When I decided to KT Tape both my knees because I have a concert tonight... but then I somehow managed to tape my left knee way better than my right knee and my right knee is the worst knee. Kill meeeeee. Plus each knee takes 4 strips of tape so it would be expensive to retry, rippppp.

If you haven’t heard of kinesiology tape yet, listen up! I first used kinesiology tape (or k-tape) in PT for my knee issues about 10 years ago. I swear by it, and it definitely helps soft tissue / muscle / tendon pain. Watch some YouTube videos on how to apply, get yourself some. 💙🥄 You’ll thank me!

The difference between looking at the kt tape tag on here and TikTok is hilarious. On TikTok, it’s all mouthtaping and wrinkle reduction. On here, it’s all trans people talking about using it as trans tape and disabled people talking about using it to reduce pain.
Yet again reminding me why this app is 100% my favorite form of social media. Every time I think it’s bad here I go scroll on tiktok for 5 seconds and I remember.

🏳️‍⚧️[ Below is a vent about being trans, and how an expensive product doesn't work for me. This post is not in the orange color i love so it's easier to read if you do decideto read it.]🏳️‍⚧️
I am a FTM(female to male) trans person living in Germany.
I bind with KT tape and trans tape cause i cannot breathe in binders, and i know i will pass out if i do attempt to wear them. Also, money is tight, and i therefore cannot afford binders and the shipping of them.
My local KT tape works fine! Just blisters my sides. It stays on my body for quite a bit, and sometimes i forget it's even there!
(Having your tape blister you is NOT GOOD BTW. Its just the best i can do. If you have tips on having your KT tape not blister you i would greatly appreciate it cause that would ease my stress a TON)
But the trans tape my boyfriend had gotten me lasts maybe a day? Maybe two or three? It doesn't blister me though, which is definitely good.
But a product which is much more expensive than the kt tape performing much much worse than it duration wise? it makes me feel so powerless. Like all the control i had over my dysphoria just slips away like sand! I cannot leave my home when my chest isn't bound. My dysphoria feels like a disability- like a constant choking feeling. And i fucking hate it. I am trying my best to get my transition going with a luckily supportive family that has already switched to my chosen name- but i need help with the medical things from my therapist who i don't see as often as i want to- she had trans patients before and knows how to do the papers and my anxiety prevents me from doing it alone.
I am trying my best but my best doesn't feel good enough and me writing this post feels like im just complaining, considering others have it far worse than me but these are just feelings im feeling- feelings i want people to know about n have them reach people who feel similar to me and reach people who have advice cause i really really need it.

Thanks to my recent diagnosis of Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder, horrible floppy dislocation and subluxation pain, physical therapy to try to mitigate all of that...I am more tape than person. My shoulder is a webwork of tape, each of my arms, my neck, and my fingers are covered in tape.
Also I probably need a new desk and have to redo my art area to be more ergonomic and I really can't afford it with all the recent medical expenses and I'm not thrilled.
But, at least that diagnosis of fibromyalgia that never sat right with me was in fact, something else entirely.

Met with a friend I haven't seen in months and apparently she has HSD and uses KT tape and let me borrow some and taped my knee for me and OMG. My knee feels so much better. I ACTUALLY RAN TODAY. (Literally for 1 minute in a parking lot but still) and my knee feels stable??? like not completely but it's def better.
If I place my palm over my knee and extend it I can literally FEEL things crunching and shifting around. But with the tape I just feel a mostly smooth transition. It's amazing honestly.
It doesn't completely reduce the pain by any means but it's an improvement. My new solution is going to be holding my joints together with tape lmfaooooo.

listen I know there's not much evidence that KT tape does anything but make you more aware of a body parts movement and add a bit of resistance to a joint BUT this morning I was having a day where I'd usually treat my wrist like a sprain (tension bandage, ice, limit usage, etc) instead, I stuck KT tape on there and holy shit the pain is like gone. I washed dishes and I made cookies on The Same Day! Insane! Impossible. Who is he?
Idc if it's a placebo I'm riding this discovery as far as it'll get me

Anyone know if KT tape can help with hypermobile joints even if they don't dislocate or whatnot? Just the feeling of uncomfortableness.

Trans Tape/KT Tape
I personally hate this form of binding.
If you are going to bind this way, round the corners of both pieces with some scissors to reduce pulling during wear. The positive thing about this type of binding is you can wear it for a few days even in water.
Put gauze, fabric scraps, or some sort of cover over your nipple to protect the thinner skin that's there.
It should start peeling/falling off on its own, soak the area in coconut oil or something like that. Pull up slowly on the peeling corners, and if you can, use your other hand or someone else's hand to press your skin down. One hand is pulling the tape away from you, and the other is pulling your skin away from the tape. Don't just rip it off like a bandaid.
Because it's made to stay on you for so long, it can really fuckin hurt ur skin.
I personally think it's too much of a hassle for something that doesn't bind very well. You're not supposed to stretch it *too* much or it'll hurt your skin, I have a very small chest and I don't find that this method adequately binds for me.
Many people do like this form of binding the best since it's longer lasting, and wearing it in the shower reduces shower dysphoria.
Always take some sort of break when binding, taking a break from the tape will let ur skin breathe, get properly cleaned, and heal if needed.

my new nightly routine:
procrastinate going to sleep
finally talk myself into going to sleep
going to finish getting ready and being literally in awe about how much kt tape is helping my pain management
like literally I didn't even realize how much pain I was in every night until it's been gone
in conclusion, if you have joint pain, try kt tape (I'm currently using knockoff kt tape from target and it seems to work slightly less well (and it doesn't stick quite as well) but it's a fourth of the price and makes it so much more accessible for me)
