It’s hedgehog day again! And that means I’m back with more fun hedgehog facts!
I know it’s totally unintentional on Sega or the writers part but it is funny how they keep giving Sonic traits that are very accurate to the real animal. For example,
Hedgehogs are very mobile creatures. It is not uncommon for a hedgehog to move nests often. They may only stay in one home for weeks at a time before moving on. They can also travel up to ten miles an evening in search of food. Hedgehogs are very well travelled. Which is why in Europe some people make “hedgehog highways” by cutting holes in fences so hedgehogs can safely travel between people’s yards.
Another fun fact that is accurate to Sonic is that hedgehogs are very opportunistic in where they make their homes. Often taking shelter in other animal’s abandoned borrows or nests. They can dig their own borrows too but sometimes they settle for just a nice pile of leaves. So Sonic constantly crashing at Tails’ many workshops is a very hedgehog thing to do.

Everything else checks. Now let's torture a certain hedgehog with that last fact.

Realised that there’ll be hedgehog fans out there who don’t get wild hedgehogs roaming their gardens and might appreciate some fun little facts about these little guys that you might not know if they’re not common visitors to you:
-They shuffle when they walk, it’s a cute little snuffling shuffle and they are adorable.
-They are FAST. Oh boy! Not speed of sound fast but sonic the hedgehog being fast is accurate! They have longer legs than you think because their saggy spine covered flesh covers over some of the legs so they look shorter than they are
-They curl up face down so all you see is a ball of spikes. It’s adorable
-If they drink water and get wet they try to dry themselves off. How? By literally dragging their chin across the floor. It’s wild the first time you see it
-They can climb! Somehow. They’re not getting up a garden wall but they will somehow find themselves on top of rockeries. My dad built a hedgehog ramp to stop the hedgehogs trying to clamber up the steep steps to access the whole garden.
-They come out fairy early once night sets in so it’s very feasible for young children to stay up and watch them
-After a few run ins they get habituated to the house lights turning on to see them and they go about their business because they know you won’t hurt them. They’re very easy to watch!
-They’re the easiest British wildlife to keep hospitalised because they’re fairly chill all things considered. Other animals get very stressed but you can do a lot of nursing with hedgehogs
-They do make noises that range from baby squeaks for milk to a sound that sounds like a human baby crying. The police are called regularly to the latter sound

You don’t understand whenever Sonic shakes himself I need a maraca sound effect to play. When hedgehogs shake they sound like little maracas.

When the writing dictates that it only makes sense for Sonic to start crying, but he's contractually obligated not to, so you have to shoot the scene of him bringing his hands to his eyes from approximately 50+ feet away

this is what was waiting for me the next day when i came back from work:
SHE MADE HER OWN FUCKED UP HEDGEHOG CAKE. and she was so sad she had to improvise with the nuts for decorating like "damn clown, i wish i had some of those sugar teeth decorations so itd look more messed up :(" like no, mom, its. its perfect
