Now I’m only antiquated to the WEBTOON comics but I noticed amongst the Griz Grobus sequel lore book there was a tidbit on Hive-men, I’m assuming that was a bit of a reference to Humanity Lost? And if it’s alright can you go into more on this lore?

Ah this is an interesting wrinkle - not to toot my own horn too loud, but by god, my hive men predate humanity lost by a good few years!

They first arose while I was working on Prophet and collaborating with my friend Matt Sheean on a story about hive-men on mars, back in 2013 (that never quite materialized into a solid story)- with the main thrust of the tale being not about the hive as an inexorable mindless mass, enslaved to a queen (which is the usual villainous hive depiction), but with the hive as a sort of beneficial, eusocial, communitarian approach to living on a hostile world - contrasted well against the individualistic, identitarian and ultranationalistic worldviews of the earthmen trying to conquer them. (Ive read enough sci fi with the same mindless hive army...)

But their first visual appearance of my version was sometime in 2015, i think, for the Island magazine cover posted below. (Trade between baseline humans of some type and the hive men, goods being carried by silk-line to the great dyson tree...)

The first tale of the hive men i made (second ever story on my patreon) was drawn in 2017, and covers a dyson-tree habitat (in this case, grown around the comet hale-bopp) encountering a voracious organism of the void:

The latest story of the hive-men, drawn in 2021, is about an interloper earthman, a deserter from an invading army, who has found a new living among the martian hive-people, in a story called "A Portrait of the Artist as Hive Parasite" (colored by my longterm collaborator, Sergey Nazarov - without him i would wither and perish)

These stories can be found on my patreon, and they'll also be showing up in print (at some point, probably next year) once I get my next short story collection sorted. Hell, they'll probably end up online on webtoons soon enough, too!

gotta say, i'm kinda uncomfy the assumption that amanda and crow are romantically involved given the current battlegrounds dialogue where crow admits he hates falling to his death and amanda says that "i'll keep that in mind. maybe i took it too easy on you with the shotgun"

like that is just... straight up mean. i get that amanda is taking her feelings abt uldren out on crow, but that's just petty at best and cruel at worst. i know guardians kill each other for fun in the crucible, but that's never portrayed as actively mean-spirited, unlike this.

and yet, even in the bloody youtube comments for the video of this dialogue, ppl are going "oh look at that romantic foreshadowing!".

crow even responds to that line with (far more grace than i would have) "you've never taken it easy on me to my knowledge", which just. i'm fucking bamboozled. he's not even saying it in a snarky or flirty way, why do people assume it's romantic when one character is threatening to kill another in a way they explicitly hate???

im gonna be honest, i love gay headcanons, but a bunch of characters people claim are "canonically" gay just have a close relationship to their friends. like some of you haven't platonically let someone play with your hair. also why do i keep seeing it in relation to incest shut the fuck up shut up siblings can hug each other

got to Sansa II in AGOT and one of the noticeable themes here isn't just sansa determined to see the beautiful song that she was promised and deliberately trying her hardest not to see the monstrous reality she glimpsed on the kingsroad - there's also the theme that every male presence that directly interacts with sansa in this chapter isn't really interacting with her herself. they're projecting their own internal images on her.

joffrey is treating her with courtesy and impressing her, but it's clear after his parents' public fight that he's doing this because he's supposed to. sansa is even afraid of him at first, and the fear comes back after that. joffrey will treat His Betrothed well, but when he's reminded that it's sansa, it sours.

petyr is thrown right back into his childhood, his humbert-esque excuse of his lost annabelle catelyn, and he's clearly projecting that all over sansa.

loras is overcompensating heterosexuality so hard, he names a twelve year old girl the most beautiful maiden!! and this is a lie, it's a performance, and sansa doesn't know this yet.

and sandor clegane is projecting his anger, his hurt, his trauma, all over a twelve year old girl who is scared and nervous, because she won't look at his face. he's determined to make her hurt for the way she reminded him of his own reality.

all four of these figures have power over sansa. they have the ability to make her hurt if they want to or to be benevolent kind figures, but that's just it - the choice isn't sansa's, it's theirs. sansa's safety is in jeyne and septa mordane, and it's only upon losing them that she is terrorized fully. two of the figures are grown ass men just having a blast creeping out a twelve year old girl (extra props to clegane for intentionally making her cry, what a good person)!!

sansa is already tangled up in this web and she's barely arrived. it isn't her fault, and no twelve year old on the planet could have capably extricated themselves from this (I'm not entirely sure I could have when I was twenty-two), but it's so heartbreaking to watch.
