... Muriel enters the hut. He's drenched in sweat too, and first thing first, he gets out of his clothes and tosses them aside before slumping on the bed next to you, eyes closed. You hear his heart pounding in his chest, tired by the heatwave just like him, as his hands reaches yours, brushing it with the tip of his fingers. You stay like this for hours, until the merciless sun finally gives in to the sunset.

Then his hand reaches for your waist, pulling you on top of him.

... the door slightly opens, and Portia's witty face peaks trough the crack. Her smile widens as she sees you, and after a quick glance behind her she slips inside closing the door behind her back. "I guess milady's flowers can wait..." she whispers as her lips brushes your hand. "Or maybe she'll come looking for me. But would you be sorry if she were to find us like this?", she winks.

... Lucio enters the room, looks at you from behind his sweat drenched hair covering his forhead, and announces: "great idea". In a matter of seconds he joins you, his cold metal hand sending the best kind of chills up your spine. He looks at the sky-colored canopy over the bed, looks at you with that familiar child-like light in his eyes and whispers "Make it cloudy". Points up. "The canopy. Make it cloudy! Make it rain! Can you???".

You wonder how this man can be so silly and so genius. With a snap of your fingers, a single drop falls on the bed. Then another, and another, and another one. Lucio starts giggling, then laughing, taking you into his arms and kissing you through his laugh. "Oooh, you're the best!"

... Julian comes back home. "What a day!" he huffs, before starting to ramble about what happened at the clinic. You smile silently. Keeping the bed on the right of the door has its perks with Julian. "... and then a kid reached for the leeches -why do they do that, do leeches looks like candies?- and almost knoched it over when..." he abruptly stops.

"Oh dear" -his tone changes- "it looks like you got hit by a heatstroke... yes, the temperature of your skin shows it, and your lips too". You feel his dramatic sigh on your neck. "I must proceed with a deeper check..."

... Asra climbs the stairs of the bedroom. He smiles. "Here you are! What a weather today, uh? I really can't think of a way to refresh myself". You don't think he's messing with you: Asra and you are so used to such level of intimacy. He sits on the bed. A mischievous smile crosses his lips. "Unless..."

You let out a scream in surprise as you feel the bed dissolving into cool water under your back, before the water covers your mouth. You hear Asra laughing from the other side of the surface, right before diving in next to you.

... Nadia enters your bedchamber. She is followed by a couple of servants and has a big list of things to do into her hands, and she's instructing her helpers about the heatstrokes prevention program. They stop in front of the bed. "O... Oh. I, hem, I thought you were at the shop...", she mutters, before realizing there are people there with her. She turns towards them, and manages to put together a crumble of dignity. "You're dismissed. I'll send for you when I'll be done with some... ehm... urgent matters".

The servants bow and run out, embarassed. Nadia turns "Oh I'm sorry, so sorry my dear, I didn't mean to embarass you...". Her flushed face is so funny that washes away any embarrassment from you. "I will make up for it", she continues, "Just ask, may I go to get you something to... I don't know, to eat? Another bath, or maybe you want to go on vacation somewhere? A poem! I can apologize with that, for sure, or sing...?" She stops when she notice the look into your eyes. There's no need for clarvoyance to understand what kind of apology you'd like right now!

[Ep. 16] The Beach Episode Spa Arc

Well… I can’t argue with the numbers. I was going to give Julesx2 the chance to stay if their relationships with each other weren’t higher than their bars with Daniel: but lo and behold, these two have been building up their relationship more than I thought!

Being in control of Dan alone has its perks, but it also means I rarely ever see the relationships the contestants are building with each other - I knew these two spent a lot of time together, but damn! By the time this happened with Daniel literally just upstairs, it seems like Julien and Julian have found their perfect match: while it isn’t with our Bachelor, I think we should be happy for them regardless! 🥹

They will be getting a proper send-off post after we see a small moment of Daniel, Alone, going to grab a coffee before the next Rose Ceremony’s planning. To @mattodore and @morrigan-sims, thank you both for these darling, darling boys! They really are very happy together 🥹

something ive noticed while reading the mortal instruments is an annoying trope that happens lots in ya fantasy: the "strong female protagonist" (clary) who's never more powerful than her boyfriend (jace). its just so annoyingggg

Clare does it covertly (or “covertly”). On paper, Clary’s powers and abilities are greater than Jace’s. Jace is physically and physiologically superior Shadowhunter, but Clary can utilize somewhat powerful magic in ways others cannot. Yet narrative-wise Jace is the best, the most graceful, the most amazing thing ever to happen to the Nephilim, while Clary talks down on herself, compares herself constantly to Jace and how clumsy she is in comparison (not mentioning the fact that Jace has trained his whole life while she has just begun, at least in terms of books 1-3). How Jace’s hair looks better and she is disheveled while taking a tumble down a hill et cetera. Nobody hypes up Clary like the writing has everyone hyping up Jace, friends and foes alike.   

Emma is the best Shadowhunter of her generation—though I feel like they are all the same generation, lol—and has a legendary weapon to up her abilities. Yet Emma’s Jace-level skills don’t really matter in terms of the story and add nothing to anything. She could be completely average and the story doesn’t necessarily change (compare to Jace whose powers help him in battles and escape actual dire situations), because most of what Emma is as a Shadowhunter is tied to her ownership of Cortana. Julian, however, is such a badass schemer, such a wannabe Petyr Baelish, so ruthless and thus so amazing, and it is for him that the story kicks forward on occasion. It’s him that creates Livia’s Watch, he who schemes to keep his family together, he who knows how to play the Clave’s games. I am surprised again why Emma is the protagonist at all.

All of this aligns with the similar theme where the heroine is not really the protagonist rather than the observer of the amazingness of the male protagonist. Which is excruciatingly obvious especially with Clary/Jace and Emma/Julian.

Tessa has a power of shapeshifting, she is Nephilim and warlock—though I still don’t really know can she cast proper spells?—she even harnesses the power of an angel at the end of it all, yet we keep mourning the difficult life of Will Herondale who isn’t even that impressive a Shadowhunter. James does not count because he is a stale bread and as sharp as a marble ball, so having Cordelia up him as a protagonist doesn’t require much. Though, again much of her is tied to the ownership of Cortana because names and objects carry more weight and meaning than the actual character and content in Clare’s writing.

So yes, on paper these girlies are badasses and thus it’s easy for Clare to deflect the criticism on the subject, very similarly as she has done with Jace all these years. She just seems to forget that concepts are all fine and dandy but mean nothing if they don’t matter in terms of the narrative you create. Like, Clary can be as powerful as you make her but when you treat her as lesser, what do her powers then matter.

For Talk Shop Tuesday (if you're still taking these) if you were to write an isekai AU for the Flash, who would be the character flung from the real world into the other world and why?

I think I would have to play up it up (at least at first) as a comedy. So Julian, who is from our world but only read some Wally comics in the 90s and was more interested in Batman anyway, whose only context for this show even existing is he knows his younger sister watches it and she'll talk about it sometimes, is flung into this fictional world presumerably because of Flashpoint (and for extra extra confusion, Julian is English, I think s2 we were only a week behind, though I can't remember exactly and the gaps got longer and longer as the show went on, so the one person who might have been able to give him context has not seen the episode yet)

He is having The Worst time. Nothing is like the little he remembers from the comics. His attempts to get home have all failed and he can't possibly just show up at S.T.A.R. Labs now, he tried getting a job in the crime lab in an attempt to find a way to talk to Barry and the two of them immediately clashed because Barry has no idea who this guy is and Julian is blaming him for being stuck there (and maybe he's met Savitar already, as part of his first attempt to find a way home, and he might not remember afterwards, but there's some residual resentment hanging on). Everything is confusing and he really wishes he paid more attention when Emma was telling him about this stuff.

Eventually he manages to tell Cisco what's up, and Cisco manages to breach him home post s3 (hence he's never shown up again). While on our Earth Cisco grabs a Flash comic to show Barry when he gets back, he's pretty sure Barry's going to enjoy that.

I still don't understand why didn't they include Fedyor and Ivan in season 2? They added hundred new characters but cut the ones that the audience actually cared about and they wonder why people stopped watching the show. It's almost like they wanted it to flop this hard.

I think there were some issues with both actors- covid and clashing schedules if I remember correctly.

As much as I loved their performances or to be more precise- because I loved them so much, I'm glad they weren't involved in the end. The second season was worse than abysmal.

This way we can pretend Ivan crawled out of the Fold, found Fedyor, who barely escaped First Army slaughters, but due to their injuries they weren't able to join the Darkling in time, and moved to the Eastern Mountains after they healed, because there's no place for them in Lantsov Ravka anymore. And no one cares much about that area, so they'll be free to live hard, but happy and free life.

if you don't mind much, what was every thought that crossed your mind during ray persons scenes in gen kill?

every single thought? anon, don't tempt me

that being said, i shall give the people what they want! so ray is the kind of annoying that i live and breathe for. the kind of annoying that makes me wanna open up his brain and dive inside. just pure unadulterated unhinged energy! zero shame or dignity present in that one. none whatsoever. but it's endearing y'know? i wanna tell him to shut the fuck up but i also want him to live in my pocket and give me a running commentary on my life?

i didn't wanna love him at first. it's gonna sound weird but it felt too predictable for me to go for yet another smartass idiot who can't for the life of him know when to shut the fuck up. so i kind of rebelled against myself and held out for a while. eventually though, he did wear me down and i did find myself shaking my head disapprovingly but smiling fondly alongside brad. i think though it was the deeper aspects of his character that finally drew me in, the ones that you have to look deeper into, in the shorter scenes that maybe don't seem that important but have subtler little details.

and if we do wanna get deep about it then i always enjoy a character who clings desperately onto humour and sheer absurdity as a coping mechanism. it's pretty clear that ray falls within that category and i did enjoy getting to see a little bit of how he reacts when he can't reach for that coping mechanism as easily, when he's too exhausted and fed up to pull the mask on.

another thing i noticed that made me appreciate him from just a really small action is in the episode where everyone is trying to cheer walt up. ray uses his method of being a comedic annoyance to give walt some kind of normalcy that he probably isn't getting from the others, who are trying to reassure him and look after him in a more direct and 'impactful' way. but ray decides to go and basically dry hump his head and say stupid shit and yeah, walt is a bit irritated bc of everything he's dealing with, but as a viewer, we get to see ray actively using the way the other marines see him to try and give walt a sense of "nothing is going to change, you're still you and i'm still me". whilst brad, nate and espera are there basically outwardly telling him not to worry (and walt needed that too, i love my dads <3), ray takes a much subtler approach in supporting him. which when you think about it, really is the opposite to how we talk about ray usually. he's anything but subtle generally, so i think this little bit of information and look into his character, and intentions, was something that just really stood out to me bc he chose that approach for walt, imo at least. i know it's a tiny tiny scene but it just helped confirm a lot of my thoughts about how ray approaches things and how, sure, he is naturally unhinged and doesn't think before he speaks a lot, but sometimes, you can actively see him using that humour and those jokes and all his ridiculous antics to pull his friends out of whatever dark crevice their mind has fallen into. he does it with brad as well. i feel like his actor portrayed those purposeful moments really well also, because for me, i could tell when he was just being ridiculous and himself and talking shit, and when he was playing it up to keep others focused on him and not the other shit going on around them. anyway. this is one of the reasons i love his character and his portrayal a lot. it's not lost on me that it actually is a back-and-forth with ray that eventually pulls walt out of his downward spiral either, at least surface-level. it was a team effort, but ray continuing to prode him eventually got him to 'snap out of it' and feel like he was being treated normally.

and as much as i loved his comedic scenes throughout the series, and all his songs and ways of keeping everyone entertained, i really enjoyed his portrayal and depiction in the last two or so episodes, where you start to notice the mask slipping. it's thrown back on pretty quickly, but i appreciated that we got that small insight into how everything has actually affected him and it actually felt different afterward. he goes back to being a smartass and being the annoying friend who never shuts up, but you can see he's changed somewhere deep down underneath as well.

and the fact that it's his final look toward trombley that kind of sums up the conclusion of the show and the true realisation about what they did there. i don't know if i can explain it coherently yet, i guess i'm still processing what i'm trying to say about that final scene. i'm sure it's been said a thousand times by someone, a lot more eloquently that i ever could, but his final look really spoke volumes to me. his reaction to trombley and the video and then finally walking away felt like a confirmation of the message that the show presents to us throughout the whole series, but which they let us pick up and spin around for a few episodes to fully absorb, before letting ray finish it up with a single look. idk, maybe i'm just rambling.

maybe this is completely different from what you were asking for anon, so i'm really sorry if it disappoints you, or you were just looking for silly commentary on all the unhinged shit that comes out of his mouth lmao but yeah. i am a little bit obsessed with ray person. i truly would like to examine his brain up close.

Another Star Trek headcanon (that is partially canon). Humans have cured basic vision impairments. Myopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism are all corrected shortly after birth as standard procedure for human children. Optometrists will only see a patient when they're born or when there's an injury that requires their oversight to treat.

This isn't the case for every other species though. Certain species just don't have the kind of benign vision impairments that humans have. Ferengi for instance all have close to perfect vision save for a few very rare cases. Humans are unique in that such a large number of them are born virtually blind and need corrective surgery to survive and as a result, they've perfected preventative surgical treatments.

This does however mean that when a federation doctor encounters a species who's still using corrective lenses for refractive errors, they aren't entirely sure what to do. Cardassians for instance have a relatively small number of visually impaired people and can't utilize the federation's surgical technology because it can increase their already problematic light sensitivity. So Garak, being stuck on DS9 is in the awkward position of not being able to get a hold of contact lens solution or see someone who's specialized in testing for and crafting the appropriate lenses for his vision and has to rely on Julian's clumsy attempts at Cardassian optometry.
