Introduction!

Hey my name is Mina, I'm a 23 year old trans girl from the US and I'm obsessed with learning languages. I am a native English speaker, and a heritage speaker of Spanish although my speaking ability is pretty rough these days. The language I have studied the longest is Japanese which I started learning in March of 2014! I have also self studied French and taken a couple classes. It is definitely the worst of the languages I can use with any sort of competence.

Lately I've been focusing on improving my speaking ability Japanese and Spanish by talking with tutors and trying to get more listening practice in. I've also started Dutch! It's a language I've dabbed in previously but I'm hoping to gain some consistency with it this time around.

In the future I know I want to study Korean and German as well.

Haven't been on langblr since like high school? So glad to be back.

It's very funny seeing the dunning-krueger effect in action while being fully aware that its happening. Whenever I've been watching or reading stuff in Dutch, I'm starting to understand a lot of the more common words and grammar constructions, in other words I've gone from understanding nothing to understanding being able to understand some things.

My brain has been going like "wow we basically can read Dutch no problem after only a couple weeks". But I know eventually the stuff I don't understand is gonna start to pop out to me more and it's gonna feel like I know less even though I know that's just part of the learning process. At least I think I'm more prepared for it this time.
