help!! i’m so sick rn and i can’t breathe any tips on how to unclog ur nose ???

Okay if you can, go to a pharmacy and get a sort of Neti-pot or saline irrigator kit, but if you use one of these (they are so satisfying and miraculous to clear you out!) PLEASE sanitise the solution before using it, by boiling it (and let it cool!).

If you can get to a pharmacy, I can recommend some nasal sprays which also work like magic, but those can be bad for you if you’re relying on them for long periods of time, so they can’t give much long-term relief.

If you can’t get those for any reason, boil water and put it in a large bowl, with a towel over your head and have tissues at the ready. Now, try to breathe the steam (careful not to burn your face or throat with it) by using the towel like a tent over your head and the bowl, and it should help clear the mucus out of your sinuses. If you have tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil, like two drops of that will make it even better but be careful not to add too much and also maybe cover your eyes bc that stuff is strong as fuck! These steam inhalations are great for clearing your nose even for just a few hours of relief.

You can also try using a gua sha stone or your hand to drain your sinuses, I can link a tiktok where a dermatologist demonstrates this bc it’s so satisfying to feel the fluid trapped in your head actually start to move out.

Also, keep up ibuprofen and paracetamol, interchanging the two every 4-6 hours to reduce inflammation or fever. Good luck baby! Let me know if any of this helps 🩵

another important time of year to know about that begins in june is hurricane season.

if you live in an at-risk area, make sure you have all the supplies you need. i live in miami, so you bet your ass we're getting all the batteries, non-perishables, emergency supplies, etc. that we need.

do not wait until a storm is approaching to prepare. panic may ensue after a storm is announced. items may become hard to find. get them now while there is not much going on.

here's a list of items to stock up on. ill also put it here bc if you dont read any of the links from this post i want to be sure you at least read this. this is (in no particular order) the list from Ready, the site NOAA has linked:

water. Ready recommends a gallon per person per day for several days; get what you can. be sure you also have water for pets if you have them.

food. have several days' worth of non-perishable food. again, be sure to get food for pets as well if needed. if the food is in cans, make sure you've got some way of opening them, i.e. manual can opener. dont rely on an electronic can opener. (optionally, extra plates, utensils, etc.)

radio, etc. ESPECIALLY if you're in a risk zone, your power can go out so fast. so can cell service, etc. know which devices work without power, which require a charger, and which can work without internet.

flashlight. generally a good thing to have anyway. harbor freight has rly bright ones for cheap, theyre by the front counter

first aid kit. again, generally a good thing to have in or out of hurricane season.

covid preventative measures. especially if you're living with other people — you may end up in close quarters for days at a time or longer, and that's gonna get really bad really fast if you don't have some way to ward off the virus

MEDICATIONS!!!! i can say from experience that hurricanes and even just storm surges have a very real chance of messing up your ability to get your prescription. all it takes is a power outage and the pharmacy to be like oh :( sorry cant give u ur meds now :( computer isnt working :( and you can get screwed so easily. also, check up on your supplies of any over-the-counter stuff you may need to use, especially if regularly (for example, ibuprofen and similar that might be needed for menstrual cramps)

menstrual products (pads, tampons, etc.). you will want to have enough of these for a while. make sure to account for anyone else you're living with who needs them too.

baby care products. Ready specifically lists formula, bottles, diapers, wipes, and diaper rash cream.

diversions for kids. Ready lists this too, and i can say from experience — being trapped inside without power during a hurricane as a kid is not only terrifying, but also boring as all hell. you don't really understand what the adults are talking about, you just know that you're possibly in danger and that your games arent working because of it, and it sucks. i highly recommend legos, but even a silly board game can be enough for a couple hours.

batteries. yes okay sure maybe you have batteries. but please double-check — are they the right kind? do you have enough for the things you may need to use them for? also keep track of batteries for devices such as hearing aids, which you are less likely to be able to find batteries for from a neighbor

whistle to signal for help. you can get em for like 3-4 bucks

dust mask for contaminated air. i tried to find whether this can be a covid mask, but no dice. lmk if you know! in the absence of any evidence that the two are completely interchangeable, i would recommend to get a separate dust mask just in case. harbor freight sells em in packs of 10 for 3-4 bucks. also keep in mind that not all dust masks are designed for use against covid

plastic sheeting and duct tape. this one is to seal up the walls in case of danger outside — here's how to do it. (Look at the section titled "Sheltering in place".)

wet wipes, garbage bags, plastic ties

wrench or pliers to turn off utilities. here's how to do it. be sure you know which tools can be used for what BEFORE you have to go do it yourself. while you're at it, check if you've got any tools you need to repair damage to mobility aids, etc.

maps of the area. if you dont know your area, if you're dorming or rooming and don't know what's around, whatever your situation — trust me, you do not want to have to rely on an electronic device to get to where you need to be. know what you're looking for in advance if possible.

phone, charger, etc.

other important supplies based on what you might need:

glasses + lens solution. once again, this is pretty much just a thing that's generally good to have. but also remember that a lens wipe can only do so much if your glasses are covered in large particles or particles in a large amount

cash, important documents, etc. preferably in a waterproof container. Ready specifically lists insurance policies, identification and bank account records.

blanket or sleeping bag for each person. yet another instance of something that is generally good to have.

full change of clothing + shoes. if you can get good, sturdy shoes — great. but if you have a pair of extra shoes, that's fine too.

fire extinguisher. i'll be honest — i've never included this in the kit, and i don't have one, but Ready lists it as an item some people might need. idk. if you feel like you might need one, you can look into it — they do seem to be among the pricier items on the list, though.

Warriors Ship Hypokits- Nonbinary!HollyxIce Edition

Tw for slight mention of gender dysphoria and Hollyleaf is referred to as female for one line at the beginning. The story ends happily and the misgendering is due to Holly not knowing that they are trans at the time, but I'm placing this warning here just in case

In this AU, Hollyleaf grows up feeling as if something is fundamentally wrong with them. They don't fit in with the other mollies in the Clan, but mistake this for just being an outsider, suspecting their mother Squirrelflight had them and their brothers with a cat from another Clan. They and Icepaw have a mutual crush on each other, but Holly is too focused on trying to figure out why they feel so uncomfortable (and thinks it’s because they are not entirely ThunderClan) so they put it on hold and remain friends. It's later revealed via the fire scene and a vengeful Ashfur that the three are half-clan and Leafpool's kits and Hollyleaf ends up fleeing into the tunnels. When Hollyleaf meets Fallen Leaves in the tunnels, he helps them realize that they are nonbinary and the two bond over it (FL is also trans). They encounter the abandoned fox-kit but the kit's mother never returns and Hollyleaf becomes a parent. When Hollyleaf returns to the Clans to kick Sol into oblivion, they do it alongside Tunnelkit (who is now pretty big and intimidating). They come out to their supportive community and finally confess to Icecloud they like her, with her happily reciprocating. Icecloud becomes Tunnelkit's (now Tunnelpaw) other parent, and she and Hollyleaf have three kits together with Lionblaze's assistance (four counting Tunnel), with Icecloud carrying:

Tunnelbite- large gray fox with brown eyes. Doesn't really care about gender, toric (nblm). They use he/she/they pronouns interchangeably. Named for the tunnels he was found in as a baby. ThunderClan was always pretty accepting to Tunnelbite as Hollyleaf's child (after a brief moment of terror because giant scary fox). She has a good grasp of cat speech due to being raised by them. He is very thoughtful and enjoys hunting with his family. Tunnelbite doesn't stay with ThunderClan for long after they grow up, deciding to seek out other foxes. They visit their parents and siblings from time to time, and eventually bring their own kits and their mate to meet their cat family. He helps the cats communicate with the foxes and come to a peace agreement to stop problems between them. She doesn't have a Clan Rank.

Fallenrain- dark-gray-and-white tom with green eyes. Cis tom, gay. Named for his loving ghost uncle Fallen Leaves. Fallenrain is a bit of a nervous wreck and has issues with interacting with other cats properly. He tries his best, but gets too wrapped up in his own thoughts. His only real friends are the spirits that he is able to see that no one else can. He struggles a lot in Clan life, ultimately deciding to become a kittypet and is renamed Henry by his Twolegs. He enjoys being a kittypet much more than Clan life but does miss and worry about his family. Luckily, Henry is allowed to come visit them occasionally and enjoys catching up on the latest Clan gossip when he does. When he was a Warrior, he was a Scout.

Chervilthroat- very pale cream-and-gray tom with yellow eyes. Trans tom, omnisexual. Chervilthroat is a calm and gentle cat with a knack for making compromises and brokering peace. While he is actually an incredibly good fighter he prefers it only as a last resort. He tried to be a Medicine Cat for a while, but found that it just wasn't for him. His handsome appearance and kindly demeanor results in him being the object of affection for many cats in ThunderClan and outside of it, but he himself is only interested in one cat, that being Ambermoon. When the two finally smooch there is equal amounts of rejoicing and jealousy. He is a Mediator.

Mistletoeheart- spiky-furred golden molly with green eyes. Trans molly, polyamorous lesbian. Mistletoeheart is a bouncy and energetic cat whose personality is as bright and eye-catching as her fur. She is a deeply loving cat who is a hopeless romantic. However it would seem that she looks for love in all the wrong places and falls way too fast for a healthy relationship. It takes a lot of failed relationships for her to learn, but once she does realize the issues in her approach she seeks to correct them. Once she does, she becomes a much better partner in the future. Despite her loving nature, she finds battles thrilling and fun and revels in them. She is a Brute.

Summary: Wu Xie was young and too proud to ask his uncles to get him out of the massive fucking trouble he’d got himself into. Which was how he ended up forced to go to a Wang Zanghai tomb and stumbled onto a mystery that should never have existed in the first place.

In some of the wallets he found pictures. Of men, women, children - clearly family or lovers, people important to the deceased, and it hit him then that they were people, not just interchangeable, cardboard cutout mercenaries. They’d done this job for the money, but each of them had had their own situation and circumstances. He had to stop cataloging for a while then, dropping the pen to the floor and crying like a child, pressing the heels of his hands to his eyes and sobbing as the memories of the slaughter came back - visceral and so powerful that he felt like was going to retch any moment.

He had no idea how long he cried, tears and snot covering his face, but when it ended he felt sick and numb, so exhausted that he could barely move. He crawled to the turned down lamp. He wanted to turn it off, to save the power, but couldn’t make himself do that. He just sat there on the floor and pulled the lamp into his lap, hugging it like a baby.

He had no idea how long he sat there, numb and shivering, getting colder, so cold that his joints creaked and hurt. Eventually, he crawled towards the pile of bedding and collapsed onto it, the lamp still held close. He clumsily pulled the blankets over his shoulders, too exhausted to do anything more. His eyes were dry, but burning, and he was so scared, so exhausted. He just wanted his mom, wanted her exasperated but fond laugh, her hands smelling of perfumed soaps soothing him to sleep, wanted his childhood bed and the faint noises of his parents staying up late while he fell asleep.

He woke up, jerking awake in surprise, again shocked to even be alive enough to wake up. His head hurt, a bounding beat that made it hard to move, and his throat was so dry that it hurt, his lips sticking together. His bladder was also full, and his stomach was cramping in that nauseous way that meant he had long passed merely being hungry. He crawled out of the pile of blankets to the camp toilets to relieve himself, cleaning his hands on the wet wipes he’d left there before dizzily making his way to the piles of supplies, gulping down half a bottle of water before digging through the first aid kits for some aspirin or something. He ripped open a food bar, mechanically chewed it, then crawled back into his nest of blankets, too heartsick and exhausted to think of anything more than sleep. Or, if not sleep, then just laying there, cocooned in blankets, and trying to pretend that all of this was just a bad dream.

He fell asleep quickly, exhausted and in pain, and this time he did manage to turn off the lamp first, even if his hands shook when he did it. He dragged a flashlight into the bedding with himself, desperately afraid of being left in the darkness. He expected to spend hours shivering in fear, but his body just wasn’t capable of sustaining that level of awareness and he dropped off quickly.

He lost track of time. Everything became just this one long fuzzy stretch of time where he slept until he was physically sick of it, then woke up just long enough to eat something. He didn’t even bother to cook, just chewed on the protein bars - not even managing a whole one most times, since his appetite was completely gone. He did remember to drink water whenever he woke up, but he didn’t even check his watch. It was just this constant progression of sleep, wake up long enough to relieve himself and eat a few bites, and sleep more. He did nothing else, sometimes he woke up and just lay there in his bedding, not moving, just staring at the low burning lamp until his eyes watered and he tried to will himself back to sleep, convinced that it was all a bad dream, that all he needed was to wake up and it would be gone. He would be back in Wushanju, maybe sleeping somewhere on his desk, his back steadily cramping from the position.

Thoughts on Shadow and Bone

obviously, spoilers, ALL THE SPOILERS BELOW....

What they nailed:

Alina Starkov. I really loved Jessie Mei Li as Alina. She’s fresh, genuine, and she has the cutest smile ever. I’m usually not a fan of adding elements that aren’t in the original material, but I loved how they incorporated Jessie’s ancestry into the story and made Alina half Shu-Han. Not only does it make 100% sense, with Alina being from an area with a lot of Ravkan/Shu-Han interchange, but it also respects both the actress and the story rather than saying “Oh yes, Alina’s looks slightly asian now”. I loved how she was portrayed, I felt like she was a blank canvas that slowly filled with color as her story progressed, and Jessie really brought her to life.

The Darkling. First things first. I love the Darkling, in case that wasn’t already obvious. And I love Ben Barnes, in case that wasn’t obvious either. For some reason, it seemed like the show creators really wanted to rub the “he’s the BAD GUY” powder in my face, but joke’s on them, because Ben Barnes portrayal really added to the tragedy of his character, to everything that he’s been through and to the corruption of his ideals. How he went from an outcast wanting to stand up for himself and his people, to a tyrant fueled mainly by vengeance (if they wanted to make him less sympathetic so badly, why on earth would they include that flashback scene? How lonely he was, how manipulating, how driven. Also, how plainly hot he is.

Darklina. On the same note, the chemistry between Jessie Mei Li and Ben Barnes is insane. There were only a couple of Darklina scenes, but they were so powerful, that I find it hard to believe even non darklina shippers didn’t feel it. To be fair, I’m a Darklina fan (I’m actually a Nikolina fan, but Darklina is my second favorite), so I guess there might be a slight bias on the subject. Just as they were trying too hard to state the Darkling was evil, they tried too hard to make Darklina less appealing (like, they took away the whole Darkling’s real name element, what was that about?). But the actors had such good chemistry that despite whatever attempt the creators might have had to make it clear Darklina is “wrong”, it flopped. They had the best romantic chemistry. Even when they were fighting. Shivers.

The Crows. Flawless. Perfection. Chef kisses. Every single one of my traumatized teenager found family members was perfectly introduces, portrayed and everything was perfectly set up for Six of Crows storyline. Kaz Brekker? Flawless. Freddy Carted had all the aesthetic. Maybe they could have shown more signals of his phobia to being touched, but I guess we’ll see more of that next season. The scene of Kaz vs. Darkling? Didn’t even know I needed it. Of course the one person that could have outsmarted the Darkling would be the Bastard of the Barrel. Kick his shadow summoner ass, baby. Inej? An absolute queen. Her devotion, her faith, her skill. She was simply perfect. Amita Suman is gorgeous and she’s exactly how I pictured Inej to be. Kit Young? He brought the personification of chaotic energy that is Jesper and elevated it to a new plane of existence. Jesper was perfect. His loyalty, his cockiness, his skill, but also his weaknesses, his addiction, his playful side. God, he was amazing. 

Nina and Mathias? Nothing to say other than I love them your honor. I loved that they stuck to Nina’s body type and casted a curvier actress. And Mathias? All tall and blonde and stubborn? My sweet, dumb himbo. Their chemistry was amazing too. The scene in the whaler’s cabin? Even better than I imagined it in the books.

The visuals. The Fold. Ketterdam. The keftas, Os Alta, Tsybeya. It was all so beautiful. Ketterdam was almost just as i imagined it. The fold was even better. I think the one mark they missed was the Little Palace (where’s the golden dome?) and Bahgra’s hut (which wasn’t a hut, it was a cave). The Grisha power. The shadows controlled by the Darkling, the light controlled by Alina, Genya’s tailoring, the Summoners in general. It all looked so cool

Special shoutout to Milo the goat. You brought all the cuteness to the Crows.

What they missed:

Mal. Yes, yes, I know a lot of people are very defensive of Mal because he’s the “good guy”. But my thoughts regarding the character and how lowkey toxic he is belong to another post, because this isn’t about Mal in general, but about Show Mal. I think Archie Renaux did great with what was handed to him, but he was handed a pretty dull deck. I had the feeling I was going to like show!Mal much more than Book!Mal. In fact, I didn’t even think it was possible for it to be differently, but it was. I was rolling my eyes at Mal more times in one season of the show than I did in all three books. I saw none of his charming scenes, his womanizer moments, his sarcastic comments that landed so well with the situation. Mal’s sense of humor was one of the key factors that make me like the character to some extent in the books, and I felt none of that in the show. They wanted so badly to show him as this Mr. Right Person for Alina, that it was like that was his only personality trait. They really did Archie Renaux dirty because I’m sure he could have done wonders if the writers had included just a little more of Mal’s humorous side.

Malina. Kind of goes hand in hand. Just like with Mal, I won’t go into why I dislike the ship as a whole, but why I felt like the show missed the mark on it. It felt so incredibly forced, like they were trying to shove it down the audience’s throat. The actors had great chemistry portraying best friends, but I felt 0 romantic chemistry. Look at Kaz and Inej, they never once adressed their relationship directly, and yet the chemistry was still there. So then it seemed like they tried to compensate that by throwing in all those flashback scenes, but you can’t construct a ship solely on that, because we are not following that story, we’re following the present story. The thing about Malina in the books, is that the readers could actually decide for themselves whether they liked it or not, while in the show they were pretty much forcing you to. Also, I felt like they missed Alina’s initial crush on Mal while he didn’t really see her that way at first. If they had included that, maybe it would have seemed a little bit less forced rather than having Mal make heart eyes at her from the first moment.

Zoya. I was low-key disappointed of her because I missed a lot of ehr coldness, her superiority and her elegance. Zoya was this powerful, ambitious grisha, proud, cold, charming, sassy. While they gave her most of her lines from the book, I felt like the show reduced her to simply a local mean girl pinning for the Darkling, with little self control over her emotions, when we know in truth no one had a better control over her emotions than Zoya, and that it takes a lot more than two punches to trigger her. I wanted to see more of the #Queen and less of the #Meangirl

That was pretty much all. The rest of the secondary characters were all good, I just didn’t mention them because I focused on what really popped out to me. I’m excited for season 2, especially to see the Ice Court Heist, and, of course, to see the arrival of our lord and savior Nikolai Lantsov (all though I am terrified of his casting because he’s just one of those character you NEED to be perfect).
