Hey I was wondering if I could get a slasher matchup? I really love the 70s and early 80s I often dress with a band shirt and some jeans and a jacket (I try to give a 70s flair). I really love classic rock and vinyl. I also adore arcades and video games! I even own a NES! I try to give out warm punk vibes? I have no idea what the aesthetic is called lmao. I'm pretty quiet out in public and try to keep to myself. im also a cancer and like to do tarot and what not! Sorry if that was a lot it's my first time doing anything like this!

♡your perfect slasher match is tiffany ray (the human). she’s a girl boss who will do anything to make you happy.
♡she will compliment you all the time. she just adores the way you dress. it compliments your relationship perfectly. she wears the long flowing black dresses and you wear the pants (quite literally). don’t expect her to not try to style you one in a while. dressing you up is one of her hobbies she’d say
♡her music taste is a bit different from yours. though she is totally down for some classic rock any day all day. she loves really soft indie type music but she also loves crazy loud death metal. she is a women of many tastes and she’s proud. she’ll have a playlist full of songs that remind her of you just so she can listen to them when you’re away
♡she’s a bit of girly girl so she’ll refuse to play video games until she really tries it out and all of a sudden you’re asking for a turn because she’s on the console all day. oh and she’s very competitive. like extremely. so don’t expect to get any easy wins in any games. tiffany is also a very sore loser >:( let her win every time y/n..you love her don’t you ?
♡she is the opposite of quiet in public so don’t worry about there never being anything to talk about. she will happily talk your ear off and make sure your sandwich doesn’t have pickles on it.
♡tiffany loves to do witchy things as well!! she will happily teach you all her tips and tricks. though some of her methods are a bit…unorthodox she still has a great time. be prepared to be asked for a reading every other day. she’s always curious about her furniture so having you read it for her feels extra special.
♡to say she’s in love is an understatement. she is absolutely head over heels for you and wants to spend the rest of her human life with you. she will stop at nothing to make that happen.

Do I absolutely bully my friends into talking walks with me during their work breaks? I dunno, ask @anotherneworld. (The answer is yes. Very much yes.)

i think we should remind musicians they can absolutely make up little stories for their songs btw. it doesn’t have to be about them at all. you can invent a guy and put him in situations to music. time honoured tradition in fact.

i say i like tragedies and everyone’s all like ‘why do you like sad stories? are you depressed?’ and never ‘how was the catharsis? was the catharsis fun?’

no offense but you guys need to learn the difference between someone implying their experience is universal and a post simply just not being about you

Guys.
Y’all.
I…
I just. I just… i have discovered something. And I have laughed too much. I have laughed every time I have tried to explain it to someone. I cannot get through this.
Look. Okay.
There are two things you need to know, here.
First: There’s a style of Greek pottery that was popular during the Hellenic period, for which most of the surviving examples are from southern Italy. We call them ‘fish plates’ because, well, they’re plates, and they’re decorated with fish (and other marine life).
Like this one, currently in the Met:

Or this one, currently in the Cleveland Museum of Art:

They’re very cool. We’re not 100% sure what they were for, because most of the surviving ones were found as grave goods, but that’s a different post.
The second thing you need to know is that when we (Classics/archaeology/whatever as a discipline) have a collection of artefacts, like vases, sculptures, paintings, etc. and we do not know the name of the artist, but we’re pretty sure one artist made X, Y and Z artefacts, we come up with a name for that artist. There are a whole bunch of things that could be the source for the name, e.g. where we found most of their work (The Dipylon Master) or the potter with whom they worked (the Amasis Painter), a favourite theme (The Athena Painter), the Museum that ended up with the most famous thing they did (The Berlin Painter) or a notable aspect of their style. Like, say, The Eyebrow Painter.
Guess what kind of pottery the Eyebrow Painter made?

I think we need to get more comfortable with the idea that sometimes shitty, racist, homophobic, bigoted people are still incredibly talented.
I feel like every time I see a post addressing someone’s shitty behavior the post also takes the time to mention that they’re not even good at [x] anyway. And that’s just not always true? Equating being good at a skill as being morally good is just not necessary. Someone can be a fantastic writer, can have a beautiful singing voice, can create breathtaking artwork, and still be a horrible person.
I know part of this is probably just the instinct to dislike everything about a person when you dislike them, but I also think this mindset leads to people defending creatives way past where they should, because if bad people create bad art, then if this person creates art that I like and resonates with me, then they can’t be a bad person!
And you know. That’s just not true. Those two things are simply completely unconnected and I think it’d be healthier if we all started disconnecting them in our heads.

Do you really think I am here to decide what the best way to fix my problems is … NO

changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.
I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.
Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.
No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.
But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?
