thoughts on nct dream and their character classes as presented in the smoothie mv

mark: martial artist

mark starts the mv with his high kick, and is engaged in hand-to-hand combat throughout. there is a bit of overlap between mark and jeno as both are non-wielders. however, i think mark is meant to be more of the skill fighter and jeno more of the strength fighter. in an rpg, i think mark would be a monk class. which is surprisingly fitting now that i'm reminded that he is a religious man.

renjun: sniper

he was wielding a large gun. i am actually kind of surprised because i would have expected him to be assigned something more magic-based. but i am taking the smoothie mv as canon. in an rpg, he would be the archer/sniper class. i think if there was a mountain archer class, renjun would suit that because of his slightly majestic vibe.

jeno: boxer

jeno is seen boxing (the strawberry) in the mv. as i mentioned above, he is technically also a hand-to-hand combat fighter. but i think of jeno as a fighter who is more focused on strength as opposed to dexterity. so other than non-wielder classes that are focused on strength, i think jeno would also suit classes that are axe-wielding or club-wielding as those tend to be strength-based. so either a monk or a berserker type class.

haechan: hypnotist/psychic

haechan explained in the mv reaction that he was trying to hypnotize the people, trying to control them to get to his target. he also mentioned that he wasn't quite able to fully subdue his opponent and had to take the item by force. i think haechan would be a mage who deals in the dark magic. so perhaps something like a sorcerer or a dark mage. second choice would probably be a mixed class where he can wield both magic and physical weapons.

jaemin: swordsman

jaemin is the fruit ninja confirmed. i noticed that the sword seems rather heavy, and he does wield it with both hands, so i think rather than a blade, he wields a longsword. ideally, jaemin would suit a longsword-wielding non-mounted unit. but if those are not available in a certain rpg, second choice would be any sword-wielding non-mounted class, and third choice would be a sword-wielding mounted unit (probably a knight class).

chenle: mounted unit/strategist

chenle was the trickiest. he is seen doing two things in the mv. he is taming and riding a horse, and he is playing chess. so he definitely seems like a highborn individual, a little prince who is well-educated. i think the horse takes precedent here in the sense that chenle will for sure be a mounted unit. originally i thought that chenle would have been a magic-wielding class due to him playing chess. however, he was arm-wrestling with his opponent. chenle also explained in the smoothie reaction mv that he was unable to defeat his opponent so he took the piece by force. so i think chenle can operate both with magic and weapons. i would consider chenle for any mounted class and then pick from there. i'd probably go with the magic-wielding mounted class over the weapon-wielding mounted class but i think both fit him.

jisung: parkour expert

jisung was the parkour expert which isn't technically a fighting style, but he's the utility guy, the one who can get around fast and who has other uses other than fighting. which frankly suits jisung. man looks like he could never hurt a fly. anyway, jisung would be the thief class on account of him getting around fast, but also having skills that are not directly related to fighting.

All around him, everything was ablazed. He took a deep breath in, feeling the smoke cradling his lungs in a familiar feeling. The only thing familiar as his mind was cloudy and his memories were foggy. Closing his eyes shut, he made his way to the forest line.

Shouts could be heard from behind him, along with the thundering footsteps and crackling whips. Turning around, he opened his clenched fist. Black flames spilled out of his palm–winding and intertwining in between his fingers.

Do they ever learn to stop?

Swarms of mages were running towards him, letting out battle cries while swinging their staffs and swords. Reveling in the magic energy in the air, he watched in boredom at their pathetic attempts to kill him.

Simply reaching his flaming hand out, he felt the bursts of energies flow down his arm and to his fingertips, finally releasing streams of black fire heading straight to the mages. He turned back towards the forest before they even hit, their cries of pain confirming his attack causing a dark smile to form on his face.

Suddenly, he heard whimpers coming from below him, feeling tiny hands clamp onto his leg. His face remained stoic as he observed the little child clinging onto his cloak, tears running down his red cheeks from his shut eyes. He crouched down, gently taking the child’s hands off of him. 

Looking at the child, he felt a wave of peace ride over his thoughts, despite the disaster surrounding around him. The boy gave off the most homely feeling and couldn’t have been older than six. “What’s your name?”

The child looked up at his crouching frame, eyes bright and full of innocence. 

“Jisung” he said in a tiny voice. 

“Jisung…” he repeated his name. Suddenly, he clutched his head. Face wincing as snippets of his memories flashed through his mind. A boy with brown hair, a group surrounding him, practicing their magic in the forest, nothing but bright smiles. And finally, a girl. A girl who looked back at him and smiled, a warmth unlike his fire spread through his chest at the sight of the girl’s smile. Just as she called out to him, the vision stopped and he was left with an emptiness in his chest. 

He was breathing heavily, hands unnaturally clammy as he looked at Jisung with wide eyes. Standing up, he pushed the little boy towards the forest line, grabbing onto his tiny fists that wanted to cling onto him. “Please let me go with you” Jisung cried, sobs spilling from his lips and hair matted to his forehead from sweat. “I don’t have anyone else, please!”

He hushed his cries, “I’m sorry.” he whispered solemnly. Although he couldn’t remember anything and why those people were chasing him, he knew he couldn’t have a little child by his side. Knowing that one day he will lead Jisung to danger. Jisung, although in hysterics, seemed to understand what this older boy was wordlessly saying and didn’t ask for anything more. Although he was young, Jisung could tell how powerful the man before him was, powerful enough for the magic council to attack his town. Magic practically oozed from the older boy as Jisung called out, “Hyung, what’s your name?”

The older boy’s frame stood rigid as he racked his brain for a name. Why? Why did nothing come to mind? He tried his best to remember a name but came up blank, absolutely nothing came to mind.

“I– I don’t know.” he said with pain and confusion etched in his voice. Jisung watched a shadow cross the nameless boy’s face as he turned around at the sound of more mages running towards him. 

Taking slow steps towards them, he lifted his hand as a magic circle formed above it. Even if he didn’t have his memories, he felt it. The magic coursing and wrapping itself through every inch of his body, unaware of the darkness that tinged it. He closed his eyes at the powerful feeling of being able to control his magic and amplified it.

What was once bright red flames shrouded itself in darkness, instead of red, black flames swirled around the enchantments. The magic circle growing bigger and more frightful as it raised above his head. 

Screams of terror met his ears as the fire roared around him with the wind picking up speed. His own confusion and frustration fueled his magic, heart racing as despite the fire enveloping his whole body, him and his clothes were completely fine. 

The entire council warily circled around him, ready to attack yet unaware of the utmost disaster about to come. He started to count.

Why did he feel a hole being dug in his chest every time a vision came to him?

One–the enchantment sparked.

Who was that girl with the smile that set his whole being on fire in such a different way than his own?

Two–the flames roared and licked at the air.

He turned towards Jisung and even through the army of mages, he met the young boy’s eyes. Eyes that were wide with fear but not for what would happen to the town–a fear for what would happen to the older boy. The older boy merely smiled at him and said one word. One word that rung in Jisung’s mind and made him bolt towards the forest with a heavy heart.

“Run.”

Three. 

The magic circle exploded at his fingertips, causing a loud explosion to echo throughout town followed by fire. So much fire. Fire encasing every plant, every house, every inch of the place. The council, even their screams, could not be heard nor seen anywhere as it rained ashes. 

All around him, black flames licked at his frame but did no harm to his body. Wanted papers littered the ground but he paid no mind to it, crunching on them with his black boots that were burnt around the edges.

okay OKAY i love this question because it got me thinking and now i have these:

renjun as beast (prince adam?) with an ugly scar that reminds him of his mistake every time he looks into the mirror so the palace owns none. he yells at you when you try to trespass and when you declare you want to stay, he almost sets the house on fire. he’s never met someone who gets on his nerves so easily. yet, your stubborn grin seems to grow on him, and even worse, makes his heart beat a little faster sometimes. you, on the other hand, no longer want to steal the rose of life from this awfully sweet boy that has lost more than most. 

jeno as general shang who might be a little annoyed with you, the new recruit who’s somehow even worse than the others. you probably shouldn’t have asked why the general is so serious and made some harmless jokes at his expense. in your defense, you had no idea he was literally right behind you. but wait, did he just smile at your joke? did he just compliment you on how you’ve improved in combat? did he just let you sneak in ramyun? did he actually say something funny? did his laugh just make your heart flutter? this is not what you signed up for. (but wars are more often than not what most people don’t sign up for.)

donghyuck as aladdin who strikes you a little eccentric for a prince the first time you meet him. he can be rather charming but you’ve seen him talk to himself and trip on his way down the stairs to greet you. he seems to have skipped a lot of lessons too - ones a prince should know. he has a sense of freedom though, and sunkissed skin and a contagious smile. he teaches you how to pickpocket, or how to dance like you’ve got feeling. he’s not as bad at instruments and music as he is with other things. now, if only you could get that street rat with the guitar and cheeky jokes about anarchy out of your mind already.

jaemin as prince charming being absolutely enamored by you at the ball only for you to disappear by midnight. he gets a dance with you - he’s heard your voice before, a little dreamy with the scent of saltwater. you could be a pirate’s acquaintance for all he knows, or worse, a wizard’s; after all, strangers don’t come around often. but it might help that you look suspiciously like the cute ornament seller by the sea who makes his heart race sometimes. 

chenle as peter pan (is he a disney prince??) who knocks at your window one night, a little injured and out of it. he says he was fighting flying pirates and you say that’s absurd but he simply raises an eyebrow instead of arguing. let me show you, he says. he takes your hand, and you’re suddenly off the ledge of your window. you hold on tight to him but he laughs, loud and clear as day. you can let go, he says and when you do, you’re flying. well, he wasn’t lying. the boy is full of surprises and neverland might not be what you thought it’d be.

jisung as flynn rider stumbling back into the river and splashing water everywhere when he sees your hair glow. because that was totally not what was supposed to happen. when he got stuck in a tower in the middle of nowhere, he did not expect to find a person with glowing hair. but hey, you’re kinda cute and you just wanted to see the flying lanterns, right? that’s not too far and he could help you get there. it’d be useful if he had any idea how to make conversation. you smile at him and his cheeks burn. it’s only a few hours till you get what you want. why do you keep glancing back though?

Ice. Ice is the only element that has died in this world and no mage possess such element power.

I've been hiding since my powers from the day an ice barrier was made by me. Being the last mage to possess such power is definitely hard when the world judge it to be a weak element.

As I walked through the dark streets of Seoul, I've encountered mages practicing in the most famous fighting school for mages; I saw the infamous Dan Hutchinson showing off his hybrid element powers while looking like the complete beauty he is.

Hutchinson is the vocalist of the worldwide famous band "Electryss V" (which I've never even heard a song). He has long black hair with a scene hair cut, pale skin, pink lips with a contrasting black lip ring and stunning green eyes.

Being invisible and watching mages fight was my plan until a quick and sharp ice stalagmite was accidentally shot by me, catching their attention.

"Shit! What are you going to do now, Mei?"

I whispered to myself while becoming transparent and running as fast as I could. But I was caught. Caught by a large pair of hands.

"An ice mage? So that a fake mage or the last mage to possess this weak element?"

A male voice said with disgust.

"Let go of me or you'll never see the sunlight again!"

I've frozen the stranger's hand in order to free myself.

"Thomas, let go of this young lady and go back to practicing, now!"

It was at this moment I knew things would never be the same again...
