I was thinking about the fact that when Harry has written about love interests before, he tends to shower them with adoration and devotion but rarely does he expect the person to be his in return. It’s very much a running theme pre-HsH. For example, in Adore You he goes you don’t have to say you’re mine. It’s like he’s okay with giving himself but doesn’t expect it back and that’s a common theme with a lot of songs on HS and Fine Line. There’s a lot of yearning but then also this resignation that his love and devotion won’t be reciprocated on the same level. This album is different cause he’s overtly wanting the object of his affection to belong to him and when that happens, he can’t contain himself: give me all of your love in the chorus of Daydreaming so it’s repeated over and over, and mine, mine, mine on Sushi and I guess you’re all mine on Cinema. Like damn bro, okay lol. It’s just a side of him in his writing that we haven’t really seen before.

Yes, I am still continuing with the Empress AU, as it’s a huge part of my blog and I enjoy writing things for it. I’m currently busy with my Halloween Event at the moment, so fics for the Empress AU are backed up behind a line of other WIPs. Besides that however, to answer your second question:

The Empress is a very influential figurehead throughout Teyvat. Her influence and fame is on par with Ningguang, Miko, Neuvilette, etc. so she’s very well known in all regions. For lore purposes (I will get into this at some point) the Empress’ family is extremely blessed and any relation to her family is one that many people wish to seek. Since the Empress’ family is very well known and powerful, people all across Teyvat wish to hold contracts with them and build relationships for the sake of good fortune.

For the Empress, contracts for her come in the form of courtship. Women who are influential enough (or just catch the eye of the Empress) are able to form a contract with the Empress and her family by becoming a courtesan. Women who enter this kind of status are blessed with many benefits in life, including money, fame, luck, good health, and of course: a beautiful partner. (Or partners since courtesans are free to mingle with one another)

I will make a whole lore post at some point with the Empress AU, but this is a summarized version of why so many people are interested in becoming the Empress’ courtesans :)
