My favourite thing about fics where the Champions survive/get resurrected is that I don’t think I’ve seen a single one that also revives King Rhoam.

Logically, if the Champions are resurrected then King Rhoam should be as well, but every single fic I’ve read seems to go “nah fuck that guy” and I’m here for it.

I'm not thinking about how Zelda introduces herself in that first memory. I'm not thinking about how she calls herself "Zelda, the daughter of King Rhoam of Hyrule".

It's been 100 years since Rhoam died, and hyrule has had no royalty in that time. Zelda is the only royalty they know or care about. She is Princess Zelda of Hyrule, not the daughter of a long dead king. But that's still how she introduces herself.

This introduction doesn't make sense in her Hyrule, it makes even less sense in a place that is obviously not the Hyrule she knows. People are far more likely to have heard of her than her father.

If I was the speculating type I'd say that she is still trying to live in the shadow of her father, live up to his expectations of who she should be, and how she should go about being a ruler. I'd say she still defines herself as his daughter, above who she herself is. And thinks of him as the king, despite the fact that by all rights she is queen of hyrule, being the only surviving royal.

I'd also say that the writers put that line in so Rauru could conveniently say that he was the king of Hyrule, but I still think there's more to it than that.
