SCRIBE
MarshClan Unique Rank | Multiple | art by @rainstride
Scribes are a small but incredibly vital group, specially trained from apprenticeship and tasked with the management of MarshClan’s ever-shifting territory. They are oftentimes the most agile, sure-footed, keen-eyed cats in the Clan, in addition to being skilled navigators, in order to survey the marshes swiftly and effectively. Though there is little restriction on who can train to be a scribe, the job is incredibly demanding and time-consuming, and it is not uncommon for cats who begin training as scribes to opt out to become warriors instead.
With the constant ebb and flow of the tides changing the territory daily, navigating it can be tricky even for experienced warriors. Scribes mitigate these challenges for their Clanmates by scouting the marshes and carving maps noting safe paths through. Scribes are typically the first cats awake and patrolling, particularly after storms or spring tides, when changes to the territory’s topography are the most drastic. They work closely with the Clan’s healers to monitor the growth of herbs, and are often the first to go to work constructing things to divert water flow away from vital areas. Salt marshes can be a harsh environment for many plants and animals, but scribes work to ensure both that the territory stays stable enough to provide for MarshClan’s needs, and that MarshClan doesn’t damage the ecosystem they live in. Scribes act as an advising council to the Clan’s leader and deputy on many internal affairs, and hold the collective ability to veto some decisions if they believe it will threaten the balance of the marshes’ ecosystem.
A scribe’s work seems to never be finished, but by working as a team, they ensure MarshClan’s prosperity – and make sure everyone gets time to rest. Though their skills are most frequently put to use in their jobs, many scribes have artistic and curious spirits, finding joy in learning about the natural world, and in the acts of carving or crafting – form and function should coexist!

Some more funky oc lore, the Doctor of Marshclan, Cactusblight is considered by herself and her clanmates to be a monster.
As an apprentice she killed a Changeling which led to the death of Neetlekit. Then after the violent passing of her mentor, she kept spiraling. She sacrificed an elder cat to draw out a water beast. She fumbled an amputation, killing her clanmate. She couldn't protect her own apprentice.
She's clumsy, a teasing friend, a kind mother figure, a lonely soul. She's willing to do what is necessary, no matter the cost. She's too much for her clan.
Her only soft spot is really her nephew, Barrelcomb. He's the young son of her deceased sister. The only soul she would never sacrifice.

the mountain territories
Tumblr media
more info and lore under the cut
the mountain territories were formed many years ago from the remains of the ancient pumaclan. over the centuries, the clans have split into distinct groups based on which ones prefer to live where.
CLIFFCLAN -pale grey-
Founder: Mountainstar
Current leader: Cuckoostar
Deputy: Sleetface
Medicine cat: Icecpond
Cliffclan used to be Mountainclan. a great clan which used to be over fifty cats strong. under the great Jaggedstar, Mountainclan fought and took tons of territory from every other clan, making them small and secluded. eventually, Jaggedstar became power-hungry, deciding to destroy the other clans, and leave infinite territory for her to lead. after that, most of the cats started a mutiny, and left Mountainclan. The cats that stayed with Jaggedstar became Cliffclan.
They are the only cats daring (or stupid, as the other clans say) enough to live on the high cliffs, away from the other clans. because of this, they are fairly aggressive to any cat trespassing in their territory. their pelts are often thicker than most, due to their often very cold temperatures.
The cats of Cliffclan hunt the birds and small rodents hidden in the cracks of the rocks, so they are always very lean because they get fairly little prey. Their camp is a large cave, conveniently situated between a few large boulders. but they never guard their camp, as they know that no cat will go so far just to raid their camp.
this clan is known for being very open with each other, to make up for what Jaggedstar did.
STONECLAN -dark grey-
Founder: stonestar
Current leader: Garlicstar
Deputy: Slugfoot
Medine cat: ashwillow
Stoneclan is made up of the cats that rebelled against Jaggedstar. since they are still developing, they accept any cat that wishes to join, for they still fear that Cliffclan will attempt to take them out. these cats are renowned for being excellent hunters, as well as very kind cats in general.
stoneclan’s territory consists mostly of rolling foothills and some higher peaks. they hunt small rodents, and occasionally young mountain goats. their camp is nestled between a few boulders, it it high up, so that any cat approaching can be seen from miles away.
AZALEACLAN -pink-
Founder: Azalea
Current leader: Crowstar
Deputy: Spiderstone
Medicine cat: Squirrelface
Azaleaclan is known for being fairly odd, they mostly consist of former kittypets and they are still somehow the strongest clan in the area. they are founded when a kittypet came upon the remains of Leafclan, which had been destroyed many moons previously. this cat brought some of it’s friends over and they created the unofficial Azaleaclan. nowadays, this clan thrives, living off the many rodents, birds, and even rabbits their territory has to offer.
their camp is a clearing in the sparse forest they call home. they treat the other clans with respect, but some of them look down on the newly formed stoneclan, despite them being not much older.
MARSHCLAN -brown-
founder: marshstar
Current leader: orchidstar
Deputy: cootwhisker
Medicine cat: adderfur
Marshclan is tiny, they were one of the first clans to settle, alongside Oakclan, Pineclan, Mountainclan, and Meadowclan. and they keep their allience with these clans to this day.

the clans
Tumblr media
The setting of this story is an island a little ways away from a mainland. It’s populated by some humans but only in a single part of the island, the rest is a preserve for the wild animals (which includes all the feral cats!!)
Sandclan: territory includes a set of cliffs and a stretch of beach. Sandclan cats enjoy swimming in the warm water, and are the only cats who do. They have long limbs, sleek fur, and pelts that help them blend in with the sand.
Leafclan: territory includes a thick forest that borders the twoleg place on one side, and the Sandclan cliffs on another. Leafclan cats tend to be large and muscular, and are capable of springing from the ground to climb trees.
Caveclan: territory includes a mountain, though the cats only explore the base, where there are a set of tunnels and caves that lead to places on the island only they know. Cavelan cats believe in a fifth clan that used to live on the snowy peaks of their mountain, and some fear this clan will return and try and take back the mountain. Caveclan cats are generally the smallest, with big ears, large eyes, and dark pelts that help them blend in to the shadows.
Marshclan: territory includes the field between the edge of the mountain and forest, and runs down to the beach, though the cats do not typically go near the water. Marshclan cats are quick and clever and hunt in large groups to take down big prey. They are the strongest cats and will fight to the death when they feel it is necessary.
clan lore:
kits receive their prefix when they are one moon old and are referred to by nicknames until then. kits and apprentices who die before receiving their warrior name will take on the suffix of their mother. leafclan will happily accept kittypets from the twoleg place that borders their territory, the other clans would need to be persuaded. Caveclan believes there used to be a fifth clan in their mountain, which the other clans don’t believe in. once a month, on the full moon, the four clans meet at the sky pool to discuss news. on clear nights the moon shines directly over the sky pool, and the clans worship moonclan as their warrior ancestors. (moonclan is basically starclan, im not that creative). behind the mountain of is a cave full of tide pools that catch starlight and moonlight, this is where medicine cats go to meet with moonclan.

Suffix System for the Nightfall Clans
(they’ve got their own blog @wc-nightfall , but its a little bare still. There are still four clans: FernClan, CoveClan, ThicketClan, and MarshClan, just for the sake of writing them out)
This should be fun! And another Coveclan! Lovely, I have one of those myself.
Medicine Cat Suffixes
-petal is reserved for medicine cats that have a special skill in working with plants.
(Gingerpetal, the only -petal in my clans currently, is an interesting -petal case: she’s actually horrible at growing plants, her skillset is best with preserving and figuring out how to use them, not so much growing.)
I appreciate the idea that medicine cats are also cultivating plants, I think its wise for medicine cats to be aware of their supply and actively care for it.
-song is reserved for medicine cats that are exceptionally kind and caring to all.
-berry and -leaf are appropriate for medicine cats that have a skill in working with plants.
-flower is appropriate for medicine cats that are skilled at healing and nursing cats back to health - ties into the forgotten motherhood aspect of the warrior suffix -flower.
-whisker is appropriate for medicine cats that are generally very intuitive or observant.
-heart is appropriate for medicine cats that have a very strong moral code and follow their heart.
-cloud is appropriate for medicine cats that are a jack-of-all-trades type.
These are all quite lovely, and well thought out, however I am wondering if these are exclusive to medicine cats? Some of these suffixes could easily be given to other warriors. I guess my question is, do your clans have more than two medicine cats each? If not, why are these suffixes considered to be only for medicine cats? How do they end up not becoming archaic due to their lack of use, if they are far less common than the other suffixes due to simply being available to less cats? This is not a criticism by any means, just curiosity.
Warriors, skill-based
-flight indicates a cat that is very light on their feet, fast, and agile.
-claw indicates a cat that is a very skilled fighter.
-whisker indicates a cat that is generally very intuitive or observant.
-nose indicates a cat that has exceptional tracking abilities.
-fang indicates a cat that is equally skilled in both hunting and fighting.
-heart indicates a cat that has a very strong moral code and follows their heart.
-frost indicates a cat that is very analytical and good with words.
I like this interpretation of -frost. I’ve always liked it as a suffix, Ive just struggled to find a good way to include it. Seems like you solved that!
-flower indicates a cat that is fiercely protective.
(-flower lore: used to be used for motherly cats, but obviously, queens were extremely protective of their kits and clanmates, and slowly, it became known that you didn’t want to cross a -flower cat, and from there it morphed into its current meaning.)
I can appreciate the idea behind this, but it seems a tad narrow of any idea. Being protective is not necessarily a skill, as much as it is an ideal, and that isnt always positive. Perhaps if you give it a bit more meaning? Like maybe the idea of serving their clan above all else, even if its not in the glory of battle, but the small parts of life like advising, supporting, rebuilding camp.  Just as a queen gives all for their kits, time, energy, everything. I guess ultimately my question is why did it stop being used for queens? Do the clans not value the position of queens or the idea of parental love and care? If thats the case that is fine different clans have different ideals, but you might want to discuss why it fell out of favor for queens even if it gained a new meaning for others. Do queens have another suffix instead? Or do they not have a suffix at all?  I’d love to hear more about this.
Warriors, appearance-based
-fur or -pelt indicates a cat that is a jack-of-all-trades type with a solid coat.
-stripe indicates a cat that is a jack-of-all-trades type with a tabby coat.
-storm indicates a cat that is a jack-of-all-trades type with classic tabby markings.
-feather indicates a cat that is a jack-of-all-trades type with a distinctive feathery coat.
-dapple indicates a cat that is a jack-of-all-trades type with a tortoiseshell coat. Very uncommon.
I really like the expansion of appearance based suffixes, particularly the use of -dapple here. -feather seems a bit a niche suffix, but that’s not bad, its just might indicate that long fur is either more common or more rare depending the clan. I am interested in the choice for -storm, it makes perfect sense, i’ve just never considered it before! You have some really good ideas.
Correlating
-step indicates a cat that has a distinctive gait that correlates with their prefix.
Archaic (actually my favorites lore-wise)
Just want to say, having archaic suffixes is genius! It says so much about the culture and the personal interference of leaders in naming conventions, as well as  just general naming trends!
-wing indicates a mostly white cat with a saddle on their back, has become less prominent due to less favoring skill-based or -fur and the lack of cats with this specific pattern.
This is another new interpretation of a suffix, but makes perfect sense, it also makes sense its uncommon, cant be too many cats out there with these markings at any one time probably.
-splash indicates a cat that is a jack-of-all-trades type with patches of color or white on their coat. There was a string of MarshClan leaders who weren’t fond of it, leading to its eventual downfall. Shellsplash and Coppersplash are the last two bearers of it. Notably, Coppersplash had nearly been named Copperwing, but that was around the time when -wing was losing popularity.
-stream indicates a cat that is very good in water. However, this skill has become more common and less of a special talent, and this suffix has fallen out of favor.
-foot indicates an especially fast and agile cat. Has been replaced with -flight for unknown (presumably aesthetic) reasons.
-blaze indicates a cat that is a true warrior. However, this name become commonly wanted, and apprentices began throwing themselves into danger in hopes of proving themselves, and it was quietly retired and shifted into the umbrella meaning of -claw.
I do appreciate this one, it definitely makes sense that apprentices would do something dumb to get a special name.
-tail indicates skill in climbing trees. Eventually, the clans realized that climbing trees led to a disproportionate number of injuries, and it was slowly phased out.
I would disagree with you on this. Cats have been climbing trees for as long as they have been cats. While falls might occur, I doubt it would occur to such a high degree as if humans were climbing trees. Sure cats might fall but they also have bodies built for shock absorption, and a mechanism which allows them to 99.9% of times land on their feet. The times when injuries might occur are inexperienced and young apprentices (who are still growing and who’s bones and bodies might be more sensitive) or the elderly for obvious reasons. In a clan with the right precautions it shouldnt be a major issue. Of course that is my personal opinion, so you can take that with a grain of salt.
-branch indicates skill in climbing trees. An archaic version of -tail.
-blossom indicates an unusual skill with plants, for medicine cats only. An archaic version of -petal, unclear why the shift occurred.
Anyhow, I know this list is really big, but some suffixes are a lot more popular in some clans, it gives room for leaders forgetting about some suffixes, there are surges in popularity of suffixes, etc.
I like this, its nice to see a naming system evolving and adapting. You did a really nice job! Keep up the good work!
-flower used to be used for motherly cats, but obviously, queens were extremely protective of their kits and clanmates, and slowly, it became known that you didn’t want to cross a -flower cat, and from there it morphed into its current meaning.

Hello popping back on tumblr for the first time in a while to promo these two warriors fics I’ve started publishing on wattpad!
I’ve been writing oc-centric warriors fan fiction since i started reading the books as a kid but some friends finally convinced me to start publishing it because it was driving me insane that I couldn’t talk about it with anyone.
The first one, “The Winter Trees”, is the one I’ve spent the longest one. It’s based on two fan Clans me and one of my best friends made as kids, using, yes, the original set of cats we created. That means there’s a couple odd names in there (mostly from me) but over the years I’ve adjusted stories, personalities, and lore to make things work.
“The Winter Trees” follows ForestClan and IceClan, two Clans that formed after a group of SkyClan cats, angry with how Cloudstar handled being run out, left and found a valley by the lake. Now the other four Clans have arrived, but they keep the story of SkyClan a secret in honour of Firestar’s wishes. This story follows ForestClan and IceClan as they live with the four Clans, experiencing much of the same struggles, but also many of their own. The current arc, ‘The Great Battle’, focuses on a few cats in each Clan as the Great Battle looms over the horizon.
The second is “Lotus of the Three Waters”, a sort of “what-if” scenario I wrote up for a group of Clans living in coastal Asia.
It follows LeafClan, MountainClan, and MarshClan and their own prophecies and stories. They do not have any overlap with the main Clans aside from an ancient tale of a warrior of another Clan finding themselves taken by Tall-legs and taken to a new home. The current arc, ‘Fangs’, focuses on a mysterious omen sent to apprentices in each of the Clans, and their struggle to try and get their Clans to believe them.
Both stories can be found here! They’re updated infrequently, but I try my best to update both with a chapter each on the same day.

HEALERS & SPIRITUALITY – MARSHCLAN
As with many things in MarshClan, devoutness or spiritual belief is largely down to the individual. Personal practice may involve cats volunteering to help out the Clan’s healers, or simply finding a place in the territory that facilitates feeling close to one’s ancestors. Though MarshClan cats do not see water itself as inherently spiritual, finding a reflection of the stars in the waters of the marshes often symbolizes StarClan being nearer to the living. Placing trinkets or tributes into still, reflective water is common – if they can be given to StarClan’s reflection, perhaps reflections of those offerings will reach the stars proper, too.
While the core beliefs of any cat who believes or was raised around belief in StarClan will have commonalities, spirituality as a whole tends to be something private. Even healers largely keep their trips to the Tidefall and communications with StarClan to themselves, unless they’ve received some urgent prophecy. StarClan’s warnings are taken seriously, but cats do not necessarily rely on their ancestors for guidance, and they certainly don’t wait for permission from the dead to take action. While MarshClan healers are trained to recognize signs from StarClan and interpret the prophecies StarClan passes along, they are generally far more focused on the medicinal aspect of their job. They work closely with the Clan’s scribes to monitor and cultivate the territory’s herb supply, and work hard to ensure the health of their Clanmates, with a particular focus on preventive medicine and safety unique to MarshClan. A healer’s duty is always, first and foremost, healing, and they are typically looked to for their knowledge of herbs more than as spiritual leaders.

Who are Flickerstar and Lizardfoots new kids in skyclan? And what is the deal with Flickerstar and Swiftwind!
SunClan cats have legit weddings (called Commitment ceremonies) and use the terms wife/husband/spouse, marriage, and divorce alongside the term Mates. Flickerstar (flickerfur at the time) and Lizardfoot were married for a few years and had Yuccaleaf (who renamed himself to Deadeye later in life, so some art and refs still refer to him as Yucca just in case you come across it and are confused), Chirpwhisker, and Dripcloud! They broke up after only a few years together. Flickerstar then married Dustclaw but that lasted less than a year. She then moved on and married Swiftwind of MarshClan, and they had Mesapelt and Dovetail. They are still very much in love, and this time it's going to stick (: Also incidentally, pretty much all of SunClan is related back to Flickerstar in some way. Her grandchildren are Vulturepaw, Buzzardpaw, the late Poppykit, Gilapaw, Rustkit and Claykit. Her children-in-law are Runningsweet (married to Mesapelt, parent of Gilapaw) and Whipwhisker (Married to Dovetail, father of rustkit and claykit) The deputy Spidershadow is Runningsweet's sister, so they're kinda related thru marriage too. Daisystar leader of SaguaroClan is Flickerstar's sister, they're both half-clan cats and their parents decided not to move Clans so they each took one kit. It wasn't traumatizing or anything, once the kits were old enough they gave them the choice to move where they wanted and it just ended up being one in each Clan. And Mudstripe and Pinyonpelt of MarshClan and their extended family are all well loved by Flickerstar and SunClan even though they're not technically related, because they are from Lizardfoot's first litter... But Mud and Pinyon don't really appreciate the open arms that SunClan offers because they feel like their dad abandoned them for Flickerstar. Oops!

Welcome to the World of Path Through the Shadows
Tumblr media
Meet our four clans, Mountainclan, Lakeclan, Forestclan and Marshclan.
Mountainclan: The Warriors of the Cliffs
On the eastern expanse of the territory lies an elevated forest, up in the mountains these cats reside. MountainClan is secluded, but not by choice, as their territory is on a natural plateau. These warriors are built for strength, climbing, and the bitter cold, as this territory is known for its extremes.
[ Join Their Ranks Here! ]
Lakeclan: The Warriors of the Rapids
The most water-oriented Clan, LakeClan feels most at home in the lakes of their territory. The lakes are large and deep, with scare dry land at the borders and on the edges of the bodies of water. LakeClan is strong in their build, with powerful muscles needed to tread the deep waters.
[ Join Their Ranks Here! ]
Forestclan: The Warriors of the Woods
Deep in the trees of the Clan territories lies warriors of the shadows, ForestClan. These cats are born into the shadows of the trees and call it home, more than comfortable in hunting and fighting in its low light. This Clan is the most secluded and hostile, prefering to keep to its own and quick to defend borders when threatened.
[ Join Their Ranks Here! ]
Marshclan: The Warriors of the Reeds
The marshlands are a difficult territory to survive in, but the warriors of MarshClan have learned to thrive here. While not as water-oriented as LakeClan, MarshClan is comfortable in the water, and their build reflects that. Their fur brushes off water easily, and they’re built for speed, both in and out of the water. Whether it be in the meadows or the marshes, the warriors of MarshClan can adapt to just about anything.

Lore: The Missing Star Point
Many seasons ago, long before any of the current living cats were born Treeclan, Grassclan, Oceanclan, and Mountainclan lived in a time of peace. It had been seasons since any cat had fought, but things still seemed off. The clans hadn't realized anything was missing, even with a huge piece of territory sitting in paws reach, unclaimed. But one day, that all changed. It was the night of the full moon, during a gathering. The clan leaders: Doestar of Treeclan, Honeystar of Grassclan, Tidestar of Oceanclan, and Hawkstar of Mountainclan were discussing their moonly clan news when suddenly a stranger’s yowl came off the horizon.
The four leaders turned to see a brown short legged tabby tom standing in the moonlight with a band of cats standing behind him, their eyes shining with fear in the moonlight.
"Rouges interrupting a gathering!" hissed Honeystar, ears flattening against her golden head. "Is there nothing sacred to these fox-hearts?"
The tabby tom raised his tail. "Please," he began, "Have mercy on us. We come to seek refuge among you, not a fight. We mean no harm. My cats and I wish to follow your way of life, if that is what it takes to survive. We have heard of the clans from far across the land, and realize that if we are to survive as long as you have, we must become one of you."
"Why should we trust you?" Tidestar snarled, his tail lashing sweeping sand off of his part of Split Rock.
"Starclan will not welcome a band of rouges onto our lands," noted Doestar, raising her muzzle into the air snobbishly. Murmurs of agreement rose from the crowd below Split Rock.
"If Starclan disapproves of us, let them show us a sign," meowed the mysterious tabby. The clan cats stiffened, their voices dying off leading way to an eerie silence. They turned their attentions to the sky, expecting something to happen. The clan cats expected the moon to be covered by clouds, a storm, a lighting bolt, anything to show Starclan’s disapproval. But to the clans' astonishment, no such sign came. Suddenly in the crowd, a medicine cat from Oceanclan named Lotusflower began to tremble, her tail fur bushed and her eyes wide as if in a trance. She yowled out in pain, gaining everyone’s attention. The cats surrounding her watched in horror, but none of the other four medicine cats with her dare move to help, or allow anyone else to approach. The leaders looked down at the seizing medicine cat with interest, aware that something important was happening. After a moment the she-cat settled down, rising to her paws shakily. She leaned against a couple of her fellow medicine cats, panting heavily. She swallowed harshly before raising her muzzle, parting her jaws to speak.
"Starclan has spoken to me!" Lotusflower exclaimed loud enough for all at the gathering to hear, though her voice was hoarse from the pain she had endured to receive the message. All the cats around her listened to the she-cat intently. "A Quiet Marsh shall flow through the land in order to form a brand new Star," she meowed in a voice that did not sound like her own.
"My name is Quiet Marsh!" The tabby tom exclaimed with surprise in his tone, taking a step back. The cats behind him shrank back in fear, mewling like frightened kits. This could only mean one thing. Starclan had approved of these new cats after all. The clan cats broke into an uproar. Some were rejoiceful over the new arrivals, while others spat in protest.
"Starclan has spoken," meowed one of the older medicine cats. The leader yowled in approval, silencing the frenzied crowd back down into soft murmurs.
“No matter how much us as living cats may disapprove,” began clan leader Hawkstar, “We must listen to the words of our ancestors. If they say that these are to be welcomed on our land, then it must be so.”
The other three leaders nodded at one another in approval to Hawkstar’s statement. They beckoned Quiet Marsh and his cats forward to join the crowd. Tidestar meowed for Quiet Marsh to join the other leaders on top of Split Rock.
“if you are to live as one of us, you must respect our traditions. You shall take on the name of a leader, just as the four of us have. From this point of, you shall be known as Marshstar, and your clan shall henceforth be named after you. Tonight you will speak with Starclan personally and receive your nine lives as a leader. Give thanks to them when you are brought to their presence, they are the only reason why you shall be staying here,” Hawkstar meowed to Marshstar.
On Split Rock, the five cats stood. The empty spot once used by the leaders to step up and make announcements now belonged to a leader of its own, and a clan. Marshclan. After the gathering, Marshstar traveled to the Moon Cavern. Lotusflower left Oceanclan to become Marshclan's first medicine cat, and escorted the new leader to receive his lives. Meanwhile, the band of ex-rouges were brought to the unwanted marsh lands by the clan cats to set their new boundaries and create a camp. While their leader was away the clans began to teach them what it truly meant to be a clan.
When Marshstar was officially given his name, Starclan proclaimed. "The land has received it's missing point. The four are no longer so. But rather, the new five, which make up the points of a star. The clans are now to be known as the Land's Star." From that day on there have been five clans. And that is how it shall forever remain.

hey blaine ! in your opinion, what's the BEST way to plan out fanclans for a story or for a comic or something?
hey there!!
to me, the best way to plan out fanclans is:
- take a while to think about the clans you want, the number of clans you want, their names, and their history. were they all created together? how are each clan different from one another? do they use different words/terms for one another? do they have different dialects? which clan is the newest, if any? which clan is the oldest? are their naming systems different from one another? do they view each other as allies or are they constantly at war?
- make sure to map out your territory in a way that would be realistic/make sense; basically, if you want to have a forest that’s set in reality, make sure you do some research on different plants/trees and streams that could be there!! if ur making up a territory thats not grounded in reality that’s totally fine and u can do whatever u want, but make sure to make that distinction!!!
- make sure your clan names are descriptive and make sense for the clan. a clan named waterclan likely wouldn’t be a clan who doesn’t hunt near water or swim, a clan named marshclan wouldn’t be a clan that isn’t in a marsh. go a little weird w/ clan names!!! maybe there’s a clan named jayclan who was named after a boastful leader and has no attributes, maybe there’s a clan named lightclan who veiws themselves as better than everyone else. what i mean is, clan names dont HAVE to be natural things - you can give a personal history that makes a fanclan seem a little prideful rather than grounded in their natural settings.
- it’s likely that a clan will have a certain #look to them and perhaps are based off of a certain breed; in canon, we all can sorta guess that msot windclan cats are small and lithe and perhaps based off of oriental shorthairs; thunderclan cats are big and brawny and probably have a lot of maine coon heritage. do that for you own fanclan!!!!
- how does your clan act towards outsiders??? how do they function as a whole???
- BASICALLY, remember to give your clans their own personal histories!!! go deep into the lore of them; if you want them to be completely separate from each other, let it be that way!!! if they’re extremely codependent on each other, write them like that!!!
