part 2 of art in architecture in leopoldstadt, vienna. and again a mix of modern and traditional formal language, executed as sculpture, mosaic or sgraffito. sometimes the artworks refer to biblical themes (weintraubengasse), local handicrafts (große pfarrgasse) or history, such as former buildings or residents (rotensterngasse & czerniengasse).
I saw every single show that premiered on Broadway this season, you know, a perfectly normal thing everyone does. And in honor of the Tony nominations coming out tomorrow morning, I’ve ranked all thirty-eight shows and now you can too with this handy little tiermaker.
It’s really interesting to me that Leopoldstadt has a lot of double cast roles but doesn’t seem to bind them together. Like on the West End they had one actor play Jacob and Nathan, and on Broadway they had one actor play Ludwig and Nathan (both interesting pairings for different reasons). And in the original bway cast they had one actor play Fritz and Leo (weird choice imo) and when I saw it, Leo and Fritz were both either single cast or double cast w unnamed bit parts (I can’t remember). That’s unusual to me bc double casting is done frequently done w specific artistic purposes so it was surprising to see it’s not, to my knowledge/memory, indicated specifically in the text.
