The way James mirrors Gerry is a really interesting dynamic. Not only are they both “outsiders” and not originally from Derry but they both will speak sense but get shushed and dragged into everyone else’s nonsense. The way they are both lovingly (and sometimes not so lovingly) teased by their family and friends. How James’ has a sweet relationship with (practically) his sister-in-law, Orla which has similarities to Gerry and Sarah - it’s just a lot less sarcastic. You can just imagine Gerry and James sitting at the dinner table in years to come and just rolling their eyes at each other across the table at the sheer chaos happening around them.
