okay. I read gideon the ninth. i gave in and read the popular book that i had a grudge against reading because it was popular and marketed as lesbian books and it got recommended every time anyone talked about the lack of women as main characters in sci-fi/fantasy. and it was exactly as good as people said it was. also, for those of you who thought i was unbearable over zoro?? you ain't seen nothing yet

#the marketing as lesbian books isn't a bad thing... i just get very tired of like queer book marketing? if that makes sense #yes i want books with queer characters but i don't really want that to be the only reason a book is considered good #i hope i'm making sense #but that's not how it was! there were lesbians and it was central to the characterization of some characters but that was not what the story #was actually about and not once was sexuality ever brought up and no modern words were ever used to describe someone's sexuality #it was literally. normal. it just was the way they were and it wasn't a whole thing #(also gender was treated the same) and it was genuinely nice and good and wonderful (and high key relatable lol) #but anyway. gideon is everything to me. she is The Character #so i am about to spend a stupid amount of money on a larp longsword #and i am going to think about her every day till i die #also i am going to be reading the next books... but in order to avoid book induced insomnia i will try to read them slower lol #(we'll see if i can succeed or not)

I never understood the bit at the beginning of Fear Street hey hey everyone go watch it right now it is SO GOOD where one of the characters that the film wants us to sympathize with reacts to a local tragedy with a kind of flagrant, unhinged humor.

And then 2020 lasted for 84 years.

And I was like,

#fear Street #original #fear street 2021 #also just for the record these are some of the best horror movies I've ever seen and I recommend them to everyone #it also holds a special place in my heart for being the very first slasher film I ever saw that wasn't ableist #it's a trilogy of movies that were all released in 2021. they really tell one cohesive story so it's hard to separate one as the best #but holy shit. I have only ever seen such good theming in a horror film in projects that Jordan Peele has worked on #for anyone wondering it is the moment towards the beginning of the first film when kids in the Shadyside High School are #not reacting how one would expect to a horrible local tragedy. and at first I thought it was just the regular thing at the beginning of #every shitty horror film that people call '20 minutes with assholes' where we mark all these characters as meat for the meat grinder so #'don't get too attached they're all jerks anyway.' which has the unfortunate side effect of you the viewer having to #hang out with these assholes for at least 90 minutes. at the end even if the one likable character survives - who cares?? #they still have to hang out with assholes till they die! same as if the murderer got them! #anyway I'm not a fan of this trope. but like everything else in these movies it is actually a brilliant inversion of a trope! #because these movies go out of their way to establish that this is not just a local tragedy - this is a tragedy in an endless #string of tragedies dating back to before these characters were even born! #it's not that Simon doesn't care! it's that everyone needs to fucking cope somehow and he does so through humor! #God I love these fucking films

Every single one across multiple sites (can't even tell you if they're good at it, I didn't click through to the studies cause I find studies often very very dense and hard to pick out the worthwhile info, so I'm not doing that for not what I'm looking for)

Like... I mostly want to know if this is a good idea to grab these (look good) or if it's a good way to bleed out (advertising isn't always truthful)

I'm not totally sure if it's the same study on many sites, or if they just... really wanted to study this but... that's what I've found
