been listening to the album You Don't Mess Around With Jim by Jim Croce (albeit, skipping Photographs and Memories almost every time and sometimes skipping some others, but not as much lately) so much lately so i wanted to just list thoughts about every song

You Don't Mess Around With Jim - honestly such a freaking bop, just gets better every time I listen to it. one of many songs where there's a lot where i genuinely don't know the words and my singing is just mumbling and very vaguely getting the sounds and stuff, but honestly, i love to be blissfully ignorant about lyrics and just sing nonsense. every time i learn lyrics where before i just sang nonsense, a little bit of my innocence dies. anyway

Tomorrow's Gonna Be a Brighter Day - love this one, not going into details about him but sometimes this song reminds me a little of my boyfriend, and yeah i just love this one, i always get so into, love "reach into heaven and pull you down a star" ahhh

New York's Not My Home - not the most exciting song, but gosh i appreciate it so much. i feel like everyone loves New York City (that's a humongous generalization obviously) but i am just so not a city person and i love this song that's just like yeah New York City is really weird and not very good, also i like the part about learning a lot of lessons but they weren't the nice kind, like yeah sometimes you learn a lesson but you wish you didn't have to go through that, so yeah it's not like i absolutely love how it sounds or think it's amazing lyrics but i love what it stands for

Hard Time Losin' Man - such a bop omg, yeah i really love this one, the "i hit a bump" lyric always makes me laugh, i love the oregano lyric, and yeah it's just a bop! another one where i'm just singing nonsense for a lot of it and yeah ditto to what i said earlier about that, i do not need to know the lyrics

Photographs and Memories - yeah i've listened to this one way less than the others cus whenever i do listen to it i'm just kinda bored. my personal opinion obviously, not saying it's a boring song

Walkin' Back to Georgia - another one i skip sometimes, but i definitely like it. i like how all of the "the girl who said you love me" or whatever it is sound, the way i worded that was so clumsy but whatever, and yeah it's definitely nice

Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels) - for the longest time this was the only song i knew from this album, and yeah i'm so obsessed with it, like of course whenever i listen to it i think like yeah this is just like customer service interactions when the customer is trying to tell me their life story and being so annoying lol, but i don't care, i just absolutely adore this song

Time in a Bottle - another one i sometimes skip, i think it's like i'm not in love with the lyrics or the way it sounds but it makes me think of my boyfriend lol, cus yes i really do want to save every day till eternity passes just to spend it with him, yes relatable

Rapid Roy (That Stock Car Boy) - man i love this one, another freaking bop and possibly the biggest bop on the album? but don't hold me to that. what's so funny is that at first whenever i listened to it, like earlier this summer, every lyrics besides that whole part that repeats just went completely over my head and i genuinely thought this song was just that part and then that part again and i was like yeah it's catchy but too repetitive, so i don't know what was going on there, but yeah this song is so freaking catchy and such a bop, the thing about a tattoo that says baby and another one that just says hey is so fucking funny to me lol, but yeah i'm thinking maybe it is the biggest bop on the album (?)

Box #10 - another one i love, i don't really know what it is about it that i love but it's just really nice, hmm i somehow don't have any more thoughts on it

A Long Time Ago - one i used to skip before i was really familiar with it but that i don't anymore, yeah it's a nice song, i like the thing with like in the gold of morning there was nothing that i had not seen in your eyes, or whatever it was, cus like yeah for real

Hey Tomorrow - ahh i love this one so much, the first chords just strike such a specific feeling in me, so specific i can't describe it of course lmao. but yeah it's just so great

nothing could go above operator, it's just too great, and the next four were pretty hard but i do love a bop, and i just felt like i enjoy you don't mess around with jim slightly more than rapid roy and same with tomorrow's gonna be a brighter day and hey tomorrow, then i love hard time losin' man and box #10 but they're just a little bit lower, and new york's not my home is next because of what it means to me, and then time in a bottle makes me have mushy feelings but i just had to put a long time ago above cus otherwise i'm kinda eh on time in a bottle, and then walkin' back to georgia is the one i'm most eh on besides photographs and memories

and just because i can't resist i want to mention other Jim Croce songs i've been listening to, which are just my faves, cus both other albums (well there was one before this one but i haven't listened to it, he looks so different on the cover and i think that's the main reason way lmao, i'm just like he doesn't look the same so it won't be as good lmao) didn't have enough ones i really liked to make me listen to all of it

I Got a Name - holy shit i love this song, it just feels so profound and just gets me deep in my soul, gosh i love it, i love that it mentions a whippoorwill, i just love it so much oh man

Workin' at the Car Wash Blues - ahh i love this one so much too, like the titular lyric is just so damn catchy, how did he make like the literal best melody in the world, i don't understand, points taken off for the gross lyric about the secretary but i just can't help adoring this song

One Less Set of Footsteps - i am literally obsessed with this song, oh man it's so good, just the part where there's like harmonies along with what he's singing or whatever that's called, like it just feels so full, ahh it's such an amazing song

Bad, Bad Leroy Brown - before discovering operator this was the only Jim Croce song i knew, and holy shit if you can only know one of his songs it should be this, i would die for this song, i love it so so so much, i'm still mad at that post i saw on here a while ago where it was a poll for this versus you don't mess around with jim, and that song won, and you saw that i love that song, i put it at #2 up there, but when i tell you that this song absolutely eviscerates that song, it absolutely eviscerates it. i could say maybe nostalgia is part of that, and obviously yes to some extent, but i truly believe this is his best song and one of the best songs ever, i just can't help but bounce in place when i hear the opening chords, i'm obsessed with it, it's so amazing

dear dead boy detective (especially paynland) enjoyers: have you yet heard of the biggest gift bestowed upon the fandom so far, aka jayden's charles playlist? the one he mentioned in interviews? well, he dropped it on twitter at 19th of may. and man, do i have stuff to say about it.

there's a lot of 80's bangers, for sure, great to get into the mood and character, but some of the choices...

i'm gonna focus on a few of my favourites, songs that made me go insane when i saw them. honorable mentions: - category 1 (so devoted the lines blur): ain't no mountain high enough by marvin gaye and tammi terrell, there is a light that never goes out by the smiths, inkpot gods by the amazing devil - category 2 (family life): family line and summer child by conan gray, seventeen going under by sam fender, matilda by harry styles, father by the front bottoms - category 3 (being queer in the 80s): smalltown boy by bronski beat, boys don't cry by the cure - category 4 (there's no heterosexual explanation for this one): good luck, babe! by chappel roan, yellow by coldplay, fight or flight by conan gray (is this about monty? the cat king? i need answers!), the prophecy by taylor swift, arms tonite by mother mother, sweet by cigarettes after sex, head over heels by tears for fears

this list is by no means complete or comprehensive!

and now, the songs that made me go the craziest: (they're predominantly in charles' pov as it's his playlist)

found heaven by conan gray

the only reason this song made it into the list and not the honorable mentions instead of smalltown boy is that it makes almost the same point, just so much more explicitly. i don't think i have to say much about it, it's a story of a young person griping with their queerness, being forced to leave home, a common theme of the playlist. "you're in love, you found heaven" when he chose edwin over his own afterlife, heavily implied to be heaven, and built his heaven with him on the mortal plane? ouch! (and we see this same notion repeated in another bop from the playlist, heaven is a place on earth by belinda carlisle).

2. like real people do by hozier

"i miss kissing" charles rowland, 202X romantic meaning aside, the verses show a sort of a common understanding the boys have around the manner of their deaths and their lives before it. we already know from the show they don't really talk about it, with edwin not knowing about the severity of the abuse charles suffered. it feels like one of them saying "let the past be past, we're together now, yeah?". but also, jayden: can there ever be a platonic explanation for this? ghosts can't touch, can't feel, so they wish they could just kiss like "real" (alive?) people do?

3. flaws by bastille

not the most romantic song, but i absolutely love how well it fits their dynamic. despite his edwardian brand of repression, edwin truly is the one that's more open about his feelings (recognising of course that in this case, the bar is so low it's in hell. haha, get it). edwin has worn his flaws upon his sleeve, and charles has held them buried - eg. bottling up all of his anger and resentment towards his family and his own death. the song presents a very sweet outlook, in which their flaws are brought up to the surface (for example, charles' outburst against the night nurse in episode 4), but they learn to accept them as they are, an extension of themselves.

4. a pearl by mitski

you know it's gonna get intense if there's a mitski song in the mix.

the song is about a person who finds love in their partner, someone who treats them way better than they've ever been treated - and yet they cannot bring themselves to reciprocate the affection ("it's not that i don't want you, sorry i can't take your touch") despite reciprocating the feelings themselves because of the trauma. charles is known to bottle things up ("you're growing tired of me and all the things i don't talk about"). the person in the song recognises the love the other person holds for them ("you love me so hard and i still can't sleep"), which reminds me of charles' response to edwin's confession. not a "no", but a "maybe, as time passes".

5. fair by the amazing devil

this one made me genuinely gasp when i first delved into the lyrics. it's simply so sweet, such a genuine and domestic portrayal of love. at first i thought it was way too open about being a love song (normal text instead of the subtext i'd be used to) for jayden to choose it with edwin in mind, but... there's no one else it can really be about. it's far too domestic, too "established" to refer to crystal. refers to a relationship that's laster for a longer while.

the narrator in the first verse is a person deeply in love with the other person, someone who loves to make his lover laugh and simply drinks in their presence. the "he" in the song i believe is charles, while the "she" refers to edwin. edwin promises to fight off anyone - or any feelings pulling charles down (we can see this in the first episode: "you ever think... what if death did catch us? she'd force us to go to the afterlife and split up" "i will make sure this never happens."). charles feels left behind by the world (seeing as he clings to crystal at first, refering to her as "someone their age who's still alive") and believes edwin to be so much stronger than he's ever been. i'm not going to break down the song verse by verse, but if you read it yourself while subbing out "he" for charles and "she" for edwin you'll see just how sweet (and... strangely very in character?) the song is.

6. work song by hozier

if the previous song made me gasp when i saw the lyrics, this one made me go "NO WAY" out loud when i saw the title. the first one verse is just pure toothrotting sweetness, but the chorus is what i want to draw attention to:

when my time comes around lay me gently in the cold, dark earth no grave can hold my body down i'll crawl home to her

HELLO? charles, who keeps escaping death and afterlife to be able to stay with edwin? charles, as he literally takes his last breath with edwin right there, choosing to be by his side rather than move on? charles, who keeps choosing him despite night nurse's promises and threats? charles, who literally crawled through hell for him?

verse 2, to me, can be interpreted as referring to when charles died. edwin found him at his worst, and he "woke" up with his presence comforting him. he was shivering due to hypothermia and his injuries. edwin didn't ask him about what happened or pushed him, he simply listened. the lines "i didn't care much how long i lived, but I swear, i thought i dreamed her" are pretty self explanatory.

in verse 3 we still see the same attitude of "damn the afterlife, at least we have each other" as charles portrays througout the series. they're free, and heaven and hell are simply words to him.

7. orpheus by vincent lima

i literally have no words for this one. it fits too well. if you want commentary for this one, just... i don't know, rewatch the staircase scene.

8. francesca by hozier

(cracks knuckles) this is the big one. the album francesca is from, unreal unearth, is based on dante alighieri's divine comedy, a fourteenth century poem about a man venturing into hell, purgatory and eventually heaven. the eponymous francesca is one francesca di rimini, a woman who was politically married off to a man older than her, called giovanni malatesta. francesca didn't love him, and eventually fell deep in love with giovanni's younger brother, paolo. the two carried on with the affair for years, before being murdered by giovanni upon his finding out. francesca and paolo are mentioned in canto v of the first book, inferno, as two souls damned in the second circle of hell, lust. their punishment is to be permanently locked in a hurricane, swept away by the winds the moment they manage to get close enough to touch one another.

as opposed to their portrayal in the poem, the song is from the perspective of paolo, explaining that no matter the punishment, he wouldn't change anything about his life because he got to know, and love, francesca.

the first verse brings to mind the scenes in hell, especially on the staircase ("do you think I'd give up? that this might've shook the love from me? or that I was on the brink? how could you think, darlin', i'd scare so easily?" as an echo of charles' "sorry. no version of this where i didn't come get you"). "my life was a storm since i was born, how could i fear any hurricane?" could relate to charles' tumultuous family life, an assurance that nothing he has to deal with while by edwin's side will faze him given the things he's lived through. no, despite everything he's suffered through, charles wouldn't do anything differently - because his (admittedly shitty) life led him to edwin ("i'd tell them, put me back in"). we already know charles would choose him over heaven, willingly sacrificing his own afterlife to stay with a boy he's known for hours, someone kind enough to keep him company as he drew his final breath. all of it - his father's abuse, his schoolmates' bigotry, the pain of his own death, as well as everything he's gone through since - he'd do it all again, for edwin.

"for all that was said of where we'd end up at the end of it" could be taken as an allusion to the fate the boys would meet at "at the end of it", when they're finally caught by death and separated, or as more of a general "if you sin, you will go to hell when you die" (up to you to decide what the sin itself would be - an interpretation that would work with other songs on the playlist is that one such sin would be same sex attraction). then their hearts ceased, they never knew "peace", nor did they want to find it in death. their deaths were too soon, them being ripped away from life, but even though it would break his heart: charles would ask to do it all again.

the outro, i think, beautifully pulls it all together: heaven is not fit to house a love like theirs.

to wrap it all up:

hockey player!James x figure skater!reader ♡ 718 words

James’ entire body is pleasantly sore, and he’s very much looking forward to going home to a nice, hot shower.

“Do you and Moony want to go get breakfast tomorrow morning?” he asks Sirius as they leave the locker room. The two of them had taken longer than usual changing out of their gear, Sirius filling him in on the absolute hell week Remus had at his new job. To hear Sirius talk about it, all the other professors are simply jealous of Remus. James is sure that’s partly true, but he’d bet they need less reason than that. Somehow, James had thought leaving school would mean emerging into a more mature world, but adults seem just as petty as teenagers. Maybe pancakes and a good, uplifting chat would do something to take the sting out of Remus’ first week and help prepare him for the next.

Sirius cuts James a sideways look, gray eyes narrowed. “Breakfast at what time?”

“I was thinking six, six thirty.” Sirius scoffs, and James grins. “Only joking. How’s eleven?”

“Still too early,” Sirius grumbles, “but we’ll go.”

James bobs his head, pleased to have a course of action for helping his friend. “Ask Moons where he feels like going, and just…” He hears a faint, familiar melody. “...just let me know.”

“Sounds good.” Sirius pushes open the door, but James has stopped. He’s looking back towards the rink, intrigued. “Coming?”

James waves him off. “In a bit. See you tomorrow.”

Sirius makes an amused sound, not unused to James’ diversions, and goes.

James follows the sound of his favorite song, unabashed about bopping his head to the beat as he approaches the rink. He knows figure skaters sometimes use the rink after his hockey practice has wrapped up, and he absolutely has to see who’s choreographed a routine to this. He comes to a stop near the edge of the bleachers, and watches through the tempered glass as one lone skater launches into a turn.

This wouldn’t be the track James would have thought of for a figure skating routine, but frankly, you’re doing it justice. Your movements are springy and nimble as you glance across the ice, one complicated-looking move to the next to the next. It seems like both skates are never touching the ground for more than half a second. There’s a lot to be said, probably, about your skill, your technique, but James is a philistine. All he can think about is how pretty you look.

You’re gorgeous. Stunning. Graceful in your movements and seraphim in your countenance. A wisp of hair has freed itself from the confines of the rest and whips about your face, but you don’t seem to notice it, your gaze steady and lips just slightly pursed in concentration.

James would never tell his friends because they’d mock him to hell and back, but he does believe in love at first sight. Only under particular circumstances, though. The sight has to be good enough—meaning, he has to see some aspect of who that person is behind a pretty face. You certainly do have a pretty face, and you’re dancing to his favorite song, and James doesn’t understand how he could ever be expected to not be totally enamored with you after this one spectacular look. He worries that if you glance over, you’ll see him with giant cartoon hearts boinging out of his eyes on springs.

The song ends, and you spin to a stop. James’ breathing stops, too, as your gaze lands on a point not ten feet to his right. He wonders if he’s being creepy. It’s not like this is a private rink, and James wouldn’t be weirded out if he spotted someone watching him running drills or something (actually, if it were you he’d be over the moon about it), but he’s been told not everyone feels like he does about that stuff. And though he hardly thinks of himself as intimidating, James is also a big guy. He wants to woo you, not spook you.

You skate to the edge of the rink to restart your music, and James slips out. He hears it blaring softly behind him, and he probably looks like a total idiot when he grins and dances out the front door. An idiot in love.

“¿Segura que vas a estar bien sola, mami?” Are you sure you're going to be alright on your own, mami? Miguel mumbles as he looks at his love standing by the oven. His eyes cautiously watch her hips sway softly as she hums softly to herself and makes her French toast. Her swollen stomach makes her movements seem more imbalanced.

“I’m sure, Miggy.” The heavily pregnant woman reassures her love. The woman turned back to her worried lover as he stood by the door in his blue spider suit.

Hitting the third trimester of pregnancy has led to Miguel becoming more of a protective force than he was before. He already had to fight his stubborn little sunshine to be benched during the first two months of her pregnancy, which resulted in the compromise of her moving into this apartment to appease both of them. Now in the sixth month of bringing this new little life into the world, the man had to basically be pried away from his apartment in order for him to go on missions outside of his dimension.

For example, if there wasn’t another Spot on the loose again, Miguel would be content with staying home with his girls and gorging on the trashy romantic comedies that she kept playing on repeat. Of course, he would never voice his disdain for the films. Not when he gets to see her eyes light up in delight as her voice floods the apartment in laughter.

“You really don’t need to worry about us, mi amor.” She calmly assures him as she wraps her arms around him. Her bump made it difficult for her to embrace him, but the little flutter of feet against his abdomen made up for it. “We always know that Papi will always keep us safe.” She mutters as her bright smile cuts through Miguel’s heart.

Cupping her face, Miguel whispers softly, “¿Qué hice para merecerte?” What did I do to deserve you? He presses gently kisses on her forehead, cheeks, and lips as she giggles at the feathery light affection. Miguel knees down and pressed a firm kiss on her bump while whispering, “Pórtate bien, Estrellita. No quiero que le causes muchos problemas a tu mami mientras no estoy.” Be good, little star. I don't want you to cause your mommy too much trouble while I'm gone.

A strong kick meets Miguel’s lips unexpectedly as he chuckles at Maria’s attempt to tell her father to get on the road.

Standing up, He gives his love another kiss before heading out. As he swings away, the pregnant woman looks down at her bump and mumbles.

“Now that Papa is gone, we can have some fun.”

“Lyla, si vuelves a mandarme a algún sitio así, te pondré en el monitor de bebés de Mayday.” Lyla, if you ever send me anywhere like that again, I will put you into Mayday's baby monitor. Miguel seethes as he limps out of the portal with the rest of the team.

The mission was a lot more difficult than the team was briefed on. They knew that The Spot was involved, but Lyla didn’t mention Doctor Octavious and a Prowler would be there as well. Miguel had handled the two while the others worked to capture The Spot, but the task wasn’t easy as the large claw marks along his sides and heavy bruising proved. Luckily, they managed to capture the enemies, but everyone receive a significant amount of damage.

Lyla laughs as she plays with some weird virtual version of a toy Gwen had yesterday. The annoying popping of the rubber bubbles causes Miguel’s already sour mood to worsen as she muses, “ No need to fuss, Miggy. You guys are still alive and ready to kick ass tomorrow.”

“I don’t think being alive is a good thing right now…” Pavitr groans as he plops onto the floor as Hobie grumbles beside him about his destroyed guitar.

Jess rolls her eyes as she plops herself in Miguel’s normal spot by the monitor and throws Miguel a knowing glance.

“Why don’t you head on home, Migue?’ Jess offers which causes him to look at her a little surprised. “You need to be home with Sunny. Believe me, I understand how uncomfortable she is right now.”

“I can’t ask you to do that.” Miguel argues, “What about your-”

“My husband can handle Little Bit while I finish this report.” Jessica shuts him down as she shoots him a familiar glare he recognizes from his own mother. God, he hopes his sweet sunny doesn’t develop a glare like that. She would have him running for his money.

Miguel silently thanks his friend as he leaves, opting to swing home instead of the portal. Deciding to pick up some takeout from her favorite restaurant on the way.

As Miguel approaches the door to their apartment, the soft buzz of pop music filters through the thick walls of the building. His eyebrow quirks up as he softly opens the door. The young black and white mass of fur greets with silent chirps as Miguel shushes him. He closes the door quietly as he kneels down and scratches behind the cat’s ears.

“¿Qué hacían nuestras chicas mientras yo no estaba, Moony?” What were our girls doing while I was gone, Moony? He coos as he stands up and places the bags of food on the counter.

Moony runs off as the soft voice he loves fills the apartment.

“Don't need no one, she can dance on her own

Club is closin', but she ain't goin' home

Night is still young, where the hell will she go?

Nobody knows nobody knows”

The hyper-pop music boomed from the sound system as Miguel rounds the corner and his face splits into a bright grin. His red eyes soften as he watches his pregnant love freely dancing around the living room with a pint of ice cream in her hand. His worn sweater consumes her frame as she twirls and blurts out lyrics.

“Can't tame her magic energy

She's so magnetic, pulls you in every time (every time)

Every time (every time)

But she don't care, she gonna do what she wants (she wants)”

Watching her ridiculously move with a large bump almost made Miguel chuckle, but he didn’t want to disturb her yet. He waits for her to twirl one more time before stalking toward their bedroom.

She continues her private concert as she shoves a spoonful of ice cream before using it as a microphone. The utter giddy from these past few months filled her being as she sings out.

“And you can't tie her down

When the night comes around (around)

Said she gonna party all night (all night)

And you can't change her

Can't blame her, can't tame her”

A pair of warm arms wrap around her waist as her heart stops in her chest for a moment before a warm purr rumbles in his chest. She relaxes as her purring lover mumbles, “Parece que tuviste un día divertido, mi amor.” You look like you had a fun day, my love.

“I did.” I giggle as she can feel his hips sway to the music with hers, playfully dancing with her. His warm hands gently rub her stomach as their little one happily greets her father with little kicks. “She’s gonna be ready to fight crime by the time she gets out of there.” She jokes through a particularly hard kick. The mother was now sure that Maria is gonna be as strong as Miguel with the bruises she was starting to have.

“Bien. Quiero que aleje a todos esos niñatos de ella hasta que tenga treinta años.” Good. I want her to fight all of those little boys away from her until she's thirty. Miguel grumbles as he thinks about his little girl possibly dating little punks in the future.

“Papi, she’s not even here yet and you’re already so protective.” She giggles as she turns around in his arms. Her eyes light up as she’s met with her grumpy boyfriend’s bare chest and low-hanging joggers, but a pout appears as she sees the large claw marks and bruises running on his sides.

“Por supuesto que sí.” Of course, I am. Miguel smiles mischievously as the music transitions into a familiar upbeat tune that causes his love’s concern to fade to amusement. “Tengo que proteger a mis hijas y mostrarles cómo los hombres de verdad tratan a sus hijas.” I have to protect my girls and show them how real men treat their girls.

A whirlwind of laughter fills the room as Miguel starts to pull her into the Cumbia. Her moments of imbalance missteps were soothed by his strong hands as he catches her. The couple spend their evening in each other’s arms dancing and loving their growing family.

Millie Starkey doesn’t like to do things conventionally. Her parents have always taught her to think outside of the box and do what feels is right to her. So when the five-year-old announced to her father that she wanted to do an in-bed talent show for Y/N on Mother’s Day, he gladly abandoned the beginnings of the breakfast in bed he was going to make. “We have to be very quiet. We don’t want to wake Mommy up too abruptly,” he whispers to his two kids as he pushes his bedroom door open. Tristan nods, “Okay, Daddy!” Drew cringes a little, his son’s whispers aren’t as quiet as the two-year-old thinks it is. Drew picks the boy up and enters the room with his daughter.

Y/N has to force her eyes shut as she listens to the pitter-patter of her family’s feet walking across the hardwood floor. They think she is asleep, but the truth is that they weren’t very quiet when they were downstairs. She feels the bed dip as Drew helps both kids onto the bed. Millie crawls to her mother’s face and pulls the older woman’s eyelids apart. “Wake up, Mommy. Happy Mother’s Day,” the little girl murmurs loudly. Drew grabs the girl by her waist and pulls her away from Y/N’s face, “Millie, don’t do that to Mommy’s eyes.”

Millie removes her hands from her mother’s face and stands on the bed, “Mommy, we are going to do a talent show for you!” “‘alent show,” Tristan mimics his sister, standing on the bed with his hands in the air. Y/N sits up against the bedframe, “Really? What a great idea, my loves. Who is going to go first?” Millie scrambles onto the floor, calling everyone’s attention to her. “I am, Mommy. I am going to dance for you,” Millie announces. She looks at Drew to start the music and when she hears the sounds of “Getaway Car” by Taylor Swift, she starts moving her body. Y/N has to stop herself from laughing. Her daughter dances exactly like her husband. Her hips move forward like she is doing the worm standing up. Arms taking turns to reach over her head like she is stretching. Finger guns that move in a circular motion. It is truly a sight to behold. Millie’s hands find the floor as she tries to do a cartwheel. Once the song finishes, she stands up to bow to her family’s applause. “Wow, Mills. That was so good,” Y/N praises, opening her arms so her daughter can run into them for a kiss.

Tristan is up next, sitting on the floor behind the toy drums his dad put down. Y/N listens to the unrythmic tapping of the toy with a grin on her face. She bobs her head to the sound and giggles at Drew, who is absolutely just bopping to the music. She loves how he will always be their children’s hypeman. Tristan finishes his song with his hand in the air. His family claps for him and Drew places him in his mother’s arms.

“So what’s your talent, my love?” Y/N teases, not letting her husband get out of this family bonding moment. He leans in and presses his mouth to her ear, “Can my talent be making love to my beautiful wife?” Y/N feels her cheeks heat up and has to move away to steady her breathing. Drew chuckles, ignoring his kids’ questions about what he said. “I’m joking, kinda. My talent is juggling.” He brings out three plastic balls from one of Tristan’s games and begins to juggle. He knows Y/N lost her fascination for his juggling when they first started dating, but the kids still look at it with wonder. As he catches the third ball in his hands, his family cheers him on with smiles on their faces. Y/N beckons him in for a group hug and she squeezes together all the people that she loves. “I love my talent show, my loves. Thank you. I have a very talented family, who I love so much.”

As much as I loved Adam's song (it's a bop), I can't help but just feel uneasy about the way Heaven is portrayed in this show. I was excited to see where they take it, but it's just... Idk, it's a letdown for me. Sure, I'm absolutely willing to see how it develops, but having the original Adam being an Angel? The way he acts? Them just cursing so much? Though that seems to be a problem with both Hazbin and Helluva in general... Now, someone will say, "But it's supposed to show how corrupt Heaven is" and "They're no better than Hell." Sure, I get it. I quite like this trope. However, to me, this portrayal is pretty shallow. There's still much for us to learn about Heaven's whole deal, but it might be the weakest part of this show.

the way the ominous bits are subtly hidden? it all sounds so cute but there are just these Things that she sings that are really kind of concerning and unhealthy when she sings them!! and the veiled desperation to be in her relationship- listening to that and the cheery tone and breakneck, quick song pace, it really does represent mahiru SO well. she throws in all these little bits that just go noooo teehee the relationships just fine!! when it REALLY isnt

I care so much about This is How To Be In Love With You- it's visuals are brilliant in the ways it conveys its themes and narrative. I'm never normal Ever about the "Love as marketing" symbolism that is brought in by the use of magazines. It's a lovely upbeat song but the Horrors are Always Lurking under it, the breakup Ritual line is my Favorite Line cause its so horrifying but its said so casually and its so good oh its so good-
