The Kidneys: the organ, associated muscles, Referral pattern and meridian From what I’ve read, the major source of kidney Referral pain is from stones. Fortunately, a lot of us will pass these on our own and those that don’t, I hear ultrasound treatments are amazing. The other potentials are extreme pain from what I hear and read. It’s good to be aware of what is called flank pain, but also that back pain may not be coming from your back. Probably the most regular Referral pattern is a posterior discomfort around the floating ribs. Hydrate well, not all water is created equally, and salt well, not all salt is created equally. (Also diet sodas are not good for the diet.) #muscles #movement #meridians #kidneystones #kidneypain #kidneyproblems #kidneymeridian #iliopsoas #psoas #deepfrontline #fascia #myofascia #viscera #visceral #hydrate #adaptablepolarity #kidneys #kidney https://www.instagram.com/p/Ckqmr1dJUA0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

SENSING THE DEEP CORE: Psoas Minor
The Psoas Minor is a vector connecting the pubic bone to the spine.. Ahdjdkd saw sports med today they were like. Hun. Your hip adductors are tight enough I could play them like a guitar. I won’t. Cause that would be bad. But.

i think the funniest bit of insight porn leftism I ever read is still "white people can't dance because they're traumatized and that causes their iliopsoas to lock up"

Ultrasound showed nice healthy iliopsoas! Pip was a model patient who laid quietly in the cradle and even helped onboard a new employee.
Other news, they found two fluid filled blobs in her abdomen that appeared to be cystic lymph nodes. I never want to hear "lymph nodes" again in my life but she assured me they didn't look malignant. Lymphoma nodes are dense and messed up looking, these are dark and fluidy. They checked other nodes in the region they were viewing and those were all normal. So was her reproductive tract.
Back when she was staged for her transplant, they noted pockets of mystery fluid in her belly. They didn't say they looked node-like at that time, but I'm hoping it's the same goo and thus nothing to worry about. We will know more once the radiologist has a chance to check the literature and send the final report over. Will discuss with our oncologist and hopefully be breathing a big sigh of relief. I'm trying not to freak out, I think we have a lot of things in our favor that suggest we don't need to worry.

This journey to feeling good inside my skin is taking me on quite the wild ride since I started working with a pilates coach. I seem to have reached the stage of waking up my iliopsoas muscles and am experiencing sciatica, low back pain, sharp pinching pains in my abdominal walls, and pains all over my legs. I’ve been using the standing desk more and that just feels even worse.
Today I did a little google dive and came across a video of a somatic pandiculation exercise series for releasing the psoas and good gracious, that shit helped. I’m going to do it again later today and probably every day because clearly I have 56 years of holding on to work out in this body of mine.
I’d love to go check myself in to some somatic retreat center to learn all the things. Work is bullshit. Capitalism is a right bastard. I just want to focus on healing.

Another sports vet checkup today for the big black dog. Some good, some bad. Her iliospoas felt pretty good today. Which is good! The knot in her left shoulder is a lot smaller, though still present. The bad is that Chandra’s back is bothering her more today.
After watching the videos from our trials a few weeks ago, she thinks Chandra’s issues were more likely back + potential vision problem, not iliopsoas. She said depending on how Chandra feels, we can try the CPE trial at 16” this weekend and send her videos. Getting Chandra back to 20” for USDAA and AKC is looking a lot less likely. ☹️
At almost 7 years old and with all the issues Chandra has/had, I’m getting less optimistic about much agility being in her future. I know we both love agility together but I also don’t want to do too much to the detriment of her health and other activities as she gets older. It’s a tough balancing act with “life is short, let the dog have fun and do what she enjoys” but also “I hope she makes it to old age and I don’t want her crippled because of the things we did”. 😕
Sooo we’ll see how she does this weekend. It may or may not be Chandra’s last agility trial so there will be a lot of “fuck it and have fun”. And then I need to get her dental checkup scheduled, when we’ll also repeat her back xrays and see if anything concerning shows up.

Stretch
I looked at an article about hip stretches that was ultimately unhelpful - in that I’m already doing those stretches and quite a few others. It had a diagram, though, that really explained the problem to me.
Tumblr media
[ID: diagram of a skeletal torso with one muscle group, the iliopsoas, running from the spine to the front inner femur.]
Most of the pain I’m having the last couple of years (since my ill-fated physical therapy attempt) is the lower back and the front of my hip. It’s just . . these little sunsabitches. And oh, how I wish I could get them to stop tightening and cramping. Unfortunately, stretches and massage have been only minimally helpful, and there’s only so much muscle-relaxant you can take and remain functional.
So I’m staring at the diagram and cursing under my breath.

When we sit, our iliopsoas and iliotibial band contract and tighten. This can cause pulling at the hip joint and lead to anterior pelvic tilt. This type of imbalance, if not corrected, can contribute to propensity to fall.
Forward lunges increase core stabilization by activating: gluteus maximus, hamstrings, thigh adductors, quadriceps, and hip flexors. This exercise can be performed in small spaces such as in cubicles.
Stack right knee over right ankle and stretch the left leg backward. Lower the body. Your right knee should not go further than your right toes but may extend beyond the right knee. Left knee may be lowered to the floor, if you are advanced. Try as low as you can and be able to rise back to starting position. The left toes are flat on the ground into dorsiflexion.
You may alternate legs or do complete sets on each side. Please keep in mind that EMDR and trauma processing works better with bilateral stimulation, so alternating would be beneficial.
Once you have mastered proper form, the forward lunge may be intensified by adding weights. Stay tuned for more desk fitness tips.
