"why is it that gay movies/shows always have to be about coming out, why cant they just be gay" listen man as a bonafide dyke myself i get it, but for some of us who grew up in an enviroment that oppressed our sexuality this type of content is very important and cathartic

its so frustrating to me when i see people complain about a media being about kids or teens or even adults coming out. like i get it, i really do, i promise. but for me, its very cathartic. i never got to come out as a teen. i came out when i was like 18.

because thats when i was finally out of school and out of an enviroment where i was literally physically, mentally and emotionally abused by other kids who were already bullying and abusing me because they already suspected me to be gay

watching people come out and have a cute romance thats new territory for them in shows/media/books/etc. is incredibly cathartic for me. it makes me happy. i love seeing it. it makes me feel better about myself. i get that not everything is about me or my own trauma, but that doesnt mean its not a little harmful to constantly see people moan and cry about something i find such comfort and consolation in. if you didnt like something because it was a coming out story and you just wanted them to be gay and it not be a big deal, thats ok

but recognize that there are gay people out there to whom this kind of story is incredibly important. just say you didnt like it for (x) and move on. dont bash that it exists the way it exists. i get the frustration, but i feel frustrated in turn about these complaints.
