For a 2021 documentary, former Arsenal player Paul Merson brought together three fellow ex-footballers recovering from gambling addiction - Keith Gillespie (Newcastle and Northern Ireland), John Hartson (Arsenal and Wales) and Scott Davies (Reading) - to discuss their lives and losses. Tony Adams, Merson and Hartson's former Arsenal captain, founded the Sporting Chance clinic in 2000. It provides support and treatment for current and former athletes to overcome a range of addictive disorders. Adams told the Times in 2022 that Sporting Chance sees more athletes with addictions to gambling than alcohol, describing gambling as "the drug of choice for the Premier League footballer". While perceptions around addiction are shifting, some mental blocks remain. "There is an issue with athletes seeking help, generally, compared to the general population," explains Alex Mills, head of education and communication at Sporting Chance, which had more than 1,000 people in its care last year. "There's a macho aspect to it. There's an ego that's needed to thrive in that world but that can often equate challenges with weakness."

Ascolto indifferentemente Billie Holiday, Etta James, Dizzie Gillespie... Poi magari passo a De Gregori e Daniele Silvestri, a Bruce Springsteen ai Rammstein!
Sono una e mille.
E tu... non hai capito un cazzo di me...
Peccato...

Axios
Oct. 26, 2022
A new advocacy group staffed with climate movement vets just launched with a laser focus on big U.S. industrial sources — think metals, cement, chemicals, paper mills and more.
Driving the news: Industrious Labs intends to work with "labor, impacted communities, elected officials and industry to find solutions."
The big picture: Its work will span campaigns, research and analysis, supporting other groups working on industrial decarbonization and communications.
Industrious Labs has a $3 million 2022 budget raised from climate foundations and other groups, organizers say, and 12 staff members.
The goal is to revitalize these sectors with cleaner tech to create jobs. The launch follows months of quiet organizing, such as creating a network with other green groups focused on aluminum.
Why it matters: Heavy industry's impact doesn't get the attention of power plants and tailpipes, but it's a huge chunk of U.S. and global emissions.
This graphic below about U.S. emissions adapted from analysis by Rhodium Group, a climate research firm, shows why tackling industrial sources is such a big deal.

Zoom in: Three co-founders and partners — Victoria Chu, Nachy Kanfer and Evan Gillespie — once worked for the Sierra Club's "Beyond Coal" initiative.
The group is also out with an interactive map of U.S. plants and emissions.
What they're saying: Chu said data "accessibility and actionability" is vital.
"That data — most critically the emissions and who is harmed — is often proprietary or hidden behind paywalls and technical jargon," she said in a statement.

LÉGENDES DU JAZZ
JOE PASS, LE ‘’GOLDEN BOY’’ DU JAZZ
"Bebop, Latin, ballads, blues, originals, solos, duos, trios, big ensembles--Joe did it all. No player in recent memory has made so many recordings in so many styles and contexts... In all probability, Joe Pass [was] the most versatile, well-rounded, mainstream guitarist in history."
- Jim Ferguson
Comme Pass l’avait expliqué plus tard au cours d’une entrevue accordée au magazine Down Beat,  "My father thought I showed signs of being able to play. And his object in life was not to have his kids do the same thing he did--work in a steel mill. He wanted them all to have a better education, or some better kind of livelihood. My father would go to the music store, and if he saw any book that said 'guitar' on it, he brought it home." Dans une autre entrevue, Pass avait précisé: ‘’You have to have the instrument in your hand till it feels like an extension of yourself, and for me holding the guitar for seven hours a day-and hating it, did just that.’’
Comme Pass l’avait précisé au cours d’une entrevue accordée au magazine Rolling Stone, "My father was very strict, but he got sick, and he could no longer exercise any restraint. That was my chance to get out. I came to New York, and I was here in 1944 and '45 hangin' around. I played some gigs, heard Bird [saxophonist Charlie Parker] and [pianist] Art Tatum. Then, I got involved in drugs."
[he] would come to New York a lot, then get strung out and leave.’’
Comme Pass l’avait précisé en entrevue, ‘’staying high was my first priority; playing was second; girls were third. But the first thing really took all my energy."
Tirant des leçons de son expérience, Pass avait déclaré au cours d’une entrevue qu’il avait accordée au magazine Down Beat: "A lot of kids think that in order to be a guitarist, they've gotta go out and be a junkie for 10 years, and that's just not true. I can't credit any of that time, saying that's when I really learned. I spent most of those years just being a bum, doing nothing. It was a great waste of time."
Particulièrement fier d’avoir pu enregistrer cet album, Pass avait expliqué: ‘’It was a great kick to be working with a full rhythm section again, and it was a challenge to play with musicians who were more or less new to me... It was truly a cooperative, compatible group.’’
Interrogé par le magazine Guitar Player, Pisano avait commenté: "He sounded better than most guitarists, but afterwards, he looked at me with a tear in his eye and said, 'I can't play anymore.' It was like a knife in my heart."
Dans un hommage publié dans le même magazine, le critique Jim Ferguson avait résumé la carrière de Pass en écrivant: : "Bebop, Latin, ballads, blues, originals, solos, duos, trios, big ensembles--Joe did it all. No player in recent memory has made so many recordings in so many styles and contexts... In all probability, Joe Pass [was] the most versatile, well-rounded, mainstream guitarist in history." Pour sa part, le critique et historien du jazz Leonard Feather avait qualifié Pass de ‘’most exciting new talent on jazz guitar to emerge since Wes Montgomery came to prominence in the 1950s.’’ Quant au New York Magazine, il avait écrit au sujet de Pass: "Joe Pass looks like somebody's uncle and plays guitar like nobody's business. He's called 'the world's greatest' and often compared to Paganini for his virtuosity. There is a certain purity to his sound that makes him stand out easily from other first-rate jazz guitarists."
‘’He weaves his own fast-moving chords and filigree work so nimbly that it is hard to believe fingers can physically shift so quickly. Slight moustached, fairly balding, he frowns over his fretwork like a worried head waiter with more guests than tables but the sound that comes out could only be the confident product of years of devotion to the instrument... But it is when he plays completely solo, which he does for half of each set, that he comes into his own, because without hindrance of the rhythm section he can completely orchestrate each number. Sometimes it is by contrasting out of tempo sections with fast-moving interludes, sometimes by switching mood from wistful to lightly swinging, sometimes by alternating single-note lines with chords or simultaneous bass line and melody – the possibilities seem endless.’’
"I always feel like I could have done better", avait déclaré Pass.

#OscarPeterson (p) #DizzyGillespie (tp) Producer - #NormanGranz Liner Notes - #BennyGreen Photography - #PhilStern Side A A-1."Caravan" (Duke Ellington, Irving Mills, Juan Tizol) A-2."Mozambique" (Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson) A-3."Autumn Leaves" (Joseph Kosma, Johnny Mercer, Jacques Prévert) A-4."Close Your Eyes" (Bernice Petkere) Side B B-1."Blues for Bird" (Gillespie, Peterson) B-2."Dizzy Atmosphere" (Gillespie) B-3."Alone Together" (Howard Dietz, Arthur Schwartz) B-4."Con Alma" (Gillespie) https://www.instagram.com/p/CknQMDiPpxj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Pittsburgh moves upgrade#
Pittsburgh moves full#
The website, email address and social media presence have been updated to ATImaterials. Other upcoming changes for ATI in the Pittsburgh region include a move in August from PPG Place to a new Enterprise Resource Center, which Gillespie called a progressive workplace in the Vision on 15th Street in the Strip District. Gillespie said the move to Dallas formalizes an independent, central location that will help strengthen the company’s strategic focus. The Steelers made multiple roster moves on Tuesday, including one following practice.

More recently, $30 million was invested in Latrobe for an Electric Arc Furnace and $85 million in Vandergrift to upgrade the cold anneal line, add titanium capabilities to the hot anneal line and add a slitter to give the operation the capability to produce larger specialty coils. Pittsburgh Steelers Transactions: Information on all of the roster. In 2015, $1.2 billion was put into the Hot Rolling and Processing Facility in Brackenridge, “one of the world’s most powerful roughing mills,” she said.

“We’ve invested $1.4 billion in the last decade to make this a specialty materials powerhouse,” Gillespie said. We are a full service household moving company serving all of Western Pennsylvania & beyond. Western Pennsylvania, particularly the Alle-Kiski Valley, will continue as the hub for ATI’s Specialty Rolled Products business. United Steelworkers Union spokesperson Tony Montana had no comment since, he said, “this doesn’t appear to impact any USW members.” The change was filed Wednesday, June 22 with the Security and Exchange Commission. The announcement will have little impact on the 1,500 employees in Western Pennsylvania, Gillespie said. “We took several actions to reposition ATI as we continue on our path to becoming an aerospace and defense leader,” she said. We adopted the name most of you know us by because while the challenges we solve are difficult, our name doesn’t have to be. That’s it: ATI is now our official company name. All Rights Reserved.A new executive headquarters for one of the region’s largest employers will not diminish its presence in Western Pennsylvania.Īllegheny Technologies announced its home base will leave Pittsburgh and relocate to Dallas.Īt the same time, it adopted ATI as the official company name to match “what most already call us: ATI,” spokesperson Natalie Gillespie said. Welcome to 1925 – Henry Mills !! I hope you feel right at home here in Sydney. Before you get too comfortable and see what all our city has to offer, be sure to review our CHECKLIST. We’re so glad to have you with us, Doe !!
Tumblr media
Look who just woke up- is that CHARLIE GILLESPIE? No, I must have been mistaken, that’s HENRY MILLS from ONCE UPON A TIME . I heard he is 21 and stuck here just like everyone else. Even in the 20’s, they still give off A BOOK ABOUT FAIRY TALES SITTING ON HIS BOOK SHELF, INK COVERED HANDS AFTER WRITTING A STORY, A MOTORCYCLE ROARING DOWN THE ROAD, HAVING THE HEART OF A TRUE BELIEVER impression. They’re known to be quite IDEALISTIC, but have a tendency to be STUBBORN on their bad days. (doe)
