KinnPorsche two year anniversary prompt 3: Favourite Episode
Also I guess prompt 4 which is actually today: Favourite location/set
Ughhgg I love episode 6. It's so contrasting to the show and it fits so well right in the middle as a break and a turning point. It is the sole reason I like kinnporsche as a ship, just the way that it's the only time kinn felt fully at peace and like he could be himself!!??? The way that he kept Porsche in this situation not telling him a way out but when it was the end he gave Porsche an out of the mafia because Kinn thinks living in the woods is better and safer than his life in the mafia!!!???! The way that Porsche saw sides of Kinn here that he only saw here which lead to him understanding and loving Kinn the way that he does??!!?? The way they are so cute?!?? The gorgeousness of everything?!?? The parallels of Porsche withholding information from kinn to Kinn revealing he was withholding information from Porsche the entire time. (Huh is that where their continuous trust issues started?) The way that this was Porsches last chance to leave, his last moment away from the mafia, his last hope whether he knew it or not; and he almost took it, he was so so close! but ultimately he chose Kinn's life over everything. He chose Kinn's life over his safety, his brother, his freedom.
When I first watched this episode I was like okay cool but did that need to be a whole episode, but when I finished it and saw Porsche as the minor family head all I could think about was this episode.

When you think about it, the most incredible thing about this episode is Kinn’s progression from mafia boss back to himself. I could talk about this forever, but what makes my heart really squeal is the fact that Kinn set out to bring Porsche back to him only to immediately push him away again...but not for the same reasons as before.
What’s funny is, both times Kinn has pushed Porsche away have been because of his own feelings: before, pushing Porsche away was a rejection of his feelings. Now, pushing Porsche away is a way of acting on them. And it’s something they both recognize this time, not just Kinn.

It’s so refreshing for Porsche to finally understand Kinn’s feelings for him (not to mention his own feelings too). His expression before running back to Kinn says everything. This is the cathartic moment we all needed.

Kinnporsche Exceeding Expectations
In a show that easily could’ve swept the dubious morality of Kinn’s actions under the rug and marched on, KinnPorsche hits pause and let’s the characters and the audience stew in the fallout of Kinn’s actions.
It would’ve been so easy to have Kinn and Porsche fall into a physical relationship after the events of episode 4. We’ve seen it before and w/dramas that have gone on to be insanely popular. Instead, the writers allow Kinn and Porsche space and time to process Kinn’s actions and figure out what it means for their dynamic moving forward.
We see Kinn struggling with guilt and wanting to make amends in a situation that forces him to make an example of Porsche instead. We also see Kinn desperately trying to contain his growing feelings for Porsche due to his aforementioned guilt and to protect Porsche from being singled out by those around him as well.
Meanwhile, we see Porsche dealing with the reality of being violated by someone in a direct position of power over him while also coming to terms with the uncomfortable truth that he’s attracted to that person despite their actions. Most importantly, Porsche’s feelings are never invalidated by the writing. These conflicting emotions of hurt and budding attraction are allowed to exist simultaneously without one diminishing the other.
Our main couple falls further apart before they fall back together. While the physical chemistry and attraction is apparent even after Kinn’s transgressions, it’s only once they’re given time to connect emotionally and heal that any physical boundaries are crossed again.
As the media often has a black and white relationship with morality, it’s quite unique that Kinn is allowed to acknowledge the wrongness of his behavior and apologize to Porsche while remaining the love interest. It’s all too common that the toxic actions of a love interest are never confronted, as acknowledging the wrongness of their behavior would immediately disqualify that character from their designated role as love interest within the narrative’s morality. As a result, abuse is often downplayed at best or romanticized at worse. On the other hand, when a love interest’s toxic behavior is acknowledged, it’s often with the express purpose of ushering said character out the role to make way for the “real” love interest. In this way, media has habit of holding characters accountable only when it suits their story. This is why it’s notable that KinnPorsche decides to have it both ways by holding Kinn accountable and condemning his behavior but not Kinn, himself, as a person. It’s also important to note that Porsche is allowed to acknowledge Kinn’s actions and forgive him without excusing those actions. The writers are not saying that Kinn’s behavior in episode 4 is okay, but they are allowing both Porsche and Kinn to be complex characters who exist in a complicated world which is honestly more than I ever expected from this show.

So Kinn, this hardened mafia heir (who is openly gay in a world so removed from kindness) has a self imposed rule of never kissing someone, yet he gives his kisses to Porsche willingly, freely.
Kinn, who presents his toughest exterior to the outside world, still fidgets and wrings his hands and stammers over his words in front of his father, someone he's probably scared of deep inside him (and someone who knows exactly what to say, to hit where it hurts the most), because somewhere deep down, he's still a young boy with a caring heart, thrust into this world of bloodshed and distrust against his will.
His father, who points out that Porsche is probably becoming a weakness, and Kinn, warring with his conscience, believes him anyway, because in their world, weakness is preyed upon and that price is paid with life. (And even if he didn't consciously realise it then, Porsche's life is not something he's willing to exchange, for anything in this world.)
Kinn, who says that all of his people are equal in his eyes, almost loses his mind with worry when Porsche goes missing, so much so that he doesn't even trust his best bodyguards to look after an unconscious Porsche when he's finally found.
Kinn, who never got to be a child (because really, his childhood was probably snatched away the day Tankhun got kidnapped) gets two whole days of freedom, and lets Porsche see him. His inner child.
For the first time, he doesn't have to suppress his laughs, doesn't have to watch his back for the next bullet, doesn't have to weave webs of complex words, doesn't have to flail open debtors. He gets to be excited about fishing, gets to marvel at a sunset sitting on top of a rundown truck, gets to share his dreams next to a campfire, gets to wake up slowly and peacefully, gets to breathe.
Kinn, who probably never sang after that one competition in his childhood (how could he, when his father bought the first spot with money) sings awfully just to please Porsche, because he's become just that comfortable with him. Become just that okay with Porsche's gentle teasing and goading, even wants it, just to see Porsche laugh at his expense.
Kinn, who trusts nobody, not even his closest and best bodyguards or his handful of friends and even keeps a distance from his overbearing father, is helpless in the face of Porsche's unbridled openness, his carefree smiles and his unwavering loyalty, and grows to trust him, almost against his will.
Kinn, who tastes his freedom in Porsche in those two days they are handcuffed together, but makes up his mind to let him go, just so Porsche could live his dream when he himself couldn't.
Because Kinn, who had had his heart broken before, chooses to fall in love again anyway.

when porsche fails to climb out of the hole, he frustratedly says “damn it! why do I have to be chained to you?” as he pulls against the handcuffs. in this moment, kinn looks at him devastatingly. he then says “but this way we get to know each other more.” but there is such resigned sadness in his eyes. this is the moment kinn makes the decision to let porsche go. seeing porsche’s frustrated hopelessness to be chained to him forever - knowing that it is a prison for porsche. when porsche says “why do I have to be chained to you!” - kinn sees it not just literally, but figuratively. as long as porsche works for kinn, he will be chained to him. his life is kinn’s. he will not be free to pursue his dreams and live with his brother, or open the bar on the beach. he cannot be truly happy as long as he is chained to kinn against his will. so kinn makes the decision to free him then. only, he doesn’t actually take off the cuffs until porsche has offered to cut off his hand. he is shocked when porsche offers himself. it further confirms his decision that porsche cannot be with him - bc he will always sacrifice himself for kinn. that is the nature of his job. and the nature of porsche’s heart. and kinn doesn’t want porsche to sacrifice anything else for him. he doesn’t want to take anything else away from porsche. he wants him, more than anything, to be happy.
and then when porsche is gone and kinn looks down at the handcuffs, he kicks them and cries out in agony. those blasted things - that gave him everything and cost him everything. he could never be happier than when he was chained to porsche. and he will forever be chained in his heart. but porsche was now free of him and that was what mattered.

The devastation of saving the one who could have been The one ...                               Part 1.
Tumblr media
Did you notice that Porsche had to push Kinn away to make them let go of each other ?
Did you hear Kinn let out this tiny sound of "Hngh" when he is pushed back...Like he's just been punched in the gut ,like he is trying to take a breath but there's something stuck in his lungs...
Tumblr media
Did you feel as bereft as Kinn did after Porsche walks back ....just standing there ...empty handed , Porsche's warmth slowly leaving his limbs... the hope of love disappearing like mist in midnight rain ...barely had a glimpse of heaven to fall back to hell
Tumblr media
Did the knowledge that Porsche can still walk away from him and sprint towards his freedom, whereas Kinn is now so far gone his only option is to be the one left behind .. Did that hurt more or less then the bullet that thore through his flesh....
Tumblr media
Did you feel the visceral, clawing regret set in after Porsche is gone ...Kinn just let go of his one ray of sunshine in a future of darkness ... He used all of his dwindling willpower to unclench his fist and let the firefly slip though his fingers ....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then the reminder that the only reason he even got this much light was becouse he captured a Phoenix , traped him, took advantage  .....wondering how much of it was given freely , if any ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then comes the rage ....born of the cold finality of your circumstances , the need to scream your helplessness in to the starless night until you throat is so raw you are coughing blood ...
Tumblr media
The devastation in the knowledge that you were forced - against your selfish desires - to save the one who could have loved you -body and soul - from yourself....A Pyrrhic victory against your own demons .......
Because you know there is only so many times  you can watch a caged phoenix rise from the ashes ,sickened by the knowledge that your love is the cage  ........and you are the one who keeps making him burn ......
part 2
