Both of these arrived in their new homes and I can finally post about them!!

I made Ilaria Caliri’s Pedro the donkey and @littlebearcrochets’ Mini Dragon as (belated) Christmas gifts for my friends, and they both turned out really cute!

Pedro was longer to make, but I enjoyed both the construction and the embroidery bits. The only thing I had to alter was the saddle strap length, as my little donkey was a bit too fat for the indicated length. I also changed where some of the increases were to fight the hexagon look and the inevitable twist of spiral crochet. I sewed and resewed his head on until I managed to make it look right (sewing things in crochet is not my strong suit)… and it came out being cocked to the side, which makes him 100x cuter in my opinion.

If I didn’t like the sewing bit in the donkey, well, the dragon was full of it (at least it was good practice…?). Lots of fiddly little bits, and the entire product ended up a bit wonky, because I can only redo so much sewing before I default to “meh, good enough”. He’s still very cute, so it’s all good in the end. I changed the colors around from the original and gave him a little blush to match the red of the spikes.

I couldn’t find the indicated eye size for either of them at my local store, so I went for 8mm instead of 9 for the donkey and 6mm instead of 4.5 for the little dragon.

Also, you can really see on the dragon that I overstuffed :( Or arguably, didn’t crochet tightly enough. I used a 2.5mm hook with Phil Coton 3 yarn, which is usually my default, but I might try using a slightly smaller hook next time, especially if it’s with a darker color.

Anyway, they both got wrapped up after an extensive photoshoot, shipped out (despite the protests of my family, they’d gotten attached - and so had I!), and they’re now in their homes on the other side of the world. As my mother said, “it’s nice to know there’s a culture where you can give cute plushes as presents to 27-year-old men without it being considered ridiculous”. What can I say, my friends are the best :)

Taking a quick break from scarves and beanies for charity, day 88 is an amigurumi pokeball. It took 2 hours to make, using a pattern from LittleBearCrochets. The yarn I used is Red Heart With Love Metallic in Red, I Love This Yarn in White, and Red Heart Super Saver in Black.
