A New Tomorrow {The Demigod and the Princess}

Moana wasn’t surprised when she had woken up from the dream, it was a normal Swynlake thing at this point. It wasn’t like she had nearly died but she did get to watch people die for a game and that’s what had bothered her.

Again and again Swynlake brought out the worse in people and the worse in her. And with her final year looming the pressure had been sending Moana in tisy. 

But this dream, waking up from it, had her calling her parents, asking for strings and looking up plane tickets as an option.

Unlike when she came to Swynlake though Moana wasn’t running. If she had, she wouldn’t be here asking Maui to meet her for drinks. Two years ago they wouldn’t be doing this either.

“So what was your story this time? I’m guessing you tried to be a champion?”

Busy, busy, busy!

Sylvia was very busy! It was because she’d seen a significant drop in activity that week. She wouldn’t admit to it, but the woman had been spending a bit too much time in a particular chapter of Of Love and other Demons, which she’d found to be a wonderful recreation of a colonial latin american town without much problems, since she didn’t have a way to interact with the main conflict of the story, anyway.

Still, staying behind in a little town drinking hot chocolate had its consequences. Her work was behind, as a new batch of books had been brought to the library - result of a generous donation - and she had yet to arrange them in their corresponding bookshelves before her shift was over.

The librarian realized what time it was when she left the book in the afternoon and, as such, decided to hurry up with her duties. She stuck the bookmark into her shirt pocket and walked out of the archives to take care of business.

Things were going well - As well as doing things in a hurry could go. The woman walked with a pile of book in her arms toward the nearest bookshelves, those that were right next to a few reading tables, and climbed up the ladder to start arranging everything. She didn’t pay much attention to the student studying nearby.

As she juggled the books around, Sylvia’s heels slid through the ladder accidentally, and she gasped as a pair of tomes raised in the air with the intention to fall. She reached out with what some would call superhuman reflexes, which for her only happened when it was about valuable books for whatever reason, and sighed with relief.

The relief didn’t last long. As she hung up there, holding the books, the librarian witnessed the way the bookmark slowly slid out of her breast pocket. “Shit,” she mumbled, and looked at the books, then at the sort-of heavy bookmark again. As it finished sliding out, she promptly discarded the books in the air, instead reaching for the magical artifact and, in the process, falling down. Yep, right onto the guy who was studying down below. And on his book.

It took only seconds, but the sight of a multitude of wooden houses and an old-timey market vanished in. Where the promise of a terribly awkward encounter with one of the university students was a second earlier, the woman found a rural view of rolling fields and a stream. It was sort of pretty, in truth.

Looking down, she bore witness to a rather uncomfortable dress wrapped around her body. Not very pretty, either, if you asked her. In her hand was still the unknown book with the bookmark within, so she took a deep breath. Then, she looked to the side, and, well, a young gentleman was there, standing with her, on top of a wooden cart in the middle of a market. Was that the student...? Had she dragged him in accidentally? ...And why was everyone staring at them, anyway?

Opal- Nov 30, 11pmBellamy and Aiden- June 12, 3am 🔠- Who named them? What does their name mean?

Opal- Hades named him after dead mother, her name means “precious stone. Bellamy- named after Belle, name means “fair friend.” Aiden- named after Hades, name means “little fire” or “ardent.”

💤- Was it difficult to get them to fall asleep at night?Opal- She’d fall asleep, but she’d wake up a lot. Bell and Aiden- both were basically nocturnal as children because they couldn’t control ghost stuff and the ghosts would bother them at night. snoozed a lot during the day. 🌀- Were they a social, giggly baby? Or were they a shy baby who did not like forced socialization?Opal- curious child. She didn’t mind getting held by others, but she like kind of looked offended if it happened like “omg mom dad wtf is this?” She also touched things a lot. You couldn’t leave her alone because she’d find her way into something.

Bell/Aiden: They were finicky kids who had bad separation anxiety I feel. Aiden was /louder/ than Bell and more demanding but both had issues with ppl ahah. 🍳- What is their favorite childhood dish?Opal- uh. Fresh. Strawberries.

Opal- Opal had a blanket she carried everywhere and she sucked on the tail end of it.

Bell- he carried around his fave PICTURE BOOK started young ppl

Aiden- he was more of a lego and blocks kind of guy. 🏡- What kind of environment did they grow up in? Was it in a rural or farmlike home? Or did they grow up in the cities? Or were they a small town/suburban child?They grew up in Swynlake! In Belle’s house! So small town life, surrounded by magic. Stable household in that their parents loved each other and never like coddled their children. Unstable household in that i’m sure u know disasters erupted all the time.

👦🏻- What was preschool/kindergarten like?

Opal- she found like a few friends and honestly loved going to school. Loved bringing home her assignments to show her parents was a goodie goodie two shoes

Bell- stuck to Aiden’s side like glue. Daydreamed a lot and got into trouble for it.

Aiden- stuck to Bell’s side like glue. If he made other friends-- he probably made one or two-- he told them they had to be Bell’s friend too. Talked during class and got in trouble for it. 👧🏻- What was elementary/middle school like?Sort of in the saaaame vein, Opal still loved school and loved her homework. Aiden was warming up to it more and he was probably separated from Bell at this point so he had to make other friends which u know, he did more or less-- made one or two. He started to like getting #praised for assignments and shit so he took school more seriously.

Bell meanwhile was still a daydreamer though he excelled at literature and probably history. He was def the faves of some teachers . 👱🏻‍♀️- What was high school/college like?

At this point, Aiden became VERY competitive of Opal and hated coming up behind her since she was a fave of her teachers and /everyone/ knew Aiden as “Opal’s Little Sister.” He took school very very seriously and started getting involved. He was pretty popular though he wanted popularity for the status, not because he cared so much about what people thought of him honestly. Opal-- was a goodie two shoes ahah though by this point she probably was getting into magical hijinks that made her late or made her have to ask for an extension on her paper. Still cared about school but cared more about what she was investigating out/side/ of it. Very Hermione Granger esque as you can imagine.

Bell kept to himself, didn’t really havea  lot of friends, but was involved in those pockets of passion-- probably in a book club, probably worked in the school’s library, probably ate lunch with the librarians ahahah. He is the least interested in magical hijinks. Whereas Aiden probably uses his powers to get ahead and is interested in mediumship (it’s something that distinguishes him form Opal), Bell sees them as just another part of his... being like-- he has blue eyes, he can talk 2 ghosts so what.🌋- How often did they get caught doing something bad?

Opal- tbh-- enough. By the time she’s a teen, she’s up to her neck in magic(k) drama. Uses what I honestly think is a -puff secondary to skate by tho bc she’s a genuine hard worker. Also, people don’t expect it from Opal haha

Aiden- he’s a slippery guy so not that much. Can talk his way out of it normally.

Bell- is dragged into drama bc of his siblings ahaha but he’s no snitch. /has/ taken the fall once or twice but makes sure Aiden and Opal pay him back for it haha. 🌡- Did they get sick a lot as a child? Did they ever have to go to the hospital for any reason?

Opal- i gave her a heart tumor

Aiden- his sensitivity to ghosts means that he is cold and when he was younger, he would get headaches and got sleep deprived a lot. He feels the pain of ghosts more potently than his brother because he has worked harder to be in touch with his powers (this can mean that he can spontaneously develop an allergy if he’s channeling a ghost ahha)

Bell- same vein as Aiden but not as sensitive. deprived HIMSELF of sleep bc he reads too much. 🎀- What kinds of games/activities did they like to play?

Opal- she liked to read, write, doodle, play pretend!! probably loved charades and also she liked acting, mostly for the community more than like a, desire to be on stage or anything. Though she also always wanted to be a lil ‘special’ soooo maybe u like the stage more than u think.

Aiden- reading, writing, likes chess and puzzles like his dad. cheats at battleship. he got into student council and the like at school and was also interested in magic and the occult bc of his powers so u know demonology, ghost hunting etc

Bell- reading, reading, reading. History buff (likes talking to ghosts mostly for the /history/ he can learn). Also likes science fiction more than fantasy tbh because magic is just an ingrained part of his life so science fiction seems /more/ fantastic to him so I think he would have an interest in astronomy too. Has a telescope and like star charts on his wall. 🎏- Did they have a lot of friends? Can you describe a few?

Opal- definitely had friends, i feel like she had like 2-3 that followed her up through all those years of schooling. Made some theater buddies also

Aiden- made most of his friends in high school but they were ‘school friends’ to him and so he didn’t hang out with them that much outside of Swynlake (besides to work on school projects). I can see him having some girl best friend who he ended up dating tbh i could see him having a high school relationship the most.

Bell- friends with librarians, teachers, and his mother lmao. kidding. He definitely had one or two friends in book club or astronomy club ahah. If you asked him, he’d say Aiden and Opal are his best friends. 💢- Did they ever have a rebellious phase?

Opal- sort of? I dunno, Belle and Hades would be trusting parents who gave their kids freedom and independence. Once she was diagnosed with a HEART TUMOR maybe then she’d go wacko for a bit ahaha try to like have sex and go to parties and have a teen life crisis. She def sometimes skipped classes or didn’t tell her parents where she was going but... its fine.

Aiden- honestly, no. He /seems/ like he’d be a rebel but he’s sort of all hot air and performance. He’d get into some of those darned magical hijinks ! but Opal is usually the ring leader, not him. Ironically enough, his rebellious phase was like-- becoming a hardworking popular student in order to compete with Opal lmao. he rebelled the opposite direction.

Bell- uhhh no, not really ahah. he can have attitude problems though for sure. Probably smart-mouthed to teachers he doesnt respect or wasn’t sensitive to kids in his class and would ignore Belle and Hades about chores and stuff. Also lies for his siblings all the time. He’s not an instigator but he is an enabler.

YES. in their unique ways, they do! :D

🗯- How well did they get along with their siblings?

Pretty well overall! They feel like a “team” and they are like a little over a year (18 months? sure) apart. Aiden clashes with Opal the most. Bell doesnt like when Opal tries to “mother” him and Opal can feel alone sometimes when its the Aiden-and-Bellamy show which it is a lot bc ghost powers and communicating thru ghost-speak but-- overall, they always have each other’s backs and they love each other WAY more than they like other people.

mitte's bastard child, all of 'em -- we all know we want it

When is their birthday? Where were they born? What was the time of day? OK she deff had one kid late July bc lbr if ANYONE is having halloween sex it’s Mitte,  and probably born early evening?? Idk much about childbirth but that’s the #vibe I’m gettin. I also think she’d have a December baby mostly bc I wanna imagine Mitte trying to make her kids’ birthday special even tho it’s so close to Christmas. Tbh she’d probably have her kids in a hospital? Get her that epidural she ain’t having no home birth no thank u so messy.

Who named them? What does their name mean? UuuuhhHh part of me thinks she’d want to stick to Dutch names because it’s like the only tenuous life history link she has. A girl she’d name Alina, which means noble, and the boys name would be Markus, which means warring.

Was it difficult to get them to fall asleep at night? YES but like Mitte doesn’t sleep for long hours anyway and is a light sleeper so she did not mind so much hoenstly sometimes she kept them up just to hang out w/ them lil cuties.

What was elementary/middle school like? a lil more boring for Mitte since she couldn’t take them out so much. Markus kinda went through a rebellious phase but Mitte didn’t do TOO too much to stop him, just let him get it all out, and Alina discovered she really liked MATHS what a loserrr.

👱🏻‍♀️- What was high school/college like? UGH the wildest time. Mitte loved watching them grow up but it could be real hard not to intervene but she didn’t want to be overbearing. It was also COOL tho bc Markus joined a DEBATE team which he loved and Alina went to prom BY HERSELF bc boys are #DUMB and she had the best time.

How often did they get caught doing something bad? Not often tbh??? Mitte was pretty honest w/ her kids about her past and so they felt comfortable going to her with things and she was happy for them to like have a lil drink in the house etc and so they sorta respected boundaries and even if they weren’t well behaved necessarily they didn’t often do things Mitte didn’t know they were doing.

Did they get sick a lot as a child? Did they ever have to go to the hospital for any reason? Markus got sick easy when he was a baby bc he was born kinda premature but he got better. Tbh Alina went to hospital a few times bc she wanted to be like her mum and run everywhere in heels but she was bad at it.

What kinds of games/activities did they like to play? Markus and Alina would prank Mitte ALL the tiem tbh and she’d always get them back they like just constantly were always tryna 1up eachother on the pranks. Markus also was weirdly obsessed with bop it for a while, Alina loooves anything animal crossing

Did they have a lot of friends? Can you describe a few? Despite Markus being the quieter one when they were babies he actually had a wider group of friends, they were all like chill guys who played x-box together and discussed debate strategies, and he’s been friends w/ most of them since primary school. Alina had a smaller group like she had 3 really good friends whom she met in highschool (before that she had like a big group of people to hang with but no real close friends ya feel???) and they were always having sleepovers bc Mitte’s house was the cool house.

Did they ever have a rebellious phase? We talked about this Markus got a lil wild for a while in primary school. Alina started like some activist shit during college but that was less rebellion and more protest? She stuck with it still a boss ass activist chick.

Did they ask a lot of questions when they were younger? Did they like to explore the world? ALINA is travelling the world RN doing cool stuff for charity, Markus is more of a home bunny but he still likes to know lots ofc, and when they were young they’d ask lots about their dad, but Mitte never told.

How well did they get along with their siblings? Markus and Alina have a kinda typical sibling thing going on tbh, they’re only a couple years apart in age so there was a lot of like fighting and stuff when they were young, but as they got older they got closer.

Dipper was blazing a new path for himself and part of that new path was that he wanted to commit to this web series of his. He had it planned out: each episode, he’d tour another Swynlake local spot and edit the footage with him telling of the local legends. He wanted it to be kinda spooky, but also informative. And he’d managed to wrangle Merida and Maui to come with him on this first footage gathering!

When Penny came across Maui, it was absolutely because she had been looking for him. She had waited a few days since they had dredged the body up out of the river, but once she had heard she had already made her mind up; she was going to check in, make sure that he was alright. A few days was enough time to at least begin to process something like that, she thought. If he was going to get over it, maybe she’d be able to tell, after a few days grace.

She wasn’t there for the Squire - the article had already been written, and she’d had very little to do with it, what with having uni work and football and all the rest of it. The Squire already had all the details they needed; Penny was just there as a friend.

Though if she did find out some details, well. Maybe she could relay them to Lady and cross-reference them, see what they already had.

Penny threw her bag down into the grass first, an announcement of her presence before she flopped down beside it, legs extended out in front of her, crossed at the ankle. She was getting used to this spot on the quad; she hadn’t exactly meant to. “Hey,” She said, nudging Maui with the toe of her converse. “You okay?”

A Promposition || (Kiwi)

At the basis of all things. Kida had come to Swynlake in order to experience surface life at it’s--well, maybe not its purest, on account of the fact that she had chosen Swynlake instead of London or something--simplest, and yet so far she had continued doing everything she would’ve otherwise done anywhere else. That meant attending events as a reporter, or otherwise with foreign diplomats (even if Elena didn’t really count anymore), spending her days  fretting about the next post, and, albeit accidentally, stopping town-wide magical instances. 

It wasn’t really the common experience. 

She felt like she was failing her one purpose in the town, so--Kida wanted to go to prom.  She wanted to go with a date, wear a lovely dress, and post lovelier instagram photos of the night without an ulterior motive or the need to remind people that the link to her blog was in the description. That’s what Kida wanted

The first step in attaining this was, of course, the matter of a date. Thankfully, she had one person in mind. 

Kida found Maui not on campus, but down by the aptly named Atlantis lake. (Not quite home away from home, but uh, sure.) She waved him down from the path before meeting him halfway in the grass. She brought no attention to the flowers sticking out of her purse. 

“Mr. Hero to all, long time no see--I had a question for you.”

Sweet Facades {The Demigod & The Princess}

Being home felt good, even wither everything around her destroyed and torn apart Moana was happy to be home. To have a bed even if she was sort of scared to close her eyes because then she could remember grooming people to have them killed like fish in a barrel. And then if she continued to close her eyes she could remember Maru giving up and watching him be killed and then the blood covered her eyes and she stopped closing them for longer than a blink. 

She focused on her Nana as she fretted about organizing thing both of them helping where they could before Nana Tala started to fret about Maru as well. That couldn’t have been easy for the young boy. We can’t just leave him alone. Moana you should invite him over! Oh I have one better! You should give him a key to him. Let him have another home. And food! I should make some food for him.

And Moana agreed especially when she didn’t know the conditions of the dorms. So she took said key and a container of rice and meat and wandered off into the town glancing over the shops that were destroyed walking herself up to Maui’s room knocking gently. “Maru?- Maui?” She quickly corrected. “It’s your annoying  neighbour from Hana who you can’t shake even if you wanted to,” Moana called out trying to make it as light-hearted as possible even when she leaned against the wall scared he wouldn’t even be in to answer.

District 1 -- Luxury and Textiles

Star Butterfly: Trained as a Tribute all her life, Star is of royal bearing and the glimmering jewels of her gown reflect that. Though the gown is beautiful, there is something fierce about it; the most precious jewels are the ones with the sharpest cut. ( @shiningmagicalstar )

Maru Akalana: No one can forget Maru’s heroic act of valor as he saved his blind best friend, and a hero’s ensemble is what he needs. Be careful not to get caught in the intricately woven net; it’s hard to get out once he’s snared you in. ( @mischievousmarvelousmagicalmaui )

Merida had two people to see at the hospital today.

Maui was the first. He was also the last person that Merida had been with before the world had warped around the both of ‘em, and Merida had felt Maui slip from her fingers-- literally. One moment she was splayed on the ground, her hand pressed over the wound torn through Maui’s flesh, those fingers of hers, normally so steady, so strong, trembling with the rest of her. And the next: darkness. Maui disappeared, the floor vanished, Merida screamed and toppled into a dingy cheap theatre with an insane weasel-faced blonde demon puppet, wearin’ a dress of all things. Maui’s blood had been gone from her hands.

She had thought of Maui though-- she had thought of Dipper, of her friends, of fightin’ her way through the scourge, top hats and musical numbers be damned. She’d managed to slip from the theatre and wander through several other dilapidated Swynlake buildings, searchin’ high and low-- grippin’ her bow at her side, which bless joab, had somehow appeared with the ridiculous dress.

She’d not found him though. Merida had wandered alone until at last the world twisted again and she was spat out onto the other side of it, normal again. She’d rushed to the hospital right away, screamin’ Maui and Dipper’s name. Threatened a nurse or five, made a scene, till someone finally told her that, yes, they were here but she’d have to come back during visiting hours.

And that was now. Merida marched down the hall, nearly steppin’ on the heels of the little lamb of a boy who scurried forth. He took her to the room, opening the door for her…

Merida pushed past at once but stopped just as abruptly. Maui laid in the white sheets, hospital gown laying like paper on him, the above light soakin’ him through and making him look...

“He’s not dead, just-- resting,” said the boy behind her.

She shot the boy a glare. “I know that. I’m not stupid,” she practically barked. The nurse squeaked and took several steps back, and then the bed creaked, and Maui made some kinda grunting noise. Merida’s head snapped back the other way and she quickly stepped to the side of the bed, reachin’ out to grasp at Maui’s forearm. “Maui,” she whispered his name, watchin’ his eyelashes as they fluttered. “Maui, wake up.” They fluttered again. Merida gripped his arm tighter, then felt a spike of fear, like-- what if something was wrong.

“OI, MAUI,” she barked.

I wanna preface this with-- they’d have SO many kids I feel. like three, four at least. maybe more. 5? idk i just feel like they’d have a big family. I won’t name them all or decide so i will just take idk uh first born-- boy. his name is Akinyi. 

🌱- When is their birthday? Where were they born? What was the time of day? 

Akinyi was born 9am in the morning his name literally means “born in the morning.” He is a spring baby uh-- April 12. 

🔠- Who named them? What does their name mean?

wow-- this one goes to nala but his nickname whatever it is will go to Sweet. I’m sure he has a Dakota name too!!! 

💤- Was it difficult to get them to fall asleep at night?

Oh nooo, he was a good lil baby honestly. He slept very soundly

🌀- Were they a social, giggly baby? Or were they a shy baby who did not like forced socialization?

Yes! Very happy and energetic probably didn’t take that many /naps/ which is why he slept so well at night

🍳- What is their favorite childhood dish?

uh idfek baby food. um. carrot mush. yum carrots. also probably was constantly eating like the best way to make himi happy is to give him food he just BRIGHTENED UP he was like !! food what !! 

🐻- Did they have a favorite teddy bear/stuffed animal?

yes he DID have a teddy bear. in honor of his PAPA bear get it 

🏡- What kind of environment did they grow up in? Was it in a rural or farmlike home? Or did they grow up in the cities? Or were they a small town/suburban child?

I’ve always headcanoned that Nala is going to move back to Kenya at some point because she’s rly passionate about water projects there. So I like to think they live in Mombasa where she finally has her nonprofit all set up and Sweet would work in a hospital. They live super close to the water and they go swimming all the time. 

👦🏻- What was preschool/kindergarten like?

Akinyi loved it but probably got into so much trouble. Very energetic and also got his hands in stuff he shouldn’t. Ate glue and paper, that kind of thing. Made lots of friends though and always participated even if sometimes he forgot to raise his hand and just shouuuted out the answer... 

👧🏻- What was elementary/middle school like?

Kind of in the same vein, though Akinyi probably wasn’t as enthusiastic about going to school because it’s more BORING NOW. 

👱🏻‍♀️- What was high school/college like?

Mmm I feel like he’d find his passion points and his ‘group’ because he has two parents who are both passionate, driven people and he’d catch onto that. He’d become hyperfocused in those areas and let others slide. Can see him doing some sort of sport maybe. Or maybe doing student council or something like that because he likes to be involved with the more social aspects of school. 

🌋- How often did they get caught doing something bad?

I feel like he was more problematic and more of a troublemaker when he was younger and once he found something to like direct all his energy, he mellowed out some. 

🌡- Did they get sick a lot as a child? Did they ever have to go to the hospital for any reason?

I feel like he got sick a few times as a kid bc of doing dumb shit like EATING THINGS HE SHOULDN’T (as a baby, scaring nala half 2 death) and idk probably jumping off a roof. good thing his dad is a doctor ahahah 

🎀- What kinds of games/activities did they like to play?

very active as a child, probably in a sport like i said. Loved to go swimming, probably wasn’t big into video games... uh... i don’t really see him liking poetry or art like his parents tbh but maybe? 

🎏- Did they have a lot of friends? Can you describe a few? 

yes he had LOTS of friends. he probably had girlfriends as a kid that’s how smooth and popular this kid is. i feel like he got a long with a lot of diff types of ppl, like artsy and sporty kids just talk to him. 

💢- Did they ever have a rebellious phase?

SURE what child doesn’t. I’m sure he felt a lot of pressure because Sweet and Nala are both driven people and are very successful. And Nala would have high expectations honestly so who knows maybe he’d like get a secret tattoo and join a skater gang before he got his act 2gether yah totally 

❓- Did they ask a lot of questions when they were younger? Did they like to explore the world?

Uh sure yeah. I feel like he was a liar tbh, he made up a lot of grandiose stories to get out of things or if he didn’t like his parents’ explanations, he just made up his own. he was a big mouth. he also liked to put things in his big mouth. dont sexualize that he is a child 

🗯- How well did they get along with their siblings?

Depends on age differences and personaliTIES and i focused on ONE FOR A REASON PEOPLE-- he’d be obnoxious about being the oldest that’s all i know

Swynlake, Episode 2: Jennifer’s Body || Demon Squad

Dipper, Maui, and Merida were walking by the Kohaku River because all researched evidence pointed to something suspicious happening along it.

Right, let’s back track. Dipper, Maui, and Merida explored the Lyons Cave a few weeks prior and while that was all good and fun, they had accidentally stumbled upon the phone of a missing girl. Maui went to the police and Dipper and Merida hit the library and asked hypothetical questions to their professors. Dipper stayed up extra late on some really sketchy forums and finally proposed the theory that there could possibly be some dark magic ritual involved.

What place in town had the most reports of dark magic around it? The river, of course. All that hell stuff (which Dipper had not  be around for but had heard from Maui and Merida, as well as his professors and the town forums in general) had originated from near the river. Heck, Maui claimed to have closed the gates of hell.

So here they were. Walking. Dipper wasn’t sure what they were gonna find, but he had his camera out nonetheless.

“Right – last time we found a phone,” he spoke, angling the camera towards Maui and Merida. “Research evidence – to edit in later – suggests that this river is a hot bed of magic activity, so we’re walking. Been walking for about --- how long you think? An hour maybe?”

Feeling stupid, feeling small || Proud Demigod

Penny Proud wasn't scared of anything. If she needed to talk to someone, she went up and did it, because that's what Prouds did. They got shit done. Especially the Proud ladies, by marriage or birth; if there was something that needed doing, they did it, and that was the end of it.

But Penny was struggling with this. Well, she was struggling with a lot of things - as it turned out, dreaming you were a part of the Hunger Games wasn't as fun as most 13 year olds assumed it was. She was lucky if she slept more than a few hours, and luckier still if she didn't wake up screaming. The people who touched her shoulder and asked if she was alright only made it worse. She just wanted to stop thinking about it - forget about it all together.

Except that she couldn't. Because the thing she was struggling to move past was her own grizzly death (strangely, being a so-called Career Tribute, being good at and wanting to kill people of varying ages and backgrounds had yet to bother her - a problem in and of itself, which she wasn't going to address right now), and she thought if she was ever going to get over it, she was going to have to talk to Maru.

She just really, really didn't want to.

What should she say? Did she thank him for doing what he did, or apologise for making him do it in the first place? Would he want her to apologise, or thank him, or in fact, speak to him at all? She was worried about it - more so than she usually would be, with this sort of thing. So instead of immediately addressing the problem, she did what anyone would do: she turned to instagram.

It didn't take long to find him, as it happened. She scrolled through demigod-maui's profile for a good long while (very careful not to click that like button, jesus) and decided that, yes, it was definitely him.

After that she kept checking, just to be sure.

There was a spot on the quad at Pride U that he seemed to keep returning to, and Penny was partly glad, and partly pissed. Glad, because it meant she knew where to find him, and pissed, because it meant she was going to run into him every damn day at school, even if he never noticed her. After a week of just plain avoiding that one spot, Penny took a breath. She was going to struggle to approach him, so instead she got there early, sat down in what he probably thought of as his spot, and waited.
