Super Anne: The Rebirth of Anne Boonchuy
Anne's Super Form was a surprise to me and many of the fanbase when True Colors dropped. While many had predicted that the girls had some sort of powers from the first episode, with Season 2 playing into it more, it wasn't known exactly what those powers were for. But when we got to see Anne's eyes glow blue, and her shouting at Andrias to bring her best friend back, it was one of the coolest, most well-animated, and most anime scenes in all of Amphibia.
Fans were clamoring about this moment, with fanart galore and discussions abound about what made this moment so awesome. Even with all that we got in season 3, it still holds a title in Amphibia's greatest moments. However, I don't see much discussion about the form in Season 3, more specifically how well it's been used narratively. But to me, Anne's Super Form was one of the best-handled elements in season 3, and I would like to give it some attention.
Tumblr media
Source
As I've mentioned previously, Anne's first transformation is one of the best scenes in Amphibia, and clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Shonen Anime. More specifically harking back to the Super Saiyan transformations of both Goku and Gohan.
Tumblr media
Just like those transformations, this scene is the character at their narrative peak and emotional breaking point. For Anne, it's a representation of how much she has grown to this point that she has become so confident, focused, and self-assured on what she wants and who she cares about that she can easily trounce Andrias and his forces. This moment is Anne as her best self and is the point Anne has been fully-reborn from an irresponsible, bratty, insecure teenager, to the brave, responsible, and kind-hearted girl she was always meant to be.
Tumblr media
In Season 3 Anne's arc is all about her struggle of being her best self, having to learn to handle the burdens of responsibilities and learning to lean on others in a healthy way compared to her previous toxic friendships. Anne's Super form is a representation of Anne's arc in season 3 and especially 3A. Just as how Anne struggles to hold her ultimate form, she struggles to be her best self with new obstacles coming her way. So as Anne becomes more self-assured and self-confident, she's able to maintain and control her powers more often, this is why Anne is able to pull out her super-form in bigger episodes like "Anne-Sterminator" and "Escape to Amphibia" because they are capstones in major arcs for Anne's character developing significantly in each.
The DBZ inspiration is still present for Super Anne, but now it acts as more of Kaio-ken, than a full-on Super Saiyan transformation. Anne is only able to hold this form for a short amount of time before her body can't handle it, and personally l like this approach a whole lot better than a flashy power-up. It makes it so the powers have limits and sacrifice to them and stops Anne from just using them whenever there was a problem in her way. The writers always make sure to use the form sparingly so it never overstates its welcome and when it does appear it's always to this awesome major event, making Anne’s gradual mastery of the powers feel so natural once we reach All In.
Tumblr media
The idea of Rebirth isn’t just represented by Anne but to all of the Calamity Trio. With Sasha being reborn from a toxic, manipulative, and overly bossy person, to a steadfast, compassionate leader fighting for justice. And Marcy turns into Darcy, becoming our new big bad for the season. Each of the girls go through a radical change and are reborn as new people throughout the season.
Tumblr media
I think the Amphibia crew really struck gold here, not only were they able to have this amazing transformation in True Colors, but they made the idea of Super Anne the entire narrative throughline of season 3. It's the representation of Anne's struggle of maintaining her best self and never overstays its welcome. This transformation rock!  From the presentation and narrative use, you know it's been a damn good episode when Anne goes blue!

🦉 Who is your antagonist?
The antagonist is the Mouse King himself, on the road of revengeance against the Kingdom that humiliated and sterminated his kind, and specifically the one boy who killed his mother.

pt. ii of that au i had: Luz in Amphibia!
-because Luz finds the music box and not the door in this au, she ends up going to camp originally.
-after camp and back at school, Luz became friends with two other kids at camp, who are supposed to represent the other two in the calamity trio.
-Axel acts as the leader of the group, and is a total rebel. shes basically the leader of the group. she clicked with Luz because they like how reckless and ambitious she can be (ie. her school project). Axel takes place as the representative of Strength.
-Echo is a big fan of cryptids and stuff, and they regularly talk to Jacob about the history of the town regarding Philip and his brother. they clicked with Luz because theyre both loveable nerds, and they take place of the representative of Mind.
-obviously this leaves Luz as Heart. however, going in true Luz fashion, Luz is the one who gets the gang stranded in amphibia. rather than having to move away, she talks with her friends and convinces them it'll be "just like a DND campaign," with Echo being sold in the idea and Axel going "in case you do something stupid"
-season 1 of the show plays out as normal, ending with Luz calling out Axel for being a bit too controlling, which is the start of Axel's character arc.
-season two is a but different, with the calamity stones being given respective weapons: the Sword of Heart, the Hammer of Strength, and the Bow of Mind. i had this idea because of the Sword of Excalibur and thought it would be interesting to see.
-Grime attempt to talk Axel into attempting to take over Newtopia, with Axel being against the idea. Grime tries anyways, leading him to discover Andrias's true plan.
-instead of Andrias exposing Echo like he does Marcy, he manipulates the group to believe everything is Luz's fault. while Luz has a breakdown because she's convinced of this, Axel snaps and defends her. the episode then carries out as it does originally
-season three kicks off with Luz returning home with the Plantars, and her mom is reasonably worried sick. the first half of the season follows a similar plot, with Luz keeping the "i got stranded there on purpose and im being attacked by a literal monarch" parts of the story a secret from Camilla. the confrontation scene Anne-Sterminator mirrors the ending of Yesterday's Lie.
-Mr. X teams up with Jacob to learn more about the Plantars.
-Luz meets a familiar "Mr. Pines" working as a technician at a kid's museum, who claims to have insight on how to build a portal to get Luz and the Plantars back to Amphibia.
-Dr Janne is still around, of course, and Echo does get possessed by the core.
-in "Froggy Little Christmas," the float Luz and the Plantars make is more based on Camilla's career as a vet.
-In "Commander Luz," Axel is revealed to be-
-not a major detail, but rather than being entertained with puzzles in the mindscape, Echo is given several video games.
-As for their calamity forms, in place of the tennis racket, Luz has a replica of Azura's staff, Axel has a baseball bat similar to the one Beta Luz had, and Echo has a seismograph.
-the god anne meets in the original version of the series takes the form of a bat, like Luz's phone case.

I want to believe that Fixing Frobo and Anne-sterminator are a day after one another.
So not only did Mr. B get his controller destroyed, gamer session ruined, house full of damage and backyard with an additional hole to fill, he now has to repair their bent-up van and realize that his daughter has super powers.
Such a champ. Give him a break!

Amphibia is weird because it’s ten-minute runtime is perfect for some episodes, but also severely hurts others.
Like “Fixing Frobo,” for example. It’s a neat and insanely cute episode that shows how much Poly misses Frobo (even though he was only part of the family for, like, barely half of Season Two), and they handle the story well despite using only ten minutes.
“Anne-sterminator,” however, feels like it could use a little more time. The first few minutes were just blasted by, getting through each plot point before the epic showdown. It eventually levels out, but it seemed as though it weirdly needed more than ten minutes. But even then, it doesn’t feel like it needed to be a twenty minute episode. More like...an episode that needed five minutes to slowly get to the evil robot attacking them. Especially since it felt like whiplash over how sudden it was and how quickly everyone accepted that this was their situation. The fight that follows was awesome, but I feel like we needed a bit more time before rushing into things. It was fine enough, but sometimes you want something to be more that just “fine enough” right?
Still, I liked both of these episodes today. “Fixing Frobo” was cute and introduced two new characters (are they being literal by calling them girlfriends or...). And pacing issues aside, “Anne-sterminator” was pretty epic, while also proving how Mr. and Mrs. Boonchuy (still waiting to learn their real names) are the best cartoon parents in a while with Mrs. Boonchuy acting as the spine while Mr. Boonchuy acts as the heart.
While Mrs. Boonchuy can be a little unfair with Anne, you get her reasoning and understand why she would be so frustrated at Anne for lying and getting into trouble. Again.
As Mr. Boonchuy, he is somehow both the luckiest and unluckiest man on the planet. He’s lucky in how he gets to have badass b**hes as a mother and a daughter, but unlucky in all the stuff that happens to him in these episodes alone. I want to both give him a hug while shaking his hand in congratulatoins.
So, yeah. Two solid episodes again this week. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Amphibia Season 3a Episodes Predictions/Hopes
Some titles for episodes of season 3 of Amphibia were unofficially released a couple of days ago. While these titles have yet to be officially confirmed, I’m going to assume for a moment that they are correct and share my predictions and hopes for what each title could mean.
The New Normal: This episode is full-length instead of being divided into two segments like most Amphibia episodes. My hope is that this one has three segments of about equal length that show the “new normal” for Anne, Sasha, and Marcy. I would be disappointed if we had to wait until the next episode to find out what’s going on with any of the three girls.
Hop ‘Til You Drop: This is the first time we really get to see the Plantars exploring the human world. We get a relatively upbeat episode full of Hop Pop, Sprig, and Polly trying to pass as humans and being amazed at everything they see. Maybe we meet some new human characters.
Turning Point: Really hoping this is about Sasha. Specifically, I think it’ll be about Sasha realizing she has her priorities wrong, and ruling a kingdom is not the most important thing right now. I think this episode will mostly be just Sasha and Grime, where Sasha is pouring her heart out to Grime and reflecting on herself and Grime is being entirely unhelpful.
Thai Feud: There’s a few shots from the trailer that show Anne and Sprig in a Thai food truck that must come from this episode. They definitely seem to be running from something or someone - could this be someone Andrias sent, or a human who wants to know more about the Plantars?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adventures in Catsitting: The Plantars are tasked with watching Domino while Anne and her parents go off to do something nice together. Things go horribly wrong, as the Plantars have no idea how cats work. Overall light-hearted episode.
Fight at the Museum: I’m going to say that the person at the center of this pic from the season 3 opening works at a museum, and maybe the blue-haired person behind them too. Anne and the Plantars go to meet these people for some reason when something, likely Andrias’s robots, attacks, and the museum workers end up helping Anne in the fight. New friends are made.
Tumblr media
Temple Frogs: I have two potential ideas for this one. One is that Sasha, along with frogs from Wartwood, visit the temples and look for clues on what Andrias is doing and/or potential ways to get home. The other idea, and this is the one I like better, is that we get a flashback episode that tells us what’s up with these two frogs pictured next to Andrias. Others have theorized that these three previously matched up with the three gems on the box, and the title of this episode makes me think that theory might be right.
Tumblr media
Fixing Frobo: The two people on the left side of the picture from the opening appear to be holding a robot, so this episode will be about them, well, fixing Frobo. It surprises me, though, that there’s a whole episode dedicated to this. Maybe they repeatedly try and fail to restore Frobo to his original condition, and Polly struggles to accept that they can’t?
Anne-Sterminator: Man, I... do not know with this one. I’ve seen other people guess that this episode has something to do with Anne learning how to use her calamity powers, which makes logical sense, but I still don’t know how the exterminator pun fits in. I guess maybe if Andrias sends robots that resemble bugs? Get back to me on this one.

Anne’s Severe Mental Health
Was rewatching The Big Bugball Game, and something about what Frog Jordan said made me realized just how low Anne’s mental health is.
Anne has a unhealthy need to please people, tries to help everyone in a really unhealthy way, hides her trauma, trust issues, these are obvious, and then there’s there the less obvious; suicidal tendencies, self-degrading, self-blaming and the unhealthy need to feel loved.
1) Anne’s need to please people.
Pre-Amphibia, Anne always listen to Sasha and Marcy without standing up for herself, even if it gets her into trouble.
And it’s not just Sasha and Marcy; in The Big Bugball Game, Anne tries to win the game by herself. It almost felt like she was trying to prove herself. (see number 4 this to make sense.)
In Combat Camp, Anne gets attached to Tritonio and started acting like a Teacher’s Pet.
In Anne of The Year, she tried so hard to prove Toadstool wrong.
The problem is why...
2) The need to feel loved.
In Best Fronds, we see the first signs of the Calamity Trio’s toxic friendship. Anne has mentioned that she feels lost without Sasha and Marcy, and she always listened to them because she’s scared that they won’t be friends anymore.
Normally, she wouldn’t have to rely on Sasha and Marcy to feel loved since she has her parents, but with the way she acts throughout season 1; it has to be something else.
Anne is quick to get attached to The Plantars and tries her best to be respected by Wartwood.
Anne vs Wild is one of the obvious evidences. Anne wants to feel included by the Plantars.
In Family Shrub, Anne looked like she was about to cry once she realizes that she could be a part of The Plantars.
Then there’s Toad Tax, where she tries to get everyone’s respect.
In Cracking Mrs. Croaker, Anne admits that she tried to get a girl to like her.
In Wally and Anne, she didn’t want people to see her as a weirdo.
3) Self-degrading and Self-blame.
Throughout the start, Anne keeps degrading herself and when something goes wrong, she quickly blames herself to be the cause of the problem.
In Best Fronds, she quickly blames herself when she and Sprig got ambushed by a water snake.
In Cane Crazy, Anne said; “Sometimes I wonder why I even bother putting up with you at all!”
In Flood, Sweat, and Tears; Anne said both sentences; “You just couldn’t wait to get rid of me!” “If you wanted me gone; You should have just said so!”
In Wax Museum and Scavenger Hunt, Anne keeps calling herself stupid.
In Sprig’s Birthday, Anne sees herself as a terrible friend.
Some of these implies that Anne doesn’t feel loved at home. There are scenes that show this.
4) Why she doesn’t feel loved by her parents.
In Sprig vs Hop Pop, Anne barely reacted when she and her siblings found out that Hop Pop has been burning their suggestions. Considering her friendship with Sasha, you’d think she’d be mad and tries to challenge him but she didn’t. This implies that she finds this completely normal, it’s possible that her parents don’t listen to her when she tries to help.
In Girl Time, Anne tries to make Polly more “girly”. This is mostly Anne projecting herself to Polly, we’ve seen in Anne-Sterminator that Mrs. Boonchuy dreams Anne to have a successful career; I think Anne knew this from the start, and she tries so hard to change herself.
This evidence can be supported by Swamp and Sensibility; the entire episode is about Anne helping Wally to be accepted by his father for who he is.
In Anne-Sterminator, Anne said both sentences; “Why do I get the feeling I’m not leaving up to your expectations?” “I don’t know when I’ll be the daughter you want me to be.”
And this leads to her doing some unhealthy actions...
5) The need to help people.
Some episodes show that Anne only helps the Plantars because she feels grateful, but I’m pretty sure it only got worse because of Contagi-Anne. The girl got traumatized at what she thought of her adoptive family dying in front of her because of being a lazy child trying to avoid chores.
And it shows throughout the show; in Lily Pad Thai, Snow Day, Handy Anne, Anne Hunter.
This takes a lot out of a child, and there’s a reason why she never asked for help...
6) Trust Issues
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anne has been betrayed 6 times (Tritonio, twice by Sasha, Hop Pop, Andrias, and Marcy). That takes a lot of damage to her mental health.
If Anne never felt loved before getting stranded in Amphibia, then it’s easy for her to assume that she was never loved to begin with because of these betrayals.
And here’s the thing; all of these people who betrayed her except for one incel, do care about her, but their actions made her think that they didn’t; so when Anne finally meets people who tries to help her and actually care about her (Dr. Jan and Terri) She lets them help her and The Plantars, but she no longer believes that people do care about her.
And this leads to Anne doing another unhealthy thing...
7) Bottling her trauma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Anne thinks that no one cares about her, then she’d believe that no one will bother to listen to her problems. So she bottles up her being traumatized by her childhood friends’ near death experiences.
And I’m starting to think that this leads to...
8) Suicidal tendencies.
It’s probably just me but Anne has been getting more reckless ever since Reunion, and it only got worse after True Colors.
She keeps trying to do things on her own and never asked for help until it slaps her in the face.
It’s like she doesn’t care about her own well being anymore.
TLDR; Anne is depressed, traumatized, and most likely to be suicidal. She needs to trust people more and know that she is loved and just have fun in life.

Discussion of abuse tw
You know, old discourse from yesterday's lie and anne-sterminator have convinced me that yall don't know what actual abuse is. Being worried and concerned for your child that isn't telling you the full story or is actively causing harm to other people isn't abuse.
I'm sorry, but the summer camp wasn't abuse, camila was forced to make a tough decision because luz was causing physical harm to her peers. That isn't abuse. And we even learn from yesterday's lie that the camp wasn't nearly as bad as luz initially thought. Camila isn't an "abusive" mother for wanting her daughter to come home from a place that is literally called the demon realm. Yes, Camila didn't fully understand her daughter, but she always wanted what was best for her. That isn't abuse.
Now let's move to Mrs. Boonchuy. So mama boonchuy has been told this half-baked story about what happened to her daughter during her 5 month disappearance. Anne isn't telling the full truth but Mama B has no reason to doubt her, not when there's talking anthropomorphic frogs sitting right across from her. And throughout the episodes she's seen how much her daughter has grown, how responsible and mature she's become. She proud of the person she has become. Keep in mind the fact that Anne is still withholding information from her, (still is, since I assume Mama B didn't read the letters Anne was writing.) So, when the cloakbot comes crashing down in their yard and chases Anne through the house, Mama B is forced to confront that her daughter really hasn't changed. That she's still willing to lie to her face even after everything. So, of course she's weary to trust her daughter again when she was lied to for so long. About a bloodthirsty salamander king sending his minions to kill Anne mind you. It's not that she's "suddenly turning on her daughter." You have to imagine the whiplash Mama B must have gone through from having her daughter become an almost entirely new person only to be revealed to continously be falling back on her old harmful habits. Habits that Mama B would know all to well at this point. Of course she's going to be upset, she's not just worried for Anne's life but also the rest of her family (plantars included). It was also a stressful as hell situation, that had to at least have had some impact in Mama B's heightened emotions. She isn't berating Anne because she's "abusive" she's doing it because she wants Anne to be better, which guess what? Also isn't abusive.
As someone who has grown up with a parent that has verbally abused me throughout my whole life, its really frustrating to see people (mostly kids) label these kinds of parents as abusive. And I know the children saying this don't really know better and I'm not lambasting them. I just don't want this kind of message getting spread around and further blurring the lines for kids who suffer from actual abuse.

Anne-Sterminator: Season 3's First Finale
Before the release of the series' final episodes, Matt did a lot of interviews discussing his time on the show, how production was during Covid, and some of his favorite moments to work on. But one thing he said always stood out to me:
“Something worth pointing out from my point of view is that Anne has two character arcs in Amphibia…Learning to be a more responsible, more adult person…[and] another more nuanced character arc about self-love.”
The idea of Anne having these 2 character arcs gives a new perspective to the series when looking back at Anne’s most pivotal moments, especially 3A. 3A was basically “Anne Boonchuy: The Character Study” in the sense that it explores how Anne has grown throughout the show by pushing her limits in both of her arcs. Structurally this half of the season is divided into 2 parts, each for Anne’s arcs. The Cloak Bot arc(eps 1-5), is all about Anne learning to handle the burdens of responsibility towards her parents, her frog family, and getting back to Amphibia. The Mr.X Arc(eps 6 -10) is about Anne’s story of Self-Love and self-worth as Anne starts to become more self-confident and allows others to assist her.
"Anne-Sterminator" is the climax of the Cloak Bot Arc and the transition to the Mr.X arc. It’s an action-packed culmination of everything established this half of the season acting almost as a mini-season finale, taking many cues from Reunion and True Colors. It's one of my favorite episodes to come back to and I'd love to give it some attention.
Tumblr media
Cloak Bot’s Last Stand:
Tumblr media
This episode starts not with Anne or the Plantars, but with Cloak Bot and this is easily his best appearance yet! CB has already done so much in Anne’s story thus far but this last hurrah for his character is where he really shines as the crew gives him a full episode to do his thing instead of only appearing in the 3rd act to cause Anne trouble.
Cloak Bot has fixed himself up with some Earth technology after his last encounters, with an awesome design change, leaning into him being less of a slick stealth robot, but more into a relentless cold-hearted killing machine. With a buzzsaw of a leg, a construction claw to replace his lost limb, a nailgun with pinpoint precision, and a damaged face after “Fight at the Museum” it establishes Cloak Bot isn’t messing around anymore and will stop at nothing to kill Anne.
Tumblr media
Cloak Bot then gets a call, from the jolly tyrant himself, Andrias. When Andrias appears in an episode, it’s guaranteed this is going to be a big one, from giving info about the temples to his role as the villain in TC, when Andrias appears, shit goes down! This episode continues this pattern, by him turning on the bomb in CB’s chest.
Andrias himself in this scene is great, the writers have found this balance of giving him the jolliness of Santa Claus, and the ruthlessness displayed in TC. It makes Andrias such a fitting villain for Amphibia because he can fit with the normal humor and fun of the show and with darker more intense moments. The Book joke is a great example, Andrias sent this robot to murder his archnemesis, the one person that can stop him and his plans, but the first thing he does is ask for a damn book and berates CB for not getting it. I’m glad the writers remembered this joke in “The New Normal” too it’s was my favorite in that episode.
Cloak Bot now desperate to kill Anne, is lucky enough to have Frobo’s signal to track and follows it with hast. This is a great way of connecting the previous segment together, something season 3 does quite a bit, for example, the vase in Fight at the Museum being central to Anne’s motivation in “Temple Frogs”.
Anne’s Expectations:
Tumblr media
The episode cuts to Anne and her family, with Anne cleaning the house like a pro, and the Boonchuys are eating this up. Starting with Season 2, more characters have ended up joining Anne and Plantars throughout their adventures. With Marcy bringing in an infectious enthusiasm to the crew, or Sasha coming in S2 to cause conflict for Anne, each of them brings about a major shift in the status quo. However, when these 2 join, Anne always ends up regressing as a person and has to claw her back up by dealing with the toxic issues of their friendship. One of the best examples is when Sasha is manipulating Anne to let go of her sword in Reunion, she’s pressuring Anne back into who she was before meeting the Plantars.
The Boonchuys are the exact opposite because they want Anne to progress and they love this version of her and never, ever, want her to regress, creating an expectation Anne must live up to. This works so well for Anne’s arc this season of Anne’s struggle of being her best self, and when sometimes she may not be able to be that all the time, and this is what this episode explores with the Boonchuys.
With these new expectations Anne starts to feel guilty for lying to her parents and tries to tell them what’s really been going on, but just as she’s about to Cloak Bot crashes into the backyard chasing the family down for the rest of the episode.
The Chase:
Tumblr media
The way Boonchuys get to know what is happening is hilarious. They’re technically being told the truth of the situation but every new snippet of information makes Anne look worst and worst. To Sprig mentioning how Anne punched Andrias in the face, or HopPop spilling the beans that they fought this robot before. I love the writers keeping the joke of the Plantars constantly making Anne look bad in front of her parents.
The Jokes in general in this section of this episode are really funny, however, I feel like the episode jokes a bit too much, or at the least, there are too many jokes in succession. This is a rare criticism I have for any episode of Amphibia, the show usually does an excellent job of letting a scene play and keeping tension. But I think the rapid fire of jokes in this section makes the scene lose the tension built up at the start of the episode. This works well for an episode like “Sprig’s Birthday” but here I don’t think it fits. I think losing the “Fumigator joke” and replacing it with an action set-piece could’ve worked better.
Tumblr media
Cloak Bot thankfully makes up for this, thanks to some new characterization in this episode. CB before this point didn’t have too much character to him, he laughed and was a little cocky when he had the upper hand, but other than that not too much. But with the Bomb in his chest, he’s a lot more desperate and emotional, by just how aggressively he pummels the Anne doll, how he keeps constantly looking down at his timer, or how he even goes against Andrias’ orders to not be seen. Cloak Bot isn’t fighting for the mission, he’s fighting for his life, and will do anything to save it.
Cloak Bot in his last appearances usually could pull out anything to attack our heroes. From being able to transform his hand into a laser or an ax, or being able to suddenly shoot lasers from his eyes. However in this episode CB only uses the nailgun, construction claw, and buzzsaw leg everything established at the start of the episode, CB almost has his own move set now.
A Boonchuy Battle:
Anne and her family are now cornered in a junkyard by CB, giving them some time to hide and process what has been going on. Naturally, Mrs.B is furious and this leads to one of my favorite scenes of this season.
For the majority of the series, the personalities of the Boonchuys we’re a mystery, we didn't really know what to think about them. It was only until Hopping Mall that we got to know that Mrs.B was the more strict parent out of the 2, constantly lecturing Anne to improve herself, and pushing her to do her best.
Tumblr media
So when it seems like Anne has been faking her change, something she loved about her, she is absolutely furious. On Braly isn't a voice actor, but with this scene I wouldn't have believed it if you told me, the way she yells at Anne is almost too real, and what she says hits even harder. "I knew it, we were wrong about you, you're still the same irresponsible little girl who used to cut class. "...gosh that's such a punch in the gut because Anne has been trying so hard to handle everything on Earth and was just told by her own Mom that she hasn’t actually grown as a person.
The CB arc has taught Anne how to handle the burdens of responsibility, and you would think by the last episode(“Fight at the Museum/Temple Frogs”) she would’ve completed her arc. Anne has already learned to have a healthy balance of handling her responsibilities, but this episode teaches Anne a new lesson to seal the deal on this arc, humility. Anne may have grown a lot as a person, but the scene teaches Anne that no matter how much she grows she will never be perfect, she may have found a balance of her responsibilities, but it doesn't mean she will handle them the right way all the time.
Tumblr media
If this sounds familiar Anne says something similar to the Three Stones Deity in "The Hardest Thing": “No one's perfect my time in Amphibia taught me that we're all changing and learning as we go", this episode is where Anne starts to realize that. It's a strong end to the Cloak Bot arc, by making Anne realize that she will never stop growing and improving, no matter how much she has changed.
This scene also does a great job of transitioning to the Mr.X arc too by having Anne realize that she's going to need to help from her parents to prevail against CB. Anne is now accepting the help and love of others, and this power of teamwork is what allows our heroes to defeat Cloak Bot once and for all.
Tumblr media
The episode ends with Mrs.B and Anne being able to double team the robot, in an almost too violent way. Like seriously CB gets his skull caved in, stabbed through the chest, his leg ripped off, and finally kicked into space just to be blown to pieces. The Boonchuys and Plantars head home, as the Boonchuys are now fully on board with Anne and her adventures, with the FBI now on the Plantar's trail.
Anne-Sterminator is one of the most unique episodes in the show because it takes a lot from the show’s groundbreaking season finales. Just like TC and Reunion this episode takes a slightly different tone(to a lesser extent) and acts as a cilmax for everything established in this season so far. To lessons Anne learned, her relationship with her parents, CB’s design, the constant callbacks to jokes from this season, all of it returns here. Anne-Sterminator gave Cloak Bot his best appearance yet, and a strong ending to Anne’s Responsibility arc. That and the whole host of other things I mentioned makes Anne-Sterminator one of my favorite 3A episodes.

ANNNND WE'RE BACK!~ This is such a good way to wrap up entirity of Amphibia 3A! Man imagine they aired this back after froggy little christmas and we need to go through hiatus with that cliffhanger lol! Ok so here's some details I noticed while watching this ep! Spoiler below as always!
Tumblr media
the ep starts off with scenes from anne-sterminator, fight at the museum, hollywood hop pop, froggy little xmas, and Hop 'Til You Drop
Tumblr media
Mr. X car is called X-mobile and for some reason they want pirate sword, shark fin, and jet rocket?
Music used as coordinates is the notes for Music Box leitmotif
When the portal startup, Music Box leitmotif is played
The red mantis is from the first ep
The infrared pics of Anne and plantars have plantars with red color on outside and blue inside bcuz frogs are cold-blood
Mr. X have an alien with cowboy hat figurine
Star wars reference, enough said
Anne's sword fighting skill is probably from her time in Amphibia
Tumblr media
WHYYY AMPHIBIA CREW WHYYYY ;-;
Light sabers in this universe is called "Light Blade"
When Anne and Sprig talk, Anne's ost played
Some of movie Polly got include Die Difficulty (Die Hard), Dragon Liver (Dragonheart?), Low Lander, Bottom Gun, and Lethal Fist (if u guys know what the rest reference to comment below plz)
Hop Pop getting his clothes destroyed again
Tumblr media
Woody is seen under the car when Anne and Plantar is running away
Tumblr media
Steven Universe Mr. Universe van can be seen when the Boonchuys chase FBI (the van is called Mr. Galaxy and it's blue)
Anne's dad is blushing and looking at Anne's mom when she's driving
As someone who drive through Bangkok in rush hour, can confirm
When Anne's car drive into small alley way, the van that come afterward have the word "move it" on it
One of the box in the alley have Idea(Ikea) logo on it
Some of the enemies Polly need to kill include Duckweed(newt that tries to shut down Stumpy's in Lily Pad Thai), Gary(Apothagary from child of the spore), Tritonio (combat camp teacher), Barry (from Cursed!), Gunther (hulk frog from Croak and Punishment), and Nelly (from Turning Point)
EVERYONE FROM 3A IS BACK!
The word to word translation of what thai aunts said is "I like frogs with garlic, very delicious"
IT girls panda robot!
There's a poster in FBI HQ that said "FBI stand-up Night!"
Frogs from the episode Mr. X
"You're not my little anymore Anne," a change from Mrs. Boonchuy from Anne-sterminator
The entirety of Anne defeating FBI agents with light saber is reference to Star Wars Rogue One Darth Vader scene
There's a Cythia Coven(harry potter ref that marcy and andrias like) book in Mr. X van
Tumblr media
Some of things in Anne's bag include shrimp chips, cookies(probably cuz anne like cookies in If You Give a Frog a Cookie) , book, sunscreen, power bank, tennis balls, cat plush, a pics from Adventures in Catsitting's background, and EXTRA PAIR OF SHOES
One of the code's line is "tp: <redirect>" probably meant teleport lol
Tumblr media
I love this scene
I like the quote anne said before activating her power is a small cherry on top of her growth this season
The red mantis is the same one as before
The red mantis was defeat in the same way as the first episode
Anne still got her shoes and no leaves in her hair after being transport
Tumblr media
This scene is exact shot from Fort in the Road when they leave the valley for the first time
Annnd that's all the details I can find for this episode! This is a great episode to wrap up the entire 3A, I'm glad we see every earth character we saw so far and them having a role! I love the interaction of every characters and can't wait to see what is in store next week!

What boggles me is the fact that the supposed last episode title of Season 3A has the word "Escape" in it. I mean, of course, it could just be a catchy name to excite the viewers that fucking finally Anne is going back, but... is there something that Anne and the Plantars are "escaping" from? If so, what? CloakBot was already killed by King Andrias in 'Anne-sterminator'. Did he actually decide to get a portion of his robot army TO MOTHERFUCKING EARTH because he was salty about what happened in Christmas? But if that's so, wouldn't that even be more of a reason for Anne to stay on Earth and protect her family and basically the entire LA?
Wait... "escape"... please don't tell me the rest of the Boonchuy family will be coming with her to Amphibia... that's... that's just gonna drag the story a little. I hope not. I love Mr. and Mrs. Boonchuy a lot, but their screentime is over. Let the rest of the characters get their screentime back and focus on the important aspect of Season 3B: Dark Marcy. And the history of the Calamity Box. And the history of King Andrias and his two friends. And--

💕,⚔️,😱,🧐,👀
💕 - What was your favorite episode from this half season?
I really liked sprigs birthday and froggy little xmas! for obvious reasons I'm pretty sure haha
⚔️ - How do you think Andrias will die? :D
either by anne's/the girls' hands or the core's (I think it'd be interesting if he lived though)
😱 - Was there a scene in season 3a that took you completely by surprise?
I REALLY didn't expect mrs b's outburst in anne-sterminator!! Something about expecting anne to have a breakdown from the guilt of her parents trusting her and having one instead from that AND her mom's accusations was a different kind of pain I wasn't ready for ( T▽T )
🧐 - Which scene from this season did you rewatch the most?
If we're talking about proper scenes prolly the friend punch one in sprigs bday! the silly ones though, like Mr b and Anne going yes yes yes and Anne dancing in flx has probably been lazered onto my brain from memory (they are too cute)
👀 - What are you most excited to see in season 3b?
The girls reuniting and reconciling with each other 😔💔
Also any scene with andrias if the show will ever attempt to bring his deeper motivations to light! Bonus points if it happens while anne is there, like an acting foil :)

Amphibia Season 3a ranking Part 1
The New Normal 3/10
Yeah there's no hiding my dislike for this one, after 5 months of waiting the first episode after True Colors will give you whiplash in just how little there is to give a fuck about, after the heartbreaking season 2 finale they one is so desperate to go back to comedy it damages the rest of the season, points go to Anne just saying Marcy's gotta be okay because she just has to be.
Hop Till you Drop 9/10
A comedy episode but honestly it's a funny one and pretty much is what the season could be if they actually did focus on Comedy instead of comedy substitute.
Turning Point 6/10
The only Sasha episode this point and it feels like they really want to redeem her, Sasha worked in previous episodes as a negative for Anne but this is all that it takes for her to change? It's fun but there should have been another Sasha episode this season.
Thai feud 5/10
Sprig becomes a lot more obnoxious this season, I mean he's always kind of like that but this is just kind of bleh, I do like Ned but I have such a problem with him being so cool with seeing a girl he's know for years come back and is "oh your not dead" fucker a missing girl came back that's a miracle right there.
Adventures in Cat-sitting 8/10
See again you can still do comedy episode but this right here is a good one with a genuine emotional moment between Mr Boonchuy and the Plantars. Season 3 needed more of these.
Fight at the museum 6/10
Okay so two problems where, one I get that Anne is suppose to be making bad decisions because of a lack of sleep but man could you not have the bad decision involve doing the shit that got her stuck in Amphibia in the first place and secondly Jan is the ultimate example of character that annoy me this season, shes bland, the opposite of characters from Wartwood. It's unfair for me to judge this character from one apprence but honestly she's just not that fun, the fight with Assbot was fun.
Temple Frogs 5/10
This is a episode I'm generally conflicted about, on one hand I like how it shows the message of how a good community can help people during hard times, and the Plantars enjoying Thai culture. Problem is that well Marcy has been stabbed, Sasha fighting a robot army and their parents don't know anything about it. This episode is fine buts the first one you could cut for more pressing matters.
Fixing Frobo 1/10
Frobo getting fixed is more important then discussing what happened in True Colors fuck this.
Anne-sterminator 7/10
I haven't really mentioned Ass-bot that much but that's because well these aren't that indepth, but it's amazing how one robot can be more like ale than Frobo and how kind of sad his death is, only doing his job and is being punished by a king only because Andrais is an idiot. But credit where its due the Boonchuys discover what happened and Anne finally admits that she's having problems with what to do next
