind will take him.
Volo, surprised: “How did you know about my plan?”
You, not on your first playthrough: “Wouldn’t you like to know, weather boy.”
Honestly its something that would bother the hell out of him. How you seem just… suspicious of him, or annoyed. What did he do!?
Then when you reveal his plan, it haunts him for days. How. How the hell did you know.
Judging by how you reacted to him since you met, you’ve known this whole time.
So it occurs to him.
Maybe, just maybe, you were the real thing. The real god. He’s seen how you interact with the world, watching from a distance.
Hopefully, you’d accept his apology. Accept he wanted to worship you now.
No wonder Arceus ignored him. If you were the true god, then he didn’t want the attention of a false idol anyway

So I got the true ending of Tunic over the weekend and I gotta say, this small indie title about a cutesy little fox holds up as one of the best games I've ever played. Most people think "isometric Zelda" when they first see the game in action, and then they think Dark Souls when they see the combat, but those obvious influences belie a much deeper experience. Where Tunic truly shines is in exploration and puzzle solving -- I haven't had my brain bended or my mind blown this way since playing Portal in my early teens, and I haven't had this much fun combing every corner of a game world for secrets since the first time I played Yume Nikki. There's even a touch of Super Metroid in the way that, as the game goes on, you realize there are abilities you've had from the start that you could use to bust it wide open on a repeat playthrough. And all of this is conveyed to you through the gentlest of hints and the subtlest, smartest level design I've seen in ages. There's barely any readable in-game text!!
Which brings me to Tunic's most ingenious feature of all: the instruction manual. As you journey through its world, you'll find torn pages scattered about, written primarily in a made up language (that can be deciphered if you're dedicated), with the occasional word or line in English, just enough to give you context clues for what the pictures on the page are trying to convey. Some pages will teach you controls, some are maps, some touch upon the larger story the game is telling, and almost all of them give hints to puzzles you won't even realize are supposed to be hints until you're nearing the end of your playthrough. If you enjoy the sense of mystery and the delight of discovery that comes from slowly piecing things together yourself, without any "hand holding" or whatever, you will love this game.
That's not to say it's lacking flaws, of course. Most of the biggest complaints I see in user reviews online are about the combat and its difficulty. Yes, Tunic is challenging, and there are some severe difficulty spikes later on that can get kinda frustrating. Personally I found pushing through it all to be pretty rewarding, and I didn't find the game to be that hard as long as I made full use of my inventory and all the tools in my kit. The only part I'd call utter bullshit is the second phase of the final boss on the "bad ending" path, cause unless you're rocking New Game Plus stats or cheesing the heck out of it, there are a couple moves it does that feel borderline impossible to dodge or react to.
Thankfully, Tunic has a no-fail mode you can turn on and off at will, so if a battle ever gets too annoying or the Soulslike combat just isn't for you, you can flip that on and focus on the exploring and puzzle solving! I still have a handful of treasures and secrets left to find, but in a year stacked with big releases, I can already say that Tunic just might be my GotY. (Not counting the upcoming Chrono Cross remaster, of course. Nothing's ever gonna top that in my heart.) At the time of writing, Tunic is free on Gamepass and 30 bucks on Steam, but either way I'd call it a priceless experience. Definitely not a game for everyone, but if any of this sounds remotely up your alley, I can't recommend it enough!!

Song 1: Anywhere by Passenger
youtube
youtube
My thoughts: Nostalgia trip to my Grade 10 days where I was neck deep into dissociating for a better time....... not that i do it still these days (if in smaller doses) but OOP-- GOD this song is so old YET so beautiful still *pleading face*,,, I've always associated this with just. about being. about finding life with someone/s special, and living well. Passenger really just has that special place in my heart where it can tug on a range of strings from bittersweet to something hopeful and vibrant ♡
10/10, thank u for reminding me of this gem and!!! added it to the M.C.R. AU gang playlist 💖💖💖

Song 2: Windmills by Toad the wet sprocket

youtube
My thoughts: OH THE VIBES FROM THE START. I LOVE 'EM! and oop I think its being evident im a slut for slow vocals but let's not talk abt that--
The SONG THO, ugh. you say this is bittersweet? i'm actually fully vibing-- maybe it's a lil sad, but it's not... in that level of range for me,,,, maybe being influenced majorly by the instrumental bkg, but UGH. The feeling is more. something suited to a light hurt/comfort fic or a small stone quickly skipping through the water, if that makes sense?
UGH 9/10 tho I am in LOVE with the vibes and the lyrics too ig but makes me. quite seepy 😔👉🏻👈🏻
---
Song 3: Army by Boy
youtube
My Thoughts: I COME IN AND IMMEDIATELY!!! THE GUITAR AND THE VOCALS HAS ME GOING😏😳!!!!! it's definitely a friendship/squad song and I'M VIBING aaaaaaaaaaaa I LOVE IT???? a lot,,,,
ugh my heart is really out here just suddenly feeling sad i can't pop by my besties' homes so i can get some quality snuggle hours >:0
anyways THE LYRICS ARE LIT!!! can relate majorly to
They're taller than giants // They outshine all the stars // They are the love above love // They're my army of fortune // They win every war // They are the love above love
AND SERIOUSLY!!! 11/10 & once again added to M.C.R. AU gang playlist!
