YOU ALSO LIKE THE HTTYD BOOKS??? HELL YES. i have. been losing it over hiccup the second for. hours. and how hes the whole reason the story of the httyd books YET DOESNT EVEN FUCKING APPEAR ONCE IN THE HTTYD MOVIES. theres no hiccup the second equivalent. what the fuck. i could fit them in so easily. make them background context for why the majority of the archepeliago is hostile with dragons. hiccup the seconds death happened and the whole dragon rebellion happened very far ago leading to this sort of hostility but it was so long ago nobody really remembers and hiccup the second is vaguely remembered but nothing important about him actually is. furious doesnt even need to still be alive for this to work. hiccup the second. hautning the narrative. i like him

Ok first off. AHHHHHHH YES YES YES HELLO FELLOW HICCUP THE SECOND STAN!!!!! i actually watched the movie first and then the book so i was like "wow cool" on the first watch but Oh my god i would be so lying if i said i never once wished for a hiccup the second in the movies. Like i KNOW the movies are basically like a whole different thing from the books after the first one but?? BUT???? Idk im very biased i love the guy. Ik you pointed this out but he really is the reason for literally everything in the books if you care enough to look into it and i really do think him being some sort of background lore in the movies would be so cool.. *digging thru the httyd ao3 tags*

incidentally if you ask me to choose between the movies and the books i would say the books in a heartbeat. i love the movies it's one of my favorites but a) the books made me cry harder b) theres no hiccup the second OR hiccup the first c) the book lore is absolutely golden and ive never seen anything else top it and d) the movies overwrote fishlegs into almost non-existance which. HELLO?? EXCUSE ME???????

First question! Is dagur gonna be included in this au? Do you have anything planned for him (or maybe even Heather? I love their chaotic sibling drama)

I also think your idea of making the Dragon Queen the leader of an underground dragon fighting ring (if i read that correctly) is AWESOME and very freaking cool actually. Is there anything you can share about that arc? 👀

Also, does everyone in the gang pick a part time job? Feeding dragons is EXPENSIVE, and those guys eat a LOT. (This is all just to ask if the twins work in a McDonald's or something. Can you imagine the absolute chaos. Ruff casually taking orders at the drive-thru while Tuffnut is trying to put out the fire. The embodiment of "911 do you take reservations" video)

hi!!! im good. well ... i have a math test today so it could be better but i get to chill out in the morning so thats fun . could be worse

first answer!!! i honestly havent thought of anything beyond the realms of httyd1. the first idea that comes to my head is that they would probably both be villains, but dagur would be keeping some secret about what they "actually" do from heather (maybe because he thinks hes protecting her) and she would find out and want to leave the hunting industry, maybe something to do with windshear.

OK so while the hunting industry is an established trade without legal repercussions (beyond some dragons having protections for economic reasons), the Red Death fighting ring isn't explicitly run by the government. it could be considered illegal (because they often steal dragons legally shot down by the government, like toothless, and put them in the ring), but operates under enough legal loopholes to be known locally and keep running. its located literally underground, and all of their bases are underneath entirely legit buildings, so its tricky to shut down what they're doing without hurting innocent people. the only issue i have thinking about it is that for this arc to work i do want to make the actual red death dragon a human, but i struggle to create a scenario afterwards with other villains (like dagur or viggo) that would raise the stakes enough, considering i want to follow httyd1's plot and have hiccup lose a leg to the red death.

its funny u say that abt jobs!!! i was actually thinking of this while making outfit designs last night, lol. astrid works seasonally at a skiing place and does soccer and dragon racing (though the latter isnt working out too well for her beforehand, and she stops wanting to do it after getting involved in the gang, but feels like she has to keep it up to avoid suspicion), and does online classes at universities abroad. her parents are pretty well-off and she has free reign of a debit card, so she's really useful for buying whatever supplies as long as it can be explained (like she did for the soccer gear they wear). but all the other stuff actually makes her the least available for vigilante bullshit, which shes kind of angry about, because she wants to blow stuff up with hiccup!!!!.

i like the idea of the twins working fast food, thats rlly funny, ajhjkd. though i think ruffnut would be the only one who has a job at the start of the story, and tuffnut would only get one after they have to take care of barf + belch (because he has issues with restraining environments).

i like to think fishlegs also works part-time at a post office. he actually enjoys being there and is really fascinated by stamps, how different codes work, etc and he says it helps him with stress, which flies over everyone else's head

aaaaaa thank u for sending my boy!!!! (also sorry if u saw what i just posted ajdfklsjfk)

Fav thing about them: gonna stop bein h*rny for him for a sec and say that his sass is one of the funniest parts of the series. hiccup’s sarcastic lines were p much the only times i genuinely laughed during riders/defenders of berk. not tryin to shit on the writing here, cuz i get that it’s aimed at kids who probably found the series a lot more funny than i did. just personally not my type of humor. also httyd was my fav movie as a kid (and still is!!) so there’s a little bit of nostalgia mixed in there. he was one of the og faves.

Least fav thing: i mean. what’s not to like.

Fav Line: that one part in riders of berk (im p sure ep19) where he’s called into the great hall and is greeted by a bunch of angry lookin men with no idea as to why and the first thing out of his mouth is “i’d just like to say, in my own defense: i cannot control snotlout or the twins 24 hours a day”. and his “there were dragons when i was a boy” bit from the books, cuz like damn bro. go off.

brOTP: him/fishlegs!!! (them being nerds together is really cute! i wish we could see more of them), toofless, viggo, stoick (good father/son relationship!!! cute!!!!), dagur (their episodes are always really fun :3)

OTP: vigcup (this is basically just httyd version of rhack lol)

nOTP: astrid (god i could go on about how much the Heterosexuality in this series annoys me, but it basically sums up to: “i hate the trope where if the male protag earns enough good boy points, he gets the girl as a reward” + “male and female character: *look at each other* me: oh no” + “i hate being forced to see people kissing”), snotlout (apparently they’re cousins in the books and i like that idea too much to be comfy shipping them romantically), dagur (romantically; some art is still cute but i dont actively like the ship)

Random headcanon: oh! i can actually say this, since you know who im talking about: i feel like he and blake would get along!!! they’re both nerdy sweethearts and i think they would have a lot of fun sharing their ideas for inventions n stuff!! he wears goggles in one episode and literally all i could think was “blake”

Unpopular opinion: 1) his outfit in race to the edge was the nicest one out of any of them, and every time i see him in his httyd 2 or 3 outfit i get disappointed cuz it just looks so dull in comparison. he’s not goth enough to wear all that black and he looks much nicer in red. i just wish it coulda been in one of the movies or smth cuz i woulda loved to see it animated with that quality. 2) i don’t know if this is unpopular or not, but hiccup is a lot stronger than he looks!! that part in zippleback experience when he punched snotlout hard enough to knock several of his teeth out made me so proud :’3 he can sometimes hold his own in a fight, even without toothless. he’s strong enough to block viggo’s attacks during the sword fight in triple cross and when he can’t beat his enemies through pure physical strength (which is always), he finds ways to outsmart them or use his size to his advantage. he may not be as good a fighter as the other riders, but he’s not helpless. 3) beard!hiccup bad. the only character who is allowed to grow facial hair is blake porter.

i just watched homecoming and i’m currently sobbing so i’m spend this post gushing about it (sorry)

first of all, WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THE END CREDITS WERE THE SCENE WHERE THE HADDOCK FAMILY VISIT TOOTHLESS’ FAMILY IT ATTACKED ME OUT OF NOWHERE AND NOW IM SHAKING.

okay nuffink and zephyr’s voices and adorable they’re little mixtures of their parents ahhhh. zephyr is a protective big sister and i’m her for it

hiccup was soo sarcastic and it made my heart melt toothless and nubless were great parent and their babies were so sweet

gobber, man i felt for you bro i miss stoick too. i lowkey wanted hiccup to come close to tears when fishlegs did a spot on impression just to really anchor the idea of missing parents not just dragons even though they had a strained relationship i still feel like ether should show the effects of loss on family. (sorry i’m a media student) ALSO i feel like hiccup should’ve been more angry at the children for throwing snowballs at stoick’s statue, it would be more meaningful to the children saw their chief get genuinely mad or upset instead of gobber (i’m not saying that gobber isn’t important he is i just feel like if hiccup got mad it would have more of an influence) therefore showing how important he really was in berk’s history

BUT overall it was so sweet and i loved the themes of family and memories and the animation was beautiful which if i have to be honest i wasn’t expecting and the children having the mindset of previous vikings was really creative and also how it led directly into the ending scene of the hidden world was great it kinda filled in some of the gaps in between the dragons leaving and visiting them again (emphasis on some)
