depending on how long your fingerloop braids are you could braid them together into thicker lanyards, but it occurs to me that since they’re made of embroidery floss, you could probably do some cool couching work with them

Yes! I had considered using them as like, an edge-trimming on the hems of garments! That was the most coherent idea I’d had.

The other similar method of cord production I’ve done a bit of is lucet weaving, which produces something similar to the beginner’s six-loop square braid that @tora42 had in the thing I reblogged (they reblogged with a more elaborate lanyard in the time between I started responding to the post and when I posted it, LOL)-- but I can’t find my dang lucet. (Of course I own two. They’re probably together, somewhere.) Lucet is best done with, like, silk yarn, and I’d used that stuff for bodice lacing and such. (With thread eyelets-- metal eyelets would shred the cord.)

Semi-unrelatedly to all of this, I got a spinning wheel over the summer and am attempting to learn to spin, and so far I’ve only spun some indifferent wool yarn but I’m hoping to get more skilled and branch out. (I happen to have acquired an antique flax wheel that balks and sulks if I spin anything but fine thread on it, which like, is challenging ok, and I’ve had a lot going on, and anyway I’m daydreaming of spinning pretty things but I don’t knit or crochet so I’ve been researching things I can make with my handspun that isn’t sweaters or granny squares because I don’t need yet more fibercrafting tools in my house and also I can’t spin thick enough yarn for them anyway.)

It’s really a shame I don’t do any SCA stuff anymore. It’s not like I can’t couch my painstakingly hand-braided-from-homespun-fibers braids down as trims on modern garments but it’s not going to get appreciated the same way. 😅

Anyway this was why I was pondering offering fiber-art-based art treats for F&S because I don’t know what other audience there is for them in my life at the moment, LOL.

I don’t have much by way of coherent ideas but I’ve been doing a lot of applique-and-embroidery pieces (... a lot. Two! I’ve done two, and haven’t figurd out the finishing part. I guess they’ll wind up... like... tiny quilts? I’ll quilt-sandwich them over batting with a backing and bind the edges? IDK)-- anyway some lengths of fingerloop braid would probably go a ways toward giving that some dimensional appeal too. What a good idea that is, I’m answering this publicly solely so I don’t convince myself I came up with it on my own later, LOL.

years ago @un-buttoned wanted a new ao3 username and i helped her look through rare words dictionaries and found the word kerasine which means horny as in horn-shaped and i thought it was funny and sounded nice. and i really wanted a non-fandom url so i wouldn’t have to keep changing it every year lol

i have a whole bunch, but the only one that’s really active atm is @witcherrarepair which i’m DETERMINED to keep running even though i’m kind of already like two hyperfixations removed

nah i veeery rarely use a queue anymore. my followers know i might just suddenly spam them with 200 sauron thirst posts or whatever weird random thing i happen to get into on any given day

my first blog? i was looking for the rdj sherlock holmes movie online, found bbc sherlock instead, googled when the next season airs, found a tumblr blog and fell into tumblr fandom headfirst

this blog? about a year later, i watched spn and got into wincest, and figured i should maybe make a new secret blog for that and don’t tell my friends and family the url this time

wanted a non-fandom icon and looked through my aesthetic folder that i keep for moodboards

probably a few arguments back in the day? i mostly can’t be bothered anymore, and for some reason people leave me alone despite my many controversial opinions and problematic ships lmao

annoying for the most part. real talk, a lot of people use tumblr as a space to get away from the seriousness of real life for a while, especially if they’re involved in activism irl, or experience oppression themselves, or, you know, read the news and talk about it outside of social media, like most adults do!

i love them!!! even though i’m really bad at doing them!!! if you ever tagged me in something it brought a smile to my face and i love you and pls keep doing it even though i’m terrible and end up forgetting it half the time!!!

5. A Standing Agreement - The one that started it all. Last Winter Break, I did nothing but replay The Witcher 3 and by the end of the gaming binge, I had the initial idea for this fic. It was the first urge I’d had to write fanfic since my Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver days, about... uh, fifteen years ago? I wrote six chapters, realized my plot structure was fatally flawed, put the fic away for five months, came back and rewrote it from top to bottom with a different focus & plot arc. It’s only 44k words, a modest length by the standard of fanfic long reads, but I’ve spent more time working on this fic than anything else that I’ve ever written. 

4.  The Color of the Wheat Fields - I found out about stillmadaboutpetra’s birthday the day before. They deserve gifts and nice things, so I wrote & edited this giftfic in a feverish last-minute fugue state. It was supposed to be a happy fic-- instead, it made them cry. Still feel bad about that. This fic is the reason I get misty-eyed whenever I see @calyxestra’s redheaded Geralt. 

3. Yearlings - Secret Santa gift fic for mondfuchs! I was aiming for a different style with this one-- sparer prose, a lot less inner monologue. I cut 2k words off the first draft, about 25% of the fic. Mondfuchs wanted a subtle fic about the unconditional trust & love that Geralt and Eskel share, so I set out to show the moment that Geskel became what they are-- that transition from bright-eyed kiddos goofing around in Kaer Morhen to the seasoned, jaded professionals who carry each other’s histories with a profound understanding beyond words. I think the fic works. Grateful to mondfuchs for the prompt & inspiration!

2. A Splinter in Time - My personal monster. This is me being my own psychopomp, marching down to the underworld and wrestling with the demons there. The fic’s not done yet; my first writing goal of the new year is to finish it. It may also be too harsh / brutal for anyone to really read, but that’s okay-- excavating that tar down in the deep is already changing me-- stories with happy endings are becoming possible again. Cheaper than therapy, if not easier.

1. After Tedd Deireádh - Artists can get kind of woo-woo about the nature of creativity and where their ideas come from. I get 100% woo-woo with this story. The first chapter poured out from who knows where, and Yen & Eskel did what they did against my own plans for the fic. It would have benefited from some editing after the fact, but oh well-- I love it in all its messy rawness. I needed a story like this. Thanks, invisible merciful muse or whatever, for donating one.

I was so, so excited to get you—your art for baby Geralt/Eskel was one of the things that got me into this ship in the first place, so it seemed only fitting that I give you some baby, troublemaking witchers with a lot of emotions. Hope you like it!
