honestly it was a red flag when bbc sherlock went “well obviously the word written in blood isn’t the german word for revenge, it’s clearly the beginning of the name ‘rachel’, what absolute idiot would fail to see that” when in the original novel it is, in fact, the german word for revenge, which sherlock points out gleefully to a roomful of policemen who all figure it’s the beginning of the name ‘rachel.’
and by red flag I mean it was a clear sign that the adaptation was trying to one-up the source material, instead of engaging with it with love.

man, DE fic piss me off a little sometimes asdfgk. i think u guys are greatly overestimating how much police can or are willing to do, and what cases they are incentivized to actually pursue.
when my mom's apartment was broken into a year ago, her next door neighbor literally got one of the guys on camera, and the police basically shrugged and went "sorry! nothing we can do!". when one of the men broke in again a week later, while my sister was home alone, when she could have been attacked, when she saw the guy face to face, again they were like "sorry! nothing we can do!"
which isn't to say i think they should have gone all supercop to solve the case. what the fuck are they gonna do, manhunt the guys across the city based on grainy camera footage? what would my mom and sister even gain from that, what would the community gain from that, having cops hovering around and then maybe throwing two poor guys from the neighborhood into prison? it's just reality that there's only so few resources to solve these things, so many dead ends, and more harm than benefit to the socioeconomic circumstance of the area.
it's just kind of irksome seeing fic casually talk about all the crimes precinct 41 and C-wing are pursuing and solving, when in reality most probably wouldn't even reach their desks before they were waved away as a dead case. or if they did reach their unit, still wouldn't be solved because it's simply too big of a gamble of time and resources. according to pew research center, in the US, about 45% of violent crime cases are solved each year, and only about 18% of property crime. and that's only the solve rate for the reported cases. it is in fact copaganda and simply inaccurate to portray the police as though they make a significant impact on crime, when more than half the time they're going, "sorry! nothing we can do!" 👍

feliciafancybottom replied to your post "It never ceases to amaze me that despite…"
What I don't get is that since they are both such outspoken LGBTQI+ allies, why people would think they'd spend all these years essentially making a joke out out of it. Like, "Yeah we're allies, unless you're talking bisexual polyamory. That's the one exception. In that case we're going to take the piss out of it for 5 years for absolutely no reason! It's what the fans would want" How does that make sense? It's as if it's alright for them to be allies as long as they're only paying lip service. The minute it seems as though they may actually be part of the community themselves, well that's a bit "icky".
@feliciafancybottom Exactly this. What has been noticeable to me is that Michael and David have been doing this for the past five years, but apart from a small group of us, no one seemed to take notice until Georgia and Anna got on board. Like suddenly there was "permission" to talk about shipping Michael and David because Georgia and AL were calling each other "wife," and the thought of two young, blonde women flirting with each other was immediately viewed as more acceptable than two middle-aged men.
Yet despite this, there is still a reluctance--a sense of disgust, even--at the thought of Michael and David actually being in love/having anything other than a platonic relationship. But as you said, this has been going on for five years, and there is no reason for Michael and David to keep doing this just to show what big LGBTQ+ allies they are. It's also long past the point where any of this would make sense as fan service or something being done solely to promote a project.
Taking all of this together, I am downright baffled at people repeatedly stopping short of realizing Michael and David might also be part of the community, and even reviling them for it. I'm not sure what it says about the fandom for a show where the main characters exist outside of preconceived boxes related to gender and sexuality if the worst thing Michael and David can do is fall in love with each other, but I do know that I don't like it...

My initial impression when I watched Eclipse for the first time (and what I still believe) is that Stella knew full well that Ray didn't humilate himself on purpose in the bank when they were kids. I always read it as Stella knowing how embarrased and ashamed Ray would feel for having wet himself, and instead of trying to console him and tell him that it was okay, she let him be the hero instead. Because even though in Ray's memory he thought that he was being 'John Lennon, James Bond, Joe Namath, all rolled into one', I don't think Stella actually fell in love with an illusion at all. Like Fraser said, 'I am willing to gamble that Stella looked beyond that one incident and saw the whole person'. I think she always saw Ray for who he really was, but Ray's own insecurities about himself made him believe that she had to be with him based on a lie. I think the person who doesn't see Ray clearly is Ray himself. He has such a low sense of himself that he can't imagine her falling for anything but a con. He can't imagine that Stella simply fell in love with little Ray Kowalski, because who the hell is even is that? He's convinced himself that he's been playing the part of 'the hero' all these years that he doesn't really see that he has actually become one. The person who recieved all those citations that Fraser recounts wasn't a lie or a con, it was Ray Kowalski, a good policeman, someone who one would be proud to call a partner and a friend. In my opinion Ray's biggest con was conning himself into believing he isn't good enough just the way he is.

Someone explain to me why the dental hygienist WHO I HAD JUST MET said “wow! That dress really makes your green eyes pop!” But the guy I dated for SIX MONTHS always said “I love your brown eyes!” They’ve ALWAYS been green…

Sometimes I feel that Barnaby and Wally have this friendship like big bro/Lil bro, and Howdy being Barnabys bf has to put up with a lot of Wallys shenanigans for Barnaby (doesn't mind cause he also adores Wally I'm a big bro way)
i view them (as a trio) Similarly! though a little to the Left cause i don't view Barnaby & Wally's relationship as big/lil bro. rn to me they're very close friends - borderline queerplatonic! like... Wally is Barnaby's special little guy, yk?
so in my mind, in this trio, Wally's not exactly a. uh. third wheel to Barnaby/Howdy i suppose? oh this is difficult to translate into words - he's part of the relationship without being Part of it if that makes any sense? like of course he's gonna be With them a lot. Barnaby's not gonna be like "ok go do something else so i can make doe eyes at Howdy". that's his Little Buddy. they're gonna Include him as much as possible, i'd imagine. and i doubt Wally would mind being around while they flirt chat. he'd probably love being Barnaby's "wingman"
#and since its canon that all of the neighbors like wally - howdy would probably be delighted to have him around!#who wouldn't want to hang with him??#honestly barnaby could probably show up to one of their dates w/ wally in tow#and howdy'd be like 'oh hi wally! joining us this evening? lets go then!'#honestly i view barnaby/howdy + wally similar to like#a married couple whose best friend lives with them#thats the best analogy i can think of atm#hes very involved in my mind. barnaby is extremely important to him yk?#i like to... muddy traditional relationships and Expected Dynamics#i find it interesting and a bit more real in a way?#like not every relationship - platonic or romantic - is gonna be clear cut or 'typical'#love & relationships are much more varied and nuanced than what is more often than not portrayed#plus idk it sorta rankles when i see platonic relationships sorta sidelined or viewed as something to be 'put up with' by the romantic side#theyre important! and platonic love is not Less than romantic love. its just... different. to the Left.#am i aromantic? i might be aromantic. maybe? idk. am i? hm. something for me to Not think about <3#rambles from the bog#laughingstock#insert meme here of the three of them holding hands#picturing sally introducing them like: this is howdy & this is howdy's boyfriend barnaby & this is barnaby's best friend wally#to be very clear here i do not ship wally with anyone in the Least. like At All. i have thought and pondered on this a lot#hes so aroacepilled in my mind....#and that only frees up space for him to get Funky with his relationships hell yeah you go little buddy#hes living my dream smh. in my head at least#the imaginings i have are Different from canon obviously#which is half the fun!#in canon i hope things get messy as hell. i hope it hurts me as well as the characters#i hope the dynamics i have in my head get dashed against the rocks and then decimated by ocean waves#i hope i can look back upon these posts and cackle evilly at my past self's naivety#future me i just Know you're having a delightfully painful time. enjoy <3 ill catch up eventually <3

You’ve probably been asked this question before, but does the government tax you for your commissions? If so, how?
i do pay taxes on my income yes, the 'how' is bit of a long and boring answer though so im going to put it under the cut (fyi im in australia so my info is only applicable to australians)
-first off, in australia you have a tax-free threshold of about $18,500, govt doesnt really seem to care if you report your earnings under that or not, idk though you should check whether or not you legally Have To. better to stay on the tax mans good side.
-i have an accountant who does the maths and lodges my taxes for me, all i have to do is payg the ATO an amount of money 4 times a year based on my reported earnings
-i report my earnings once a year around july-ish, but if you have a tax agent i believe the ATO tends to give you more leeway on When exactly you do your annual taxes
-i am a registered sole trader, this means that while i run a business, i don't have employees other than myself, so i dont pay the taxes business owners with employees would.
-businesses that make over 70k aud/year have to pay GST, which is a 10% tax on all sales within australia. this does not affect my customers abroad and it does mean my australian customers get a special invoice :)
-if you hold onto your receipts, you can get certain things as a tax write off, ex. new work computer, new drawing tablet, office chair, as long as it is justifiably related to your business and you dont abuse it, on the off chance you get audited youll be safe as houses
-see if any charities you donate to can be tax write-offs too. thats just general advice but plenty of charities are tax deductible so go crazy.

10th circle of hell is being in fandoms where the female character gets in the way of the gay ship. the amount of fucking awful takes i've seen, especially when they have a "not bashing, just airing valid grievances" type of disclaimer and you just know they'd never judge one of the guys in their ship as harshly. let women be annoying. let women have lapses in their judgement. let women be imperfect and stop picking them apart for the heinous crime of being there, for fuck's sake

Hakuba seems to notice something about what KID and Conan are doing, but can he really tell the nature of what is going on there?
Also side note but honestly if Hakuba is gonna put his hand on Conan's mouth to try to shut him up like that, then he should expect to fucking get bit. It's what I'd do for that level of disrespect.

Why is it so hard for people to believe that other people have different preferences in life? I know I’m very ace but I’ve met allos who’ve told me they believe they can have a satisfying romantic relationship without sex, and yet other allos insist that sexual intimacy is 100% important for a relationship and that any allo who says otherwise is in an unhealthy relationship like… can we just acknowledge that relationships don’t always follow a particular formula? People do what suits them best and just because it’s different for YOU doesn’t mean you can determine what is and isn’t healthy for someone else if they’re both happy and content with the way their relationship works

The thing with people who sit and go "well yes it's not said in the books that greens were genetically engineered to be sterile and instead everybody says it's because they chew 'stone, but the golds were engineered to not process stone so clearly the greens were futzed with to be sterile" is that 1) it's a logical leap. I mean seriously. And 2) it assumes Kitti was a fucking moron. And she's supposedly not a fucking moron.
Because you know what the second stupidest thing you could do, if you were creating a new, incredibly important, species and starting with a very small population? You know what it is?
Making it so that only the most rare fuckers can ever breed.
You know why? Because if you, say, start with 10 of those fuckers, and something happens to them that stops them from breeding- illness, injury, clutching complications, death- your fuckers are functionally extinct. And you can say 'well what are the odds' but when your functional breeding numbers are that low? Even what would be low odds for a higher population size are too damn high. Given how much space for Juniors the Weyr's seem to have and use, even the 9th Pass can be estimated to have only around 30 queens at any given time. If only golds can ever clutch, it only takes one unlucky plague to functionally wipe out the entire damn breeding stock of the planet.
Which is why a woman with a brain in her head would make sure that if it came down to it the greens could still clutch, because there's enough of them that the odds are much much lower that they would all get wiped out or otherwise left unable to breed. In a situation like this you need back-ups.
"Oh but Achi, they only clutch small colors-" Small colors are better than no colors, and even then the later books prove otherwise.
"Oh but Achi, Todd was known for retcons-" So was Anne, if we base the canon of these series off of whether the writer ever retconned shit we'd have to toss out damn near all of it.
"Oh but Achi, Kitti was very traditional-" She also wasn't a fucking moron.
Most sensible fucking option is that she altered the dragons to have the processing of 'stone hinder egg production to maximize fighting dragons available while making the golds unable to properly process 'stone to ensure they, as the largest and most maternal clutching rank, wouldn't have their fertility hindered. A desire to keep them out of combat may have also factored, we don't know for sure, that reasoning is purely speculation but in and out of universe.
