Making big stone portals now. Probably due to subconscious irrational hope it will teleport me the hell out of here (motherland wants me out of existence again)
Five years ago today I was in Avebury, Wiltshire in the UK, my favorite place outside Pennsylvania, to stay for a few days. I wish I’d had this phone so the photos would be better.
The Republic of Palau is a Pacific island country whose closest neighbors are the Philippines and Indonesia.
The islands have a humid equatorial climate. Therefore, they are simply buried in tropical greenery, most of the islands are uninhabited, and only a few have a permanent population. The indigenous people, 21,000 in total, are represented by local tribes, most of whom speak English and Palauan.
You can travel to this piece of paradise all year round. The air temperature is constant (+24-+28 °C) and frequent weather changes are possible only from June to October. There are over three hundred islands in the Palau group, most of which are declared nature reserves. They are famous, for example, for the lake of jellyfish, where there are more jellyfish than any other aquatic inhabitants. The world's only shark sanctuary is also located here. The underwater world of Palau is recognized as a wonder of the world for its diversity.
You can find there not only marine inhabitants, but also a huge number of sunken ships, as well as downed aircraft. The coral coast is indented with caves open to the public. Palau is an ideal destination for diving, fishing, water sports, hiking and short island trips with stunning natural beauty.
Considered one of the poorest villages in Italy, Nardodipace has just more than 1.000 inhabitants. A place where one can still perceive an ancient simplicity in everyday gestures. Time is precious here, inhabited mostly by humble farmers who work a land that is often severe, sometimes cruel. The love for the land is so strong that sometimes who lives there renounces to dream of a different life, even cursing himself for the too many lives he has taken away, but also because of the isolation forced by difficulty, unsavory and abandoned roads. Shaking hands and the word given is more valuable than anything else: a place where the non-local is called “Forestieru” but where the initial mistrust is transformed, with human sincerity, in courtesy, welcome and familiarity, with a great desire to tell and be heard. We are accustomed now to give value to places only on the basis of what is produced, but the true value of places and countries lies in the people who live there, they know them and that in spite of everything they love them. A parallel world.
Nardodipace is also famous for its megaliths considered by experts to be a place of worship dating between the Bronze and Iron Ages. The site is found in Nardodipace on the Ionian side of the Serre Mountains.

Archaeologists have unearthed a 4,700-year-old megalithic cicle in the high Andes of Peru, at a location known as Callacpuma. This extraordinary site, built by ancient nomads around 5,000 years ago, sits over 3,000 meters (10000 feet) above sea level, revealing a unique ceremonial space where offerings were made to long forgotten gods.
Featuring large megalithic stones arranged in two concentric circles, Callacpuma is a testament to the complex societies formed by hunter-gatherers in what is now Peru. This site predates other monumental constructions like Stonehenge by nearly two millennia, marking it as one of the earliest known megalithic sites north of the Andes.
Megaliths and portals again, now small enough to be pendants. Resin, wood, crushed pebbles. Stone circles and labyrinths next (guess who listened to too many anthropology and history podcasts)
5 years ago I visited this place with some people who live nearby and know way more about it than I do. I got inside the circle and took loads of pictures. The weather was grey but not raining like it was a few mornings later when I visited again.
