If Kit stopped for even a second to think about what he was doing or how he even got here he was worried he might just pass out on the spot.

Actually if Ty wasn't firmly holding onto his waist he straight up might have already just collapsed when teeth sunk into Kit's neck.

Kit let out a shaky gasp. Ty lifted his head briefly to quiet him with a bruising kiss, pushing him further back against the institute wall.

Ty is rough and harsh in a way that fits him. He held a knife to Kit's throat when they first met, after all. He was gripping Kit hard enough to leave bruises, but when he licked a line from his collarbone across Kit's neck, it felt like salvation. Like he was being cracked open and pure bliss and ecstasy was pouring into every fiber of his being. Like Ty was seeping into his bones.

He kisses him again and it feels almost like love.

Kit really tries not to dwell on that thought.

They weren't talking about any of it. It was almost like a silent agreement that they had made the moment Kit first arrived in LA.

Not what happened at Lake Lynn, or at Blackthorn Hall. None of it. Kit didn't want to remember. It was way too painful and Ty seemed to agree. Livvy was gone now, that much he had heard from Dru but he didn't really know the details. He didn't want to. In fact, the only words Kit had spoken to Ty since arriving were roughly ten minutes ago in the living room.

Or maybe it had been twenty, thirty minutes ago. Hell it could have been an hour ago. Honestly, who the fuck could tell.

They were the only two still awake. Kit couldn't sleep because of nightmares, again, and he had no idea why Ty was still awake and had been too scared to ask. Kit paced back and forth in the kitchen for a while, wondering what to say, wondering how to say what he wanted to say.

I miss you. I love you. Please touch me-

But when he entered the living room and stood in front of where Ty was perched on top of the coffee table Kit's mind was blank. It wouldn't be the first time. So instead of trying to communicate like a normal person, what he said was,

"Would you fuck me if I asked?"

Nessie was gonna have a field day with this one.

The truth was, he had heard rumors over the years. Rumors circulating in the downworld and among shadowhunters who knew centurions, or even from centurions themselves. Kit never talked to any of them, but boy did shadowhunters love to run their big mouths in public when they were gossiping about those who they viewed as lesser. And Kit listened.

People said that Ty had become one of the best Centurians that the scholomance had ever seen. They also said that he liked to sleep around, usually in not so nice words. Apparently he never slept with a guy more than once to avoid any sort of attachments forming. As far as anyone at the scholomance knew he had never dated anyone.

Kit thought it might make him feel better, knowing that Ty had apparently rejected the romantic declarations of a number of guys, not just him. But, if he was being honest with himself, it didn't.

Ty stared at Kit for a long moment and Kit was starting to plot his escape when Ty finally nodded.

And now here they were making out against the same door Ty once sat in front of for a week, waiting for Kit to come out.

Ty pulled back from creating marks along Kit's jaw and stared at his eyebrows, avoiding eye contact.

"Tell me what you want." Kit could feel his breath catch when Ty spoke. He ran a finger under Kit's chin, lifting it. "What do you want me to do to you?"

Kit's breath hitched. Holy shit.

Ty had always been blunt, but this? This was a whole different side of him that Kit had never even known existed.

But then again how could he? He hadn't really known Ty for years.

But Kit wanted to. God He really wanted to. He fixed his gaze on Ty's lips, not daring to glance into his eyes.

"Everything," Kit whispered. "I want everything."

Ty's lips were claiming his again in an instant.

"I'm sorry, you did what!?" Alyssa yelled.

Ty winced, grasping his hands over his ears. "Not so loud Aly!"

Alyssa scoffed. "Oh I'm sorry, did you not get enough sleep last night? I'm assuming because you were too busy fucking Kit Herondale's brains out!"

Ty groaned, resting his forehead against his knees. "So it appears in your rage you have forgotten that I am an autistic person with auditory sensory issues."

Alyssa winced. "Shit. You're right I'm sorry." She sat down next to him and he found himself instantly reaching for her hair, twirling strands around his fingers. She smiled solemnly.

"I don't wanna make you feel bad," Alyssa said in a much softer voice. "I just really want you to think about this, okay? Like sleeping with the guy you're in love with is not gonna help you get over him."

"I'm not trying to get over him."

Alyssa looked like she was resisting the urge to yell at him again as she scowled. "So what are you trying to do?"

Ty sighed. He hadn't really stopped to consider it. But if he was truly honest with himself.

"I'm trying to stop Kit from leaving again," he admitted. "I'm trying to get him to stay."

Ally's eyebrows scrunched together. The corner of her mouth crinkled before smoothing out into a frown.

"Ty," she chastised him lightly. There was carefully held tension all throughout her body as she almost froze in place, save for her small breaths. She studied him carefully with a calculating gaze.

Ty couldn't quite tell if she was angry or not, but she wasn't yelling yet. That was a good sign.

"I just," he fiddled with his fingers anxiously, rubbing them together. "I'm not good at knowing what to say. I never say the right thing. I'm not good at being nice. But this is something I can do." He shrugged. "People find me attractive. I know that. This is something I can do to make him stay."

Alyssa shook her head. "Listen to me Sherlock. That is not the only thing you can do. Not by a fucking longshot." She cupped his face with her hand. "You are brilliant and resourceful and resilient as shit. And you are a good person. You are kind. And if Kit or any other man can't see that then screw them!" She paused. "I mean, not like literally."

Ty snorted.

"You're incredible Ty." Alyssa stroked her thumb against his cheek. "Don't forget that."

I love you, Ty wanted to say. Instead he pressed his forehead against hers and bumped her gently.

"You're incredible too, Aly."

She smirked. "Well duh. Of course I am."

Kit swore it would just be a one time thing. After all, Ty never slept with a guy more than once, so he had nothing to worry about.

Or at least that was what Kit thought. Right up until the point Ty was inviting him into his room again three days later.

And what was he supposed to say? No?

Ok fine, he was an idiot.

This time was different though. It wasn't nearly as frantic and hurried. Ty slowly lowered him down to his mattress and kissed him in a way that felt far too intimate to be just sexual. Ty interlaced their fingers together as he held Kit's hands over his head as their bodies moved together, and Kit fought the urge to cry.

It was such a weird experience. Having him so close and yet still feeling like there are an emotional distance of entire chasms between them. Feeling mindblowing pleasure rip through his body as well as soul crushing despair.

The worst part was he could feel himself getting used to it.

So it happened again, and over and over and over again and they still never talked. Not really. But what was interesting was their bodies were starting to sort of develop their own kind of communication, their own language. They were learning each other, what they liked and didn't like, it was a conversation of sorts.

But Kit still didn't know if Ty still loved Sherlock Holmes, or pancakes, or if his favorite colours had changed. He hadn't been able to tell Ty that he wanted to forgive him and put the past behind them. That he still was in love with him. But he fell asleep in his arms every night hearing the steady beat of Ty's heart against his ear.

When he finally told Nessie about it while she was making them breakfast, she just gave him one of her infamous deadpan stares and said, "listen Kit-Kat, coming from someone who has had a lot of casual sex this doesn't really sound casual. And you do remember the part where your asexual right?"

Kit rolled his eyes. "Asexual people can have sex Nessie. You're kinda oversimplifying things."

Nessie crossed her arms. "Ok fine, here's the simple part. You're in love with Ty Blackthorn."

Kit avoided her pointed gaze. "Yeah, so what?"

He felt Nessie come closer. "So, this is your fucked up attempt at trying to be close to him without actually being vulnerable because last time you tried that-"

Kit's head shot up to glare at her. "Yeah I know what happened last time, thanks. I was there!"

Nessie narrowed her eyebrows at him. "Hey! Don't get all pissy with me because the only one that's willing to give it to you straight."

Kit felt the corners of his mouth twitch.

"Don't say it."

"You can't do anything straight," he joked.

"I hate you."

Kit plopped himself himself onto her loveseat. "Nah, you love me. Anyways I appreciate you worrying about me Nessie but I know what I'm doing."

Nessie snorted and went back to cooking his eggs. "That's what you always say before shit hits the fan babe. You know somebody's gotta protect you from yourself."

Kit doesn't admit it. But she's right.

"But why?"

The desperation in Ty's voice nearly broke him. But Kit refused to back down. There was no way he was letting Ty come on a mission that didn't even have anything to do with him. He was the one that The Seelies were hunting.

He refused to let Ty get hurt because of him. He continued down the hall to where Magnus was waiting with a portal.

"Why can't I just go with you? It doesn't make any sense."

Kit turned to face him. "Because it's too dangerous."

Ty scoffed. "I'm a centurian Christopher. I can handle myself a lot better than you can."

Ouch. He knew Ty was being honest but it still stung. Kit glared back at him. "You don't have the powers I do. I don't need you."

And why would Ty want to risk his life for the guy he was casually fucking anyways? It didn't make any sense.

Ty's expression was unreadable as he stepped back.

"Fine. I suppose you've proven that haven't you? After all, abandoning me is what you're good at."

"Ty," he protested.

Ty rolled his eyes. "Go on Kit, go be a hero. I won't stop you."

Kit began to protest, but Ty was already storming off in the other direction.

But when Kit came back many hours later, the battle won, but not the war with Seelie blood on his hands, the first thing Ty did was fling his arms around him.

Ty's fingernails dug into his skin as he held him. It was as if he was trying to draw blood.

Kit welcomed the pain.

"Why won't you look at me?" Ty whispered one night.

Kit's breath hitched and he briefly froze in place, tensing his muscles away from Ty's body. Ty gently reached over and placed a hand against his ribs. Kit almost instinctively found himself relaxing.

"I understand if you're trying to avoid making eye contact with me for my benefit and I appreciate that, but you don't always need to look away." he said. "It feels like you're hiding from me. Do you still not trust me?"

Kit sighed and rolled away from Ty, out of his grasp. "I don't know. Maybe." He pauses, then answers honestly.

"I'm scared that if I look at you I won't be able to pretend anymore."

"Pretend?" Ty almost sounded angry.

Kit sat up and turned his body to face him. However he was still looking down.

"I'm scared that if I look you in the eye I won't be able to keep pretending that I'm not in love with you." He dug his fingernails into the sheets. "I'm scared that everything I felt three years ago at Lake Lynn will come rushing back and I'll remember how badly you broke my fucking heart. I'm scared I won't even care." Kit scoffed.

"I'm scared I'll realize how much I missed you."

"I don't understand," Ty said sharply. "You left me. You don't get to miss me."

At that Kit finally lifted his head. The vibrant cold steel of Ty's eyes swallowed Kit whole.

They were also full of tears. The realization was like a punch in the gut. Ty rarely cried. It wasn't just something he had noticed while living with him, it was something the other Blackthorns repeatedly mentioned.

And yet Kit had made him cry twice.

He shook his head. "Sorry but that's not really how human emotions work sweetheart."

Ty's nose twitched. "Well human emotions are stupid."

Despite the situation, Kit found himself chuckling. "Yeah they kinda are."

Ty wiped his eyes aggressively. "Are you laughing at me?"

Kit gave him a self-deprecating smile. "No, trust me I'm not. If anything I'm laughing at myself. I'm a whole-ass asexual, whose first attempt at sex ended in complete disaster because I hated it so much. And now here I am having supposedly "casual" sex with my ex best friend, currently who-the-fuck-knows what just so I can be close to him because everyone knows he doesn't do relationships!"

Kit threw the covers aside and stood up, pulling on his shirt.

"You're an idiot," Ty uttered with disbelief.

Kit whipped around to face him. "What?"

Ty shook his head. "How on earth could someone so smart be so stupid?"

"Maybe I've been taking pointers from you."

Ty rolled his eyes and pulled one of his knees up to his chest. "Have you ever wondered precisely why I've never been in a romantic relationship? Why I never sleep with the same man twice, but for some reason we've been having sex for weeks?"

Kit crossed his arms definently. "I don't know. I guess I never thought about it."

Ty's eyebrows raised. "You never thought about it? Not once?"

"I guess I just figured this time if you were gonna fuck me it might as well be literally," Kit snapped."

Ty looked like he was about to protest, but instead he paused and took a deep breath, drumming his fingers against his thigh. "Fine. I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what I did, and for dragging you into it."

Kit was honestly a little shocked Ty was actually admitting he made a mistake. That had to be a first.

"The truth is, I miss you too Kit. That might be a strange thing to say when we've been exchanging bodily fluids for the past several weeks, but I do."

Kit felt the corners of his mouth twitch, fighting to form a smile. Eventually he gave in. Ty's face instantly softened when he saw.

"I'm sorry too." Kit confessed. "I'm so sorry for hurting you, for what I said."

"I miss talking to you. I miss making you laugh, hearing you infodump." Kit shrugged. "I just miss being your friend Ty."

"Is that what you want? To be friends? For things to be like they were?"

Kit shifted uncomfortably under Ty's gaze.

"You said that you were in love with me," Ty said pointedly.

"We don't have to talk about that," Kit muttered. "I know you don't feel the same way."

Ty glared at him. "How? Have you developed the power of telepathy along with your other powers? Can you see inside my brain?"

Kit groaned. "Ty-"

"No," Ty interrupted. "Listen to me. Please." Ty slowly scooted towards him so that he was sitting directly in front of Kit. Even sitting down, Ty was still almost as tall as him. His eyes were level with Kit's chest and he made no move to tilt his head upwards to meet his eyes.

Ty bit his lip, as he seemed to search for the words he needed.

"You always seem to focus on what I don't say. You think that my silence proves I don't care. Or that I don't love you because I haven't said those words. But the truth is, what I feel for you can't be conveyed in phrasal combinations; It either screams out loud or stays painfully silent but I promise, it beats words. It beats worlds," he quoted.

Kit dropped to his knees in front of him. Ty still was avoiding his gaze, but at least this way they were closer.

Ty sighed. "I can't even explain how I feel about you without using quotes. A friend of mine says that's common for autistic people. But it continues to frustrate me that I can never find the appropriate words."

Kit hesitantly took Ty's hands on his, rubbing his thumbs against the callused skin.

"You could just say I love you."

Ty's gaze met his own. "It's not good enough," he whispered.

Kit smiled softly at him, reaching out to trace a line across his cheek bone. "It is for me. It doesn't need to be perfect, I just need you to tell me."

There was an agonizing pause before Ty nuzzled his hand.

"I love you."

Kit's heart soared. It was more then good enough.

It was everything.

INTEREST CHECK & ACTIVITY CHANGES!

Don't worry, we haven't forgotten activity checks! Lindsey and I have been working behind the scenes at ironing out some changes to how we do activity checks, to give you guys a little more leniency while allowing us to stay on top of things with less stress / guilt.

Starting on Monday, May 8th, our activity requirements will be changing. Any account inactive for two weeks will be automatically unfollowed. Accounts that are inactive for one week, display inconsistent activity and/or are not replying to open starters will be warned. Checks will be done twice a month -- once at the beginning/end, and once in the middle. That should give people plenty of time in between and also a little more structure. I will have a more detailed post on this on Monday, as well as adjusting our rules then, so if you have any questions, please ask!

Another thing that we are introducing at this point in time is our 'extended reserve for future use' section, in which players can now reserve one face that they plan on developing a character around. Only one, however! We don't want to encourage face hogging, and if a significant amount of time passes, we will reach out to check and see if you're still moving forward with said character. We know (from our own current experiences!) that it can sometimes take much, much longer than one week to properly research and develop a character, and want to extend that courtesy to our writers.

So! To get everyone on the same page and with a fresh, clean start, we are giving everyone this weekend to contact us and interact with this post. If you are good to go, just like it, we'll cross you off the list and your roles are yours. If you need to drop or swap, or pause anyone, or make any changes, let us know! Happy to help.

It's a mess. A catastrophe. A fucking swirling giant black hole of words and concepts and shit that straight up just don't make sense.

Kit sat on his bed in his room at Cirenworth trying not to let his emotions spiral into fucking oblivion as he did his science homework. Or at least was trying to.

Trying being the key word here.

It was annoying because normally if he found the right way to make his brain process the information then it wasn't that complicated. But the font on these textbooks is small and cramped together and sentences bleed and crash into each other like a giant tsunami or some shit and Kit's just left with this overwhelming feeling of helplessness.

The same helplessness he felt in his classes, trying to listen to the teacher and actually do what he was supposed to be doing for once but then like always his mind would just end up wandering without his permission. He would just drift off and float away, not taking in anything the teacher had said. And now here he is, left with his confusion and his crushing stupidity.

So stupid His brain reminded him. He is so fucking stupid. Worthless waste of space.

Kit took a deep breath and tried to refocus on the page in front of him, tapping his fingers on the illustration of cells. He hummed under his breath to calm himself, Knights of Cydonia by Muse.

He couldn't help but think that if Ty were here he could probably explain it in a way that made sense. Kit waved that thought away. Kit had been struggling in school for a while now but this past term had just really taken the cake. Junior year was kind of a hellscape, his friends agreed, but Kit seemed to be struggling more.

He kinda saw this coming seeing as he had literally homeschooled himself for the majority of his life because Johnny didn't care enough to do it himself. His heart squeezed a little at the memory of his father and how he just never really gave a crap. It had taken a long time for Kit to stop blaming himself and start feeling anger towards Johnny for what happened. Therapy and talking to Tessa and Jem helped, but there was still this nagging feeling deep down that he didn't deserve this kindness, this kind of care.

Like it was all an illusion or a trick, or they just wanted something from him. He still had the urge to transform, to try and become whatever they wanted to make them happy. It was an urge that, according to his therapist would fade with time.

Kit wasn't so sure. Sometimes it just like he was going around in circles.

His angsty spiral was interrupted by the sound of his ringtone telling him he got a text. He sighed, exasperated and flung his textbook closed, picking up his phone.

Nessie: Hey I got a gig tonight u wanna come?

Nessie: Mari and Lizzie are coming

Crap. Kit desperately wanted to go. Music was his cure-all for feeling like shit and he always wanted to hang out with his friends. But there was no way he could make it and get his homework done.

Stupid brain.

He knew Nessie would get it, but still. He forced himself to put his phone down and turn back to what he was attempting to read. He had seven questions from the textbook to do. Technically that wasn't not too bad. It shouldn't take that long, and yet.

Kit had been there for three fucking hours.

He stuck his pencil in his mouth and begun to chew. His text notification beeped again.

He tried to ignore it. He really did.

It didn't work.

Kit grabbed his phone, feeling a weird sense of anxiety brewing in his gut for some reason. He knew Nessie wouldn't be mad but he was still afraid.

Nessie: Do u need help?

So so much. Like everyday all of the time. But Kit couldn't tell her that.

Kit: no offense but didn't u barely graduate?/lh

Nessie: Fuck you/lh Do u want my help or not?

Kit laughed out loud. There's never been a mood so sour that his best friend couldn't pull him out of it. He was kind of not feeling great about the idea of Nessie helping him because the two of them together had a tendency to get side tracked and she had a gig to get to.

But he felt crushed and empty and overwhelmed. He can admit that he needed help. More importantly he needed her.

Kit: ok sure 😊

Kit: thanks nessie 🥰

Nessie: Don't mention it love.

Janessa moved fast, being a vampire and all so it didn't take her long to get to Kit's house. He played some music from his phone while he waited, The Pretty Reckless. He had just started Medicine when he heard a knock on his bedroom window.

His friend was eagerly perched on his windowsill wearing what Kit assumed was her outfit for the gig tonight, black leather pants, a tight black halter top with metal chains holding the fabric of the two sides of the shirt together, and what probably passed in Nessie's mind as reasonable heels. Simple black boots that are only four inches.

Her long dark curls billowed around her in the wind which seemed to be pretty harsh. But Kit knew Nessie wouldn't suffer the cold. She knocked more impatiently against the glass and Kit paused his music, getting up to push the window open.

"Finally!" She groaned, leaping down into his room with all the grace of a creature of the night. "I was out there for fucking forever."

Kit playfully rolled his eyes. "It was literally only two seconds. You're just impatient as shit Nessie."

She glared at him in a nonthreatening way. "Hey I'm the one who ran all way here. I did exercise for you! Exercise Christopher!" Her lips turned up slightly as though she were trying not to laugh.

Kit snorted. "You're a vampire, babe, nothings exercise for you anymore," he pointed out.

Nessie shifted on her feet and crossed her arms in that the way she did when she didn't want to admit she was wrong. "Yeah whatever."

"So what's this crap?" She bounced herself onto his bed and picked up his textbook.

"That's the source of my crushing defeat," he grumbled, flopping back down. "I just can't get my brain to work."

"Mood," Nessie said with a smirk. She had ADHD which she was still unmedicated for seeing as vampires couldn't take any medications and she hadn't been diagnosed until it was too late. Until she was already dead.

She had told him about feeling such intense mood switches that sometimes she could hardly control, being distracted by everything to the point where sometimes she couldn't concentrate on anything and having periods of being stuck where her brain just wouldn't let her do anything. It all sounded a little frighteningly familiar.

But he wasn't like that. Kit didn't have ADHD. He wasn't struggling that badly, it was still manageable. Sort of. Things were just really shitty sometimes.

Nessie sighed. "Ok. This doesn't make any sense."

Kit groaned. "See I told you!" He ran his hand through his hair frantically. "It's fucking senseless! Or maybe I'm just fucking stupid. I know that's probably what my teacher thinks."

Nessie's head snapped up. "What? The fuck did they say?" Kit could see her fangs through her snarl. She was getting into full protective Janessa mode.

Kit moaned softly, burying his face in his hands. "Oh you know," he rubbed his face. "Just that I should have been paying attention the first time. And he said that if I wasn't always zoning out in class then maybe I would have a better grasp of the material."

"Jackass," she hissed, tossing the book to the ground. "Don't listen to that prick he doesn't know you."

Kit brought his knees up to his chest. "I don't know. Maybe he's right. Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough."

Janessa had a strange look on her face, almost like she was trying to suppress an emotion that wasn't on brand. One that showed vauneability. She shook her head, bitting her lip. "No, Kit-Kat you're doing the best you can with what you're got. Believe me I know."

Kit felt tears form in his eyes. "But it's not good enough. It's never good enough."

And that's when Nessie broke, throwing her arms around him and pressing him to her chest. Her bones were digging into him and his cheeks were burning from the tears sliding down his face but he felt safe.

He felt loved.

Janessa always claimed that she wasn't an affectionate person, that she didn't like being soft. It seemed like Kit was her Achilles Heel. "You are good enough, always," she murmered. "More then good enough for me. Fuck everybody else."

They clung to each other in silence. Two broken battered and unwanted souls. Unsure of how to love, but trying anyways.

Kit eventually pulled himself away. "You're gonna miss your gig. Think of all those poor queer alt rock fans you'll be letting down."

Nessie snorted. "Yeah well, too fucking bad. You and I are gonna sit here and figure out what the hell symbiosis even if it kills me."

"You're already dead."

"You know what I mean," she grumbled, prompting up Kit's textbook on her knees. "Do you think it would help if I got my phone to read it out to you? Like an audiobook?"

Why the fuck hadn't he thought of that?

"I mean maybe?" Kit sighed. "Sorry I just feel so stupid."

"Hey!" She chastised him. "You are not stupid. You are incredibly fucking smart. You just have a different learning style and nobody doing shit to support that. Also I know you don't wanna hear this but you probably have ADHD."

Kit pouted. He really didn't feel like having this conversation again. "Nessie can you please just help me get this done?"

She looked like she wanted to argue but decided against it. "Fine. Game faces on. Let's get it done." She picked up her phone.

Kit nodded, picking up his notebook and pencil. "Hey Nessie?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks."

She smirked. "Don't mention it Kit-Kat." She scrolled through her phone, probably looking for the textbook online so google could read it out loud. She began to hum under her breath.

Kit recognized the song. Not right away but as an old song he only partially remembered the words to. But the more he thought about the more it came back.

I'm a mess in a dress can't show up in time, even if it would save my life, according to you, according to you.

But according to him-

Kit felt a grin spread across his face. Nessie wasn't looking at him but he could see she was smiling too.

Tragically, the Waller Family has seen 2 Children die unexpectedly, as of 2020. First, in Fall 2005, Isaac Wallace (b. 1980) contracted an infection while doing missionary work in Mongolia. He died ~1 Month later while en route to South Korea for emergency treatment. He was 25 Years Old. Then in October 2019, Rebecca Christine (b. 1997), got into a fatal car crash at Age 22. She made a left turn against a red light, and was hit by an oncoming semi–truck.

The 2nd–Gen. Wallers’ Paternal Grandparents are Wallace + Adeline (Kinseth) Waller, while their Maternal Grandparents are M. Donald Blom (1926–2017) + Patricia (Dillree) Blom (1930–2018).

Gloria Steinem Gave Meghan Markle A Bracelet With A Special Message

Earlier this week, Meghan Markle had feminist icon Gloria Steinem over to her garden in Montecito, California. During the talk, which was recorded, the two discussed representation, doing what you love, and the importance of young people voting in this election. For the chat, Steinem wore her signature oversized glasses and all-black. Markle, on the hand, looked summery in a white T-shirt, striped Anine Bing trousers, and a big, straw hat courtesy of Janessa Leoné. It was the Duchess’ subtle choice of jewellery — that was gifted to her by Steinem! — that most caught our eye during their chat.

On Markle’s left wrist was a charm bracelet inscribed with a very meaningful message: “Imagine we are linked, not ranked,” referring to the importance of women not comparing themselves, but, instead, joining together to empower each other. The bracelet retails at £36.15 via Maiden Nation. In the interview, Steinem says that the phrase, for her, is the “shortest way [she has] ever found to say what [her] goal is.” To this, Markle responded: “It means everything to me on every level. We are linked, not ranked.”

Unfortunately, both the red and black colorways of the Imagine We Are Linked Not Ranked bracelet are currently sold out. But: A restock is coming!

This is hardly the first time that Markle has worn jewellery with meaning. During a trip to Botswana in 2017, the Duchess of Sussex was photographed wearing the “Hamsa Ring,” a symbol of good luck and health, from Turkish jewellery designer Kismet by Milka. She wore the ring again in 2018 while she was pregnant. Following Archie’s birth, Markle debuted an eternity ring, a symbol of eternal love and circle of life. Her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, also received an eternity ring from Prince William following the birth of their first child, Prince George. Markle has also been known to wear a Mummy necklace in honour of Archie.

Given the important message, it’s only likely that this new bracelet will be another regular in Markle’s jewellery rotation.

Chapter three: These invisible walls just couldn't keep us safe.

Dru picked at the skin surrounding her nails as she sat outside Ty's room. She wanted to give him and Kit the space to talk, but being away from her brother while he was like this made her feel horribly anxious.

Deep down she knew it was pointless, worrying. There was nothing she could do to help, nothing she could do to save him. Her family was going to be torn apart again.

Her parents, Livvy, and now Ty.

Dru felt tears on her cheeks before she had even realized she was sobbing. Blood was beginning to appear around her nails. She shook her head and went for a tissue.

This place had never really been a home. Not really in the traditional sense. They had been trained for war practically since birth. Their father hadn't been the warmest man from what Dru could remember, but she had mainly been raised by Julian. He had showed them so much love. He had tried to keep them safe, to make this place a sanctuary.

Drusilla make her way down the stairs. At the top of the stairway Livvy and Ty used to lean over the stairwell and gossip and giggle about the things that were happening below. That would never happen again.

She stopped in her tracks at the base of the stairs and let out a choking sob.

"Dru?" "Sweetheart?" She turned towards the sound of the voice.

Jules was standing in front of her.

He and Emma had been in Japan when Ty started getting sick. She had held off calling them until she knew it was serious. Dru didn't want them to freak out.

Honestly she mostly just didn't want it to be real. Calling them, calling everyone would make it real. It would mean Ty was really dying.

Jules looked exhausted. He clearly hadn't slept or shaved in days.

"Are you ok?" He asked her.

Dru couldn't say anything. She just cried. Julian shook his head sadly.

"Oh Dru, by the angel I'm sorry." He pulled her into his arms, squeezing her tightly. "Of course you're not ok. None of us are."

She buried her face in his shoulder, wheezing in short choking breaths. Dru had so many memories of sobbing in Julian's arms as a child. There had been so much loss. But through it all she always had the strength of her family behind her and the comfort of knowing that Jules would always be there to hold her. To protect her.

"We're not giving up." Emma spoke up. "Mark and Cristina are in New York working on a cure, Kieran promised he would look through texts in faerie that might help, and-"

Dru pulled back from Julian. "Wait Mark's not coming home?" She glanced over to where Helen was sitting on Aline's lap on the couch. She looked equally as concerned.

Dru knew Helen was probably thinking the exactly same thing she was.

What if Mark doesn't get the chance to say goodbye?

Dru didn't want to give up. But she couldn't keep looking for a cure that didn't exist. She couldn't keep frantically pouring over books that held no answers.

She was just so tired. Tired of being afraid. Tired of always losing someone.

She took a step back and surveyed the room. Thaìs was hovering by the kitchen with Janessa by her side looking broody. Tavvy was asleep on the couch next to Helen and Aline, and-

Oh shit. Alyssa was missing.

How long had Alyssa been missing?

Dru turned frantically back towards Jules.

"Hey Jules, random question but did you see a girl with long dark hair when you came in?" She asked. "Filipina with dark brown eyes? She was wearing a white frilly shirt and jeans." Dru was met with blank looks from Jules and Emma.

So that was a no. Great.

Dru sighed and plopped down on the base of the stairs. "Whatever, it's the least of our problems right now. But if Ty asks where she is then we gotta find her."

Jules took off his jacket, hanging it bu the door. "Where is Ty? I want to see him."

Dru nodded. "He's in his room. I think he's asleep though. Kit's with him."

"Uh guys?" She heard Janessa's voice from above her. Dru spun around to see her at the stop of the stairs, leaning against the railing. She must have whooshed by her when Dru wasn't looking.

Damn vampires.

"Kit isn't there. I just checked."

Dru had never seen Janessa look even remotely scared. But now as she dug her finger nails into the railing and clenched her jaw, she looked worried. And for Janessa that was practically flat out terror.

"And that's not even our biggest problem," she continued darkly.

"I think I know where he is."
