UNRELIABLE NARRATORS; SIDE D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keyser Soze propaganda:
I'm gonna be real I have never seen the movie but I watched a TV show- Derry girls- in which a character was watching that movie and it fucks her up. So the guy is screwing up the narrative for pieces of media he's barely mentioned in. And I think that's iconic
Jane Propaganda:
Centering around a young wife whose husband prescribes her the “resting cure” for a nervous condition (actually postpartem depression), Jane begins seeing women in her room's wallpaper, which she initially found unsettling and later found great need for. Jane's progression in the story can be read as a total loss of all sanity as a result of extreme isolation or a freeing of herself by 'freeing' the woman in the paper (the woman is literally trapped in the wallpaper; Jane is figuratively trapped. All women are confined to a role society has dictated for them).

Daydream: I would love to see Peter Lorre play Roger "Verbal" Kint/Keyser Söze (unproven) in "The Usual Suspects."
He would have stolen the entire film a hundred times over. When you look at his Colonel Gimpy / Baron in Crack-Up, his multilayered Mr. Moto, and think of all the times he's been referred to as "just a little guy" or said it of himself - imagine that compounded into this seemingly pathetic, amazingly diabolical character!

— MICRO SIDEWALK IN GOTHAM CITY
Some reporter : Do you actually believe that the Batman exist ?
Some guy : I mean I don’t know, people believed that Batman was something made up by the Gotham police to scare criminals...I mean why else would they put the bat-signal on their roof.
His friend : I heard he's a black-ops unit of the GCPD SWAT that operates as a pro-active offence unit rather than reactive like regular SWAT units.
A woman waiting for her bus : I hear he's secretly some millionaire playboy with issues. You know the one, his parents died when he was young. Not long later he disappeared for years and returned acting like the same careless ponce... I'm of course speaking about Oliver Queen, head of Queen Industry.
A teenager with his skateboard and croaked glasses that keeps sliding on his nose : I've heard he's immortal. There are all kinds of accounts all throughout history of a "Batman." They've found several cave paintings depicting a man/bat like humanoid. I've heard theories that he was active during the Inquisition and hunted witches. I've also heard that Blackbeard (you know, the pirate) had run ins with a man known simply as "The Black Pirate," whose description has several similarities to The Batman we know of in our time.
Gary, the guardian of apartment C : I heard he runs an orphanage and trains the children to be crime fighters. There are several bat people running around now. How else could he be all over the city?
Miranda, the woman always sitting in front of apartment C and smokes 2 packs of cigarettes everyday : Or a cult of undercity homeless people.
Freddie, in Central Park : There's definitely more than one Batman and they're all trained by a Government Agency. It's just a way for the Government to operate outside of the Law. Maybe the Batman/Batmen is/are independent, but there's no way he isn't working for the government.
Mia, 14 years old : Batman is clearly a vampire or some sort of demon.
Ali, sitting on a bench, taking a secret break from his job at Gotham Gazette : He's obviously some sort of robot, guys. No human being can do those jumps and give that much of a fight for so long barely scratched. I mean, why does hw only works at night? So nobody can have a good look at him.
Ginny, on his left, drinking her coffee : I think he is some sort of meta human I mean how else could he consistently do those things?
Their boss, Robert, behind them, shaking his head : you punks are all wrong, criminals everywhere have always had their own little boogie men. Keyser soze, Ra's al Ghul, The Batman. None of them are anywhere near as real as Mr. Fisk is going to be if you don't quit gossiping like a bunch of school girls and get back to work.
Adam, strolling with his wife Lorelei : Yeah and I really think he’s a woman. My buddy got mugged and a girl in a bat costume beat up the mugger.
Lorelei : Even weirder than that, I heard that the kid with the yellow cape is really a teenage girl.

ok major spoilers for the usual suspects under the cut don't read if you haven't seen the movie 'cause this is one you absolutely want to go in blind for
so dean keaton and verbal kint drive me fucking wild, okay? because their relationship is so layered. because everybody, everybody thinks keaton is the most dangerous guy in the room. kujan's obsessed with him. he's older, he's been doing this for longer, he's smarter than the rest of these trigger-happy maniacs, and he's charming and good-looking so of course the audience is going to look up to him-- the way verbal kint looked up to him, little verbal kint with his nonstop mouth and his big dark eyes and his bad left leg. why the hell is he even here, man? he's not a robber, not a heist man. he's a con artist, clearly the weakest link in the room. so of course he looks up to keaton. of course keaton takes him under his wing, sort of, tries to protect him during the last job, the one that blows up in their faces. tale as old as time, right?
but here's the kicker: verbal kint does not exist, and keyser soze is the most dangerous man in every room he walks into. so it's this flip of the power dynamics, right, and I think there's a lot of room to explore how fucking weird that would be for everyone involved had keaton lived long enough to talk about it. because every time he looks at this guy he's seeing double: kint and soze layered over each other. that's verbal's shy smile but the fierce cut-glass hardness in his eyes is something keaton's never seen before. he keeps verbal's limp, out of habit, maybe, but when he shoots he holds the gun with his left hand and his aim is steady. and keaton just doesn't know what to make of him but he's still fucking mesmerized and in too deep to walk away.
it's got shades of mr. white and mr. orange, actually, now that I think about it, if mr. orange had turned out to be the shark to joe cabot's big fish.
