Prosit Neujahr, everyone. Some thoughts on what I would like to accomplish with art this year. Putting this under the link so I don't textwall anyone!

I will continue to be unable to focus much on art for the first few months of this year. 2023 all my socmeds nosedived and died due to inactivity, unfortunately that will continue for a bit. Regular posting shoulddddd continue starting March/April. Should. I started posting art online in 2008, in 2015 I started being regular with it. I haven't been as inactive as I have been last year since then. I really want to change that but I can't sacrifice irl responsibilities for it, obviously.

The Live2D stuff and starting art streams is definitely still on the table, and I will start working on that again once things calmed down here.

While I will continue drawing fanart for the fandoms people follow me for, I want to try something different. I want to start drawing topic matter very close and dear to me. Cultural stuff. I have yet to decide on how exactly I want to touch that, as it might end up being controversial. ..... Well, it 100% will end up being controversial should it take off, I already know. As weird as it sounds, I have to be prepared mentally for that and stop giving the last few shits I still have. Might take some time til then, so it may not happen within this year. But it's been on my mind for a long while now.

On that regard, I don't really feel pressured anymore to upload regularly or to draw art with mainstream appeal. I just want to draw what I like. With the advent of AI, socmed platforms randomly changing algorythms and thus killing my visibility, my dreams of becoming a freelancer are dead and buried. Good part is, I really don't care about socmed numbers anymore! Glass half full n all that.

Prints will happen, and keychains too. I opened the Inprnt-Store since I don't have time to produce and ship merch myself, but it's something I will get to again.

Emma is actually my least favourite of the Austen novels and I also find it very dense. The first time I read it I was unimpressed. My last readthrough I tried an audio book and that helped immensely, especially with the Miss Bates parts. But best of luck to you! I hope you get over your slump. Also, thank you ❤️.

I'm going to go through all the Emma adaptations I've seen in order of goodness just for fun:

My favourite adaptation is Emma. 2020, I could watch it on repeat. As a movie, it seems to really love the source material. However, they did make a few significant changes especially at the end to make it more palatable to a modern audience. Emma actually apologizes to Robert Martin and invites Harriet's father to Hartfield. However, I feel that it really captures the snobby side of Emma well and her growth through the novel. Mr. Elton is really well done too. Mr. Knightley is both the right age and he sings! Oh and Mr. Woodhouse is played as more sprightly but still eccentric.

Emma 1996 (Kate Beckinsale) is pretty good. Beckinsale is one of my favourite actresses, though I think she's gotten better over time. The biggest issue is a line added at the end of Mr. Knightley holding Emma as a baby which is just ew, why did you do that screenwriter??? Great Mrs. Elton though.

Emma 1972 is kind of weird and includes a lot of non-Austen dialogue, but it has the best Harriet. She looks exactly like she should and she is always saying, "Yes, Miss Woodhouse." in this schoolgirl voice. Emma actually beginning to dictate the letter to Robert Martin for Harriet is *chef's kiss* But I didn't really like Emma herself in that version and it adds dialogue and scenes. It's free on Youtube by the way.

I don't like Emma 2009 very much even though it is fairly faithful. They create this strange false equivalency between Frank, Jane, and Emma; Emma even thanks her father once for not sending her away! It was bizarre because the dynamic is actually that Mr. Woodhouse could never survive without Emma. I also just found it so boring! I'm not sure why. I did not find Romola Garai elegant at all, which Emma is obsessed with. The word "elegant" appears 28 times in Emma and no more than 14 times in any other novel...

I really dislike Emma 1996 (Gwyneth Paltrow). I find Emma far too sweet and Mr. Knightley ACTUALLY POUTS, which is insane. Behold!

Also, Mrs. Weston's baby is hardly shown and I have a whole thing for Mrs. Weston's baby.

Clueless. I mention it last because it's a modernization, but man did they get it right. Cher embodies the spirit of Emma so well! It is a delight. 10/10. Highly recommend. Paul Rudd too.

Those are all the adaptations I have seen. I have not seen Aisha or the web series versions.

My sister was saying "You should write that idea for a novel about [REDACTED] that you had a while ago for NaNo. I think that could be really fun" and I was like oh yeah! I remember we got a kick out of that one. And then, after a pause, had be like... could you remind me what the plot was again? It was like when my mum reads a book and strongly recommends it to me the day after she finishes it, but can't remember any of the characters names or what happened, but it was definitely very good and I should read it so we can talk about it!

Except this was a story I made up myself and devoted not an insignificant amount of thought to, and then never committed any of what I came up with to the page because it was still early stages and I would "remember" what my initial ideas were 🙄

𝐂𝐋𝐗. The belief in the Abyss has been established in Khaenri'ah for a very long time, born from the obsessions with the gods and to one day overthrow them with little regard for the people outside the kingdom as their "enemies", just for living under The Seven. This reverence to the Abyss was further intensified when Khaenri'ah was going through a tough spot for undetermined reasons, although one of them could easily be the fall of King Irmin as the last one of the Blacksun / Eclipse dynasty.

However, not everything was done out of wrong intentions. It's only natural that in a hostile environment would lead to the need for investigation of that which makes the location dangerous in order to protect themselves and to create medicines as a means to build resistance to the Abyss.

While this blind belief isn't exclusive to the native Khaenri'ahns, as it would spread to those who come from other nations that adapted extremists mindsets too, it brought unrest in the society with the excessive experimentation to the point of using a source of energy dangerous for everyone's health and the suspicious apparitions of monsters despite the fact that the borders were well-guarded by Black Serpents and automatons alike.

When people started to be more vocal about their discontentment with the situation surrounded the Abyss, outsiders were first to be blamed and thus were regarded as people who haven't abandoned yet their faith or too obtuse to not accept these "better ways" Khaenri'ah had. The Abyss continued to be a mystery even to nobles and highly restricted, but the issues it caused were to big to not be noticeable. And among the outsiders that were genuinely concerned were also native Khaenri'ahns that disliked the route the society was going. Just like people of other nations wanted nothing to do with the gods and have peaceful lives without worrying about divine judgement, so was the case of some natives of Khaenri'ah.

The arrogance and superiority-complex of many from the high sphere of aristocracy led them to believe that outsiders were still below them and that all the natives have the same mindset as they have. At first, only Black Serpents in keeping in mind the citizens' safety in combination to their own beliefs that what was happening is wrong were the ones who verbalized aloud the unrest, and they ran the risk of being put down by the hands of Black Serpent Knights. But to the surprise of those who fell a long time ago into these obsessions, it wasn't the case and it's because the Black Serpent Knights who supported them and other Khaenri'ahn natives that weren't afraid anymore of voicing their agitation that those who were at the helm of the Abyss as a new religion had to back down and eventually continue their reverence and experimentation clandestinely.

And for some time, it actually worked and people believed that things could only get better from that point onwards, with those who were deep into their obsession for the Abyss now falsely-presumed to have stopped their endeavors until Lumine descended to Khaenri'ah in answer to the wishing ritual that the devotion for the Abyss started to boil again from its clandestine status until everything exploded with the cataclysm.

Re-reading addicted after watching Stay With Me, I had forgotten how OBSESSED Gu Hai is with Luo Yin, like he can't stop thinking about having sex with his boy for ONE (1) second

Also, I'm rediscovering things, for example in the drama, Su Yu's ex-girlfriend says she came back because of his words and he's like '"what words, I didn't answer you" and she tells hims "exactly", but in the book, Luo Yin actually answered her "I have someone I like and who would mind me talking to you" and she came back because she didn't believe him, I mean obviously Chinese censorship had to change this, but damn in the book it's so impactful because Luo Yin's feelings aren't so clear and here he clearly tells her he likes Gu Hai, something he stills refuses to tell him and which of course this jealous idiot doesn't hear

#stay with me #i really love this book and the translation flows really well #although they are still so freaking problematic #especially gu hai bc i don't remember when bc i read the book 3 years ago #but he's gonna r*pe luo yin which in my mind makes no freaking sense when you read this book #the way he unconditionally loves luo yin is so well-written and then he does that??? #the author is freaking crazy that's what #i just can't believe he would hurt luo yin like that #anyway i'm not there yet and what stresses me is that i don't remember when it happens #i wish it just didn't happen but at least i live in a world where wu bi never did it to su yu #one of many things they fixed in the series #well anyway with censorship they couldn't have that they can already barely kiss when in the book they're touching all the freaking time #btw still haven't watched ep24 and refusing to do so at the moment lol
