Day 12: Gift Exchange

Finally, the day for the Secret Santa gift exchange was here and the Common Room was packed with various groups of soldiers laughing and opening their gifts. Levi, Y/N, Eren, Mikasa, Armin and Hange sat around a small coffee table laden with gifts, Hange handing out the gifts one by one.

Eren had been gifted chain to wear his father’s key around his neck without it falling off so easily, the old string was worn down now and definitely on its way out, he slid the key out of his pocket and onto the chain, placing around his neck with a smile. It may be a useless object, but it was a piece of home. Mikasa had been gifted a pair of gloves to match her scarf, the shade of red matching perfectly, even if they weren’t as old and battered. Mikasa smiled, running her hands along the soft material before placing them in her lap. Armin had been gifted a tattered old book, but his face lit up when he read the cover. “Keep it safe, it’s forbidden.” Hange whispered feverishly, Levi clicked his tongue, she clearly hadn’t gotten the hang of the whole secret part… Idiot. Hange opened hers, revealing a beautiful leather-bound notebook, perfect for field work. Levi knew right away that Y/N had been Hange’s Secret Santa, he sent her a knowing glance as Hange pulled a pencil from behind her ear and immediately began scribbling away, stopping only when she realized there were two more gifts to be unwrapped.

Y/N smiled awkwardly as she opened her gift, it always made her feel a little awkward to have all eyes on her as she delicately unwrapped the paper. Out of the paper, she pulled a soft brown bear, her soft spot for soft toys had clearly been recognized. She attempted to downplay her excitement as she urged Levi to open his own. Levi unwrapped the paper to reveal a beautiful China teacup. He swallowed, nodding at the gift to show approval. His mind cast back to his old Christmases, replaying the look of anticipation on Isabel’s face as he unwrapped his gift from the Gang: A teacup.

“Hey, you okay?” Y/N asked once the group had dispersed. It was not just her and Levi snuggled together, Levi wasn’t one for PDA so she knew something was a little off. “Yes.” He sighed, “It just reminded me of the old days.” He added, she nodded, putting her new bear in his lap. “Well I’m here, okay? And so is bear. Help me name him.” She smiled, maybe if she could take his mind off his fallen friends. He studied the bear for a moment. “(Bear’s name) he answered, leaving the stuffed toy in his lap and kissing Y/N on the forehead, “But I’m still your number one cuddler, okay?” “Okay.”
