well, to Narancia it might sound like the global same request but.... the gravity of it was different.

Before, Fugo had asked it with the idea that whatever Narancia would ask for would be, well...... a parting gift.

But it wasn't like that this time.

Fugo still wasn't any sure of the future, but..... the other planned to still be here in 2 weeks. Even if it were just a month more, he could only feel gratitude for having the other around for just a little more.

"Then I guess we'll have to celebrate it to gain all those years we missed it, huh?"

It's strange how all of this felt so comforting. they barely knew each other, it's only been 5 days.... but it felt like Fugo had been waiting for this, for him all this time. He held him close, possessively, not wanting to part.

Onslaught | X | CH5 Body drop react

(Un)fortunately Mari’s morals are… somewhat lacking at times. Her sense of empathy is also not the greatest around here, and her compassion is rather limited, so it’s not surprising that she isn’t particularly sad with the first fake out -- -more than anything she feels sorry for Petrel and to a lesser extent, Dragom. Haruki doesn’t mean anything to her but he does to them, that much she is willing to ---

Oh.

He’s alive.

Well, moving on. She keeps her hands in her pockets as the group makes their way to the next location; keeping an eye out, counting heads, albeit the ghosts being around makes it harder than it has to be, and even now she’s not fully used to having only one eye to see with. That, and the creeping dread running along her neck, down her back, her brain whispering against her will, over and over, the same thoughts, circling around in her mind.

When they spot Lucy, she doesn’t approach right away -- instead, she waits a few seconds, looking for signs of breathing and as soon as she sees them, followed by Sasha’s annoying voice, she moves on. Whatever feelings she might have about Lucy’s injuries are set aside for the time being.

She walks on, one step at a time. Feeling icy claws dig at her heart, digging in deeper with each step, the sound of breathing from everyone else reminding her they’re still there. The game isn’t over yet.

The game isn’t over yet, she repeats to herself, trudging along. It’s not over yet, but the dread grows heavier and heavier over her shoulders, crashing down on her as they finally reach Miyuki’s lifeless body.

It’s strange, she thinks, her fists curled into fissts inside her pockets. Death should get rid of their fears this time, but the cold in heart does not depart, the ice running through her vein does not suddenly come to a stop.

Miyuki is dead. Mari’s fists tighten.

The first time they had talked, she had been rude to her as she was to everyone else, an back then she had taken it in good humor and talked to her anyway; Mari had found her rather difficult to understand back then, but somehow she had found herself trying and somehow managing to understand her anyway; it wasn’t hard if you actually paid attention to what Miyuki said; there was always something of value in her words, even if most of the time, Mari didn’t really agree with her.

It’s hard to agree with good people when you’re not one of them, after all.

But there was still an understanding. Friendship, trust, all of that. Concern, worry. And fear. Fear that when this all ended, Miyuki would walk away -- with everyone, Mari left behind. But now, Miyuki doesn’t get to walk out of here. She doesn’t get to see the end of the line -- not with the living, at least. She doesn’t get to leave, wherever she might’ve gone to, she can’t anymore, just like every other dead person behind her.

She doesn’t understand why, of all people, it’s Miyuki here. Frankly, though, understanding isn’t something she is willing to give to everyone. It’s for friends. Or people like Miyuki. Or friends like Miyuki.

Her teeth grind, she shuts her eye tightly for a moment and opens it again, looking the same as usual, calm, she unclenches her hands and takes them out of her pockets, walking towards her friend's corpse, there is work to be done and she'll do it, just like always.
