#i don’t even like shoujo anymore??

Note
YAY! i greatly enjoyed your shoujo au!!! it was amazing to read, ty for your contribution to humanity u r doing god's work frfr!!! would you be willing to write a hanahaki au for the twst second years? (preferably an angsty ending, but if you would prefer something happier, that's 100% fine with me!! i'm not picky!!) 🤭♥️
hanahaki + second years
hanahaki: a fictional disease caused by unrequited love in which you vomit blood and flower petals (flowers tend to relate to the person you) and although there is an option for treatment, you become numb to emotions. if you don’t get treatment, you die.
(I decided to add how the twst seconds years would treat the disease— will they get treatment or not?)
not very good angst warning under the cut!!!
riddle rosehearts
riddle grew up alone, mostly. every time he seeked for comfort, for company, it’ll fall apart. it would always go wrong, he’d lose everything the moment he got too greedy.
riddle still struggled to properly face trey and chen’ya after all those years, even if he got better with it. it was too embarrassing, too lame. he felt like a loser. a sore loser who deserved nothing. oh sevens, did the world have something against him?
things were looking on the bright side. he was out of his mother’s furious grip, he has more freedom than he ever did (even if he goes by strict rules) he could make as many friends as he liked and hang out with them as much as he liked.
he still preferred being private, however. he liked his friends, you included. they were more understanding of him than any other member of the school. although he’d twist and turn in bed when he thinks back to his overblot (how embarrassing of me! he thinks) he would still much prefer being with those who accepted him a long time ago.
you weren’t too big on sweets. you liked them, sure, but the more you ate the more your mouth felt itchy. knowing riddle’s sweet tooth, sometimes, you’d secretly pass your unfinished slice of cake or unfinished strawberry tart to him. riddle rosehearts, the strict, germaphobic, lowkey a dictator, heartily took it.
if it were anyone else, he’d just stare at them in disbelief. but the thought that you bit into the very sweet treat, it threw him over the moon. he’d read of indirect kisses before, in cheesy romances he read in his spare time. he doesn’t know if this is actually an indirect kiss, but don’t make fun of him, he’s still learning!
riddle has a lot of firsts, like the first time he tried that strawberry tart, or the first time he learned that playing with friends is fun, or the first time he ever overblotted, or the first time he fell in love.
you were his first love.
he turns red when alone, imagining your face and your laughter and your joy. your silly mishaps that he has no heart on lecturing you over, or your inability to understand some of the assignments. he finds all aspects of you cute— wonderful? he doesn’t know how to describe what he’d feeling, but it gets him all giddy.
he’s frustrated often, the way he started blushing violently when you ever get in close contact with him and how you always, always seem to be unaware of this. oblivion would send you to hell.
he’s been feeling quite nauseous lately, probably because of his failed attempts of clumsily sending you signals about how he feels.
it was to a point where he threw up… petals? petals…??????? oh my god, he’s throwing up petals!!!
riddle distinctively remembers reading about this during his first year, a disease of romance, love, and failure.
his heart sinks. maybe that’s why you failed to notice.
things never go his way, riddle thinks. he’s always feeling alone. every time he gets greedy for comfort, he loses it at the highest point of his life. when things are getting better, it takes turns for the worse. that’s why riddle likes to follow the rules.
by his third year, riddle’s back to being his strict, controlling prefect. except something’s different, he’s not as angry anymore.
that’s to be expected, though. ever since the surgery, riddle has never been the same.
ruggie bucchi
he has grown up to treasure everything he has.
ruggie isn’t as financially stable as others, he wasn’t lucky to be fortunate enough to get what he wants, whenever he wants.
so when he does get what he wants, ruggie makes sure to keep it close to his heart like it means everything. most of the time, it does mean everything, all of it. his life.
he hardly gives away his things (please don’t mention the kids at the slums, he’ll turn awfully shy.) and takes anything he’s given.
when you would give him the tiniest amount of food, he’d gladly snatch it from your hands and walk away snickering.
easy target for food is what you are, he thinks.
most of the time, when people give things away to him, ruggie just assumes that it’s unwanted. he’d take leftovers no problem. it’s only when you’d constantly hand things to him, always have something to give him and remember he exists, does he think you’re odd. I mean, he’s fine with taking the forgotten leftovers, but what could he possibly do when you don’t forget him?
watch ruggie clumsily fiddle around with his fingers, scanning the area for your presence. he has learned to not worry, as you always manage to come find him everyday without fail. he feels noticed.
he starts to crave for that attention.
ruggie treasures things. he keeps them close in his heart very carefully. but what would he do when you steal his heart instead? where can he hide all the things that mean everything to him?
somehow, he doesn’t mind. he wants you to see him more, ruggie bucchi, his true self.
the crave he has for you is for some odd reason, unmet. you’re oblivious to his shy antics, the way his ears turn flat when you walk away or the way he holds onto the hem of your shirt just for a second longer.
notice him.
notice him.
notice him.
when you see the way he unconsciously covers his mouth whenever you meet eyes with him, or the how he’s constantly going to the infirmary, will you finally notice him?
there’s a trail of your favourite flowers.
ruggie bucchi keeps all the special things close to his heart. when you take his heart away, how else can he express his pathetic, unrequited love? by coughing up a disease ruggie would’ve called embarrassing and shameful if it weren’t for you.
azul ashengrotto
azul is sensitive. he notices things way too easily. the tiny, insignificant details of someone and how they react, he will notice. that is how azul finds out how a person truly feels about him.
even if azul and that other person were considered close friends, azul would still notice the tiny little details that make him unlikable to them even just a little. it’s been a habit for as long as he could remember.
everyone always had something they disliked about azul. it was fine with him, that was normal. everyone dislikes everyone about anything. it’s not like it deters long lasting relationships. azul shrugs it off, it doesn’t bother him. it’s comforting, even, knowing what people think about him.
so it was obvious to say it was near-horrid when no matter how much time azul spent time with you, he could not spot anything off about you, anything that said you didn’t like him.
as much as azul notices how people act around him, he also notices other people. he knows all their flaws, their good sides and their bad sides. even if he couldn’t read your thoughts about him at all, he still expected to see something out of the norm about you, a bad trait, something that made you human.
to him, you had none.
were you god? how come you were near-perfect in his eyes? during cold months, the tips of your nose and ears would flush pink like a cute plum while azul turned embarrassingly red. he thought it was ugly and didn’t make him look good, but there nothing to prove that you thought the same. he couldn’t tell anything about you at all.
you were like a confusing puzzle piece to him. unsolvable, unreadable, flawless. perfect.
it took a while to adjust, but his unwavering respect for you turned into wavering thumps of his heart and dodging eyes. maybe you weren’t perfect after all, maybe azul just likes you.
the terrible urge to impress you grew stronger everyday.
he wanted to look as perfect as you did to him.
but how can he possibly ever look perfect,
when he is sick?
hovered over the toilet, azul clutched his chest as petals slid out of his mouth as if it were apart of him. well, it is apart of him, I guess. his love for you is one with him after all.
azul is sensitive, but he tries not to show it. not only is he good at catching the little things, he’s quick to anger or get hurt. the best he can do is hide them. so he hides the feeble emotion he calls love and comes back after winter break just as the same. he’s dutiful and runs his business like he normally would, and still hangs out with you time to time. he just feels more… empty? you’ll never know why he seems to be this way, no one really knows about the surgery.
jade leech
jade is often avoided by many people.
people find him creepy, odd, off-putting, unnerving… and more comments he hasn’t bothered to find out about.
those names don’t really bother him. in fact, he enjoys it. he loves watching people squirm in fear over something he says out of the blue. It’s exciting to watch a person try to decide if they should run away or not, unaware of jade’s capabilities.
he’s used to people avoiding him. for the sacrifice of entertainment, he isn’t all that popular. jade leech is used to it.
you were different, however.
your simply didn’t find him creepy. anything he said that was weird, you’d laugh it off and say something weird back too. jade’s height, creepy smile or the way he talks, it doesn’t seem to throw you off at all. you’d smile and wave at him when no one else dared to, you’d easily graze your skin against his and pay no mind, you’d approach him without second thoughts. It was like mutual trust, something jade has learned is difficult to find when you’re him.
so you meant everything. you were just as new and exciting, a pleasant surprise from the predicted fear everyone else has. you made him feel… seen for the first time in his life.
soon, everything you did was like a horror movie (weird analogy, I know. but it’s jade leech we’re talking about!) the intensity of when the killer would approach, or when the character is alone and vulnerable, his heart pumps like wildfire as he watches expectantly to see what the new surprise would be. his favourite feeling was when the victim would die or escape, the tightening in his chest releasing as he excitedly watches what would happen next. that was you. you were his favourite feeling.
he loves the way your eyebrows moved in expression when you talked, he loved when you sneezed and looked around expecting a “bless you,” he loved the odd ways you attempted to hold your mug comfortably and most of all, he loved you. he love you very, very much.
jade leech is used to all kinds of things. he’s used to people avoiding him, he’s used to his brother’s tendencies to groan and complain at everything, he’s used to azul’s creepy capitalist tactics.
what he’s not used to, however, are the bubbly, excited emotions he feels when he gets to experiment with his beloved mushrooms, the way you took over his thoughts like the plague and most of all, he wasn’t used to the flowers spilling out of his mouth.
this was odd, per say. jade knew of the hanahaki disease. he knew of all the downsides of it. but he never worried, because, how could he, jade fucking leech, ever love someone so pathetically?
he hoped that you’d love him back too. he oh-so deeply wished he was just as new and exciting to you as you were to him.
the blood meticulously dripped amongst his fingers, flower petals sticking to it alike. he laughed at himself. he’s always imagined that if he’d ever possibly get this disease, it’ll be flowers related to the water like lotuses or water lilies. he never thought he’d start coughing up such pathetic land-dweller flowers.
it was fine, though. jade would get used to it, eventually.
because after all, he’d rather die than stop loving you.
floyd leech
floyd is scary, he knows that. He’s quick to anger, moody, tall and intimidating. He’s doesn’t really care, though. He just does what he wants. He doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal.
he likes fun surprises, something new, exciting. he thinks you meet that of that.
you’re not as scared as others, you respond to his pranks and squeezes positively, you respect his mood swings and he even caught a few glimpses of you defending him. he thinks you’re so cute!
it’s not odd to talk about the leech twins without mentioning you. floyd follows you every and jade just goes wherever floyd goes. it’s like a little trio.
you don’t get scared like others when he gets upset, return his squeezes (hesitatingly…he hugs tight!) and find him rather silly than scary.
jade thinks you were almost made for floyd, considering how well you two get along. although jade has been with floyd the longest, he can only tolerate to a certain point for you, however, it seemed to go endless. you were so much more patient with floyd then with anyone else. although floyd made be subtle about it, he’s grateful.
floyd adored you. you were everything he loves, for he loves you.
loved you.
loved? (love)
floyd started to ignore you. you’d tilt your head in confusion— you were upset. why would your best friend suddenly act like you weren’t even there? he wouldn’t even get mad, he’d just turn the other way.
it was only so long ago when floyd was hunched over in his bed from a terrible stomach ache. jade was horribly surprised to see bloody petals staining floyd’s bedsheets.
floyd never bothered with these things. for the first time in a while, he read a book out of his own volition to figure out what it was, only to rip the pages apart when he read what hanahaki was.
childishly declaring that he loves you no more, floyd would stay away from you like the plague, whilst secretly filling his system with flowers that will kill him for ever loving someone so deeply.
floyd is gonna disappear from your life completely eventually. you’d wonder what caused your best friend to suddenly hate you, while his family mourns over the loss of a loved one, as floyd refused treatment, because he foolishly decided to love you.
kalim al-asim
kalim grew up very sheltered in a loving family. The only concept of love he has is of his parents, who hold hands tightly and gush over the cutest things. they often warn him of the danger of love, and that he must be careful about the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
kalim, although clumsy and stupid, always kept that in the back of his mind.
you were like a breath of fresh morning air. growing up knowing very little, you were the newest, most brightest experience there was. kalim was sure you were the one. he was completely sure, why else would his heart thump so fast?
he’d hug you and hold your hand, give you gifts you could never even imagine having and tell you how much he appreciates you.
kalim hasn’t gone around to mouthing the word “love” yet, but he knows that you know anyway.
so when he started coughing up petals, jamil was quick to inform the al-asim family. kalim was confused, he didn’t understand. this love wasn’t unrequited, there was no way!
it doesn’t matter, though. he’s gonna continue loving you, you and him are gonna be happy together someday, eventually. maybe not in this universe.
kalim woke up in a hospital bed, his heart heavy.
he loves you. but he forgot what that feels like. he loved you. somehow.
jamil viper
jamil is smart. he’s smart and knows his worth. this is why he hates being in second, he knows he deserves so much more.
why does he always to have do worse than kalim? why does he always have to be second place? jamil is smart enough to know his potential. he also knows how much he’s holding himself back for the sake of hierarchy. he hates it.
it’s not a surprise when jamil finds himself unconsciously doing slower than certain people to appear normal. his main purpose in life is to not stand out, hide in the shadows, survive. like predator hiding from prey because if found, it will be caught by the silly humans.
you’re completely different from him, though. you’re as normal as a person can be, yet you aim to reach for the stars and hold it close to your heart. jamil understands your desire to outshine people all to well. he’s been in that spot, is in that spot. he pities you.
so he sticks around. he’d casually follow you, hang out whenever he can, help you with assignments so you can be the best version of yourself. he’s voraciously living through you. if you achieve your goals, that’s enough for him. at least he was apart of something meaningful for once.
it catches him off guard, however, when you encourage him to reach for his goals as well. it’s like you’re holding his hand and pull him amongst the galaxies to gently place your hands onto the hot touch of a star.
he knows that’s near impossible to reach, from the moment he was born, his life was chosen for him. but he thinks he could reach the small goals.
jamil secretly pats himself on the back for grazing against your skin for a second longer than usual, treat you to a nice meal or help you ace a test. he hopes that at least one of the goals he could reach in this lifetime is to be with you.
jamil is smart enough to know that he’s not just sick. not when blood trails down his chin to his arms, as flowers spill from inside him.
he thought that maybe, just maybe, he could have something for himself for once. not hold himself back, grasp tightly to what he wants the most.
jamil is smart enough to know his own worth. he’s definitely not worth enough to you.
silver
silver likes the little things. he enjoys the way birds chirp in the early morning, or the way the dandelion petals flow against the wind as he watches you scrunch your nose and blow on it. and then both of you guys start sneezing. ah, summer pollen, a reminiscent part of nature.
he loves the way you hold your pencil, the way you like to tie your shoelaces, how you cut your sandwiches. these small, unnoticeable traits catch his eye quite often, and he’s developed a fondness for them.
he’s a man of little words. silver doesn’t talk much, so when he thinks of these things, he never says it out loud. maybe that’s why it took you so long to notice how he felt about you.
he was so calming, and so gentle, it tugged at your heart when he’d smile softly and tilt his head ever so slightly so the cute birds could carefully place a beautiful flower crown on his head. he’s so princely, you think. a perfect knight in shining armour, loved even by the nature.
often you’d tell him how lucky any girl would be to be loved by him. your comments made silver hopeful.
silver is a man of little words, he likes to spend his days watching rather than showing. when he does finally speak his true thoughts, he genuine, honest. his words roll off his tongue so easily and smoothly, perfect fit for such a princely man (as you call him)
so when silver does finally open his mouth to speak, talk, say of what he felt in that very moment, he throat closed up. maybe he was nervous, maybe he was lame, because to both of your guy’s horror, blood spilled.
he didn’t really know what was happening. only when he felt the urge to throw up in the infirmary did he realize what was going on.
he was familiar with hanahaki. his father always told him stories of how fae would love so strongly to humans who hated them, that those who were unlucky would be induced to vomiting flowers.
when silver thought he was fae, just like his sweet old father, silver swore to himself that he’ll never love a human. now that he knows that he is, in fact, human, silver starts to doubt himself. maybe is, in a way, a fae.
it’s alright, though. silver is man of few words. he likes to watch rather than show. he doesn’t mind what could happen to him, he won’t tell anyone. he’ll just watch you from afar, filling his heart with melancholy love until he reaches his end. which might be soon, for he loves you so strongly.
a.n: my phone is on 6% as I type this I will edit this tomorrow morning when I wake up. sorry for replying so late I had tests coming up and I had to study!!! </3 thank you so much for the kind comments and I’ll catch up to requests soon! feel free leave any requests :3

Valentine’s Day Satosugu hcs bc what’s my life anymore
High school edition - I like to think they’ve done something about their crush in their adult days.
Suguru receives more in-person confessions while Satoru gets only love letters (and none of them is in Suguru’s handwriting, which is, uhm, annoying? It’s their third year and Gojo should have a collection of love letters from Getou, but whatever)
Getou does buy Gojo some chocolate but holds it until they’ve finished their club activities. It’s not fancy chocolate or anything valentine themed because that would be too exposing, it’s just a chocolate bar with candies in it which would kill anyone but Satoru (not that Satoru hasn’t spend the day eating chocolate, anyway, but he was so pissed off when he didn’t get any from Suguru in their first year and because of that someone started a dating rumor so he’s not revisiting that failure)
I like to think Gojo would have a school fan club as in all best early 2000s shoujo manga and that they would do something hugely over the top for Valentine’s Day idk maybe they’ll have a special Valentine’s Day photocard of him or have a cardboard Gojo somewhere in their club room. They let other students use it for darts - and teachers, too, especially assistant teacher/trainee Utahime.
Gojo did get a in-person confession by a very brave girl that year (because third year, last chance to confess etc) but Suguru interrupted because, well, it was fun to see Satoru turning pink as he candidly said “I thought you wanted to do something for our anniversary?” letting the poor girl die on the spot and run away. That do fuel the dating rumours
“anniversary of what, pry tell” “of our fake dating rumor” Gojo kicks a peddle so HARD when walking home with Getou that’s, frankly, unfair on the peddle - it was just minding its business on the road and didn’t want to end in someone else’s garden.
Getou takes him to the arcade even if it’s too late to be out (they have homework to do) and pays for his first round of games so that Gojo could stop pouting at him. He tries to ignore how it makes him feel that Gojo was maybe interested in going out with a random (but brave) girl he never spoke with.
They end up at the Karaoke place after that. It’s all v nice and fun except that Shoko is not with them and someone might mistake that for a date if it weren’t that they’re best friends and all. No date, only friends. It does look like a date tho.
They almost accidentally kiss during Karaoke. In a bro way.
Btw I also think that Gojo would be annoying about his love letters and how popular he is and at all the little things and bits of chocolate he’d receive. Not in an asshole way, more in an obvious kind of way. He keeps some of the funny letters too, sometimes reads them out loud to Suguru when they’re alone, saying “damn this girl has fine fine taste, when are you writing a poem about my eyes? Uhm?”
There’s no sedating the dating rumors after this Valentine’s Day so Satoru knits him a scarf for White Day with the help of his fan club because he can get away with saying that it’s a practical joke. Since it’s Gojo, the scarf is perfect despite being the first and last thing Gojo knits. It’s weirdly thoughtful and misplaced in what Gojo is as a person so Getou gets incredibly flustered when he receives it. Gojo laughs at him and takes pictures.
They don’t ever talk about their almost accidental kiss until they actually, properly kiss in a not-bro way some months later. (Gojo says it out loud, not-bro, and Getou laughs on his neck so much he cries.)

https://www.tumblr.com/saturnssz/720548400842555392/just-a-little-observation-being-a-fan-of-this
I find this post hilarious. Because it first I though it was a post about how both stereotypical version of Narusasu and Sasunaru are bad and embarrassing. But actually the OP just said "You see Sasunaru fans aren’t the same as in 2010. They don’t do stereotypical Sasunaru anymore. Whereas Narusasu fans, even now they’re still doing stupid stereotypical stuff. Sasunaru fans are an oppressed minority actually! I was a SNS fan before, but now I on,y support Sasunaru because of the mean Narusasu fans"
I wonder if they just don’t see how Sasunaru is the more mainstream version of the ship even today, how some Sasunaru fanfics authors still portrays Naruto as a shoujo protagonist and Sasuke as an agressive boyfriend, and how popular Naruto blogs out there continue to do stupid daddy jokes with Sasuke and consider Naruto like a self insert that all the boys of Konoha 12 wanted to sleep with… or if they just choose to ignore it and to be hypocritical on purpose.
Can’t they acknowledge that there can be biais on both sides??
yeah just go to ao3 and see if sasunaru fans aren’t the same anymore lol. like ok there are terrible narusasu fans (those ones that also ship itasasu or whatever) that also defends terrible portrayals that have nothing to do with naruto and sasuke but when you pick in character content, it’s always close to how normal narusasu stans portray them. like i said many times before, sasunaru stans want naruto to be the desired one who is chased by sasuke, and that goes essentially against the canon kishimoto wrote, that’s the most basic. this fandom is just a mess.

🎤 hello people of the internet ✦
I’m Scarlet Rose,
I’m a writer (somewhat) and (mostly) digital artist that has been drawing since I held an apsara pencil 💀.
You can see me as any gender you like and use any pronouns, I really couldn’t care less, I’m just here to have a little fun 👁👄👁
I am in a lot of fandoms (some breakups were there 😃)
Just to give a lil idea:
✦ Good omens (literally binge watched like yesterday 💀) (novel and tv show)
✦ Omniscient reader’s viewpoint (joined late 2022 and early 2023 I think 🤔) (novel and Webtoon)
✦ Undertale (since the beginning tbh but it’s a bit off rn lol 🙃) (Game)
✦ The Stanley parable (joined around the middle of 2023) (Game)
✦ Five nights at Freddy’s ( 💀 I’m a very loyal viewer of the game theorist… I don’t need to say more. Other then the fact that I’m not that active anymore) (Game, books, and movie)
✦ Heavens official blessing (joined around the middle of 2022 I think 👁👄👁) (novel, webtoon, and donghua)
✦ Not so Shoujo love (start of 2021, lmao much gayness 🫦) (Webtoon)
✦ Heartstopper (middle of 2022, so much fucking gayness 🤌) (Novel and webtoon)
✦ Uzumaki (I’m still reading this lmaoo, I think I started to read junji ito’s works around late 2018-19(?)) (manga)
✦ Hellstar Remina (🙂 it was funny as fuck, totally recommend) (manga)
✦ trash of counts family (around the time i started orv) (webnovel and manhwa)
✦ hazbin hotel/helluva boss (again, around the beginning. I dont really have an opinion on them.) (indie animated series on Yt and Amazon Prime)
There are many more but I literally can’t remember ‘cause I’m not actively active in them ig 😶‍🌫️
Anyway as you can see, I’m fine with literally any kind genre as long as the story is (mostly) interesting for my shit attention span.
Some bondaries (will be updated as I go on):
✦ No NSFW / no sexual themes
‣ I’m fine with jokes and shit, like have fun and all, but no sexualisation of me or my ocs. I’m fine with horror/ angst art (as long as it isn’t taken too far).
✦ Minors and majors/adults
‣ Please no pedophila. I do not want to be in any romantic relationships online (learn from my past one mistake of being fucking delusional)
‣ I do wish to be ageless online for now, so yeah…
✦ No weird dms
‣ I’ll fucking ban you and probably make fun of you publicly.
‣ Weird dms include (but aren’t limited to): asking sexual stuff, death threats, obsessive behaviour etc.
✦ Personal issues
‣ Don’t come at me with your severely personal issues, such as family issues, life issues or whatever. Just cause I’m fine with taking ‘bout mental health and its severities doesn’t mean I’m responsible of your mental health in any way. Don’t talk to me or anyone online, talk to someone you trust irl and take therapy.
✦ Stalking/ doxxing
‣ Doesn’t matter if it’s me or not, you need grass for doing some chronically online bullshit. Go outside man or ma’am or neuter.
✦ Parasocial
‣ No, just no.
‣ I’m fine with the buddy buddy shit but please refrain from thinking that I’m important in your life. I’m just here to have fun and cook bullshit. Nothing more.
✦ Shipping
‣ Don’t ship me with other creators or yourself (please).
‣ Don’t ship my ocs with yours.
‣ I’m fine with people shipping my ocs with eachother.
‣ I don’t mind fan fiction (I write most of my characters fan fiction anyways 💀) (you’re free to do whatever but please have some kind of common sense).
‣ Don’t fucking art police or ship police (?) people if non of my characters are being shipped in a borderline pedophilic or incest ships.
✦ Hating
‣ I don’t mind if you dislike or even hate me, you’re allowed to do whatever, but keep in mind that this is the internet and you hate me on the internet. Don’t take internet matters irl or attack anyone I know in real life.
‣ No racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, sexism, extremely offensive jokes (that actually harm people) etc. will be tolerated.
Ik that I am not that big at all, but better safe than sorry lol

hi! i would like to request some idia angst. the reader and him are in a very good relationship but all of a sudden the reader decides to break up. how would idia react to this, and is there any chance he could get them back?
One Way Or Another
Word count: 657
**Mild spoilers for Idia’s backstory in chapter 6**
A/N: So I totally could’ve written this as a headcanon because the format isn’t specified but I still haven’t emotionally recovered from chapter 6 yet, so I wanted to give Ortho a part in this and created a short scenario 😊 Plus, let’s just say this is a… um… wedding gift for Idia (see Ghost Marriage/Phantom Bride hahaha).
Tumblr media
“Why?”
The hands that grab your arm are small and metallic. The voice that asks for an explanation is young and desperate. The same cannot be said about his brother who you used to love, whose back turned against you, and all you can see is his long fiery hair laying heavily on his hunched shoulders.
“Just tell us why… I’m sure nii-san can fix it!” You feel that Ortho’s fingers are securing more tightly around your arm, he has every intention to physically pull you back if he sees a need to.
“Let them be, Ortho.” And as if Idia was thinking about the same possibility, he firmly tells Ortho to stop.
Idia turns to look at you but does not close the distance between you. He does not stutter, does not speak at an erratic speed, but you see him turning his toes inward, you see him digging his fingers into his elbow, you see all the signs of his apprehension that you know so well, “I don’t like outsiders in my room. Please see yourself out.”
You complied. You know what it means to be shut out of his room.
Inside, Idia sighs in a most normal manner. His half-lidded eyes look as exhausted as usual when he throws himself on his gamer chair, puts his feet on the seat and props his head on his knees. He haphazardly changes his desktop wallpaper back to default just so you’re not there anymore.
Ortho examines the footage he caught of the wallpaper before it was removed.
Your face. His big brother’s face.
「Happy」
He likes that picture. It was, by calculation of probability, a very rare shot. It’s not every day that his big brother looks so
「very happy」
He doesn’t exactly have the words for it.
「Delighted」「Elated」「Blissful」
He knows a word that could apply to when Idia is with him wouldn’t suffice for when Idia was with you.
“Nii-san…” he floats to Idia in concern, “Are you sure this is okay? According to your physiological responses, you don’t seem to ‘like’ them any less than—“
“It’s enough.”
“Aah… I’m sorry if I said too much…“
“No,” Idia pats his little brother’s head gently, “I mean, I’ve had enough. It’s a good time to end.”
The young humanoid has no means to find out why, but his brother’s calmness makes him more uneasy than he had expected it would. “Nii-san… you don’t mean…”
“It’s just a spark between two high school students. This isn’t some romance shoujo manga, it’s just bound to end somehow.” Idia shrugs it off.
Somehow. One way or another.
If you hadn’t say it, one day he would be the one to say it. He knows too well what his cursed bloodline entails. This is as far as his freedom goes.
Yes, he is grateful you showed him a world so wide, so full of novelty and possibility. But he could never have climbed up to this world and dwell in it with you anyway, so nothing is lost when you take it from him.
Even if you had the key to his closed off heart, you had never had the key to the shackle on his legs. But for what you have done for him, he thinks you’ve done plenty.
He’s satisfied with the adventure.
“There are always new encounters in life, Ortho,” Idia tries to frame it in a way that his little brother would accept, “The legendary hero found his happy ending with his love. But in real life, our stories don’t have to end like that.”
And Ortho does, “Mm… if you say so. We can always go on another adventure again, together!”
Idia nods weakly. Brightly, steadily, cruelly, his blue hair continues to burn as he lightly seals the lock you had unlocked once again. He won’t let anyone touch it by mistake this time.
He’s satisfied with the adventure. Now it’s time to go home.

My thoughts about Princess Peach character in the upcoming Mario Movie
I don't usually like to vent about media. I feel like it's pointless rambling most of the time. In the past I did twice and both times defending characters widely hated in their respective fandoms, one of these being Princess Peach.
I'm a fan of Peach as first as I saw her in my very first Mario game, when I was a kid: she was always a role model to me as she was one of the few characters who I saw overcome their physical weaknesses with great emotional strengths. Princess Peach is an unapologetically classy and feminine girl capable of a great spectrum of emotions and even capable of using them to protect herself. I always saw the Princess, at the contrary of what I read everywhere on the Internet, as a complex and unique character. The only thing she ever needs is a more consistent writing to fully showcase her awesomeness.
Tumblr media
So, I have a lot of contrasting feelings with how she seems to be portrayed by the trailer of the upcoming movie.
Her character design is GORGEOUS, and her dress seems so floaty and cute: maybe her face needs a slight touch up but she looks cute nonetheless. I won’t express myself on Anya Taylor-Joy’s voice acting, since I’m not an expert in the matter nor I’ve seen her previous roles to compare her voice range.
Seeing the princess leading her reign melted my heart, so seeing her training Mario and joining him on adventure! It's I always liked to see her more of these moments in the games. I’m looking forward to see how the Princess and the Plumber’s relationship will be handled, it seems to have quite the potential.
Tumblr media
But I admit I was kind of disappointed by how the trailer seems to depict Peach almost as a... soulless contemporary female lead role deprived of a lot of things that made her compelling in the videogames. This may be an hot take but I hope that the halberd scene will only be relegated a gag or some character's power fantasy: the one depicted in that scene didn’t resemble Peach at all, instead she seems an impersonator of hers. Peach is the kind of person who despite she can actually fight, she wouldn’t use any conventional weapons and would instead be happy to fight in a dress and a parasol.
In general, Princess Peach can have everything that could make an unique AND strong character: imagine a bubbly and kind princess, who likes to bake cakes and is somewhat naïve but when she's in danger she could lead a reign and she would fight, with pans and literally anything she picks on the ground. This is Peach: she doesn’t have to be kidnapped anymore but she needs  to retain these strong feminine attributes that help her facing her situations, like a mahou shoujo, a Disney/Barbie princess or a Ghibli Movie heroine.
We must, everyone in this site, in the Internet, the society as a whole, needs to aknowledge that like there isn’t a single type of intelligence, there are multiple types to strenghts as well, emotional being one of them.
Tumblr media
Also, repeat with me: FEMININITY IS NOT WEAKNESS.
This may be an extremely hot take but giving masculine outfits or weapons DON’T give automatically a personality to a character. Instead, it almost looks that the writers want to deprive women (also men and everyone who don’t feel neither) of traditional femininity in order to be accepted by society while it’s just as valuable as virility. It’s just a way to express oneself that shouldn’t be shunned upon. I don't mean to hate to actual tomboys, though, as everyone deserves to be happy in their own skin and I also like fictional ones, like Daisy.
Peach is the type of character who can perfectly lead the kingdom with a whole lot of tact and intelligence, the Princess is perfectly fight for her kingdom, despite her physical weakness, as she is selfless enough to be willing to sacrifice herself for them. No need to ripped cloth, no pants. no need to show over the top weapons. Her sweet personality speaks for herself. Remaining kind and empathetic while in difficult situations is as strong as slaying thousands thousands as enemy: sometimes violence isn’t even a solution to an actual problem.
Tumblr media
I hope to see this post age like milk: luckily, already from the trailer, we’ll see Peach using some of her traditional means to pave her way through the Mushroom Kingdom and I hope that this trailer would be assembled for the specific purpose to not turn off the probable person who dislike Peach’s personality in the games. Actually it seem that the scene I was heavily criticising is quite disconnected by the rest of the trailer, so I second the possibility of a one moment gag. At least, we’re seeing Peach in her suit in its rightful context again in the Mario Kart segment.
In general, I prefer to keep a cautiously optimistic stance on the matter, until I’m definitely proven otherwise.
I’m sorry to had to ramble that much, Princess Peach is one topic I feel strongly about. I may delete this post later.

In my attempt to do a spoiler-free review...
If I'm being honest... If I could go back in time... I'd tell myself not to watch this anime, which looks crazy since I was freaking out through most of it
Now it ticked lots of boxes before I went into it, but for it to tick even more when the anime already seemed perfect was incredible. So it ticked an extra three boxes. One of the before I watched it moments being that, I literally had only just made a rant about BL and how that label should be removed from animes and like, y'know, let us be surprised if the main character ends up in a same-sex relationship. Don't spoil it with the BL tag. But I'd made the Banana Fish post a month before that rant. I'd listed the Banana Fish genres, already hyped at it being a shoujo, made by a woman, with the delinquent/crime/psychological genres.
1. And so therefore, I did not go into this knowing that... it would end up being a BL. And anyone that tries to deny it was a BL is actually insane. The author could try and tell me this gay as fuck anime wasn't a BL and I wouldn't believe it (whether she has or not idk). Fucking heart emojis coming outta these fuckers eyes whenever they're in the vicinity of each other. I didn't screenshot the majority of it bc I'd too many screenshots. So yeah, this anime basically... did the exact thing I wanted in my rant. It's honestly the weirdest and most perfect timing. Legit shocked at the gay that happened in an anime not labelled as BL. I'm still not over it
2.
Takahiro Kagami was the key animator. The animation director most known for YGO's signature style. YGO at its most beautiful. The guy who created Joey's chin. The animator they called back to animate DSOD and gave Joey his most perfect look
Tumblr media
So I learn just before watching this anime that made me think of Joey in the first place, that Joey's key animator was working on this show? Incredible.
3.
Joey's S!0 VA comes in as our main dudes trainer/mentor, who taught him how to fight and shoot. Like, I been comparing him to Joey the whole time and Joey appears?? What sorcery is this??????
So with the boxes out of the way, I'll list the positives outside of that:
Voice acting was fine, but the MC has risen up the ranks for me and this is my second time hearing him as a main character. Before that he was a side character in animes I barely remember. Actually I just finished Starmyu again and I think he was one of the less memorable characters (ok just checked and yes, also he was a little gay in that, he's always gay that's crazy). But he was fantastic, a scene stealer.
The animation was stunning (as expected). And it being set in New York added so much to that appeal. The action scenes... yes.
And for 24 eps it had a decent pace, I had a few days off so just binged it but took a lot of breaks (even tho it may not look like it lmao).
I had some good ass laughs.
Onto the negatives...
Now... this anime is rated an 8.5 and its very popular.
I rated it a 7.
So I decided on the 8 rating about a third of the way into the anime. It had the potential to be higher but... the anime got sloppy and repetitive. Super repetitive. And it drags, quite a bit. But bc of all the positives, I was like "ah... its going downhill a little but I'll still give it an 8."
Then something happened. And I... just couldn't give it that 8 anymore. What happened infuriated me. There's animes that can do what happened well, and I'll be upset but like, get it. Not in this one. I had to pause and breathe for about 3 mins before pressing play again.
Others may rate this anime low due to how triggering it can get. It didn't trigger me in any way but I can see how it could. The MC goes through a lot. I just wanted to protect him.
But uh, yeah. Due to the thing that happened I'd honestly rather have not watched this show. It kinda erased all the joyous, positive things that happened throughout, in a way. Idk. I need more time to sit on it.
Yeah... idk what else to say. I'm in limbo right now

" Mudano gives Jin relationship advice.
alternative title: mudano being the father who stepped up "
relationships: mudano & jin, background shiki/jin and mudano/kyoya tws: none! wc: 1042 extra: are there any tga fics on this website actually
read on ao3!
Shiki had been gone for a while. Where? Who knew. Jin certainly didn’t. And he didn’t care either. All that meant was that he finally had some peace and quiet in his tiny dorm room, and he was more than glad about that.
Well. He had peace and quiet, until knocks sounded against the door. A few seconds passed. He was about to choose to ignore whoever was outside, when a voice called out his name.
“Kougasaki? Are you in here?”
Mudano. Jin rolled his eyes. Great, now he couldn’t ignore whoever was outside. He sat up and walked to the door, grabbing his face mask from his bedside table and pulling it on - it was a useless gesture by now, really, everyone knew about his scars, especially Mudano, but it made him feel more comfortable.
His teacher stood in the doorway, his arms crossed over his chest, his facial expression barely twitching as the door opened and the blond appeared in front of him. A silent tilt of the head, as Jin wondered what had brought Mudano over to his room.
“Do you have time to speak? This isn’t related to school, or anything. I just have something to tell you.”
Jin frowned. Sure. Wasn’t worrisome at all. He shrugged and moved out of the way, inviting Mudano into the room. A second later and he was closing the door again, sitting on his bed as the teacher sat on the desk chair closest to him.
Jin sat there in silence, waiting for Mudano to speak. It was unusual to see Mudano short for words - yet the ever so mysterious teacher was staring at the ground and seemingly in deep thought, playing with that ring on his hand. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally spoke up.
“I’m just gonna cut straight to the chase. You like Ichinose, don’t you? Romantically.”
Jin almost choked on air. He coughed several times to adjust himself, and could feel his face heating up - oh god, he must be turning pink.
Mudano waited in silence for Jin to come back to a composed state of self. As the blond took a few deep breaths, he looked back at his teacher and answered.
“Maybe. Yes. What about it?”
Jin cringed at himself. This was the first time he’d admitted it out loud, so it made sense for him to be embarrassed about it; still, that didn’t make it any less humiliating. Mudano kept the silence going for a little while.
“What I’m about to tell you, I say from experience. Don’t give up on him while you still have a chance.”
Jin’s eyebrows furrowed. Where was this coming from?? Was Mudano, his teacher , seriously giving him love advice? About Ichinose Shiki of all people? He must have been dreaming.
He pinched himself. No, very much awake. Somehow that didn’t comfort him in the slightest.
His confusion must’ve been visible, for Mudano decided to go on without waiting for a verbal answer.
“I know you might think that it’s not worth it, or that you still have time to make up your mind. But that’s unfortunately not true. I’m not… implying that either of you will die, even though that’s a very real possibility, but in general. You may not have the same dreams. You may not follow the same paths. Kougasaki, what I’m telling you is to make sure that even if Ichinose isn’t part of your life anymore, you won’t have any regrets.”
Perhaps the dream option wasn’t so far off after all.
Jin blinked. Twice. Thrice. He processed Mudano’s words. Realistically, he had a point - he might regret not ever confessing to Shiki. It had been a recurring plot point in all those shoujo manga Byobugaura liked to read.
Still, Jin wasn’t really a romantic guy. Nor was he really a fan of anything related to emotions, really - which is why Shiki got on his nerves so often. He kept causing Jin to have so many feelings all the time and it made him sick.
At some point, he realized he was still staring at Mudano in silence. He shook his head to clear his mind, and responded.
“Assuming I agree with that - wouldn’t that possibly cause more problems? In case Shiki doesn’t feel the same, wouldn’t cohabitation with him become awkward?”
Jin voiced what he thought to be purely logical and coherent thoughts, and yet was only met by Mudano’s deadpan stare and a raised eyebrow.
“That kid’s head over heels for you. It’s honestly a surprise he hasn’t confessed yet, but I assume that’s just because he doesn’t even realize he’s into you.”
Jin’s eyes widened and his mouth fell slightly open, surprise etching his features. He figured Shiki would rather be the type to be visibly obvious when in love; but perhaps he simply didn’t notice, being the subject of his affections.
He heard Mudano sigh, a sign that he was about to speak again.
“Seriously, though. Like I said, I’m speaking from experience. I also thought I didn’t need to confess, and kept making excuses not to, until I almost lost him.”
He probably meant Oiranzaka, Jin thought. Mudano waved the back of his left hand at him, the shiny wedding band catching the light of the room.
“It felt awful. I regretted not keeping him closer for years. And I see my younger self in you, at least in this case. Don’t make the mistakes I did.”
At some point, the chair Mudano was sitting in had moved close enough for the teacher to only be at an arm’s reach from Jin. The student felt a hand on his head - a gentle caress, tender and caring, accompanied with a rare smile from his teacher. Jin almost teared up. This felt closer to paternal love than he had ever received from his actual father.
“Got it?”
Jin nodded.
“I’ve got it. I’ll think about it.”
Mudano hummed in approval, standing back up - and Jin would almost complain at the loss of the affectionate touch. Still, he tried not to think about it too much.
Mudano soon left the room, and left Jin to stare at the bottom of the top bunk in deep thought.
He’d consider confessing to Shiki.

You bounced the ball in frustration after Karasuno lost to Seijou. The third years thought they were going to be at the Spring Tournament but Karasuno lost so they haven’t dropped by the 2nd gymnasium. You, along with your fellow first years and second years, are anxious whether they’d stay in the club. Truth is, you have this fear of getting hit by a ball ever since a dodgeball game back in elementary. You ended up going home with tissues shoved in your nostrils because of a nose bleed.
Ever since joining the club though, you got a bit braver. Maybe it’s the thing cloying at your chest, your pitiful unrequited crush on Tsukishima, or the fact Karasuno failed to participate in the Spring tournament, you thought maybe getting hit by the ball in the face isn’t so bad anymore.
“Oi.”
You bounce the ball harder.
“Mascot.”
Speak of the devil, you catch the ball and cradled it with one arm on your hip as you turn around. “What?”
“School’s over.”
“I know.”
“Why’re you still here?”
“I’m joining the girl’s volleyball club, haven’t you heard?”
“As a mascot?”
You roll your eyes. “As the club advisor.” Your voice dripped in sarcasm.
He gestures for you to toss the ball at him and before you knew it, you and Tsukishima volley the ball to each other back and forth.
“You’re leaving too?”
“I’m not leaving. And don’t say that, our senpais could change their minds. There’s no way they could just leave the club without giving their all. It’s not fair. Nishinoya-senpai has a whole lot more to offer. Kageyama could learn a lot from Suga-senpai’s leadership skills. I won’t let them quit the club, I’ll camp Suga-senpai’s class room and convince them to stay.”
“Why Suga-senpai?”
You make a noise of frustration when your receive made the ball too high up. Tsukishima jumps a little and makes a passable toss at you. “I never realized how much Suga-senpai has influence on the whole club until the match against Seijou. Not to mention, he was cool, I kept looking over him and he was so impressive. I also want to wipe Seijou’s ball captain to the floor. He was so smug, but I guess with his skill, he should be smug about it. Still, Suga-senpai is the best.”
Tsukishima makes a wolf whistle, “The mascot and our captain: a shoujo manga, huh?”
His teasing pissed you off, so you attempted to perform a spike which he easily caught. “I don’t have a crush on Suga-senpai.”
He pushed his glasses up. “So you say.”
“So you say.” You mocked. “You’re so annoying. Why am I even talking to you? I like the moon, alright?”
“The moon?”
You give him a firm nod. “I like the moon.” Kami-sama, was Tsuki dense.
“You’re so weird.”
You shrugged and walk away. “So you say. Kageyama and Hinata’ll be here soon. You should practice with them. They’re frustrated too.”
---
“Why did you turn down Hinata and Kageyama’s request?”
Tsukishima pointedly ignored your question as he sipped on his orange juice.
“You know because you turned them down, Yachi offered to tutor them?”
He gives you a stoic stare, sipping still. “And your point is?”
“Because instead of annoying me during class breaks, you could be with Yachi tutoring them.” You push his head away from your desk. “Go away, I need to write some mock quizzes.”
“What, you need help with your grades too?”
“I’m not smart.” You chewed your bottom lip nervously. “So I need to study. I retain memory better when I do it this way. Plus, maybe Kageyama and Hinata are the same. I can give this to them when I’m done.”
His eyes soften at that and then he pats your head. “You’re a good kid, aren’t you?”
Your cheeks turned hot in a second. “Yeah, yeah.”
---
‘I like the moon.’
You screamed into your pillow.
Really? Did you really say that? You like the moon? You could do better than that!
You kicked your feet in rapid motions like you do when you swam as a kid. The embarrassment was unbearable.
Could you really be more obvious than that?
‘I like the moon.’
Suki. Like. Suki. Moon. Tsuki. Tsukishima.
‘I like the moon.’
‘I like Tsuki.’
‘I like you, damn four-eyes.’
You wish you could shut your brain off.
---
You stare at the poster Yachi did for the club and a wave of envy washed over you, the next you felt guilt and ashamed for feeling that way. Yachi’s cute. Yachi’s talented. Yachi’s nice. A second “Small Giant.” It was a picture of Hinata doing his jump spike. The crows soar toward the nationals once more. Donations received will be used for: away games, training camp, travel expenses, food expenses, and lodging expenses. For information, contact Karasuno High School boys’ volleyball club faculty advisor Takeda.  It was a poster asking for donations. This was a whole lot more useful and impressive than you being a mascot. You suddenly feel like an idiot. This is amazing for the club, right? So how come you feel so much worse?
Tears pooled at the corner of your eyes and your lips trembled. You let out a small hiss to reprimand yourself. No wonder Tsukishima likes her. You don’t think you have it in you to attend club that day.
Tumblr media
This is ridiculous, you’re being weird. Be happy for the club.
---
AN: Legit winging this. Don’t  have any plans for this but let the writing gods and idea gods to take the wheel and possess me for more parts I guess

Spring 2023 Anime Roundup
Tumblr media
Anime of the Season – Skip and Loafer
It’s rare enough for a manga I read and love to get an anime adaptation, and to have a top-tier studio adapt it is even rarer still, so this adaptation of one of my very favorite series by P.A. Works, a studio that only makes bangers, is pretty much a dream come true. The strength of the series is in its writing, especially in how it writes characters who appear to be common archetypes, but eventually show themselves to be individuals who are neither too good nor completely bad. This would have likely stood out no matter who adapted it, and made for an enjoyable story, but luckily it was adapted by a director who nailed the wistful watercolor art style of the manga, and framed and lit the scenes perfectly, taking this to another level entirely. The end result is a series about two very different kids – an awkward, overachieving girl from the sticks and an easy-going, charismatic city boy – that shows how high school can be bewildering, magical, and life-changing all at the same time. 10/10
Tumblr media
First Runner-Up – Vinland Saga S2
This season was the masterful payoff for every frustrating thing Thorfinn did in season one. It was obvious then that he was making terrible decisions because of his youth and his trauma, and this season of farming as a slave on a Danish farm was all about him beginning to understand what he’d done and the incredibly difficult process of atonement he has in front of him. 9/10
Tumblr media
Second Runner-Up – My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999
You know we’re in a sort of shoujo anime renaissance when you see the names Morio Asaka and Madhouse together again, and this series did not disappoint. Akane was a delightfully messy heroine, and it was a ton of fun to watch outwardly stoic gamer Yamada slowly catch feelings for the agent of chaos that stumbled into his life. 8/10
The Dangers in My Heart – When this opened up with the male lead saying he wanted to hurt the prettiest girl in class and see her in tears, I was a little concerned about what I was getting into, but it quickly became evident that it was a clever story about a middle-school edgelord figuring out that he just had a normal-ass crush on a girl and deciding to shed parts of his tweenage identity that don’t suit him anymore. 8/10
Golden Kamuy S4 – One part period drama, one part crime thriller, and one part black and/or blue comedy, there really is nothing else quite like this show in anime. It’s nothing short of masterful how it handles multiple crews of questionable dudes all trying to outwit each other while cracking the most irreverent jokes along the way. 8/10
Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ Story S2 – While this season was not quite as balls-to-the-wall audacious as the first season, it was still a high-octane sports anime about girls playing golf in international tournaments under the thumb of mafia and business organizations, with a liberal sprinkling of Gundam references, and I’ll take all the intense girls’ sports anime they’ll give me. 8/10
Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion – It will eat away at me until the day I die that they gave this top-tier romantic suspense manhwa adaptation to a fourth-rate studio that couldn’t animate or storyboard to save its life. Raeliana is a fantastic self-saving heroine, Noah is the perfect sarcastic love interest, and the art was beautiful, but, goddamn, that animation was not good. 8/10
My Clueless First Friend – On first glance, this looks like just another school-set shounen romcom that pairs an aggressive character with one who just blushes, but a couple episodes in it shows some real emotional depth that sets it apart. If the male lead is this dedicated to hyping up his best girl while he’s in elementary school, he’s going to be a force of nature later. 7/10
Insomniacs After School – There was a lot I loved about this series. The way the male and female leads connected over their shared struggle with insomnia was really satisfying to watch, and I loved seeing them be physically affectionate with each other. It just lacked any soaring moments to truly wow me. 7/10
The Ancient Magus’ Bride S2 – When I saw that this season took place in a school for young magicians and sorcerers in England, I have to admit that I rolled my eyes a bit, but it introduced a good crop of unique characters and seems to be building up to a meaty conflict for cour two in the fall. 7/10
Hell’s Paradise – I really enjoyed the visuals and many of the colorful characters in this supernatural-tinged action adventure, but something I can’t quite put my finger on in the writing kept me from really getting into it. 7/10
Otaku Elf – This was a perfectly pleasant little slice of life about an elf woman who has been living in Japan since the Edo era and is currently enshrined as a local temple’s god. The conversations about history and present day nerdery between the elf and her helper were really charming. 7/10
Dead Mount Death Play – You don’t see reverse isekai all that often, and this is having some fun with the idea, as the isekaied necromancer archvillain transported to Japan might be one of the least evil characters in the story. 7/10
Dr. Stone: New World – I enjoy this series less and less with each subsequent season, as it becomes more and more blatant that science is for boys and cooking and sewing are for girls. Their adventure across the sea is still entertaining enough, but the worldview is grating. 7/10
KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World – There were a number of novel and creative ideas in this isekai story about the son of a cult leader getting sent to a world without gods and proceeding to build power via religious techniques, but the story wasn’t really coherent, and while the production lampshaded its shortcomings, they were still shortcomings. A whole mess, but an entertaining mess. 6/10
The Legendary Hero Is Dead! – I generally give anything tagged as ecchi a hard pass, but the opening theme song was catchy and the premise sounded kind of fun, so I gave it a try. I mostly enjoyed myself, but the story didn’t always make sense, and there were too many thigh gaps for a show centered on a leg guy. 6/10
A Galaxy Next Door – This romance featuring a shoujo mangaka and his assistant wasn’t bad, but the story was so frictionless, the characters were so well-behaved, and the voice actors sounded so much like customer service reps, that there was nothing to really hook me. 6/10
Oshi No Ko – I’ve been fascinated by the reaction to this show as some sort of masterpiece, as I found it deeply mediocre. It couldn’t decide if it was trying to be a revenge fantasy, a murder mystery, or a showbiz drama, and the infodumping via the dialogue was egregious. Each episode left me wanting to rewatch Idolish7. 6/10
Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible – This was just one of those romcoms about a nondescript boy who attracts the persistent attention of a pretty girl that was neither good nor bad. Additionally, it had a frustrating tendency to explain to the viewer with dialogue what was already apparent via the action instead of trusting the viewer. 6/10
Too Cute Crisis – I can’t decide if the problem with this show about invading aliens waylaid by cute animals was a matter of directing or of writing, but it lacked the proper build up and comedic timing for the jokes and relied too heavily on the actors yelling the punchline to get a laugh. 6/10
Mashle: Magic and Muscles – On paper, this shounen comedy about a boy without magic dominating a magic high school really sounded like my kind of thing. In practice, however, none of the jokes landed for me and the fights were tediously boring. 5/10
Magical Destroyers – This gritty magical girl show set in a world where otaku are systematically oppressed by the government is every bit as shallow and undercooked as the premise sounds, and the visuals are not special enough to redeem it. The creator came up with the idea in high school, and it shows. 4/10

The best way I can describe Nanoha’s first season is that it’s a good show clawing its way out of the corpse of a bad one. At the start, it’s still tied to the world and characters of the VN it spun off from, and to put it mildly, that world and those characters feel like the most boring things in existence. Almost nothing having to do with Nanoha’s family, school life, or “normal” supporting cast had any life in it (with the exception of Alisa, who was okay). But from the second Fate shows up, Nanoha’s true form begins to emerge. The more it layers on the high-concept magitech, the more it focuses on the characters directly involved with the sci-fi plot, the more it centers Fate and her trauma at the core of its emotional narrative... slowly but surely, the show known as Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha breaks free from its dull birthplace and becomes something entirely its own. And by the time this season’s over, the chains that once held it back barely even exist anymore.
To be honest, I’m having a hard time describing why Nanoha works as well as it does. On the surface, it’s the same kind of pulpy urban fantasy schlock that defined YA anime of its era, no more inspired than Shakugan no Shana. But for some reason, the way its component parts click together results in a far more engrossing story than most of its contemporaries. Maybe it’s the consistently excellent action, maybe it’s how it knows not to dwell on boring mechanics and put the main focus on the characters’ emotions, maybe it’s just how damn good NanoFate turned out. But whatever the reason, I cared about this story. I cared about seeing Nanoha and Fate come out okay. And while I could never recommend this show without some massive caveats (there really are so few fanservice moments, but they cast such a long shadow), I’m so happy this experiment turned out as well as it did.
For now, though, I’m going to give Nanoha’s first season a score of 5.5/10. It’s good, but held back by shaking off the cobwebs of its former self; now that it’s become its own thing, I suspect it’s only going to get better and better from here. And if this season’s final scene is anything to go by, we’re in for some truly incredible things to come. Cheers to you, Nanoha; I can’t wait to see what else you have in store. First, though? I’ve got another show to check out. Don’t forget to vote in my poll so you can decide what I’m gonna watch before getting to A’s!

Story under cut!
Made with short prompt suggestions from @fenharael @mintythesweettooth @omelevate and @iinsectaa
“Fi, are you sure this is the way to Pumpkin Con? We’re in the middle of the woods and I don’t even see the festival grounds anymore.” said Dime.
“Uhh, yeah. There was a sign like 20 mins back that pointed at a building saying that was where Pumpkin Con was but that doesn’t make sense like what kinda Pumpkin Con takes place indoors? Plus it’s an escape room so obviously it was trying to mislead us.”
“…Fi.”
“Dime.”
“We already beat the escape room like an hour ago!”
Fi paused and was seemingly trying to hide something behind her back.
“Mmmm. I wish you told me that earlier. I sorta searched some dude’s carriage cuz I thought it’d have some clues or something on how to escape this maze. In hindsight I’m seeing that I got us lost and also this thing is way too fancy to be a prop.”
She held up a thick book made up leather that radiated a faint purple glimmer.
“Holy shit. Yeah that’s fancy alright.” Dime said.
“I opened it to see if it’d have any clues or directions to the con but none of them really make sense. Like what does mooaloomoo even mean?” Fi asked.
As she spoke the words, the aura around the book grew and briefly extended as far as they could see before returning back to its small glow.
They paused and looked at each other.
“Okay that didn’t look like directions to me.” said Fi.
“So. Shall we run?” asked Dime.
“Ya.”
The two dashed toward the direction they came from, hoping to not have forgotten any steps but it was a bit difficult to recall which way they headed in the woods.
Fi tried to check her phone but her battery was already at 1% and what if she needed it for more important things like keeping a Snapchat streak?
Dime was also the owner of a dead phone, with their only hope being able to remember the way back.
But neither of them could remember. They were beginning to lose hope and accept that they will miss that day’s Pumpkin Con. At the height of their despair, that’s when they heard a voice.
“Moo?”
It was a cow. Then another. Ten cows?
Fi and Dime were surrounded by cows and the herd seems to be attached to them. One walked up to Fi and rubbed its head on her.
Another started sniffing Dime’s hand and licking them.
“The book did this? Pretty cool but I can’t imagine what magician would need this spell.” said Dine.
“Okay but like.. I love this and I might do this too all the time.” Fi replied.
“That’s true it is kind of lovely. Be better if we weren’t lost though.”
The cows seemed to look at the two of them with concern. They understood the sentiments of the two!
“Hey Dime, you know what Pumpkin Con has a lot of? Cows of course! Maybe these guys can lead us back there! And also maybe love us enough to hide the fact that I stole this book from someone!”

YOU DIDNT LIKE AO HARU RIDE??? KOU THO?? OR DANGEKI DAISY??? tbh the plot was kinda ass and super convoluted n i think i remember the ending letting me down BUT THAT MAIN GUY WAS SOOOO CUTE THO???? the fact that u liked soredemo sekai wa utsukushii is so funny tho because i feel like not a lot of ppl have watched that one and liked or just watched at all!! i don’t even remember the ending did they end up together?? he was like some middle schooler wasn’t he? whjwkeke but yea i get where ur coming from i think i just kinda have tunnel vision when i see a hot guy😔 did u at least like maid sama?? ALSO i’ll def check out the recommendations u gave out i saved them up in my notes already i’m excited to start reading them and i’m glad u ended up liking kamisama kiss too!!! btw i was reading a webtoon which i think u might like ‘after school lessons for unripe apples’ i saw u mentioned smt about not liking a sugar apple shojo n i freaked out thinking u meant this one wiwjejek it’s SUPER SUPER sweet like yamada one vibes but like a lil bit (a lot) more wholesome check it out if ur ever interested!!
also i wanted to ask u about howd u like the succesion finale but i didn’t wanna bombard u with asks WHATD U THINK!!
i knowww my friend was obsessed with ao haru ride but i thought it was BORING. and i know we were in that era of having quirky heroines but all of them were quirky with no substance. i just never got into it. and as for dengeki daisy i dont think i liked the art lmaooo and i am very particular about my shoujo art. but i do like the mangaka's new manga queen's quality a lot!!!! definitely a jump in quality from dd. i did rlly like soredemo sekai wa utsukushii but it wasn't really for the romance. like yes the ML was a child but im pretty sure they were only like 3-4 years apart? both children tbh. but i think i liked the plot more than other shoujos at the time and nike was actually interesting. i DID like maid-sama....ik it's problematic but my nostalgia lenses are ON.
I LOVE AFTER SCHOOL LESSONS FOR UNRIPE APPLES. THEY ARE SO CUTE. i haven't been able to catch up yet but i am on like chapter 20. i loveeeeee them.
SUCCESSION ENDING SPOILERS:
okay im glad shiv ended up breaking the cycle (for roman and kendall) but it's heartbreaking how she got mom'd. like.....i know she made tom into the man she wanted him to be so that's technically a W but she's been relegated into being a wife. she's pregnant!!! standing behind a man!!!! but let's be real like shiv was never going to get it lmao and it KILLS me because if she had been a man it would've been her. like 100%. shiv overcompensates and talks too much and it's all stems from her never being taken seriously as a woman. like had she had the privilege of being a man in a male dominated world it would've been her!!!!!! she's logan's favorite. mattson wouldn't have wanted to fuck her (who knows). all three of the roy siblings self sabotage in different ways, but the fact that shiv's comes from her insecurities is so heartbreaking. also i watched the ending commentary and one of the directors (i think) talked about how in the end none of them would ultimately be logan's successor because they'd never be able handle it. it was never going to be them. succession is a tragedy because when something happy and lighthearted happens you know something awful is going to follow. AND GOD. the scene where they swim and everything's happy that's when I KNEW it was going to end terribly. the roy siblings all united. it never would've gone well. it was never going to end well.
and kendall KENDALL. the poison drips. yes shiv was right kendall would have never been able to handle but if u think about the fact that he's been groomed into this position to continue the cycle of abuse (by logan who told him at SEVEN he was going to take over) he has nothing now! there's literally nothing for him anymore. this is what his life had been culminating towards and to have it all taken away. the part in the episode where shiv refuses to vote and kendall is literally like 'i might die' and then him denying point blank that he killed a man (DELUSIONAL). but also kendall recanting that confession a confession that bonded the siblings together in the last season. brought them together in a moment of genuine comfort and bonding. gone. gone. gone!!!!!
rome never wanted it in the first place but he just couldn't say it. he didn't want to be CEO he wanted logan's approval but logan's gone. he doesn't have logan's approval. the next best thing is being CEO but roman can't bring himself to admit it's anything other than poison for himself and the family. like.......the director's commentary talking about how this has just been one long thing that happened to roman and now that it's over he's back to where he was s1.......ughhhhhh. and him ordering gerri's drink????
anyway i thought for sure roman or kendall were going to kill themselves. i was on the edge of my seat thinking kendall was going to jump off in the last few seconds of the show. whewwwwwww

Overall assessment of tgcf now that I’ve finished the extra chapters
It was good. One of the better things I’ve gotten into in a while
Did not need to be as long as it is
It’s an extremely weird mix of mythological and self-indulgent fanfic writing style
Xie Lian is the best character. I was really impressed by the risks MTXT took with him—he’s is introduced as an archetypal kind and graceful god but this is shattered and rebuilt over and over in the narrative
Hualian has a great premise but got repetitive. It was really enjoyable at first but after the 500th interaction between them is the same as the others, it wears off. I also felt the writing was at times more geared towards wish fulfillment than what was best for the story
Like with shoujo I’ve read recently, I have an annoyance with stories which can’t just write a mature, adult relationship, but instead stays in this world of tee-heeing about sex and such. Hualian feels like it is at core a mature partnership but then the author keeps dragging it back into tropes to keep fans titillated. Not my thing anymore
More should have been done with Hua Cheng’s character and there’s some really obvious pathways that could have been taken to develop him. At first I was okay with him being a one-track-mind type character but again... it got repetitive and the story lost its teeth as a result. I don’t think that the core of his character—his devotion to Xie Lian—should be changed. But for instance, there was a second when I thought he was going to have to consider the way he blindly took orders as Wuming, but no. NOW, I actually don’t have a problem with him just being an amoral character whose only priority is Xie Lian. But even without disrupting that, you could do a lot of things. What gets in the way of doing any of them is that he always has to come out on top; he’s always right, always saves the day, always sacrifices himself, etc. Now that was fine at first—especially given the way the relationship started—but this story is longer than the Bible! Especially with how much was done with other characters, I was a little disappointed
Even though tgcf did lose my interest sometimes, it always dragged me back. I was impressed by much of the storytelling. There were so many good set ups and pay offs, so many good twists, so many times when my jaw just dropped. I respect just how much work went into making this an intricate, interconnected narrative. The structure of having books 1, 3, and 5 set in the present day while we get 2 and 4 in between means that you keep getting layer upon layer added to the characters and the complexity of the world and it’s just delicious
The tone was all over the place but I never had a feeling of dissonance which is impressive
Xie Lian and Jun Wu are an excellent example of hero/villain foiling. I found the White-Faced Calamity to be a genuinely horrifying threat, plus I’ve always had a thing for whump and villains trying to corrupt heroes. Even though it coulda felt like embarrassing fanfic torture porn, nine times out of ten it didn’t. I really enjoyed going on the psychological journey Xie Lian had to endure, and once the full story behind Jun Wu was revealed, I was immediately drawn in to the parallels between them. I find Jun Wu to be one of the most interesting characters. I think the core of the story is represented in their dynamic—we have a vengeful ghost destroying someone else’s happiness because of what they lost. And in a Taoist twist, the evil ghost is also the great and benevolent ruler. The duality and good-evil themes were one of my favorite parts of the story. I’m always a sucker for a character who struggles to remain themselves and watching Xie Lian develop was... breath-taking in that regard
So many of the side characters were vibrant and memorable. In fact I think all of them? And I love that there’s so much DRAMA!! Gods, ghosts, and humans, getting into all kinds of hatreds and betrayals and loves. It felt a little neat, but I did love reading those final chapters and seeing a resolution to all the relationships that had been introduced. MXTX has an amazing eye for detail and never lets a character go to waste, no matter how small
The Lord Rain Master HAS to be one of my favorites. What I love is that she is peripheral and not involved in all the “important” doings of the plot, and in fact she could basically be cut with no difference to the plot. But her peaceful and serene life is almost a rebuke to the other gods who get into all kinds of petty drama—which often gets people killed. Idk she’s always portrayed in this way that makes you feel like, no matter how down to earth she is, she is a god very much worthy of honor
I really enjoyed the Shi Qingxuan, Shi Wudu, and Black Water revenge plot—it was one of the most suspenseful passages. Shi Qingxuan’s development was great and made them another foil to Xie Lian
The Feng Xin/Xie Lian/Mu Qing relationship makes my heart hurt
Even though I complained about ways Hualian could have been better, it’s still the heart of the story and I’ve been crying like a little bitch about them for the past day so I shouldn’t talk too much

Gensou Shoujo Taisen is clearly inspired by Super Robot Taisen in just about every aspect. The title, attack animations, some battle quotes, general gameplay. But there is one gameplay addition that I want to bring up and that’s the danmaku. The central conceit of the actual Touhou games exists in GST as ever present fields that are deployed by enemies. These fields reduce your evasion, defense and movement range while you’re inside and they can stack. These effects work well in gameplay and to represent what they are: When you find yourself caught in dense attacks in a shmup, you’re more likely to get hit and your ability to move is restricted. In GST, the generic fields exist to slow you down and to overwhelm you if you don’t deal with enemies before the bunch. You’ll quickly find yourself overwhelmed by danmaku if you can’t keep killing the enemies that deploy it and before long, you won’t be able to reliably dodge or tank attacks anymore. Meanwhile bosses have a whole different caliber of danmaku. Not only will its general effects be much stronger than usual, which pretty much forces you use Seishin skills to stand any chance at dodging, but they also come with special effects attuned to each boss. Be that Aya’s danmaku boosting the evasion of any enemy inside, Kisume's reducing damage taken or Yuyuko’s reducing healing more and more as the fight progresses, there are a lot of nasty effects to deal with. If it was just this, it wouldn’t be all that great, but the danmaku system is coupled with two other mechanics: Focus Mode and Bombs. Bombs are dropped by certain enemies on each stage and at the cost of losing 10 Power (Morale) will deal some damage and clear all danmaku in an area around the user for your turn. You can use this to rush some people through a barricade of danmaku to clear a time-sensitive objective, gain some initiative or to open a boss up for attacks, but you’ll have to be deliberate in using them since they’re limited per stage. Focus Mode is something anyone can enter or leave freely before committing to an action. It changes your movement range to Focused, which is usually about half of a character’s unfocused movement range. Both can be modified and different characters can have different specializations in either, such as Marisa having 7 unfocused and 2 focused movement and Reimu having 6 and 3 respectively. It also grants fully immunity to generic danmaku effects. Evasion, defense and movement penalties are all ignored. In particularly heavy danmaku, there’s a good chance you’ll have an easier time moving around in focus mode, even with the lowered movement range. However, there’s also a catch. Being in Focus mode changes “dodging” to “grazing”, where if you successfully roll to dodge, you will graze the attack and take damage according to your dodge percent. So if an attack has a 25% chance to hit you, there’s a 25% chance that you just get hit and a 75% chance that you’ll take a quarter of the damage. This makes you consider whether it’s better to face guaranteed, stable chip damage or gamble on worse odds to fully dodge. It’s mostly a question for evasive characters, since tanks already play with the expectation to take hits, but you can even build around mitigating graze damage with skills like Instinct Dodge (evasion/accuracy increases as health goes down) and Streaming (reduces graze damage taken), which is fairly viable if you also have some passive health regen to eventually reach a stable state or just end up with such high evade at near death that in Focus mode you’ll never face above 0% incoming hit chances. Focus mode also gives a flat +10% hit chance, which is pretty handy. Some attacks need you to be in either one or the state, like Marisa’s Master Spark or Reimu’s Phantasy Seal requiring focus mode (inspired by PCB’s focus<>nofocus bombs). Overall the danmaku mechanic is very tightly woven into these games and I think it’s really nice.

look okay i love clearcard. i find it tooth-rottingly adorable and wonderfully animated, and i think it’s a perfect representation of the magical girl genre that doesn’t have to be over the top and still be fantastical.
that you can, to this day, still make a simple magical girl show with no dark “twists” or “turns” or action that leaves the audience looking like 😨 the entire time. those are fun, i love them too, but you don’t have to do that in order to gain an audience. here’s cardcaptor to show that!
i just. i miss the old animation so dearly. yue looked older— everyone did!— in the original. i think those who are teenagers actually look like teenagers in clearcard (which definitely is a score!) but part of the appeal of the original is just how small sakura is. she’s a child. teenagers are massive in the original, with wide shoulders and long legs (shoujo legs!) but that made it even clearer to the viewer that sakura is a baby. she’s young, she’s a child, she’s just a girl who enjoys stuffed animals and playing games and going to aquariums. she rollerskates to school!
the new animation doesn’t make this as clear, imo. no one has sharp edges anymore, everyone is rounder. it makes her father look younger, her brother too, and yue. god, poor yue. he’s almost brat-ish, now, instead of calm and collected and even unkind sometimes. the “sharpness” of the adult features made sakura look so much younger in comparison , really driving in that Dear God, she’s a literal baby, and we’ve lost that part 😞
