'Glory' exudes confidence and maturity but lacks the glorious-fantasy that intends to share.

Back in 2016, Britney Spears was dominating Las Vegas with her 'Piece Of Me' residency, achieving sold-out shows and revamping her show with new tracks from her, until today, last album: 'Glory'.

In the second week of May 2020, four years later, the album was back on the first spot of charts like iTunes thanks to Britney's 'army' joining on a campaign called #JusticeForGlory with the goal to give the album the recognition and promotion it deserved back on 2016. So this time, we were obligated to remember and re-listen to the album that celebrates with a new art cover as the original concept to the album.

Britney opened her album with 'Invitation' a track meant to be an introduction to her so-called glorious "conceptual" album. On 'Invitation', Britney talks about losing inhibitions and surrendering to her emotions, an angelic invitation to freedom and liberation that works as a mood-setter for the album and makes Britney sound comfortable with whispering vocals and seductive melodies.

The first single was 'Make Me' with a nonsense feature by G-Easy. And truth be told, the verses and performance of him combine well with the track and Britney's classic vocals, but her image and appearance on the video feel uncomfortable and a little amateur for an artist like Spears. The BURNS production was forward-looking pop with a glimpse of today's 'Stupid Love' by Gaga en Popblood.

Even if the lyrics were all about sex-appeal and sexual invitations, the official music video suffered a replacement for an almost none interesting version. The official concept by David La Chapelle was scrapped ironically for being 'too sexual' and leaked almost three years later to delight her fans with aesthetics that inspired the original cover art too.

Yes, Britney's persona is built in its most by sex connotations, and 'Glory' didn't fail on showcasing this part of her image. Songs like 'Do You Wanna Come Over', a neon dance-pop fantasy, and 'Slumber Party' featuring Tinashe succeed in its suggestive style. The last one, a slow bubbling collaboration was also the second and last single off 'Glory' and its music video presented a dreamy fantasy that suggests everything but sleeping.

In an upsetting fail to chose wisely the songs for the standard version of the album, 'Private Show', an odd and boring production entirely thought to be a soundtrack for a fragrance ad, made it to the list leaving behind Britney's new-classics like 'Change Your Mind (No Seas Cortes)' and 'Better' Spears' female take on Dj Snake and Justin Bieber's 'Let Me Love You' from the same year.

Similar to 'Private Show' on its risky take for Britney's habitual works, 'What You Need' closes the album leaving a confusing aftertaste to 'Glory's experience because of tracks misplacement.

The more up-tempo tracks on 'Glory' feel thought around her 'Piece Of Me' show. 'Clumsy', the sixth track was added to the concert's setlist after the album's release. Its aggressive bass work on the instrumentals offered Britney the chance to add a new set of dance-breaks to her choreography game.

Other songs like 'Just Like Me' and 'Just Love Me' felt experimental in Britney's common productions but got along with 'Glory's confident and even a little cathartic lyrical content.

Britney's 'Glory' lacked a concrete concept adding a cohesiveness to the tracks on it and connecting on their production like works as 'Blackout', 'Circus', or 'In The Zone' did. The engineering on the other side brought a newer and more updated sound to Britney's catalog after her plain previous project 'Britney Jean'. 'Glory' may haven't revolutionized general pop culture's history but it did experiment on the most mature sound of Britney.
