MITCHSEN WEEK
DAY THREE - GETTING CAUGHT BY THE BELLAS
So it’s that time again Mitchsen Bitches!
Again, I implore you, if you are publishing anything mitchsen week related, please tag it or let me know! The tag is very, very bare and I don’t know if it’s just because every post I make is at the top.
Have a good old fashioned getting busted during nookie fic!
“Ugh, finally,” Beca said. She pulled her door closed with a flourish and leaned against it for a moment. Watching her, smile gracing her features, was her girlfriend Aubrey.
“Beca, they’re our friends,” Aubrey said. “They just want to hang out with us.” They’d been out to lunch and then hung around downstairs for some drinks before escaping up to Beca’s room.
“I know,” Beca said. “And I love them. But I haven’t seen you in like a month and I’ve missed you and I don’t think I can bear to have my hands off you for much longer. I may actually prove the existence of human spontaneous combustion.” Aubrey had been coming to visit the Bellas every weekend of Beca’s senior year - partly to hang out with the girls, but also to spend time with Beca. It was a lot of fun when they all got together and Amy even volunteered to give them privacy when Aubrey was in town and crashed with Bumper instead.
The two of them had gotten together right before summer break of Beca’s junior year, much to the delight of their friends. It was a surprisingly easy relationship, the two of them just happy to be together whenever they could. But now that Beca was establishing herself at the studio, her boss often had her away on weekends, which was what had happened now for four consecutive weeks. Aubrey still came up to visit, still crashed in Beca’s bed, but it wasn’t quite the same when Beca wasn’t in it.
“Then you should come over here and put your hands on me,” Aubrey said. “Because I missed you too.” Beca walked over to where Aubrey was perched on her bed and settled astride her lap, knees settling into the mattress either side of her.
The first kiss was soft and sweet. It always was when they were together after being apart for weeks. The next one, however, had a little more fire and a whole lot more tongue. Aubrey’s hands haphazardly tangled into the soft cotton of Beca’s tee shirt as she leaned just far enough backwards that Beca had to chase her into the next kiss.
“You missed me, huh?” Beca asked as she pulled back. She let one hand tangle with her girlfriends. “How much?”
“Well, about a week ago was the worst,” Aubrey said. “You FaceTimed me after you’d been out to dinner with your colleagues and, your hair just a bit rumpled and stuff. And I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed but when you start to get a bit tired your voice gets a bit husky and it sounds super hot.”
“You think I’m hot when I’m tired and grumpy?”
“Well, honestly you’re hot all the time,” Aubrey clarified. “But I wanted to be with you so I could make you feel better.” Aubrey’s free hand slid into the back of Beca’s shirt and stroked across her lower back. Beca leaned in and kissed her again, letting her weight cause them both to fall down onto the bed. Her body settled on Aubrey’s and she let her arms rest either side of her head as she spoke.
“You know even when I’m away, just seeing you on my phone screen is enough,” Beca said. “But it’s definitely not as good as seeing you like this.”
“I love you,” Aubrey said.
“I love you, too,” Beca said.
“Now, I believe there was talk about you putting your hands on me,” Aubrey said teasingly, pulling Beca into her body and kissing her hard. Their bodies settled into place together as they kissed, pressed as close as they could possibly be while still wearing clothes.
Clothes were shed hastily as they sought to relieve a months worth of tension, the two of them frantically investing themselves in pleasing the other a few times over before they slumped into the bed.
“Maybe next time I have to go away for a weekend you could come with me,” Beca said, nuzzling into Aubrey’s sex-tousled hair lightly. “They always put me up in pretty nice places. But I’d also feel bad coz I’d be at work all day on the Saturday.”
“I can entertain myself for a day,” Aubrey said. “Then when you were done we wouldn’t have to worry about the rest of the Bellas. So yeah, if your bosses are cool with that, then I definitely want to come with you.”
“Awesome,” Beca said. She pulled Aubrey’s face toward her and kissed her deeply. Aubrey let out a hum and as Beca tried to pull away she pulled her in closer. Beca smiled against her lips as she let the next kiss get deeper and longer. She could vaguely hear someone’s phone buzzing.
“Someone’s vibrating,” Beca said as she kissed her again. Aubrey rolled over on top of her and let her eyes wander over Beca’s body in a manner that clearly indicated she was nowhere near done for the night.
“I very much don’t care,” she said. “About anything except you and me right here, right now.” She began to kiss her way down Beca’s body, stopping again at her breasts to tease her nipples with soft teeth and tongue.
“Oh god, me neither,” Beca said, hands grabbing onto the sheets of her bed as Aubrey continued. The phone vibrating on the dresser was steadfastly ignored as Aubrey descended lower and lower, setting about making her forget her own name.
It wasn’t out of the ordinary for the two of them to spend the entire afternoon locked away when Aubrey came to stay. Enhanced further, this time, by the fact that Beca’s schedule had set them apart for so long. The girls just let them at it and they normally resurfaced around dinner time.
It was probably their extended separation that was to blame for their bed session going much longer than normal that day. Neither girl needed much encouragement to get in the mood, that was for sure, but today was like something else. They hadn’t even managed to break for water yet, but Beca was now kneeling between Aubrey’s legs, mouth working overtime as Aubrey bucked against the bed, grasping Beca’s wrist with one hand.
The knock at the door would have been something they ordinarily would have heard. It went unnoticed though, because Beca’s mind was only focused on her girlfriend’s body beneath her, and Aubrey wasn’t exactly capable of coherent thought.
The thunk of the door swinging open and hitting the wall only registered with them in enough time for someone to say “Oh my god! Sorry!” and snap them out of it.
“Holy fuck!” Beca exclaimed, sitting upright. Every single Bella was standing in her doorway getting a prime view of the two of them mid coitus.
“Daaamn,” came Stacie’s voice. “You guys have been going at it all afternoon?” Beca looked down at Aubrey, who was red in the face from a mixture of embarrassment and being left so close to climax with no finish.
“Can you guys please fuck off?” Beca said. She tugged the bedsheet up to at least cover them up a little.
“We texted and called like five times,” Flo said.
“We wanted to know if you guys wanted to come for dinner,” Amy said. “Pun completely intended.”
“But we’ll leave,” Chloe said. “We’ll be back later.” She shooed the girls out and slammed the door closed. Beca dropped down next to Aubrey and kissed her softly.
“Well that moment is truly ruined,” Aubrey said.
“You okay?” Beca asked.
“Kind of want the earth to open up and swallow me whole,” Aubrey said. “And my body is screaming at me.”
“Want me to keep going?”
“No, I’m okay,” Aubrey said. “You?”
“I’m going to have to hear about this every day for the rest of the year,” Beca said. “And I’m also putting a lock on this door.” They lay there for a few moments, hearing the commotion of the girls all heading out for dinner. Once it was silent, Beca sat up.
“I don’t know about you but I definitely need water,” Beca said. Aubrey nodded and they both put on underwear and t-shirts before heading downstairs. Beca grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge and handed one to Aubrey. There was a note on the counter along with some money.
[Sorry we interrupted! We ordered dinner in for you guys, should be about half hour. We’ll be home late.]
“So, dinner,” Beca said. “Then maybe a hot bath.”
“Sounds perfect,” Aubrey said. Their food arrived a short while later and they ate cuddled up on the couch. The Bellas had ordered them in Chinese food and went with their favourite dishes. It was nice to be alone and not have to be squirrelled away in a bedroom, so they took their time. When they had finished, they headed into the bathroom closest to Beca and Amy’s bedroom, ran a hot bath and locked the door. They settled in the tub, Aubrey cradling Beca’s smaller frame in her arms.
“Hey Beca?” Aubrey asked.
“Mmm?”
“I know you said next time you go out of town for work on a weekend you want me to come,” Aubrey said, “But maybe every now and then we could try and go away.”
“Want me to come to the lodge?”
“Ew, no,” Aubrey said. “But like... even if we just go into Atlanta and get a hotel. If the girls start asking questions, we could always just say you’re going for work otherwise they’d probably invite themselves.”
“I think that sounds like a great idea.” Aubrey kissed along her shoulder softly and they relaxed in the tub until the water temperature dropped too much to stay put. Aubrey looked tired so Beca suggested just crawling back into bed for the night. Beca hastily changed the sheets on her bed while Aubrey picked some music out and set it playing softly.
They were tangled together and getting drowsy in the dark of the room when they heard the door reopen and what sounded like drunk Bellas returning. Beca sat bolt upright.
“What’s wrong?” Aubrey asked, concerned.
“Nothing,” Beca said. She got up and tugged on the end of her desk so that it covered over part of the door.
“Planning on a little more action tonight, are we?” Aubrey asked with a grin as Beca got back into bed.
“Honestly? Not tonight, since we’re both exhausted,” Beca said. “Can’t speak for the morning, though. And I definitely don’t want us to be interrupted again.”
Aubrey nodded and pulled Beca in for one more kiss before she curled up back against her shoulder, the two of them falling asleep to the music playing softly in the room.

WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?
You can submit anything you like! As long is it a) fits the theme and b) features Mitchsen it literally does not matter whether it’s fic, a playlist, some art, interpretive dance recordings... You don’t have to submit something for every day if you don’t want to, you can do all or some or none. As long as it’s Mitchsen, I want in!
HOW DO I SUBMIT?
You can either submit directly to this blog or you can post on your own and tag it with #MITCHSENWEEK2019. I promise I will do my very best to track the tag and reblog everyone to this one, but if for some reason I don’t see your stuff you can absolutely send a message to let me know and I will fix it.
WHEN DO I SUBMIT?
You can submit on the day of the prompt in whatever time zone you’re in. I’ll be posting in AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) but I’m not going to hold anyone hostage to our crazy time zone. You can absolutely post late if you want to, but just don’t post early!
ARE THERE ANY RULES?
Please make sure everything is tagged for any serious trigger warnings so that people can make informed choices about what they’re about to see. Other than that, just be cool, guys.
And as always, please feel free to send through any messages and Ill get to you as soon as I can.
xx Rachel.

IT’S MITCHSEN WEEK!!
Tumblr media
It’s Sunday May 12 down here in Australia so first day prompt creations are being accepted from now. Please tag your work with the #MitchsenWeek2019 tag so I have a better chance of finding them, or you may even like to tag the blog in your post. If I miss yours for whatever reason, send me a message and I’ll get it taken care of.
Also, I’ve decided that my Mitchsen Week fics are being kept tumblr only until the week is complete.
Happy Mitchsen Week y’all!
(And happy Mother’s Day to all you mitchsen mamas out there.)
Day One - Secret Relationship
It started as an accident. Too much alcohol, too much tension. The girls had all consumed way too much in terms of booze, and they were all making a racket somewhere in the house. Aubrey had spotted Beca slinking off down the hall and gone after her, planning on dragging her back to the group - this was a bonding session after all. But Beca had sighed and argued back and said she needed a moment for her sanity because she was not cut from the same cloth as the rest of them.
Aubrey had seized that moment and said that she knew Beca wasn’t Bella material, knew it from the second they’d met. But before she got any further, Beca had her face in her hands and was kissing her hard. Aubrey’s brain faltered for half a step until she pushed back, driving the smaller girl against the wall and went about devouring her in return.
Beca was small, slightly cool despite the warmth in the house, and for some reason she didn’t taste like vodka mixers or cask wine. But the small hands on her face, in her hair, on her waist, they were steady and firm and they let it carry on for a while. When Beca finally pushed Aubrey back a fraction, they stared at each other, panting.
“You gotta let me get some air here,” Beca said. “I’m like... not an extrovert. These girls, I love them. But I have to breathe.” Aubrey only nodded.
“Are you - we? Okay?” she managed. Her hands moved to smooth out her skirt.
“Yes,” Beca said. “Both counts, yes. I just need to - well.” Aubrey let her go. She didn’t know what to make of what had just happened.
It developed into a routine. They’d get together - sometimes just the Bellas, sometimes all the acapella groups - and at some point late in the night when alcohol had eradicated most of the sensibilities of the other girls, Beca would disappear and Aubrey would follow. A stolen few moments kissing fiercely in a dark and out of the way corner, before Beca would sneak away under the pretence of clearing her head.
Aubrey pretended that it didn’t bother her, but the longer it went on, the harder it got. Beca never looked at her or spoke to her in a way that would indicate what was going on to anyone else. And it made her wonder just what Beca was playing at. Whether she saw Aubrey as just a plaything or as something else. She decided she was going to force her to have a conversation about it. It didn’t take long for an opportunity to present itself – the girls had all been out together one day, and she and Beca had stolen away into a quiet corner of campus on the walk back, the other girls planning some other activity for the afternoon. They’d spent a few minutes kissing each other fiercely before Aubrey remembered she wanted to talk to her about this.
“We need to talk,” Aubrey said.
“No talking. Kissing.” Beca leaned in again.
“Is this just some dirty little secret to you?” Aubrey asked. “I’m just something you can keep to yourself and never admit to? You just kiss me and then you run.” The smaller girl realised she was serious.
“Wait. No, it’s not like that,” Beca said. “I mean it, Aubrey. Look, why don’t you just come with me?”
“Come where?” Aubrey asked. Beca just held out her hand, so she took it and they headed out of the shadowed quad they’d been in. She realised Beca wasn’t letting go any time soon, and let her fingers curl into Beca’s as they headed across campus, walking together in the afternoon sun.
“They’re all very, very extroverted,” Beca said as they headed past the languages building. “Don’t get me wrong, I love being a part of the group and everything. But it is a huge effort for someone like me to even attempt to keep up with you all. After one of our get togethers it can take a good few days for me to feel like myself again.”
“It’s that exhausting?”
“It’s easier if I leave like this,” Beca said. “If I make some kind of move that lets everyone know I’m thinking about bailing it turns into one more drink or no not yet, all of that. And I hate disappointing you all so I’d stay and then I’d need to spend even more time trying to recharge.”
“You really are that introverted?” Aubrey asked.
“Extremely,” Beca said. “I’ve chosen a campus job that has me locked in a radio station away from people. My major requires no group work at all. I don’t share about myself often and when I do, it isn’t much. I’m not good at talking about things.” They walked on and Aubrey realised she was headed toward Baker Hall.
“Don’t you want to be a performer though?” Aubrey asked.
“No,” Beca said. “Producer. Behind the scenes, not up in lights.” They continued on in silence for a few moments more.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“I kissed you because I wanted to,” Beca said, pre-empting the question. “Because you’re smart and you’re beautiful and because - as previously mentioned - I’m bad at talking about things and it’s easier to do rather than say.”
“But why have we not talked about this?” Aubrey said. Beca held open the door and raised her eyebrows at the question.
“Well, I just explained why I haven’t instigated a conversation,” she said. “As to why you’ve never brought it up, I wouldn’t presume to know.” That silenced Aubrey for a moment. Beca had a point. She was an equal participant in their entanglements and there was no reason for her to assume that Beca should be the first to begin talking about things. They headed up the stairs.
“I just don’t know what to make of it,” Aubrey said. “I mean, obviously I’m enjoying it, but I do want to know what exactly it means. What I mean to you.” Beca stopped at a door and turned to face Aubrey. She put one hand lightly on Aubrey’s chest, high up near her collarbone, using it to steady herself as she leaned up a little and kissed her. This time it was soft and light, and it didn’t last long.
“It means you should come in,” Beca said, unlocking the door. “If you want.” Aubrey followed her in and Beca hit the lights, dropping her bag on the cluttered but not drastically untidy desk.
“Where’s your roommate?” Aubrey asked. Beca shrugged.
“She’s rarely here on weekends,” Beca said. “It’s good though. Gives me space.” She tugged out her phone and music began playing from a speaker next to her bed. She kicked her shoes off, so Aubrey did the same with her sandals
and shrugged her jacket off, hanging it over the back of the chair.
“So what do you want it to mean?” Beca asked. She was bent in front of a small bar fridge and came out with two bottles of water, offering one to Aubrey. “I’m assuming you’re not the type of girl who does meaningless.” They sat on the bed and got comfortable.
“No, I don’t,” Aubrey said. “I’m not one of these girls who can have things mean nothing. The first time you kissed me, I didn’t think much of it, but the more it’s happened, the more I realise it does mean something to me.”
“And it does to me, too,” Beca said. “It actually means a lot to me. But if we’re going to like, date, then I really need to make sure you understand this solitude thing. Because the group can be tiring, but I do want to spend time with you. As much as I can, honestly. But at times, for example if I’ve had a bad day, then yeah, I might need a couple hours to recuperate.”
“You regenerate best on your own,” Aubrey summarised. “Got it. Though if we’re dating now – and that’s what I want – and you do need to be alone, can you at least just let me know so I don’t worry?”
“I could like, probably text you an exploding head emoji dude,” Beca said, tracing hair back out of Aubrey’s face and tucking it behind her ear.
“Then dating it is,” Aubrey said. Beca was starting to lean in. “But let’s not tell the group right away. They’re just going to get straight up in our faces and even I don’t want to deal with that, so I can only imagine how much the thought of it unsettles you.”
“Who knows, the clandestine thing might even be kind of fun for a while,” Beca said. She was so close to Aubrey’s lips, but still not touching her. “I mean, it was always kind of hot just making out like crazy knowing that at any second someone could catch us.”
“Anyone gonna catch us here?” Aubrey asked. Beca shook her head almost imperceptibly, and it was enough for Aubrey to close the tiny gap between them. She let the kiss start softly, but something about this moment felt a little more heated than their darkened corner encounters. Beca’s tongue pushed out and licked against her lower lip, and she parted her lips. Every time they were kissing and their tongues touched for the first time, she got a headrush and a shudder made its way down her spine. Today was no different, but today she didn’t have to worry that someone would hear the moan it brought. Beca pulled back a little.
“That noise is always so hot,” she said. “Every time - it just kills me a little.” Aubrey just pushed against her shoulders until she was hovering over Beca on the bed. She could see Beca’s pupils widening and watched her teeth bite down on her lip.
“This is okay?” Aubrey asked first.
“Of course it is,” Beca said. “Welcomed, even.”
They got pretty entangled on the bed, hands and mouths eagerly going about claiming as much of the other as possible. Beca loved the way Aubrey kissed her, loved the way her lips traced over her neck, her jaw. It made her a little dizzy, in the most pleasant way. Her arms were up in Aubrey’s shirt before she realised what she was doing, nails dragging down her back when she caught herself.
“Can we start to cool it a bit?” Beca said. “I’m not in a hurry. I mean, damn you’re hot and all… but we haven’t even been out on a date. I at least like to do that a few times before we start getting around to sex.” Aubrey kissed her once more, but rolled off to the side. Beca’s hand immediately found hers and their fingers tangled together.
“So can we go out tonight?” Aubrey asked. “Chloe is off doing something with Stacie and I don’t really have any plans.”
“I’m down for dinner or something,” Beca said. “But ideally this right here would be nap time.”
“Oh, let me leave then,” Aubrey said. She shifted so she could get up, only to find herself being tugged back down.
“You could stay,” Beca said. “Just an hour or so, then we can head out.”
“You want to nap with me?” Aubrey said. “How do you know I don’t snore?”
“I don’t,” Beca said. “But you smell good and I like the way your arm feels right here over my body.”
“How am I supposed to argue with that?” Aubrey said. She slid her feet into a tangle with Beca’s and let herself relax into the pillow. She drifted off to the feeling of Beca’s fingers stroking against her wrist.
They managed to keep it quiet for quite a lot longer than either of them anticipated. Beca had confided in Stacie and Chloe about her tendency to hibernate after social activities and they’d accepted it. Aubrey simply explained to the group that she, as a double major, had a lot of study to do. It wasn’t untrue. In fact, it was pretty common for Aubrey to hide out in Beca’s room to study while Beca worked on music. But they were happy together.
They managed to avoid being spotted on dates by simply going further away from campus. They often drove over an hour to just eat dinner together, to kiss each other on street corners without any concern that someone would see them. And Beca’s roommate really was very rarely in the room, which meant when they did start sleeping together there was no danger of being caught by Chloe.
“Do you think it’s time we told them?” Beca asked quietly. They were walking back toward the car after dinner, hands tangled lightly. “It’s been almost three months.”
“If you’re ready,” Aubrey said. “Then sure. I don’t mind waiting if you need a little more time, but if you’re ready, then I’m ready.” She didn’t speak again, seeing that Beca’s brow was furrowed in thought and knowing she just needed a moment.
“I think we should tell them,” she eventually said. “They are our friends and I feel like they’d be happy for us. I know it hasn’t been easy for you, keeping it from Chloe especially. So when we get back, let’s go find her.”
“Okay,” Aubrey said, squeezing her hand softly. “We’ll start with Chloe.”
She texted her roommate as Beca drove back, just to check and make sure that she was in their room and that she was alone. She received confirmation of both of those, so when they got back they headed straight there. Aubrey headed in first.
“Beca?” Chloe said. “Hi. Sorry, didn’t expect to see you here as well.”
“That’s why we wanted to make sure you were here on your own,” Aubrey explained. “We have a confession to make.” Chloe’s eyes widened as she suddenly realised what was happening.
“You guys are together!?” she exclaimed. “Oh my lord. This is… unexpected. But still good, don’t get me wrong.”
“It’s been a lot longer than you think,” Aubrey said. “We’ve been kind of hooking up a bit since the start of the year, but the dating thing, that’s been official for about three months now.”
“Wow.”
“We wanted you to know first,” Beca said. “I know Bree doesn’t like keeping stuff from you, but she didn’t want to hurry me into having to explain it over and over to everyone.”
“Oh yeah,” Chloe said. “How are you going to go with that?”
“Don’t know to be honest,” Beca said. “It might help if you try to tell them to keep their shit calm for a while? Because Bree’s like, really important to me. I don’t want to be overwhelmed.”
“Well, I just want you guys to be happy,” Chloe said. “So whatever you need me to do to help you, I’m in.”
“Thanks,” Beca said. “I should go, though, I have some homework calling my name.” She got up and Aubrey came out into the hall with her.
“Thanks for dinner,” Aubrey said. “Do you want to try to get together for coffee before first class tomorrow?” Beca nodded slowly, and for a moment Aubrey thought something was wrong. But Beca looked up into her eyes and with nothing but total sincerity, she said it.
“I love you.” It was quiet and gentle, but Aubrey could tell that she meant it.
“I love you, too,” she replied, leaning in to kiss her.
“Whoa, what the hell?” came an interruption. They pulled back and saw Stacie was coming up the hall, and that she’d clearly seen them. “What’s this?”
“You go,” Aubrey said. “I’ll handle this.” She planted a soft kiss on her cheek, and Beca escaped down the hallway.
“Chloe here?” Stacie asked. “Also, what the hell?”
“May as well come in,” Aubrey said. “She’s here, and I can explain.” She opened the door for Stacie and followed her in to start explaining all over again.

MITCHSEN WEEK
DAY FOUR - MUTUAL PINING
Hello team! I hope you’re all enjoying mitchsen week.
Reminder that if you’re publishing anything of any kind to let me know - the tag is basically me and @imnotasuperhero and I keep refreshing it in case I find someone else there.
Day four fic below the cut!
Aubrey Posen was sitting at her desk stewing over the events of rehearsals that afternoon. She couldn’t pinpoint what was going on, but that little freshman with the piercings really bothered her. She had a bad attitude and she looked nothing like a Bella should. She knew it would be stupid to admit her but Chloe had talked her into it. Now, in one afternoon, she’d been proven right.
It still didn’t explain why she was sitting here obsessing about it hours later. She was roused from her funk by a knock at the door. Opening it, she was shocked to see the freshman in question standing there, looking hopeful. She didn’t let her guard down, just stared at the girl.
“Can we talk?” Beca said. “I kind of want to apologise.” Aubrey opened the door wordlessly and Beca entered nervously.
“Um,” she said, settling against the edge of Chloe’s desk. “I know I went off on you today, and I’m sorry for that. I can be very defensive... without going too far into the backstory it’s pretty much how I handle most confrontation. But it wasn’t cool, so I apologise.”
“Apology accepted,” Aubrey said. Beca wasn’t done though.
“But I want to make it clear, that regardless of what I said, you made a couple of snap judgments on me, none of which were correct,” she said. “And you don’t know me, you’ve barely spoken twenty words to me. I feel like that was unfair, especially since you’re in a position of leadership in that group. Whatever you say about me in that setting can seriously damage not only my reputation, but group cohesion, and that’s not what the Bellas need.” Aubrey was flabbergasted. Nobody had stood up to her before like this. Because she was right, essentially. But most people just apologised and bailed, but Beca was still there awaiting - an apology of her own?
“That’s true,” Aubrey said. “I’m sorry. I guess I can get a little single minded. I’ll make it clear that what I said about you was unfounded, I promise.”
“And finally, I want to assure you that the whole Treble thing is not going to be an issue,” Beca said. “I work with Jesse at the radio station but we are not ever going to be anything more than friends.”
“How can you guarantee that?” Aubrey asked. “He looks at you like he wants more.”
“Yeah well I’m like, ridiculously gay, so that’s never gonna happen,” Beca said dryly. There was a pronounced silence. “So can we start again?”
“Sure,” Aubrey said. “Let’s start again.”
“Great,” Beca said with a smile. “I’ll see you at rehearsal tomorrow then.” She headed out and left Aubrey sitting where she was. About thirty seconds after the door closed it hit her like a ton of bricks.
“No,” she whispered. “I can’t... have a crush on her?”
Beca was walking back across campus, her hands shaking slightly. She wasn’t very good at conversations like the one she’d just had, but it was important to her that she set things right with Aubrey.
In reality, she’d barely stopped thinking about the senior since she first encountered her. And she knew she had a tendency to prickly and defensive, so when it became clear that she and Aubrey were at loggerheads, she knew she had to do something. Because she didn’t want to fight with someone who made her insides swoop like Aubrey did. She didn’t want to grow to resent the other girl, not when she kind of spent a lot of time daydreaming about her.
So she sucked up all her courage and pride and apologised. It at least seemed to have gone well, which was a good sign. Now to work on reigning in her temper and holding her tongue. She smiled to herself as she recalled what Aubrey’s face had looked like when she’d casually tossed out that she was gay. She’d been surprised, and just a little bit curious. Beca hoped that meant Aubrey might actually be into girls, or she was about to spend the year crushing hard on a straight girl.
Aubrey was at her desk on her laptop. She felt like an absolute creep, but she was scrolling through Beca’s facebook and trying to learn whatever she could about her. She skimmed the basics - a couple years younger than she was but not problematically young, had come to Atlanta via the Pacific Northwest. There was nothing telltale in her history at all, so hoping even just for a tiny bit of background, she clicked on Beca’s high school page to see if she was mentioned. Feeling a tiny bit guilty, she moved over to her bed. If Chloe was to walk in she could see anything on Aubrey’s laptop if she were at her desk, but here it would only be her. She put Beca’s name in the search bar.
“Wow,” was the first thing out of Aubrey’s mouth. Beca was mentioned on her high school’s facebook page a lot. Like, a lot. Winner of Pacific Northwest Region songwriter’s competition. Winner of Oregon State Arts scholarship, three years running. Winner, Young Composers Award Cornish College of the Arts, Carnegie Mellon Music Award Finalist, Philadelphia University of the Arts - Highly Commended in summer session. There was a stream of news articles about any one of a million music awards the girl had won during high school, junior high.
Now she felt bad for discounting everything she said out of turn during rehearsal. She clearly knew what she was talking about. Closing her laptop and pulling out her acapella binder, she looked to see if Beca had filled in the space to mention her major or if she was undeclared. Nope, she’d declared. Music Theory & Comp, plus a second major in Production & Engineering. Impressive, was the first thought Aubrey had.
Chloe came in at that exact moment, so she casually closed up her laptop and set it aside.
“Hey,” her roommate said. “Beca find you? She was looking for you earlier.”
“Yeah, she was here,” Aubrey said. “She apologised for going off during rehearsal. And then I apologised to her for making assumptions and dragging her in front of you guys.”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” Aubrey said. “She made valid points. Plus she also said that she and the treble are never getting together ever in a million years.”
“Well, duh,” Chloe said. “She’s gay.”
“Did she tell you that?”
“No, but she didn’t need to,” Chloe said. “She’s gay, so is Cynthia Rose and Stacie is definitely not straight.”
“You sure about that last one?”
“Uh, considering I made out with her over the weekend, yeah, I am.”
“Oh, are you two together?”
“No,” Chloe said. “One time thing. She’s cute, but she’s not interested in a serious thing and neither am I. It won’t make anything weird at Bellas, promise.”
“And you can just tell that the others are gay?”
“Same as I could with you,” Chloe said. “I’m not about to start waving rainbow flags around the group and announcing other people’s business, mind you. Stacie won’t care, she’s pretty much uninhibited in every sense of the word.”
“Yeah she strikes me as such,” Aubrey said. Chloe was right though. Nothing remotely changed between the girls during rehearsals. She watched them, looking for a sign, but there were none. She hoped the crush she had on Beca was equally as unobvious. She decided that the easiest way to make sure nobody was clued in to the way she felt about Beca was to avoid looking at her unless necessary.
It worked okay for a while. But as Aubrey learned more about Beca’s musical capabilities and how she could help the Bellas, they began to spend more time together. They worked on arrangements and talked about music, and Aubrey knew she was going to slip up one day soon. She was enamoured, plain and simple, but she didn’t see what she could possibly offer Beca, so she kept it to herself, except for when she vented it to Chloe. Which was often. Chloe tried her hardest to convince Aubrey to take a chance, but Aubrey couldn’t hear it.
Beca was trying just as hard as Aubrey to mask her feelings, and she was just as sure that she wasn’t going to keep it up for much longer. Aubrey was beautiful, and she was smart, and passionate. Yeah she was definitely bossy, but Beca kind of liked that too. She liked everything about her, to be honest, and she was not good at hiding it, which she discovered when she was busted staring at Aubrey during rehearsal by Stacie.
“Dude are you staring at Aubrey?” Stacie asked. “Like are you into her?”
“Of course I’m staring at her,” Beca said, after conceding that she couldn’t really deny the obvious. “Let’s just tally this shit up. First off, she’s gorgeous. Like get the fuck out of here with your face gorgeous. Second, she’s hella smart. She’s ambitious and she’s got a nice voice, she’s funny, confident... but she is like about ten leagues above me. So yes I’m staring but I’m okay knowing it’s not going any further than that. I’m nothing if not a realist.”
“Aw, don’t sell yourself short,” Stacie said. “Is she even gay though?”
“Don’t actually know,” Beca said with a shrug. She stopped listening to Stacie’s badgering after that. She was too busy watching Aubrey.
She knew she was in a world of trouble with this crush. Even the scent of Aubrey’s perfume was enough to send her head spinning. She wanted to know what it would be like to lean in close to her, breathe that smell in as she kissed her. She almost snorted as she registered her own creepiness.
“You okay?” Aubrey asked her. Beca feigned ignorance so she wouldn’t have to explain.
“Fine,” she said. “I should be able to get the next bit of the arrangement down in about ten minutes.”
“I’ll leave you to it,” Aubrey said. “Stacie, can you come give Chloe a hand with choreo?” The freshman got up and made her way down to where Chloe was at the front of the room, leaving Beca sitting on her own.
Aubrey couldn’t help but watch Beca as she worked. She’d said she leave Beca to it, but she wasn’t able to tear her eyes away. There was something about the confidence of her right now, the way she knew absolutely what she was doing. She’d never seen anyone write on music charts the way Beca was doing, laying line after line on the page and barely ever going back to question what she’d done.
Plus she had this habit of poking her tongue out just a touch through her lips. It was cute. Beca was cute. She couldn’t believe she’d almost destroyed any chance of even a friendship with the girl the first practice they’d had. Thank god Beca had enough balls to stand up to her and they were able to start again.
Now the girl was writing mind-blowing vocal arrangements and dropping by her dorm to kick ideas around every other day. They were friends, but Aubrey kept feeling this tugging low in her gut telling her that she wanted more. She knew she was crushing hard, but she needed to ignore it.
“Dude, stare harder,” came a voice.
“Sorry?” Aubrey directed to Cynthia Rose.
“You’ve got the smitten face,” she said with a smug expression. Aubrey blushed a little. “Look I get it. Little B is an interesting character and whilst she isn’t exactly my type she definitely qualifies as a total hottie.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Aubrey said dismissively, but the red of her cheeks betrayed her.
“Sure you don’t,” Cynthia Rose said. “Whatever. Your secret is safe with me. But for whatever it counts, you two would actually make a hot couple. If either of you sacked up enough to make the first move, that is.”
Aubrey just shook her head dismissively. Cynthia Rose wasn’t one to pry, so it wasn’t brought up again. Until she was back in the safety of her room, with only Chloe there to hear as her reliable safety net.
Chloe didn’t mind hearing Aubrey go on about Beca. It was actually kind of adorable, she thought. Aubrey wasn’t the type to get all soft and swoony over anyone or anything, but she was so far gone for Beca it was crazy. So her only real problem with the entire situation was that despite her very earnest suggestion that she do something, say something, Aubrey kept saying no. That Beca wouldn’t be interested in a girl like her. It was maddening.
Beca was less restrained about her crush on Aubrey as time went on. She only really spoke openly about it with Stacie, normally at Stacie’s encouragement, but all of the Bellas could tell Beca was into Aubrey. She had absolutely no poker face so whenever they were in the same room as each other, Beca’s feeling were written all over her face. Aubrey flustered her with even the slightest of glances, and if the captain gave her some kind of praise or compliment during rehearsal she got so goofy and happy that it was visible on her face for hours.
When Stacie told her over and over that she should go for it with Aubrey, Beca would always counter that she wasn’t the kind of girl who ended up with someone as amazing as Aubrey. Stacie told her she was being ridiculous, naturally, but Beca was never going to take that step. So Stacie decided that she and Chloe should do something about it.
“I’m going to ask you something point blank here,” Stacie said. “And I know it might be breaking the best friend code on both our parts to be having this discussion but I think it’s important.”
“Oh this sounds interesting.”
“Now I only have suspicions, because Aubrey is pretty secretive, but am I going mental or does she have a massive crush on Beca?” Chloe looked surprised.
“Um....”
“Chlo.”
“Yeah, she does,” Chloe admitted. “Huge. Aubrey doesn’t do crushes. She’s head over heels, though.”
“Okay, good,” Stacie said. “Because it’s all too obvious that Beca is ridiculously into Aubrey. She’s not very good at hiding it and the only drama is that she is extremely gun shy about making a move.”
“Bree, too,” Chloe said. “So what do we do?”
“Leave that to me,” Stacie said. “Tell her the four of us are having lunch Saturday. Let’s meet here. I’ll take care of it.”
Chloe managed to convince Aubrey to come out with the girls for lunch by the weekend, so the two of them headed to meet Stacie and Beca at the Bellas auditorium.
“So where’s lunch?” Beca asked from her seat in the front row.
“We’re not going,” Chloe said.
“What do you mean?” Aubrey asked. “Isn’t that the whole reason we’re here?”
“Sit down,” Chloe said, gesturing to a seat near Beca. Confused, Aubrey sat, whilst Stacie got up and confronted the two of them.
“Okay,” Stacie said. “This thing between you two has gotten beyond a joke. All Beca can talk about is how amazing you are, Aubrey. How smart and beautiful and all of those nauseating things that a girl with a full blown crush notices. And Chloe here tells me that all she hears about on the regular is how unbelievably smitten Aubrey is for you, Beca. You’re so talented and confident and gorgeous and so on. So now that I’ve sufficiently embarrassed you both, Chloe and I are leaving so you two can do something about the super dramatic mutual pining.”
The two of them sat side by side with scarlet faces for an awkwardly long time. In the end Aubrey decided she was going to have to go first.
“So what Stacie said about me is true,” she said. “About how I feel. I’m kind of very into you.”
“Huh,” Beca said. “And it’s not exactly low key that I’m super into you. I think everybody can tell.”
“So... if our friends are shoving us toward this point,” Aubrey said, “maybe we could like, go on a date?”
“Before you suggest that though,” Beca said, her face going scarlet all over again, “it’s only fair that you should know I’ve not done this much. The dating thing. I’ve only had one girlfriend before.”
“I’ve never had a girlfriend,” Aubrey said. “One boyfriend. So inexperience isn’t just on your side. But even if it wasn’t, I’d still want to go out with you. I haven’t stopped thinking about you since you came to my room and apologised after the first practice.”
“I haven’t stopped thinking about you since then, either,” Beca said. “So yes. Please. Let’s go out.”
“Now? I mean, we did have lunch plans and they just left, so we may as well.”
“Yeah,” Beca said. “Um, I know a decent place if you’re okay with me driving?”
“Lead the way,” Aubrey said. Beca navigated them both toward her car and opened Aubrey’s door for her. They sat in silence for a few moments during the trip until Beca thought to put the radio on, the both of them singing along for a few songs.
“You have such a gorgeous voice,” Aubrey couldn’t help but saying.
“Thanks. Yours is nice too,” Beca said.
“I’m flattered that you would call mine nice, but honestly, my brain sometimes stops when I listen to you,” Aubrey rambled. That compliment brought a blush to Beca’s cheeks.
Beca ended up taking Aubrey to a simple sort of restaurant, nothing super weird or adventurous on the menu and it wasn’t too romantic for a first date.
“Hope this place is okay,” Beca said after they’d ordered. “It feels kind of coupley but not like overly so?”
“It’s fine,” Aubrey said. The two of them slipped into talking while they waited for their meals, and they admitted to each other just how far their crushes went. It was a relief to both of them that they seemed to be on the same page, but they also lamented that they hadn’t done anything sooner.
Once the food was gone and the bill had been delivered, Beca reached out for the slip.
“You should let me pay,” Aubrey said.
“I’ll get this one, since I picked it,” Beca said. “You can get the next one?”
“There’ll be a next one?” Aubrey said hopefully.
“Lots of them, I hope,” Beca said. “I’d really like that. Dating?”
“So would I,” Aubrey grinned at her and they got up and paid the check before heading outside.
“Wanna walk for a while?” Aubrey said. Beca nodded and slid her hand into Aubrey’s. Their fingers locked, both of them smiling as they strolled along the shopfronts.
It was a nice way to waste a little time. They just walked, and talked a little as they moved. But mostly they were both quietly appreciating the way even just holding hands felt, the racing in their chests every time their eyes caught a little. After a while they figured they should probably head back to campus, so they walked back to the car.
Beca slowed them to a stop right next to Aubrey’s door. She wanted to kiss her, provided Aubrey was okay with that. She looked up at her, almost hopefully, and saw that Aubrey was waiting, it seemed. So she bit her lip for a split second and then moved in to kiss her.
“Ow shit!” Aubrey exclaimed. Beca realised that in her eagerness she’d trodden directly on Aubrey’s mostly bare foot, thanks to the ballet flats she was wearing.
“Shit, sorry,” Beca said. “Real smooth, Mitchell. I’m sorry, Aubrey, truly. I’m just nervous.”
“Nervous?” Aubrey asked, her head tilting slightly. “Why would you be nervous?”
“Because I’ve been thinking about this, about you and me, about this moment for like... months,” Beca shrugged. “And I wanted it to be perfect. But instead I stood on your foot with my heavy ass boots and ruined it.”
Aubrey swooped in and kissed her soundly. Beca’s hands fluttered at her sides for a moment before she came to her senses and slid her arms around Aubrey’s neck. As she breathed in she could smell that perfume that drove her mental on every other day but it was a tiny, inconsequential thought when compared to the very idea that she was kissing Aubrey right now.
She felt hot everywhere. Her face was surely pink and she could feel a heat coursing through her and settling in her stomach. And when Aubrey pulled back she just knew she was smiling ear to ear.
“See? Nothing’s ruined,” Aubrey said. “I’m completely okay, I promise.” They shared a handful of kisses, softer and shorter than the first, but no less euphoria-inducing, before Aubrey was ready for them to head back to campus. Beca got back into the drivers seat and steered them back, Aubrey’s phone chiming just before they got there.
“Everyone’s hanging out to see how this turned out,” Aubrey said. “They’re all waiting in the auditorium.” Beca rolled her eyes.
“As much as I’d love to just not deal with that shit,” Beca said, “they’re going to be torturous whether we deal with it now or tomorrow or some other day. Let’s just do it now. While I’m still riding the high of finally getting to kiss you.” She parked the car and Aubrey was at her door as she got out.
“Hey,” Aubrey said. “That whole high feeling, that happiness at this finally happening?” Beca nodded.
“Not just you,” she continued. “I just want you to remember that. I can’t believe we just went on a date. My brain is melting down as we speak. I’ve wanted this for months, too.” Beca kissed her, soft and easy, letting herself take her time with it.
“Okay then,” she said. “Let’s do this.” Aubrey’s hand immediately found hers. They didn’t have any need to speak while they walked. Beca paused for just a second outside the doors, long enough to take a deep breath. Aubrey squeezed her hand tightly and opened the door. They walked in together, hand in hand.
Immediately their friends began clapping and cheering. Beca was blushing, she could feel it, because it was mortifying that all their friends had been so clued in to the immense crushes that they’d both been sporting. But Aubrey was slightly pink in the cheeks as well.
“So,” Aubrey said, “as you can probably see, Beca and I have decided to do something about the - what did you call it Stacie? Oh yeah, super dramatic mutual pining.”
“Largely that it’s no longer pining,” Beca said. “It’s more like dating. So yeah. Uh, thanks for shoving us toward this point, I guess.”
“And now we’re leaving,” Aubrey said. “Text if there’s dinner plans or something.” Amy wolf whistled at them as they left, neither of them turning back as the doors swung closed.

So I’m all ready for day two to go up. I haven’t seen anything in the tag yet except for my own posts so if you have written something please make sure you’re using the hashtag. Don’t forget that you can also submit directly to this blog, or you can also send a message with a link if you like.
Also, I’ve managed to shoot myself DIRECTLY in my oversized foot. By saying I was only going to post my MW fics here I completely forgot that there’s a limit on how many paragraphs a tumblr post can contain and my day two fic goes well above that limit...
So here: Day Two - Bed Sharing
