Establishing Alibis || Glynn
Gil did his best to separate his assignments from one another. Some agents liked to reuse identities and covers, but Gil found it to be most useful if he reinvented himself in each place. The broody, sullen club bouncer in New York City, for instance, was worlds different from the mild-mannered librarian in Johannesburg, who was absolutely different from the cynical bartender in St. Petersburg.
And yet despite his attempt to cut off his last mission from his current station in Swynlake, it came to follow him in the form of one smirking, scruffy-faced informant.
Leo had given him a personal heads up before HQ did, in the form of a text that Gil stared at for a long time before deciding to reply with a simple “Thanks for letting me know.” Leo did not continue the conversation after. A small part of Gil was disappointed.
But no matter. There was no time on dwelling on that, not when Gil had a new ward to handle and a new alibi to establish.
Flynn was an old friend from New York, the story went. And he moved here and Gil was getting tea with him in a public place to cement the fact that they knew each other, back in the day.
“Hello,” said Gil, with as much of a smile as he could muster, when he approached Hatter’s. “Long time no see, huh?”
