what if naolin didn't burn out and die while saving brennan but became venin instead, and more specifically the venin sage?? (that is, if the part about brennan being shot by fen riorson is true)

I just finished reading iron flame and I’m going insane so here are a few thoughts I had

Why did xaden assume the venin came for him??? were her nightmares really his????

Andarna is the one combined = she’s a combination of all the other dragon colours???

Is violet’s dad the sage????????? Is that why they won’t kill violet?????

Where is xaden’s mom????????

THE MARKS ON XADEN’S BACK ARE GREY AND LILITH GAVE THEM TO HIM IS SHE VENIN???? BECAUSE WHEN JACK GRABBED DAIN THE HANDPRINTS STAYED GREY????????

Did lilith request that nolon finds a cure for venin???? was her husband venin????? Is lilith venin because her eyes being bloodshot and bruised is referenced v v often also is that why she couldn’t imbue the wardstone because she would drain it instead????

Sgael literally kept xaden’s second signet a secret from Tairn she deserves better but also xaden can do no wrong in my eyes

Thoughts on Violet’s signet.

(Iron Flame Spoilers)

Rebecca confirmed that Violet is going to have a second signet in book three, that it’s already manifesting in Iron Flame, and that the hints are all there between the lines for us to figure it out. 

I’ve read the posts about how her second signet is probably going to be slowing/stopping time, with how she counted seconds and was able to observe so much, and I’m not saying those are wrong. Actually, I think there’s a good chance this is what’s going to happen. It was such a useful gift in Fourth Wing, and it would only make sense to bring it back, but as something that Violet controls and fuels this time. 

But I also… hope that’s not it? I don’t know how to really say it, but to me, that would be boring in a way. Andarna lost her power, only for Violet to manifest the same power as her signet? Meh… 

Personally, I have another theory. One that could cause a lot of future trouble. Violet’s second signet makes her ‘kind of an inntinnsic’, too. Okay, this might seem boring, too, but hear me out. 

The signets don’t come from the dragons, not from Andarna, but from the rider’s personality and needs. And one of the things Violet needs more than ever after her entire life got turned upside down is information. It’s knowing what’s true and what not. So this could make her a Truthsayer, which is arguably also a ‘kind of inntinnsic’. But that’s not really where I meant to go. 

Her dreams. What if those were never her dreams but always only Xaden’s? What if they didn’t leak through their bond but she read his mind while they were both sleeping? (On my next reread, I’m gonna pay attention to whether those graphic nighmares, the ones where she actually sees the Sage, are happening when Xaden’s close by or not)

But even more important… The way she heard Xaden’s thoughts as he had her on the throne. She thought that ‘his emotions must have flooded their bond’, but what if that’s not it? What if it was she who slipped into his mind? Because the way the narration shifted there felt a lot like how that guy Jeremiah in Fourth Wing babbled the thought of those around him. 

And, arguably, during the entirety of Iron Flame—the time after Andarna’s first growth spurt, where she probably started to channel for real at some point and Violet’s second signet develops—the one thing Violet needs the most… is knowing what’s going on in Xaden’s head. She wants to know the truth, wants to be let in completely. 

So maybe, the reason why Xaden tore away from Violet so suddenly in that throne scene wasn’t because he wanted to fuck her so badly and had to physically restrain himself. Maybe he recognised her manifesting signet for what it was and panicked. Maybe he needed that moment to recompose himself, to play it down, for her sake as well as his own. And maybe, just like with the lightning, it was just an idea, nothing he could be sure of since the power didn’t clearly manifest again after that one incident. Nothing he would talk about until he had to. 

I like the idea of how Violet also being able to read Xaden’s mind levels the playing field between them again. I like the idea of the sheer panic Xaden would feel after learning that’s her signet, knowing what fate awaits her should anyone else learn about it. I like the idea of him sticking around to teach her how to keep it secret, even when he thinks he should stay away from her, since the venin’s craving for power inside him might lead to him harming her.

Iron Flame Spoiler

Okay so hear me out, what if Naolin is still alive but venin? I feel like he turned while saving Brennan but he had to draw from the earth to bring him back. The fact that Violet bonded Naolin’s dragon just feels like it’s going to be significant. Maybe he’s the sage and that’s why he’s trying to get Violet so that he can get Tairn, the second most powerful dragon. Maybe he’s going to try and break that bond so that he can use Tairn. Tairn was unwilling to bond for ages so why did he bond Violet out of the blue? I feel like Tairn knows that Violet can try and save Naolin and that’s another reason why he bonded her. Seeing her save Andarna proved to him that she was worthy and capable of saving Naolin. We know that venin still have the bond but we don’t know the extent of it. I just really feel like Naolin is going to play a very significant part in the next book since Brennan is alive.

This is a theory I’ve had for I while. So in the books I always imagined runes as spirals until we got a description. Geometric shapes stacked on top of each other that get burned into things. What does that sound like to you? To me it sounds exactly like the cover of the book itself. Two geometric shapes, a square and a circle, stacked on top of each other getting burned into the cover. This is just a theory feel free to add to it or tell me how I am wrong.

OK SO THEORY TIME (IRON FLAME SPOILERS)

So I have a feeling, a very strong one, that Xaden will give in to being venin. Maybe not the next book but down the line at some point.

It’s like, you won’t introduce the idea that your MC becomes venin if you don’t wanna fully explore what that plotline has to offer.

So Xaden goes full venin. Good reasons, bad reasons, who knows.

But let’s say he comes back from it. OR he’s full venin but like he still has his conscience. He never wanted unlimited power but the temptation of it made him succumb.

Either way he returns to Violet, venin or otherwise. Or she manages to pull him back. And his self loathing is in full force. He doesn’t believe she could possibly love him.

The one true vulnerability Xaden has shown is how terrified he is to lose Violet. And after going venin and now being faced with her again, he can’t possibly believe she still loves him. Regardless of his intentions in becoming and then committing to being a venin.

But she’s there. And let’s say for these purposes she is fully cognisant of all his reasons for going venin and there have been examples here and there where she sees the true Xaden shining through despite everyone around her dismissing him as a lost cause.

And she’s here trying to show him that’s she’s all in, ride or die, that she still loves him.

But he doesn’t believe.

And Violet, after working so hard to make keeping her shields up as natural as breathing (especially after Xaden, an inntinnsic, goes to the dark side) and after so many betrayals and her actively demanding he never read her mind (and I hope that should he do become full venin he is still determined to never use that power on her), she says one simple line:

“Read my mind”

And Xaden, in this version of events, ever since making that promise to her, has never, even as her opponent, read her mind or even thought about using his inntinnsic powers on her. Even after being coaxed by his venin superiors.

Because he knows what it means.

He knows Violet’s mind is the final frontier of her trust and communicating via their bond is nowhere near the same as being privy to her thoughts and intentions. He knows what it means given their own personal history and her past in facing constant deceit and mis truths.

She trusts him completely.

And for the first time since those initial days of meeting her, he reaches out to her mind and all he gets is a burst of love and warmth and faith in him.

And that’s what changes the tide of the war.

Not Xaden’s strategies or her powers. Instead, it’s something far more simple.

Violet Sorrengail’s love.

I have a mini theory about when and why Xaden killed Aaric's brother Alic. In chapter 12 of Iron Flame the header says is a letter from Xaden stating that Sgaeyl watched him kill another cadet for bullying Garrick, and in Fourth Wing he says in his conscription day speech that the second son of the king didn't survive his threshing. We also get confirmation that Xaden did kill Alic later on in Iron Flame. Is this all referencing the same incident and Xaden killed Alic for bullying Garrick during their threshing?

I hate to break it to you guys, but seeing the dead can’t be Violet’s second signet. Why? Because she was on the signet blocking serum when she saw Liam or else she would have been able to channel lightening.

SPOILERS FOR IRON FLAME !!!

Just a thought I had .. and a theory

Im going through my tabs and skimming through the book making little notes, and I noticed something.

The last chapter, chapter 66, the little not above it says “We have tried every method we know of, as you requested. There is no cure. There is only control -Missive from lieutenant colonel Nolon Colbersy to General Lilith Sorrengail”

Why would Lilith request to find a cure for Venin ? As far as we know, other than Xaden they wouldn’t really need a cure … but I have 2 theories :

1.) Violets Dad is Venin .. I don’t really know how this would work but what if the General or even The Sage is Papa Sorrengail and Lilith is trying to find a cure for him so they can save him ??

2.) I still fully believe Violet is somehow part Venin. It’s kind of hinted at it since the first book : her hair fading of color, same with her eyes and skin. And even when Tarim bonded her he said “I know exactly who and what you are”. It makes me believe that maybe she isn’t fully human and she’s somehow part Venin, or she’s at least part something else.

So what if Lilith was looking for a cure for her daughter … but she died before she could save her. And in all honestly I really don’t think there ever will be a cure other than death .. which is scary to think about but who knows !

I’ve just finished iron flame today, and I wonder

all these dreams that Vi has with Sage…and we know Xaden has them too. Were they really just dreams? Cause it seems like it was fucking real!

The venin said to Xaden that he had already told him that Xaden will turn (venin) for love. And Sage told Vi that she’s gonna break the wards for love, too.

were they communicating via dreams or smth?
